S2 brick - Internal Memory - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've got a problem with my Galaxy S2, I installed a 4.0.4 ROM and when I flashed another ROM it wasn't the same anymore. It bricked part of my internal memory.
According to this topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886) I installed the ressurection pit and the smartphone get back to life, but it crashes everytime that I try to install a new app at Play Store or when I try to transfer files from computer.
I really need some help here. I used the emmc partition scanner and it showed me that between the 1073 and 2148 block are unusable.
Is it possible to create some pit file that isolates the first 3GB of the internal memory? I think that way I'll resolve all my problems. I'm desperate!!!
P.S.: Sorry about my mistakes, my english is bad

After flashing modified .pit you must manually format system, cache, data and internal sdcard from recovery and flash (still in cwm) firmware you like. But it should be custom or at least modified stock with custom kernel.
If this will not help than use another modified pit file with correct (your emmc fault depending) partition shift.
It is generally method for models with 16GB not 32.

I did everything that you said, but it still crashes. I read the txt files that came with the PITs and no one let unused the exactly bricked area of my internal memory, I think I need a PIT file made exclusively for my phone. Am I right?

Yes, you are right. Ask author of those pits, maybe he will prepare needed one for you.

I did it too, I tried to install the 2.3.4, 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and 4.0.3 ROMs, stock and custom, with the original and patched pit, nothing works.
I think I need to isolate the bad block and it will get back to life.

How do I delete all my data

I'm selling my Galaxy Tab (wifi) and I have already dropped the stock rom on the device and done a hard reset. Is there any way to delete all the data (in the sdcard mount) through the UI? Or do I need to go back and install a console so I can do it with the command line?

What the guy above me said, Factory reset should work but it won't actually wipe the data inside it, Best bet would be to flash CWM and wipe it clean of it's /datadata, But don't wipe the system files.
OR
Flash a pit file and stock firmware. The pit file (Should be on the overcome site or sammobile) should repartition the device and make it all brand new with just the contents of the stock firmware.

I am not sure if that is an accurate statement. When I soft-bricked my Samsung galaxy S phone and had to reuse a stock pit and firmware file, it left my data intact that was not related to the OS (pics, vids, etc.). There may be an option in Odin or Heimdall to wipe the drive clean, but I don't know enough to give advice on that.

That's cause of repartitioning wipes it clean.
here is how I did it.
Installed stock rom via odin.
entered recovery mode
apply everything that says wipe on it.
You can probably still see any information on your sdcard if that's all you did. might want to check to make sure.
If you can read this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
Afaik, Just getting rid of your Google Account should render the tab to be like a stock, HC is very dependent on a Google Account to save things. Other than that I don't see how "Free Apps" can be a threat. Just clear the data via Application Settings on those apps you don't want to keep your personal data on.

How to make a totally clean install?

After trying different roms and testing different things i realized that a full wipe does not clear everything of your current setup.
If you use root explorer for example and just take a look at your folders and files you will see that there are many files left from older roms.
What is the fastest way to make a totally clean installation with a custom rom (cm9 nightly or rr for example)?
I found an older tutorial here but i think it might be outdated.
Is there some kind of script that i can flash before installing the new rom (that cleans everything but efs files and recovery files for example?).
Or do i have to get a sammy stock rom with 3 parts and pit file and re-partition with odin and flash pack to a custom rom right after ?
in CWM
under mounts/storage
format system,cache,data
then flash rom
Really clean install? Flash rom through Odin. Everything will be wiped.

No as you said it just clears data and cache, that is wiped with full wipe /factory reset anyways. And system is also just the system folder.
The other folders in your root will not be touched by this and will still remain on the phone. But i cant really tell if they are used or not anymore. I can only tell by the content and the creation date that of the folders and files, that a lot of these have to be from older setups.

What kind of firmware do i need then? I think if i flash without the re-partion tick in odin options the old files would also stay there. and i need a firmware with 3 parts to flash because you need a pit file to do that.
Ofc i would like to have exactly the same partition sizes as before on my phone if i have to repartition.
So i guess i need somebody who has some knowledge with odin and 3 part firmwares.
download the stock rom from samfirmware.com(after signup)!
flash the "md5" file using odin
after fresh install of stock rom, goto settings>storage>format usb storage and format sd card if u have one!
then u can do a factory reset again and you have a clean wiped phone!

Are you sure that a 1 part firmware from sammobile will wipe all the internal data and not just update and overwrite the new ones? (im not talking about the sd card, im talking about the system data that you can just see with a root explorer for example).
If you're performing a wipe data/factory reset alongside wiping the cache and Dalvik cache, you are performing a clean install. The residual files you're seeing are stored on the internal storage (the /sdcard partition), if you wish to clear them, go into recovery, mounts and storage, and format the /sdcard partition. Viola!
Also, wrong section. All questions should be posted in Q&A. Flagged.
screamworks
I attached some screenshots now about the files that i mean.
Im not talking about the content of the internal or external sd card.
Look at the misc, lib ,res or proc and preload folders.
Also the script files.
Some files might be related to the kernel settings of course.
Im trying to go on a stock rom now and call "*2767*3855# " for a hardreset and see if that works
EDIT:
Nope the hard reset didnt work, all the files are still there.
Where do i get a ics rom with 3 parts and a pit file that i can temporary install to clean my root folder? or is there a tutorial here somewhere could follow?
External SD not visible after new ROM installation
I rooted my galaxy s2 just a day before and faced an issue. After rooting I installed jelly bean 2.6 ROM(Resurrection and remix) and found my GPRS not working and then I did a factory reset, but unfortunately phone got dead and then I removed the battery and re booted after some time. This only restored 98 applications out of 113 in this new ROM. However, I re flashed the ROM again and all the applications got back to normal, but my SD card was not to be seen after this second flash, before factory reset my external SD card was readable(with the new ROM)

the external SD it's mounted on /emmc so, there are your files. You can access to this folder with any file explorer (even the stock one). Just open the file manager, select the "mnt" option on the top, the one between the Home icon and SD icon, inside you can find the emmc folder.
Well i guess i could compare my files with the files of somebody else with rr and delete some of them manually

Since you are currently running CyanogenMod, then follow these instructions:
1. On your phone
-Boot your phone to CWM recovery
-Wipe data/factory reset
-boot your phone to download mode
2. On your Pc
- unzip the downloaded firmware,
- flash the tar.MD5 via Odin

[Q] Need advice on rooting

Hello guys,
I have always played around with ROMs until today an OTA updater bricked my phone. Didn't even go into recovery. I am not an expert but I am not a noob either. After researching and following plenty of instructions, I have got to a point where I have stock ICS 4.0.4 on the XXLQ6 baseband. I was looking for instructions on how to get back my root so I can go back to my original ROM and I came across this helpful thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794)
However, when I am asked to flash certain file, the stock Android recovery for this stock Samsung ROM says that "sdcard" cannot be mounted because such directory does not exist. I have never had an external SD card installed ever so I don't think that should be a limiting factor. I went into my file explorer and I can see 'sdcard' no problem with all my old stuff in it (internal storage).
So my question is -- how can I get around to installing root back into my SGS2 i9100 in these circumstances? Thank you guys, I simply hit a dead end.
Edit: Kernel is: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPU-CL975203 and Build Number IMM76D.XWLPU
If you're talking about method 1 of that thread, you NEED an external SD card. It's states so right in the post. Just get a cheap one. You can probably find a small one for a few bucks.

Try this ROOT method: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Note:
-You are running ICS 4.0.4 Firmware which is known to have the SUPER BRICK BUG on it's stock kernel.
-Please flash a custom kernel immediately, e.g Siyah, speedmod, dream or Dorimanx kernel.
-Do not try any wipe or nandroid backup in CWM recovery before flashing a custom kernel
- It's better to be safe than sorry
You have been warned

Thank you, guys. I have done both of the things you said. A friend gave me an SD card and I could move it there and flash it. Now I will try Siyah. Cheers.

[Q] PIT File Usage - Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100- SOLVED

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 running Android 4.1.2. It is currently rooted using Chainfire method but no CWM installed.
I have questions about PIT file usage. I have searched the forum on the topic and have seen all the warnings that using PIT files can lead to bricking your phone and should not be done unless you know what you are doing. The only reason that I had been considering repartitioning was that I was running out of application space and wanted to increase the application partition from 2GB to 5GB.
I came across an article that had a link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538947) to various sizes PIT files for the Galaxy SII and a procedure on how to do the repartition. I have not tried this procedure since I spent considerable time researching any problems associated with doing a repartition. However, I still have not been able to find the answer to my questions, hence this post.
My questions are as follows:
(1) When doing a repartition using a PIT file, do you have to flash the rom (stock rom or custom) at the same time via odin? Or can you just
do a repartition, and factory reset? The procedure suggests flashing the rom, but I have seen posts that suggests that they just did the
repartition no ROM flash.
(2) After partitioning with the PIT file and decide to flash a custom rom at a later date, will I need to provide the same pit file at the time of
installing the new rom? I know some ROMs already have a PIT file included. The concern that I have is the new ROM may not find the
new repartition mount points – based on some posts that I have seen.
I have not made any decisions with regard to doing the repartition. After getting the answers to the above questions and any other insights that people care to provide, I will then decide on how to proceed.
Thanks.
So you want to expand the space destined to the SO.
You don't need to do that.

I guess I should add some additional information, I have already removed unused apps, cleaned up apps/system cache, removed system logs, cleared cache via recovery, and cleared the davilik cache (system recovery and titanium backup). I am still on the borderline - I can barely update any of the installed apps as I am getting the insufficient space error.
I took a look for the korean's s2 thread but no luck - I used the search function and looked at all posts by korean* - I assumed that korean is the userid. Maybe I missed something, perhaps you can post the link or provide a bit more detail so I can find the thread.
Thanks,
By korean I meant the korean version of the SII.
We've got a couple of threads that solve the storage issue you're experiencing, "issue" rather.
Anyhow, check them out.
And believe me, you don't need to re partition your device (PIT)
BTW, are you having trouble with apps or you're just checking the "storage" toggle?
If so, don't worry about it.

Thanks gastonw, For clarification, my SII is the international version I9100 not the Korean version.
To answer your question, I am having trouble installing/updating apps. I am getting the error insufficient space available.
I get this error when updating apps and it has reached the point where even if I uninstall the app and try and install the same updated app I get insufficient space available.
I have searched for the Korean SII in the Q & A forum and from what I can gather, they are talking about turning the Korean version of the phone into the i9100 which does involve some repartition to the current i9100 PIT. Maybe I am looking at the wrong threads because I missed the reference to the storage problem.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reference to the romnuke script. Will definitely put that in the arsenal of tools when required. However, I haven't reached the stage of flashing another rom just as yet. I am currently on I9100 Samsung stock rom but rooted. Figured I would deal with the space problem first before moving onto flashing roms at a later date.

Yes, I tried all of that before considering the PIT solution.
In any event, I think I have found the answer to my questions from drilling down all the way into the original thread that I found. The answers I believe are as follows:
(a) You do need to flash a stock/custom rom when doing flashing the PIT file
(b) Based on the fact that other people have flashed other custom ROMs after flashing the PIT file, I suspect there isnt any problem flashing any other roms with the new PIT structure.

[Q] Modified PIT file for UCMD8 / SuperNexus 4

Hi,
about a month ago I have hard bricked my SGH-I777 trying to transfer the second version of a modified PIT file edited by me using PitMagic to increase the data application partition. After a month, I finally got back my phone saved using a Riff Jtag. I have mounted the original SGH-I777_ATT_I777UCMD8_I777ATTMD8 released by AT&T, but I really need to increase the data application partition so I would try again and then install the SuperNexus 4.0 Rom. Anyone could give me a tested PIT file for my I777? I'm from Italy and find help for this model is really hard.
Thanks.
Considering that so many i777 users have gotten by succesfully using the stock partition setup, I'm very curious to know why you "really need to increase the data application partition". Are you really beyong 2gb worth of apk's? Is there some other reason?

No, I have got no other reason, considering that I don't use the phone to play with games or stuff like that but just for work. The problem is that although I'm not the kind of person that installs tons of useless apps, a few time ago my phone was unable to download any kind of update or minor app because there wasn't enough storage space available. I can't buy a new phone every month, I have got a 16gb S2 with an external 32gb sd card and i want to use it at the best, and don't be constraind to make a backup every month because Samsung had wrongly thought that 2gb would been sufficient. That's the first reason for wich professionists prefer to buy an I-phone, I prefer to correct a silly evaluation error. I hope you will agree with me and you could help me, I'm not a cheater, I have got only an american phone living in Italy so if I make a mistake I can't take the phone to the customer service. Thank you.

I've never seen any pit file for this phone other than the original UCKH7 pit file that is in the download repository. As far as I am aware, no one has ever needed to repartition the phone to install any firmware version.
I think that there is a misunderstanding. I need to do that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/mod-partition-internal-memory-app-t2538947 for my SGH-I777. Nothing more, nothing less, but I haven't found a tested version of the modified pit file for my phone, so about one month ago I have made one by myself, with 4-8Gb it worked, but when i tried with 6-6Gb the phone crashed and had an hard brick.
I've found a guy in Italy that have got a Jtag, and finally he gave me back the repaired phone. Now I'm asking if someone can help me to find a tested pit file for my SGH-I777 with 6-6Gb configuration.
Thanks again

Doesn't exist for this device, or if it does no one has shared it. My suggestion for you is to stick with the custom .pit you made and leave it be.
