I'd like to see NFC , HD Resolution and 3.5 inch screen! because its a ray :
-3.5 Inch Screen
-HD Resolution imagen the ppi!!!! current ppi of xperia ray is 296ppi bump to 416 ppi!!!
-Waterproof??
-1Gb Ram
-NFC
-Part of NXT series (plz?)
-1.5 Ghz Dual Proccessor
-Play Station Certified!
That would make an ultimate phone which is small thin and cute XD
Yeah, but Sony first has to invent a "Shrink"gun .... you know why
lolS but it may be possible in the future
You are aware of the Xperia U right ?
More like xperia SX. Too bad it is japan only.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/05/09/xperia-gx-and-xperia-sx-announced-by-sony-mobile-japan/
right
but what do you want to see in ray 2 or ray s or ray s2
This one looks quite the same as Ray but with better hardware:
Sony Xperia SX SO-05D
sorry, didn't check the entire page from previous SX link
yeah, the next Ray is SX.
If they release it world wide, the phone top will be narrower (without tv antenna) which is making the phone look surprising handsome
Xperia ion HSPA. It is goddamn cool.

3.5', NFC, video-out, 1gb ram, dual core (open), hd screen, under 9mm
Physical aspect of the next ray that i want
- Same curve shape
- Small dimension (sx size is okay, just slightly bigger).
- Physical home button and button arrangement (It's better than the transparent strip of nxt series In my opinion)
- Dedicated Camera Button
It would be nice if we can have a small dedicated keyboard to plug inside micro usb slot and double as external battery/charger

mm xperia SX, i love this phone, is the real succesor of the RAY.
Same design, more hardware.
Design makes it Ray. Not others.
1. Same size and body shape. Even 3.5" is much bigger. And current body style is very beautiful, distinguishable.
2. 1Gb RAM, maybe faster CPU - just to run ICS smoothly. Ok, let it be two cores, just because of current marketing trends...
3. Dust and water resistant. Without that ugly yellow/orange pastic/rubber everywhere, diving ability, IP67 etc. I just want to not be afraid of rain when I'm riding my bycicle, camping, sleeping drank on the street
4. Same MicroSD slot. I hate when they remove card support and put ugly 8GB of ROM inside, while my current music collection is about 10Gb. C'mon, guys, flash memory costs nothing now, why do you create such stupid limits?!
That's all. I don't need higher camera and screen resolution, better sound, camera button and so on.
Current Xperia model line doesn't contains something I can call "Ray 2.0". They do great top models, but it's too big for me. They do very interesting and fresh design, but use limited hardware (480x320 screen, limited ROM, 512 RAM...)
So Ray stays unique, stays best for my needs.
I too like the Xperia SX.
If they give it a slightly more angular look like the ray has then that'd be my next phone...
I was thinking ... hmm the ray would be a lot better with MHL, 1gb Ram and NFC... Ah hello Xperia SX
That said I'll be holding on to my Ray until christmas at least... Perhaps I'll take a Samsung GS3 at that time... Unless Sony sells the SX in Europe :-D
Does the SX have an Led notifier?
Ok, I was about to buy one Xperia Sola for me. But, then I saw the Xperia Go, with Dust and Water protection, that made my eyes shine!
I would love a durable phone like that.
But the biggest problem on Xperia Go it's the screen resolution , very very very bad. Really.
Right now I'm using one HTC Nexus One, I want to buy a smaller phone with +2.3, so I found the Xperia Sola, very good. But the Xperia Go, made me think.
I use the N1 for reading a lot on the go (bus going home), but I don't like to use covers and protections when I'm outside or keeping worried about break my phone.
Well, the question is, will I notice the resolution difference so much changing from N1 to Go?
N1: 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches (~252 ppi pixel density)
Xperia Go: 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches (~165 ppi pixel density)
Should I change or go to Sola with 480 x 854 pixels, 3.7 inches (~265 ppi pixel density)
I know it's all personal, but some advice would be good
Thanks!
Go for the sola..it has bigger screen and would b great for reading... But the GO would b more durable...
Yes once coming from a high ppi device you can notice the difference....
The choice is yours.. That's why Sony made all these handsets so consumers can pick what they need most..

Dont you just wish xperia go screen should be at least 3.7?
Me too

It depends of what do u want to do with your phone!
If u keep it in a case and don't do some extreme sport with your phone i suggest u the sola (cause of its better screen, resolution ecc ecc); but if u need a phone that could be exposed to some risk like falling in the water or something else Go is better..
Hi guys,
I'm posting in this section because this is for all you that are thinking to replace their X10 with the XP. If you mods think this should go to General, please move.
So long story short, should you move to XP? Answer is Yes. (not YES, but Yes)
It also depends on how much money you will need to spend. Where i live i could get 100€ for my old X10 and for the Xperia P i needed to cash out 250€. So i believe this to be a good trade because for 150€ and no contract i got a completely new, faster and in every way superior phone (almost every way).
I believe the Xperia P to be the direct successor to the X10, just because how similar they are with the screen size and everything, if i would be upgrading the X10 to a new generation, i would do something like the Xpeira P.
The next part i divided into sections so it will be easier to follow.
SCREEN
No doubt about it, the Xperia P has a better, more vibrant screen with higher pixel density. That said, you won't have any problems with the X10 screen either so it's a matter of taste. Personally i actually prefer the X10 screen because of 2 things:
- the XP screen is too yellow, it's hard to get used to, but i try...X10 has much colder colors which i quite like since i find it more realistic
- the higher resolution on the XP actually makes things smaller on the screen so i like the x10 resolution better since everything looks a bit bigger and in my opinion easier to use
Everything else however is on the XP side, for example the brightness which is superb. In any case you will not be disappointed with the XP screen.
I have to say also that Multitouch works much better on XP.
SIZE OF THE DEVICE ITSELF
Size is something that is really important for me since smaller size allows you to use the device better with one hand. With the Xperia P you kinda win and loose here against the X10. It's thinner and has less width, but it's longer. And because it's so long it's harder to use with one hand since the screen is further up above than on the X10. This makes it harder to get to the top of the screen with your thumb. BUT...overall the XP is very one hand friendly and still perfectly usable.
LOUDSPEAKER AND SOUND
Loudspeaker is very good, i must say it's better than on the X10 and louder. Sound is very good, but i always found the sound on sony devices (i'm talking about headphones) to be awesome, XP is no exception but i wouldn't give it any edge against the X10 in this respect.
MEMORY AND RAM
I believe 11.5GB user available is good enough for the XP. In the X10 i had 8GB SDcard and it was almost full most of the time so 11.5GB give me just the perfect amount. That said, if you want to take full hd video then i would advise you to transfer it to your PC and delete on your phone as soon as you're done taking it. Of course X10 could win here theoretically with it's microSD expansion, BUT...you can attach an USB drive to your Xperia P when needed, so it kinda overcomes the issue in that way.
I've never had any issues with internal memory on the X10 (1GB) and on XP you have 2GB so that's just fine. No real advantage for the XP here (in my case).
1GB Ram in XP is very good and all you could want in a phone. On the other hand the X10 is not so good in that respect with only 384mb, so a definite plus to the XP.
CONECTIVITY
Almost the same, little bit faster standards on XP but in normal use very hard to notice if you don't have a very fast network provider. Wireless signal is almost the same, maybe a tiny bit better on XP. X10 does not have NFC but in all fairness it's not THAT useful and i don't use it yet, maybe in the future...
CAMERA
Now this is an important section for me. I almost got the Xperia Sola but i went for the P because of the camera and i'm not sorry i did it.
The first thing you notice is how much faster it is than on the X10. So that comes in handy if you don't want to your friends to wait for a whole minute to take a picture or if you're on the move and you need to snap something fast.
X10 set a pretty high standard for me, i got used to it so much that i could take some really and i mean really nice photos. But that is when the lighting conditions are almost perfect. And i can say that the X10 i a match to the XP in those conditions. The quality would deteriate grately with sun loss.
Xperia P handles lower light better, not to mention it's very good flash so taking a photo in very bad lighting can turn out pretty good if you're not taking a picture more than 3m away.
The video recording is better on the P, quality is not SOO much better but the video itself is not jerky at all so it makes a big difference.
FRONT CAMERA
X10 has none. But actually, not such a big minus for the X10. The front facing camera on the XP is so bad that i don't even want to use it. If it's reeeeally necessary then i suppose it would do, but i don't like it at all.
SOFTWARE
Of course our beloved X10 is stuck on 2.3 which is not bad but...4.0 for the XP and the upcoming 4.1 means a lot. Unfortunately for the X10. But there is hope with all the great devs.
Actually, that's one thing i'm missing on the XP, it does not have such a good dev support as the X10. Not yet at least. So be prepared for that.
PERFORMANCE
XP wins here no question about it. Can X10 handle most of everyday tasks? Yes. But XP handles them lag free. Makes the phone a little bit easier to use. But in the UI itself, it's not such a huge difference. So if XP is 10 out of 10, i would give the X10 7.5 out of 10.
If you're gaming however, that's a different story and XP will eat X10 for breakfast here.
BATTERY
X10 is way better here. Ok not way better but just the fact that you can take out the battery means a world of difference. Change it for a better one, have a replacement...It's just better for me. Also it lasts a couple of hours longer.
From the XP you can expect it to last you one day of normal usage with ease. But any heavier usage will make the battery run for it's life quite fast. That said, it does charge quickly so if you have your charger close, it should not cause any problems.
CONCLUSION
Yes, i would buy it again. Am i impressed? Yes, but not as much to say YES. Overall the XP is a better phone in almost every way. It is a reasonable upgrade and i would recommend it. Keep in mind that all you have read are just my personal opinions (with a couple of facts).
ALTERNATIVE
As an alternative, i would get the Samsung Galaxy S2. It is similary priced and it's GPU and CPU are faster. Bigger screen is both positive and negative if you want to use it with one hand. Overall it is a tough decision between them so it will be individual. From HTC i would include the HTC Sensation. Though none of them has the style of the Xperia line. Again, personal preference.
Post your comments/questions. I'm here if you want to know more. Hope this helped someone.
Have a good one! :good:
How would you rate the XP to the htc One S? that's also the mid-range, though it's flagship material lol
If money is no issue then definitely the One S is a better device, with faster performance and a great screen. It depends for what you use your phone though. If it's just for normal use (with light gaming), then i don't think it's worth the money over the XP, performance wise.
Everything else seems pretty much the same as the XP but i've never user the One S so it's just my opinion.
But you can't really compare it, i don't think this is the same segment of phones. (although some might also call it mid range, for me dual core Krait should be considered lower high end)
cool review, i was going to do one comparing the X10 with the Xperia T, but the differences are kinda extreme lol
hehe thanks, yeah the T is another dimension
For users that will get the XP, i just got this case for the phone and it looks really good, very nice feel to it also. Just search for Xperia P TPU case on ebay and find the cheapest one for you.
But somehow I feel that the XpS is wayy too overpriced..probably because of its outdated chipset..
I may go for Samsung GS3 Xperia S or htc One X. Not too sure or maybe a palm pre? Lol but I think SGS3

You're better off with the one X. Its tops the S3 in benchmarks, meaning smoother performance. It's cheaper than the s3 as well...not to.mention its looks a damn sight better than the s3(which belongs in the trash IMO)
I would neither buy a xperia p nor a htc one x: to the first: i hate this transparent part which is simply ugly and a waste of place. To htc: I didnt like Htc at all till the One series came but i would take the one s or maybe the butterfly, but this is having such a big screen... not for everyone.
I will *maybe* buy a galaxy note (better for working) or the xperia V for the flagship. Maybe a nexus, but only if its gettin micro sd slot and (easily) removable battery. I also hope that the xperia neo L comes to europe, i pretty love the design. But i wont buy a new phone until my x10 dies. It is my first android phone and i love it.
A last question to the xperia p: on my x10 i hate it when i want to use it with wet fingers or when it has been in the cold and a litlle.bit water on the screen irritates it and i cant work at all with it. Is this better at the xperia p?
Greets

I expect so...it doesn't have a waterproof screen like the xperia go (which is pretty awesome)... although the V and the acro S would be able to handle a little water easily

Hey guys,
So I have been playing around with the camera on my Z Ultra and I wanted to share a few things with you.
1. DO NOT use Superior Auto at all!!
It destroys pretty much every photo and has too much noise and no sharpness. It's just shockingly bad.
2. Always use normal shooting mode.
3. Become comfortable adjusting settings and actually getting to know the camera so you know when to use appropriate ISO etc.
4. Adjust ISO yourself and keep it at 400 or below. Use in combination with HDR for some very pleasing results.
Those are the 4 most important tips I think. Never ever ever use superior auto. The results with normal mode are very crisp and have lots of sharpness and contrast.
Overall the camera I believe is better than the Xperia Z. I own both and with the right settings, the Z Ultras images appear sharper.
I'll post a few examples.
Thanks and how are you all liking the camera so far?
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Here are a few examples.
1 taking with Superior Auto. The other taking with Normal mode on ISO 100.
Be sure to zoom.in on the bottle. You can see so much noise on the photo taking with Superior Auto.
Hopefully the results speak for themselves
If you want other photos I'll be happy to provide them.

Way to much red in the photos taken with Superior Auto. Hopefully Sony will fix this in the next update. Btw, do you have the old Sony UI or the new one? (Old has a dark settings menu, while the new one is white)
I have the Old UI with the Bravia Engine 2.
New UI should be released in about a months time. Hopefully sooner

I'm buying it as soon as it hits the stores in Norway, which i believe is in the first week of september(?), like the rest of Europe.
Unless a different beast emerges from the depths of hell somewhere, that is (which i highly doubt, so ZU it is.)
Is it not the last week of September it gets released in Europe?
Its funny right now, I am slowly becoming to accept the Z Ultras size as normal and the 6.4" display as normal.
Even when I pick up a 5" device now, it feels so tiny!! Haha
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
According to news sources, the release date for europe is september 6th.
I had the same experience when i got my Note. I came from the Desire HD with a 4.3" display, so the Note's size was ridiculous at that time, and i remember laughing my ass of when i unboxed it! Now? Not big at all. It's the same thing with the iPhone. I had the first gen. from the states and a 3GS, and they were really big at the time, but i just laugh at its tiny body now
When do you think phones will stop growing? I imagine 7" with almost no bezels at all will be the limit.
Unboxing my Ultra though, I did laugh when I seen it and my first day carrying it to work etc, quite a surprise haha.
Me personally I love big phones though, can never understand people who say they don't want anything bigger than 4.5 - 4.7 inches.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Good question, and i have no idea, but i think we are near the limit now. IF the OEM's are planning on something even bigger, then i guess they'll have to make them without any bezels. That would be awesome and i guess a little science fiction looking
Something like this:

I agree. I love big devices and my Xperia Z feels really tiny in comparison but one thing is for sure: I think the Ultra is the biggest size that a phablet can have and still being pocketable.
It fits my pockets but I notice that I can't carry a bigger device in them. The future development could be smaller bezels and therefore perhaps a 6,8 and perhaps even a 7 inch screen. I would even guess that the small tablets like the Nexus 7 will be replaced by phablets with the same screen size but smaller body (Ultra size).
So the future market will offer phablets up to 7 inch, then tablets starting at 8 inches and upwards followed by dockable "tablets" with screens of 12 inches and bigger. The small tablet is going to become a phablet - adding smaller bezels and a smaller body to the existing 7 inch screen and putting a dialer on is a straight forward development, especially when the Nexus 7 has connectivity to mobile networks already and the old Galaxy Tab could make calls.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 edition of the Nexus 7 will be a phablet and that Sony are creating a partly new market with the Z Ultra.
Coming from iPhone 5, the UZ produces astoundingly bad overprocessed images. What's coming off the sensor is actually pretty good as you can see if you shoot in burst mode since that is the only setting that doesn't add a massive sharpness filter to the output. All other modes are crap. Massive over sharpening and then saving at what has to be 50% jpg quality. I don't get the mentality of putting in user defined ISO settings but forcing sharpening and jpg quality.

1. Always set the camera to Normal mode.
2. Set the ISO at a maximum of 400 and not higher.
3. Use HDR on occasions where it might be needed.
On those settings you will get sharp images. Of course, you have to learn the camera a little yourself too.

Hey guys, I have a Z Ultra and a Z1 (my dad's). He's letting me keep his Z1 in exchange for my Ultra. But I like my Ultra's screen but the Z1 has a better camera
Here are the pros of the devices as I see them:
Z Ultra -
1. Bigger screen
2. Can use a pencil
3. I've grown to like it :silly:
Z1:
1. Better ROMs (or at least, more)
2. Good camera
3. Bigger speakers
4. Smaller overall size
Now, the screen size of the Z1 is really small, I mean, it's tiny ! But it's got a better camera and 2 months of college have taught me how important a camera is . Add to that the fact that it has a better contrast ratio than the Z Ultra and I've got a sound conundrum on my hands...
Do any of you have any advice ?

Okay, WAREFAREONLY (LOL), I would pick the Ultra. The screen is huge and has way better viewing angles than the Z1 (Ultra uses an AH-IPS LCD while the Z1 uses a VA LCD) and therefore it's easier to use (browsing, gaming etc.), its design is much better than the Z1 (subjective) and it's so freaking thin. We got ROMs and the Z1 and Ultra share the same internals, so cross development is expected down the road, so it's all good in that department. The only negative aspects of it is the camera.
Z1: Chubby with a nice camera
Ultra: Anorexic with a bad camera

Personally, this is how I see it from the XZU point of view.
1. Camera isn't an issue. For perfectly good quality pictures, use a decent third party app. OK, no flash is an issue if night pictures are required. Personally I've never seen the appeal of phone cameras... I'd always use an slr.
2. Yes, the z1 has more developers, but I guarantee we'll be getting those roms as pretty much direct ports.
3. Speakers on a phone have never been intended as anything other than for notifications. Headphones will always be needed for actual media unless you're a bit weird.
4. If you got the XZU, there's something in you that loves this screen. I've looked at all the other 5.8 inch and lower screens and they are far too small. This is a true phablet and makes media stand out by a mile. You won't get that many other places. Thats all this phone is really about.
Stick with XZU. No comparison.

Well.. you are only going to get a bias opinion from us. We are ultra owners.. so we obviously want the big screen.
I moved from the Galaxy S4 to the Ultra. Purely for the screen size.
I still had my S4 a few days ago, until i sold it. I picked it up to take some better images, but didn't want to use it. It has a better camera (like the Z1) but its just too small. In fact its bordering on ugly!
The Z1 is similar, but just to fat. Like Lord says.. I can't go to a fatter device, or a smaller device... The Ultra is for me! and I would think you would hate moving to a smaller device also.
Additionally @SpyderTracks makes a good point. I've made 3 posts in the app section regarding mods that were originated on the Z1, and will work for the ultra. So expect what ever happens with the Z1 to happen to the ultra.
Well, you decide whats better for you, but there are some facts and imprecision to revaluate in your points:
Z1 has not a better Rom, they have just updates at different stage.
Z1 has not a "tiny" screen, is a top huge smartphone sized for its class.
Ultra is +- 6mm thick
Z1 has not a better screen than Ultra
Ultra is more suitable for book reading too
Z1 has a better camera but now there is the option QX10 around: Ultra + QX10 = better camera than Z1, of course..for who dont care carrying much sized stuff outside.

I just can't be separated from this huge, beautiful screen !
Thanks for your opinions guys ! Much appreciated
Or you could just get the best of both worlds
Walking around with nearly 1500 USD stuffed in my pockets is not really an option

Thank you all for taking the time to read this !
