Ok, I was about to buy one Xperia Sola for me. But, then I saw the Xperia Go, with Dust and Water protection, that made my eyes shine!
I would love a durable phone like that.
But the biggest problem on Xperia Go it's the screen resolution , very very very bad. Really.
Right now I'm using one HTC Nexus One, I want to buy a smaller phone with +2.3, so I found the Xperia Sola, very good. But the Xperia Go, made me think.
I use the N1 for reading a lot on the go (bus going home), but I don't like to use covers and protections when I'm outside or keeping worried about break my phone.
Well, the question is, will I notice the resolution difference so much changing from N1 to Go?
N1: 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches (~252 ppi pixel density)
Xperia Go: 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches (~165 ppi pixel density)
Should I change or go to Sola with 480 x 854 pixels, 3.7 inches (~265 ppi pixel density)
I know it's all personal, but some advice would be good
Thanks!
Go for the sola..it has bigger screen and would b great for reading... But the GO would b more durable...
Yes once coming from a high ppi device you can notice the difference....
The choice is yours.. That's why Sony made all these handsets so consumers can pick what they need most..

Dont you just wish xperia go screen should be at least 3.7?
Me too

It depends of what do u want to do with your phone!
If u keep it in a case and don't do some extreme sport with your phone i suggest u the sola (cause of its better screen, resolution ecc ecc); but if u need a phone that could be exposed to some risk like falling in the water or something else Go is better..

I am a huge fan of the Galaxy S phones but doesn't it bother anyone that the phone is only a 480 x 800 resolution while other phones like the htc amaze 4g (which has a 1.5 ghz snapdragon processor) has 540 x 960 and the iphone 4 has 640 x 960.
Honestly I don't know much about resolution but i would like to know that the phone i have wont be obsolete in the next few months.

The screen will be the very least of your worries, not that anything else should worry you.
No nothing else worries me this phone is fast as hell it will take some time before this phone is obsolete in any of the other areas

Go to the store and take a look at the screen, it is incredibly gorgeous, that you won't even pay attention to the resolution.

Bear in mind that the iPhone display uses 3 RGB subpixels to display a pixel, while the Super AMOLED screens use 8 and Super AMOLED+ screens use 12.
While this doesn't necessarily give you more detail or higher resolution, each pixel isn't as blocky or square as you'd imagine.
The only thing that bothers me is the saturation is a little....too colorful. I have a green forest background, and it looks like some magical neon green forest. Very vibrant. It reminds me of NVidia's Digital Vibrancy settings at max.
Hey i got the samsung galaxy s2 with SUPER AMOLED Plus but im looking at HTC One X with HD 720p...
Wot screen would be better?
Nub question i know but i just want to be sure.
Thanks
You're comparing a phone that came out last year to a one that was just announced, of course the htc one x has the better screen due to its resolution but its blacks are nowhere near as good as samoled screens. I'd at least wait for the galaxy s3 and compare those side by side.
HTC One X with HD 720p screen will be better... is HD..... the screen of SGSII is not HD...in the last update of the APP YouTube, can play videos in HD (in compatible phones), but in the SGSII no

Whilst I would love a 720p screen, I don't want just any 720p screen, it's gotta be samoled or ips+.
$1 gets you a reply
The One X has a 720p (non pentile) and uses LCD 2 technology. I've heard it looks amazing

720p screen would be better, some people don't like the saturated colors of AMOLED screen.
I doubt that on a 4 inch screen you can tell whether its HD or not!
Why don't you just go to a shop and look at them, with your eyes? You can't be sure which you will prefer by asking people here.

HD looks better
HD screen def looks better! but for everyday use think amoled trumps it battery wise.
People make a big deal over 720p screens while I would like it its not a big deal to me 480x800 super amoled+ looks fine, to me there's not much difference. my wife couldn't tell the difference between my gs2 and the nitro. she said mine looked better
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
You can play hd on sgs2!
hmm personally i think that the AMOLED screen does a mighty fine job at being sharp and clear... personally i like how vibrant the colours are and the option to tone it down via Display/Mode.
I don't really see the point in 720p HD on cellphones... >.> I rather buy a tablet.
Till you reach that 300ppi, you can still see differences. For example, the eBuddy icon in my status bar on my HTC Desire looked sharper then the one nkw on my S II.
Desire: 800x480 over 3.7 inches
S II: the same 800x480, over a bigger 4.3 inches
I will not calculate the ppi, but obviosly I could see the difference between the 2. I think the S II has somewhere around 200-220 ppi, HTC Desire around 240-260.
Most of the Android phone's with 720p displays have above 300ppi, like the iPhone's retina display. At that point, you really can't see those pixels anymore. Anyway, the S II's screen is amazing .. i love it. But to be honest that HTC One X' display is better from what I have seen.
Best thing is to wait a month to see the what the S III's like and then decide. I always hate people that buy a phone and then cry a better one comes out after 2 months... wait till all options are revealed and then buy! That moment will be after the Galaxy S III
@XDA mark
Galaxy S2 ~217 ppi
HTC Desire ~252 ppi
Thanks for the feedback guys, ill see wot the sg3 brings
I'd like to see NFC , HD Resolution and 3.5 inch screen! because its a ray :
-3.5 Inch Screen
-HD Resolution imagen the ppi!!!! current ppi of xperia ray is 296ppi bump to 416 ppi!!!
-Waterproof??
-1Gb Ram
-NFC
-Part of NXT series (plz?)
-1.5 Ghz Dual Proccessor
-Play Station Certified!
That would make an ultimate phone which is small thin and cute XD
Yeah, but Sony first has to invent a "Shrink"gun .... you know why
lolS but it may be possible in the future
You are aware of the Xperia U right ?
More like xperia SX. Too bad it is japan only.

right
but what do you want to see in ray 2 or ray s or ray s2
This one looks quite the same as Ray but with better hardware:
Sony Xperia SX SO-05D
sorry, didn't check the entire page from previous SX link
yeah, the next Ray is SX.
If they release it world wide, the phone top will be narrower (without tv antenna) which is making the phone look surprising handsome
Xperia ion HSPA. It is goddamn cool.

3.5', NFC, video-out, 1gb ram, dual core (open), hd screen, under 9mm
Physical aspect of the next ray that i want
- Same curve shape
- Small dimension (sx size is okay, just slightly bigger).
- Physical home button and button arrangement (It's better than the transparent strip of nxt series In my opinion)
- Dedicated Camera Button
It would be nice if we can have a small dedicated keyboard to plug inside micro usb slot and double as external battery/charger

mm xperia SX, i love this phone, is the real succesor of the RAY.
Same design, more hardware.
Design makes it Ray. Not others.
1. Same size and body shape. Even 3.5" is much bigger. And current body style is very beautiful, distinguishable.
2. 1Gb RAM, maybe faster CPU - just to run ICS smoothly. Ok, let it be two cores, just because of current marketing trends...
3. Dust and water resistant. Without that ugly yellow/orange pastic/rubber everywhere, diving ability, IP67 etc. I just want to not be afraid of rain when I'm riding my bycicle, camping, sleeping drank on the street
4. Same MicroSD slot. I hate when they remove card support and put ugly 8GB of ROM inside, while my current music collection is about 10Gb. C'mon, guys, flash memory costs nothing now, why do you create such stupid limits?!
That's all. I don't need higher camera and screen resolution, better sound, camera button and so on.
Current Xperia model line doesn't contains something I can call "Ray 2.0". They do great top models, but it's too big for me. They do very interesting and fresh design, but use limited hardware (480x320 screen, limited ROM, 512 RAM...)
So Ray stays unique, stays best for my needs.
I too like the Xperia SX.
If they give it a slightly more angular look like the ray has then that'd be my next phone...
I was thinking ... hmm the ray would be a lot better with MHL, 1gb Ram and NFC... Ah hello Xperia SX
That said I'll be holding on to my Ray until christmas at least... Perhaps I'll take a Samsung GS3 at that time... Unless Sony sells the SX in Europe :-D
Does the SX have an Led notifier?
Hi guys
I was going to buy Xperia Sola but i bumped into Xperia Go .
I can't see much of a difference between them,Can you tell me which phone you think is better.
Please help me choose a phone.
Depends on you...
Reasons why Sola is better:
1.Bigger Screen and resolution : 3.7inch and 854*480 pixel (~265 ppi pixel density) whereas Go is 3.5 inch with 480*320 pixels (~165 ppi pixel density)
Therefore Display of SOLA is much better and sharper than GO
2.Floating touch, though there are not many places you can find this feature useful, but with ICS there will be better usability of floating touch.
Reason(s) why Go is better:
1.Dust and Water proof.
Rest of the specs are same AFAIK.
Now its up to you, if you spend more time doing adventure sports, buy GO,else if you want to use a phone with bigger and clearer screen, buy Sola...ICS for both of them will come around the same time...
If you want a rough, water resistant, dust resistant phone than go for Xperia GO
Otherwise Sola is a better option as it has bigger screen with better resolution
Thanks very much guys.:good:
I am not gona change my mind any more , I am going to get a Sola

Hey guys,
So I have been playing around with the camera on my Z Ultra and I wanted to share a few things with you.
1. DO NOT use Superior Auto at all!!
It destroys pretty much every photo and has too much noise and no sharpness. It's just shockingly bad.
2. Always use normal shooting mode.
3. Become comfortable adjusting settings and actually getting to know the camera so you know when to use appropriate ISO etc.
4. Adjust ISO yourself and keep it at 400 or below. Use in combination with HDR for some very pleasing results.
Those are the 4 most important tips I think. Never ever ever use superior auto. The results with normal mode are very crisp and have lots of sharpness and contrast.
Overall the camera I believe is better than the Xperia Z. I own both and with the right settings, the Z Ultras images appear sharper.
I'll post a few examples.
Thanks and how are you all liking the camera so far?
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Here are a few examples.
1 taking with Superior Auto. The other taking with Normal mode on ISO 100.
Be sure to zoom.in on the bottle. You can see so much noise on the photo taking with Superior Auto.
Hopefully the results speak for themselves
If you want other photos I'll be happy to provide them.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Way to much red in the photos taken with Superior Auto. Hopefully Sony will fix this in the next update. Btw, do you have the old Sony UI or the new one? (Old has a dark settings menu, while the new one is white)
I have the Old UI with the Bravia Engine 2.
New UI should be released in about a months time. Hopefully sooner
When are you buying your Ultra?

I'm buying it as soon as it hits the stores in Norway, which i believe is in the first week of september(?), like the rest of Europe.
Unless a different beast emerges from the depths of hell somewhere, that is (which i highly doubt, so ZU it is.)
Is it not the last week of September it gets released in Europe?
Its funny right now, I am slowly becoming to accept the Z Ultras size as normal and the 6.4" display as normal.
Even when I pick up a 5" device now, it feels so tiny!! Haha
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
According to news sources, the release date for europe is september 6th.
I had the same experience when i got my Note. I came from the Desire HD with a 4.3" display, so the Note's size was ridiculous at that time, and i remember laughing my ass of when i unboxed it! Now? Not big at all. It's the same thing with the iPhone. I had the first gen. from the states and a 3GS, and they were really big at the time, but i just laugh at its tiny body now
When do you think phones will stop growing? I imagine 7" with almost no bezels at all will be the limit.
Unboxing my Ultra though, I did laugh when I seen it and my first day carrying it to work etc, quite a surprise haha.
Me personally I love big phones though, can never understand people who say they don't want anything bigger than 4.5 - 4.7 inches.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Good question, and i have no idea, but i think we are near the limit now. IF the OEM's are planning on something even bigger, then i guess they'll have to make them without any bezels. That would be awesome and i guess a little science fiction looking
Something like this:

I agree. I love big devices and my Xperia Z feels really tiny in comparison but one thing is for sure: I think the Ultra is the biggest size that a phablet can have and still being pocketable.
It fits my pockets but I notice that I can't carry a bigger device in them. The future development could be smaller bezels and therefore perhaps a 6,8 and perhaps even a 7 inch screen. I would even guess that the small tablets like the Nexus 7 will be replaced by phablets with the same screen size but smaller body (Ultra size).
So the future market will offer phablets up to 7 inch, then tablets starting at 8 inches and upwards followed by dockable "tablets" with screens of 12 inches and bigger. The small tablet is going to become a phablet - adding smaller bezels and a smaller body to the existing 7 inch screen and putting a dialer on is a straight forward development, especially when the Nexus 7 has connectivity to mobile networks already and the old Galaxy Tab could make calls.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 edition of the Nexus 7 will be a phablet and that Sony are creating a partly new market with the Z Ultra.
Coming from iPhone 5, the UZ produces astoundingly bad overprocessed images. What's coming off the sensor is actually pretty good as you can see if you shoot in burst mode since that is the only setting that doesn't add a massive sharpness filter to the output. All other modes are crap. Massive over sharpening and then saving at what has to be 50% jpg quality. I don't get the mentality of putting in user defined ISO settings but forcing sharpening and jpg quality.

I do not have these issues. The only problems i have is when the phone is using Superior Auto.
Any other mode is perfectly sharp and noise free. I have also compared it to my iPhone 5 and the photos are very very comparable when you get the settings right.

1. Always set the camera to Normal mode.
2. Set the ISO at a maximum of 400 and not higher.
3. Use HDR on occasions where it might be needed.
On those settings you will get sharp images. Of course, you have to learn the camera a little yourself too.
