Mod/tweaks for better battery and internet question - Motorola Photon 4G

This is great mod, The internet is fast without overclocking to 1300, but i still experienced batt drain. My batt totally drain in max 5 hours.
Please guide me how to run this mod correctly. What i ve done was, add that 3 lines on buidprop, save and wait my phone to totally drain the battery. And while charging i go to cwm, wipe dalvik cache an wipe batt status and reboot the phone.
I have tried on different rom cm 10 0.1.2 and cna nightly but still have battery drain. Now i m on aokp nightly.
Please help, I really like to have this mod running on my mopo.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.

This mod must be applied with fresh install only otherwise won't work.. to apply this edit build.prop in zip before flashing ... or ask devs to include this...
(I already asked bill so don't worry, he forgot to include due to overload)
Although the main reason for battery draining is you might be on continuous 3g / hsd connections ... my mod can only save battery if you have fluctuated network connection ... the better internet speed the more battery drainage .. :banghead:

Thanks matrix, i will patiently waiting for the dev to include this mod on jb roms or i might try one more time lol.
Thanks for the advise.

Thank you. I ve been running on aokp nightly for almost a day and the battery only last max 5 hours till totally drain hehehe. So i used juice defender instead. For 7 hours my batt reduce only 50%. Is there a way to switch the 3g off. The widget i used doesnt work probably it only work in gsm. Thank you and sorry again if i m annoying you all dev.

just turn off data and choose gsm only whenever you are not using internet. i think its pretty simple

Sorry for my bad english, what i meant was i wanted to change from 3g to 1x just like 3g to 2g on gsm. My 3g reception was bad and very unstable in my office. And i wanted to save my battery. Rather than i used juice defender. Thank you and sorry again.

If you only want to use 1x then do the followings..
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Tap the "Phone Information"
3. Scroll to the Botton
4. Tap "Turn off Radio"
4. Tap the " Set preferred network type" just above it
5. Select "CDMA only"
6. Tap "Turn on Radio"
Thats it.. you are done...
Now your phone will stay on 1x network only... Although it will show 3G icon only...
You can check the reception type in "Settings>About Phone>Status>Mobile Network type"
It will show CDMA 1x RTT

Not getting 3G when phone in my hand...

I am having this problem with my phone at home. If I don't touch the phone it shows 3G signal but as soon as I pick it up it goes down to Edge/Gprs. And as soon as I go outside it works normally. Don't know why this is happning. I thought it might be CM Rom so I revert back to stock rom but it didn't work.
So Please help.

You mean select 3g only under data connection setting? Would that increase speed? I don't know why I'm having such issue.
And do you know where exactly is the antenna located?
Yes ..i meant that ..it improves signal capturing capability and also helps unwanted battery wastage by preventin your fone from consatly searchin 2g/3g..about speed might be very marginal..;-)

LTE only mode

Sorry if this was ask before...
So i heard if you put your phone on cdma only it will save some battery because is not looking for both signals "dual mode" I believe. Is there a way to put LTE only so my phone don't have to look for 3G signal and maybe save some juice?
Thanks in Advance

Only if you want battery drain. Imho there isn't a phone on the market that comes stock aside from the Maxx that is viable to run LTE only for any extended period of time. The hardware technology hasn't matured enough to keep up with the resource drain LTE uses. I rarely ever have it turned on myself.

If there were, it would no longer be a phone. Currently, on Verizon, LTE is data only. All calls go over the CDMA side.

If you did that, you wouldn't get any phone service either
I swear there was a setting for LTE only. I believe I came across it once while messing around with some settings trying to get 4G back, before I found out it was a outage lol... It bumped me off of 3G and put me on 1X.

There is a setting that is CDMA+LTE only. So you get calls and texts over 1X and have 4G, but if your 4G drops you go to 1X. However, that is how the phone works even with 3G turned on so there are no battery savings.

if you set it for 3g only does that save on battery and how do you do that exactly?
You can actually do it two ways under settings go to power-power mode- and choose normal performace(instead of high) OR under settings- wireless & networks- mobile network settings- network mode and choose cdma only!
Hope that helped!

It's an ICS thing. The new update messed with our signal. The only way to fix it is to S-Off and go back to Gingerbread.

Sorry for the late reply, you can search for modems I can provide a link if necessary but a Google search should be fine and you will need to root and have cwm installed to do this or use a flash tool or Odin if you have a galaxy,

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

Any way to disable LTE 4G and 3G data?

I am always on wifi so I don't need LTE, 4G, HSPA or 3G.... is there any way I can force 2G or edge only on an AT&T locked Galaxy Note i717? I've looked all over the forums and people say go into the menu and select that option, but it doesn't work. Same with apps, don't work. I've read flashing a different modem will enable that option to work, but won't I need an unlocked phone to do so?

Well like I said I'm on wifi all day and don't need LTE killing my battery for no reason. And, so I can still send or receive pictures.
LTE/Data is automatically disabled when you connect to wifi. No need to do anything. It will turn itself on automatically to receive/send mms.

That is Apple's "innovation" for you right there. This is Android. Android turns off cellular data when on wifi and only turns it on when needed for MMS.
You notice how when on wifi you don't see a 4g icon? Send an mms and you will see it pop up long enough for the message to be sent and then disappear.
That is your phone automatically enabling/disabling cellular data when needed/not needed.
Ok, well to get this back on track I'd like to force 2G or even 3G no matter what. Any solution for me?
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and hit phone information. Scroll down and in the drop down list and choose GSM Only. Reboot.

Nope. Even on wifi, say If you're sending or receiving MMS it will use your data (4G or LTE). Also, unless you have it turned on while the phone is asleep, your phone will switch back to 4G for downloading or synchronize data. 2G takes longer to download information because of he slower speed which causes the phone to drain battery because the phone would still be downloading the data.

Question for AT&T users.

I had a question for you guys using the international on AT&T.
On my GS2 I remember when data was not being used and was idle the signal meter would show 3G and switch to UMTS and when I used the connection it would switch to H/H+ HSPA.
With my GS3 however, it's constantly showing H even when it's idle. It's NEVER really goes into UMTS mode even when it's idle. I've seen it switch to 3G for a split second every now and then, but then switches right back to H in a split second. In my status I see it's using the HSPA network, not UMTS. The times that I saw it switch to 3g for a split second (I happened to have the status open) I saw it switch to UMTS then switch right back to HSPA.
I know switching to UMTS when the connection is idle saves battery life So I'm wondering since mine doesnt switch to UMTS if it's affecting the battery life
I've tried different modems, in network settings it's set to Auto.
So my question (after that wall of text) is does your phone switch the UMTS when it's idle and show 3G? Or is it constantly showing H like mine?
I'm trying to figure out why the hell it wont stay in UMTS when there is no data activity. If it does switch to 3G/UMTS when it's idle anyone have any ideas what could be going on with mine?
anyone? lol
