Hi all,
Currently i've begun creating splash screens using this method [Link]
However after rebooting my phone with the file on my SD card it says "parsing" and doesn't go any further...
Please help meh!

Did you make sure you included the android-txt file in the PG86IMG.zip folder?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I did,
Is that android-info.txt file supposed to be editted?
or are there different android-info.txt for CDMA and GSM EVO 3D's?

Did you relock your bootloader?
Your bootloader needs to be locked to be able to update with PG86IMG.zip (or any other).
Relocked didn't work. It's looking pretty grim.
Nononononononononononono you don't lock you bootloader to update PG86IMG's that makes it impossible. Your bootloader has to be UNLOCKED and you HAVE to be S-OFF

I've flashed PG86IMG.zip all the time with Unlocked bootloader. I would not relock it.
Let me ask an obvious question -- are you s-off? If you are s-on it will never work.
**** actually after I thought about it for a min, it doesn't matter if your bootloader says Locked, or Unlocked or Relocked as long as you are S-OFF you can flash the file.
and yes it does matter if its GSM or CDMA.

Wait what? Are you talking about the splash screen? or the boot annimation?
Because you cannot flash the splash screen while s-on. Impossible!
The splash screen is the White HTC screen by default. This screen sits in the same partition as the Firmware and Radio and you cannot access it while S-On. Again I say Impossible!
My bootloader actually say locked buy I'm s-off. I can flash the splash screen , radio or firmware at any time. Does not have to be unlocked as long as you are s-off.
Thank you all for your feedback,
However I am S-OFF (Using the Unlimited.IO solution) with their version of HBOOT (This may be the cause)
I am currently testing all options before releasing any more items.
Rezipping a splashscreen using winrar not 7zip - Completed
Recreating the .bmp file - Completed
Flashing the splashscreen using fastboot - Completed
Still having the issue :crying:
If anyone could shed some light onto why my PG86IMG.zip files aren't getting past the "parsing" phase that would be wonderful.

It looks like you are GSM from your signature correct?
Try flashing this one and see if it flashes: Its the one I use. At least you'd know if you phone can do it.

You could also take the zip apart and compare this one that works to yours to see what might be causing it not to.

Ohh I see what has gone wrong, The android-info.txt doesn't have CID numbers listed and also doesn't list the model number.
I will recreate the few I have already done and try again thank you guys.

It seems like the questions about returning to 100% stock are coming up more often lately, possibly because more users are moving on to other devices. Whatever the reason, I thought a simple guide might be useful to avoid having to duplicate this info in other threads and PM's.
This procedure should work for any CDMA or GSM Evo 3D/V that is S-OFF. There is no way to get an S-ON device that has been HTC unlocked back to 100% stock since relocking the bootloader will result in a status of "relocked".
Here are the steps to do it:
1. Flash the "query_bootloader.zip" file attached to this post in recovery. If the status message shows your bootloader is "unlocked" or "relocked" flash the "lock_bootloader.zip" file from the same post to reset it to "locked".
2. Download an RUU.exe (Windows) or RUU.zip (bootloader) file for your model from this page and flash it using the appropriate method.
If you use the .exe version from Windows it works best if you put the phone into "fastboot USB" mode, and you may have to cancel the RUU utility and restart if it hangs after flashing the stock bootloader when you start with a custom hboot installed.
To flash the RUU.zip via the bootloader it must be renamed to PG86IMG.zip and placed in the root of your SD card, and may need to be flashed twice if a custom hboot is installed the first time it is flashed.
I recommend using the latest version for your model but any compatible RUU can be flashed while S-OFF. It's also a good idea to boot the ROM without doing any setup after flashing the RUU to make sure the ROM has been reset to the stock version.
3. Confirm that the bootloader shows "***LOCKED***" on the top line of the screen and the HBOOT version is a stock bootloader for your device.
4. Issue the "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" command from a PC.
Note: Make 100% sure you have the stock bootloader installed before issuing this command or you will brick your phone.
Your phone will now be 100% stock.

Thanks for the nice toturial but i´m just wondering one thing.
If you fail with the command
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
, will your phone get hardbricked or is it possible to flash a recovery and start over again with fastboot?

If that command fails nothing will happen and your phone will stay S-OFF but the odds of that happening are very small unless your phone is not in "fastboot usb" mode when you issue it.
The risk involves issuing that command when you have a custom hboot like JBear or Revolutionary installed because those bootloaders are not signed and will cause the phone to brick. In that scenario you would not be able to get into recovery.

Ok thanks man.
Ok, in the RUU's I can download I have 2 problems:
1) How do I know which one to download? I see a few that have Sprint ICS. I have the Virgin Mobile phone Evo V 4g. Which one would I get?
2) I have already tried downloading a few of them, and each time it stops at a different point and windows says the zip file is not valid. Is there another place I can download the correct RUU?
I need to get this done soon as I have a replacement headed this way.

This is the wrong thread for what you need to do and I posted a link to the correct guide in the thread you opened in the development forum that got moved to Q&A.
When you are ready to download the RUU look for the 2.89.651.2 version.

thank you ramjet for the link. my phone is now 99% stock. The 1% is because of the S-OFF part of the bootloader. It shows it is locked so that's good, but I think that means I can't turn S-ON, as it says in the first post. Oh well, hopefully they will accept it like that.

Which RUU do i use for a Sprint Evo 3?
I'd like to follow the instructions here; you pointed me to this OP in another reply when I asked how to go back to stock, but I don't know which one to use. I'm on hboot 1.50.5050 running CM 10.1 on a Sprint Evo 3D, using "Wild for the Night" and I want to go back to 100% stock, S-ON, unrooted, locked.
Is 'WWE' the US version? I know not to use RUUs for other countries but I can't tell which to use from the list.
(I used the jbear wire trick and have Ext4 installed if it makes any difference.)

Hey guys. Yes I have searched, but have only found instructions so far for going back to stock gingerbread.
I need to send my amaze in to get fixed under warranty, and I'm assuming they won't like it if I send them the phone with an unlocked bootloader, rooted, and CM10 installed, and that's what I need help with. How can I reinstall stock ICS, unroot, and lock the bootloader of the amaze? And will it show as "relocked" or "locked"? Of course I plan on putting the root and unlocked bootloader and CM10 once I get it back, so I'm looking for a reversible way to do this. Thanks in advance!
Just to be clear. For your bootloader to say 'locked' you'll need to have S-Off and NOT unlock the bootloader again. But once that's done just flash the ICS ruu. Here's a link

Thank you. So I am S-ON right now. In order to make the bootloader say "locked" again to make HTC happy with my warranty, I'd have to be stuck with ICS and whatever updates HTC decides to give us from then on once I got it back from HTC?
No. That's the only way for it to say "locked" if you relock it it will say "relocked"
So if you really want it to say "locked" you'll need to S-Off first. Then flash the RUU.
Once you get it back you can do as you feel.

Im just not really sure which part u think would make it stuck. Let us know and im sure we can explain the cofusion
After unlocking the bootloader with S-ON and installing a custom recovery/rom how do you revert to Stock.
I've tried relocking the bootloader, and using the AllinOneToolkit by Hanson to install the Factory RUU but it keeps failing after the HTC boot logo appears and the zip RUU file gets transferred to the phone. Keeps saying Failed with 12 signatures or something.
Then I read with S-ON that you had to use Hanson's tool and perform Fix Mainver, but that doesnt do anything either. Keeps saying, error cannot find device.
So, how do I go back to Stock?
Would appreciate any help!
Boot into fastboot, type "fastboot OEM lock" in the command prompt. Put the appropriate RUU on your external SD card and rename it PH85ING.zip and boot into bootloader.
Edit: its PH85IMG.zip. sorry about my fatty fingers. Also, make sure to check the md5 sum on the RUU. I always had trouble with the download.

I recently bought a replacement Rezound, which has Hboot 2.25/Radios 1.22.10 0421r &0424r. I have unlocked the bootloader and installed TWERP 2.6.3.0 and Infection 2.9.1. I am sure I should have thought of this before installing Infection, but my battery life is worse than my original phone and it runs hot. No reboots or other problems.
I have searched for instructions and recommendations for upgrading Hboot, but haven't found anything clear enough to overcome my nervousness about this process. I have one bricked phone on the desk in front of me and I don't want another. I will be grateful to anyone who can recommend what Hboot to flash (I'm thinking 2.27 or 2.28?) and guide me through the process.
Thanks,

I downloaded all three files and checked md5 - all checked out. I then put the 1st file on the root directory of my ex sd card, renamed it PH98IMG.zip and rebooted into the unlocked bootloader. Bootloader recognized the zip, the progress bar appeared and the file transferred. Then the progress bar disappeared and nothing else happened. There was no instruction to press Volume up. I repeated everything and got the same result. I can still boot into TWERP and my phone still starts up with Infection 2.9.1.
Let me say at this point, THANK GOD NOTHING BAD HAPPENED!

I can boot into Hboot, but when I try to open Recovery I first get the green arrows (circle and down), then I get the red triangle with exclamation mark. I noticed they were smaller. I installed the 1st OTA with the bootloader relocked. The 2nd OTA wouldn't complete installation locked or unlocked. I reflashed the first OTA just to make sure and the process worked flawlessly. The 2nd OTA acts like it is loading, but I don't get the notice to press Vol Up.
If you think of a way that might work to get the other OTAs installed, let me know.

I guess you haven't thought of anything.
I am thinking of having another go at installing all three OTAs. I have installed CWM and TACHYON. I don't have FCs or bootloops, but my battery life is poor, the camera doesn't work and the phone runs hot (>110). I have tried SetCPU with limited success.
You and others have stated that outdated HBOOT/radios can cause overheating, so I want to try.
Question: Do I need to do a factory reset and start over with the 1st OTA?
Thanks again for all of your help.

If you're at hboot 2.27, that's not your problem, you have other issues, being you're s-on, how did you flash the kernel for Tachyon?

according to flyhalf as the this 3rd was uploaded by him you just need a relocked bootloader for s-on....im s-off though but can guarantee links work as i just used them...but in all seriouness if your not really using stock i highly suggest gaining s-off as it will make life easier....plus it has less of a chance on fully and permanently bricking your rez...with s-on there isnt really much you can do in a brick
Ok guys i got a Verizon One Max.
It was unlocked and s-off. My friend want me to work fingerprint after i re-lock it stuck at bootloader screen.
S-on Locked and Security warning.
I manage to remove security warning.
Problems ;
* Can't unlock from HTCDEV
* Doesnt boot up stock at hboot screen
Tried :
Flash ruu.zip
I got error.
Is there any Ruu exe file or stock ruu.zip VZW__001 ?

I am not sure if you are able to enter the bootloader, if you are, try a factory reset.
I think you also have stock recovery, else you could have tried to flash a ROM.
If both the above are not there, i think you could visit the HTC service Since your phone is LOCKED and S-On, there is almost no way they can find that you messed up with it.
@benzersizadam
Are you saying its stuck at the boot loader? If its stuck you since you are s-on you could copy the ruu file (named appropriately for flashing from hboot) to your SD card and let hboot flash it back to stock. Then s-off again. To relock for finger print scanning purposes you do NOT have to be s-on ...just relocked
If you are truly S-on you will need the encrypted version of the RUU (I have a copy if u need it).
You will also need to put the file on your SD card and have it named 0P3PIMG.zip
Then boot to hboot and let it run (should reboot twice).

If you share a copy of Ruu with me i will be very happy. I think copy to sdcard and flash via hboot is only solution for me.

I will pm you the link shortly...I will have it named exactly as you need it to be so do not rename it. Just copy to root of SD card and boot phone to hboot. The original rum runner still works on vzw's release version as there have been zero otas so far.

Problem is the intl version is still carrier specific. It would be like saying that the sprint and Verizon ones are the American version....you need the one for your carrier. Is the one you got already s off?

If it's international do the HTC dev unlock option and at least get boot loader unlocked so you can get back to stock and hopefully s off. Or look for someone offering java card service near you as they can immediately s off the phone...no os required.

trying to gain root again than turn s-off with firewater and last but not least lock the bootloader again with s-off so that i can use the fingerprint scanner
thanks for your help though to honest i did that like before seeing your msg anyways cheers
Hello. Never made a thread before and was really hoping I wouldn't have to or would find an answer elsewhere.
Since that didn't work out, here's my problem:
Background: Evo 3d, virgin mobile, unlocked bootloader, s-off, hboot was at 1.50, and I don't remember what the radio was at. I was running CM11 and was quite happy until two days ago when I stopped receiving texts! No clue why, just stopped. Hangouts, etc etc. Called VM and they had no idea why that was happening either. Tried switching roms, reinstalling backups, etc etc. Clean wipes and all. Then I saw someone said they had to [for some reason] reinstall everything stock and then they had messaging back. So that's what I set out to do.
In Between: Used the RUU that I'm fairly certain came with my phone. Everything was good, it erased everything, and "updated system" and signatures. It was almost finished when BAM, popped up with error 152 Image Update Error; right at the very end. Quite disappointing. Tried it multiple times again with the same result. Not sure what to do.
Current: Only screen I can see (looks like shortened bootloader screen) says "***locked***" at the top, hboot 1.57.0000, radio 1.06.00.126, then says openADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0217eMMc-boot
Also tried flashing the unlock_code.bin, and while it took it, it changed nothing. One screen I did see very briefly but cannot replicate said that everything was there except system. Not really sure how to take that or what to do. Any and all help would be helpful. As is it sits on the HTC screen with exclamation points in each corner. When unplugged from usb it gives me that above screen. Removing battering and restarting to bootloader still gives the same screen.
Did you run ruu through windows or pg86img.zip?

You can try this
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d4baafpgchgg4ef/ruu-PG86IMG.zip
Put that on the root of your SD card and rename to pg86img.zip
Make sure its the only one there
Boot to boot loader and accept updates
It may reboot itself to bootloader, if it asks to accept again then accept
When its done reboot your phone
Rename or remove the file when done
Hope that helps

So I have my phone working now. I think it was the RUU.exe that I was using. I downloaded a different one from here http://androidruu.com/Shooter/ after much googling. That finally restored it to original VM stock rom etc. I couldn't use your method of placing the zip onto the root of my SD because despite it being there, it wouldn't go through the normal search for the file. I would remove the battery, put it back in, use the button key combo to try and open to bootloader, and it would go but it would be the page with the status and then it would instantly go back to the black screen with HTC logo.
Thank you for your help though!
Also I'm not sure how useful exactly this will be for anyone else, but if you find yourself ruu'd and needing better files...
The hboot ENG 1.04 I got from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817513
ALL other downloads of that hboot did not work AT ALL.
I got the updated radio from here: http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/648902-radios-hboot-firmware-all-downloads.html
The hboots on that site however are stock and most likely won't run the custom roms as well, if at all, as 1.04.

Hey, that's my thread. Just curious what you mean by the hboots aren't helpful?
If there is a problem I'm unaware of, I'd be happy to know what it is so I can get it squared away.

I must apologize! I seem to have mis stated that; they are helpful with regards to them being the stock hboots. However in my particular case those stock hboots weren't for me. I'll edit that here in a sec, but if I was going back to full stock I'd definitely use your stock VM hboot and it would be helpful in that case. Hope that makes sense, no disrespect meant!

Thanks for clarifying that! I see what you meant now.
No worries, I didn't take offense or think you were disrespectful; I just wanted to make sure the downloads were working properly!
And for the record, the stock hboots will work just fine with custom roms. Hboot 1.50 for example will be compatible with the same selection of roms as JuopunutBear 1.50.5050. The difference is that JuopunutBear is patched and will allow for extra fastboot commands and allow them to be run on a locked bootloader.
The eng 1.04 hboot allows for extra fastboot commands that the stock hboot cannot. But you can boot any rom out there on the stock hboots. I've used stock 1.50 forever on this device.
