re: Wireless N not being recognized - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

re: Wireless N not being recognized
Has anyone had this issue? I can't seem to find my wireless n network after flashing to ICS. I've tried many roms, but don't know what's the reason. If I flash back to HC I can see my wireless n network.

Is this the 5Ghz band you're referring to?
If so, it's not enabled in ICS for some reason.
There's a file that can be edited that will enable the band, but you need root to do so.
System/etc/wifi/
The file is nvram_net.txt
Change ccode from =GB to =ALL

I used ES File Explorer to get to the file and to edit it.
If File Manager is the same one I have (mine is File Manager HD) yes, I think. It can also get to the file
and it has as editor, but I haven't tried it yet.

Glad to see that solved it.

Would this be an issue to all N networks? (both 2.4 and 5ghz?) I have the WNR3500L which is single band 2.4 ghz only if I'm correct. Just want to know what I have ahead of me when I do the upgrade to ICS?

There's a better fix for this.
In /system/etc/wifi there are two files:
nvram_net.txt and nvram_net.txt.us
The installed one is for Great Britain, and the other one (.us) is for the United States.
Rename nvram_net.txt to nvram_net.txt.gb and rename nvram_net.txt.us to nvram_net.txt
This makes two changes. changes "ccode" to "ccode=US" and adds "regrev=5".

Well in my case I had the setting =US, and my wifi is on channel 12, 2.4ghz and was not discovered. After changing it to ALL it worked, maybe =GB would work too. I'm in Sweden and I guess channels are same throughout EU
This was for my GT 8.9 with Arlic's ICS rom. However my Xperia P which is on official ICS could not connect to my wifi either which is even more strange. This isn't rooted so I did not bother to check the setting. But I tested to change my router to ch 1 and the Xperia P now discovers the N network again.
BTW, what does the added setting "regrev=5" add to the mix?

I tried it on my GT 7510 (10.1/p4wifi) and it's able to see both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals with the "US" file in place. I don't know what the extra setting (regrev=5) does. Some kind of revision level?

I do not understand your question
What exactly is it you want to change, and why???
Maybe he means the device ID? most of the builds think our phone is nexus one or the desire maybe he wants to change that for whatever reason?
I change the build.prop inside /system to customize the information I want reflected in my build.
I use shu8i's (which uses zego's) as a base

Ad-hoc wifi connections on gtab 10.1 ics stock rom

Could you post the way it's supposed to do this? I'd like to learn how but i'm, as you can imagine, a newbie at this.
Update: i've found a temporary Workaround:
First of all notice that i needed the ad-hoc connection to use my tab in junction to my android phone when i'm on the move.
Said that I've found the way to share the phone connection via bluetooth: Obviously isn't fast as a proper wifi, but until someone (daveba ?) will patch the wpa_supplicant, this is the only solution.
On my phone i've downloaded from the play store Foxfi. There I have activated the bluetooth dun connection.
On tablet side i've downloaded from the play store pdanet tablet & configured to pair with my phone.
And ... TAADAA!!! i had back my connection on the move.
I repeat, it's not a proper solution, but until someone more coding skilled than me get the patch done, this will work.

You need to download the AOSP sources for ICS and set up a compile environment and then patch up the wpa_supplicant sources as per my previous post and then recompile and provide a CWM flashable zip.

Have you ever thought about writing an how-to guide related to this stuff?? i think could be very interesting. i think could be a sticky topic here in xda. A lot of people writing about wpa_supplicant but most of them posted only already patched files but never the entire process to do it.

I'll try to download it and extract the wpa supplicant. Maybe this time i'll be luckyer. And obviously, if this will work i'll share here.
Cross your fingers, please.
SAD UPDATE: I tried to use the wpa_supplicant e wpa_conf files on task650's ics rom but unfortunately the tablet has working wifi but doesn't recognize my wifi tethering from the phone. So for who as me don't want to use non stock rom (mostly for stability reason at the moment) can't have wifi thetering recognized.
I'm starting to suppose that on ics things are quite different from honeycomb on this topic. Maybe Someone whit good coding skill should try to help us.
And at the moment my workaround it's the only solution avaiable.
Thank you very much Chinasky71

You can still use your phone!
Nokia phones have dun connection via bluetooth, so pair your phone with your galaxy tab and start pdanet.
From there use the configure button, and select your phone after that is appered in your list.
At that point you'd be ready to go!
Let me know if it works.

I doubt you've tried EVERY ROM out there,
For example, my ROM has it as long as you don't go flashing random themes and files onto your phone.

L9 Wi-Fi directory files

Hi all
Can someone please upload the 'etc\wifi' directory files here?
I've installed Open Garden app from Store (to manage the thetering) and I've granted it root rights, then program tried to install some specific file and my Wifi didn't worked since then.
If I would put back the original files than issue would be solved.
Thx a lot,

Mediapad X1 build.prop values

Hi all,
Thanks to a forum member on my home forum, who found some information from the Russian 4PDA forum, I would like to post the findings here for English speaking users.
NOTE: THIS IS MEANT FOR 501L devices with B002 or B003 ROMS, as they do not have many features from the 501u and 503L devices
I currently have a 7D-501L from Malaysia (updated to Western Europe B003 ROM) and have successfully tested the following:
You may first need to rename the file "setimmutable.list" to something else otherwise build.prop changes may not be permanent.
/system/build.prop
On Gloves - mode
Append: ro.config.hw_glovemode_enabled = 1
On muting the shutter sound option in the camera
Append: ro.hwcamera.sound.muteable = true
This setting needs to be changed at /data/cust/prop/local.prop
When saving, the charset needs to be set to GBK otherwise you will brick your phone.
#ro.config.ShowNavigationBar=true <=add "#" to comment out the original line, then add the 2 lines below.
ro.config.hw_shownavisettings=true
ro.config.hw_navigationbar=true
Link to the post on my home forum:

You need to rename the file setimmutable.list to something else.
Then change the properties of build.prop and local.prop to -rwrwrwx- or 777 using some root-aware file explorer.
Make the changes with a text editor, remembering to save it in the same Encoding as the original.
Then revert the properties back to -rw-r-rx- or something, I can't recall, but you can see it from the file explorer. I use Solid Explorer which is awfully handy.

Yes you MUST be rooted to install Xposed.
I installed Dimensions Editor and Play Permissions. Both work nicely.
The navbar and app titlebards are much smaller now and I don't even need to hide the navbar much.
