The OaT Situation - TouchPad General

OK, I'm not sure why, I received no correspondence from any mods, but my previous post was deleted.
So I'm just posting this to figure out:
A) Why my topic was deleted.
B) What we can do to help users who might want to use the OaT rom.
C) Why OaT suddenly disappeared and took all his roms with him.
Again, I'm not trying to offend or break any rules, but there are tons of unanswered questions, and as a Touchpad owner, OaT's roms are by far the best for this device (that I've used). I've included a screenshot of the battery life I get with the 829 build.
Again, I'm not trying to get banned or deleted, but it seems unfair that some people don't get to use the OaT rom that was publicly available a few days ago for a lucky few (myself included), and now it's just gone.
Looking forward to hearing from a Mod or anybody about how to resolve the situation, and maybe help out our fellow Touchpad owners.

OaT: Thanks for the response, replied in detail in the other thread.

FWIW, I gave a lot more feedback for earlier (buggier) builds. Since 7.29 I've been kind of silent because I had ZERO problems (similar sentiment to what an earlier post said). So I haven't been reading the forums lately and missed out on 8.29. My loss, but a minor one since all three of my TP's are running like clockwork with 7.29.
To OaT, thank you immensely for your hard work. Wish I could have helped you out more than I did. Here's hoping we'll hear from you again...

Miui camera with ffc support

I'm trying to get the latest camera, v17 I think, onto my thunderbolt. I downloaded the Miui rom for the Nexus S since it is the only one I know of with FCC support. I then pulled the camera apk out of that rom. The apk was signed, installed on my phone, and had its set permissions set, however it still FCs. Does anybody have any idea why it is not working?
I've attached the apk in case anybody is interested.
Ok, really, this is a question, not a dev thread...
Maybe because it was made for the Nexus S, which isn't the Thunderbolt.

You know I was just searching for something similar to this. But you know, I just want to stop and say, fu$% you g00s3y, take your comment which was about as helpful as a limp **** at a porno shoot, and shove it firmly where the sun does not shine. I am sick to death of the attitude that you portray here ruining this website for people.

Sorry, you are right. I am just growing very tired of attitude here. When posting to correct others on what forum to post in, or be a smart ass becomes more important than actually helping, there is a problem

When people don't take the time to search or post in the appropriate places making threads unnecessarily long and flooding them to the point that others with appropriate questions for that thread don't get answers and many stop even attempting to skim, there is a problem
A place for everything and everything in its place.
I know this is off-topic of the OP and I'm not intending to fan any flames. I just don't think people that actually want to improve this place should be the ones getting *****ed at. Try pointing the criticizing finger at the ones that are too lazy to spend the 2sec search to find the answer or appropriate forum themselves.
And yes, I realize that by posting this in this thread, I'm somewhat acting in contradiction to what I've said. But, when in Rome, eh? It's on topic of the last few posts anyway.

Posts such as his simply make it impossible for those of us that do search, to find real answers. Which is exactly what happened, I searched, and found posts that looked to have answers, instead I find someone complaining about where the post is.
If you want to make this a better place, you educate, but still help, then when later people come looking, there is an answer too.
Everyone should have realized by now that some people just won't search. For whatever reason, be it lazyness or ignorance, its going to happen. Cursing and flaming isn't going to help the situation at all. I understand people get upset, but we need to understand that its going to happen.

So how did you get it working? I tried from the link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12164180&postcount=1 and it doesn't work. I flashed, then pulled the apk into /system/APP, then installed the APK (the method outlined in the thread) and it didn't work. I also just tried installing the APK from that zip independently, but it didn't work.
Also, FWIW, I searched Google and it took me here, so flaming about not searching doesn't really help those of us who actually searched.
Like info on netflix info you get everything but what your searching for.......search sucks........

I was looking for the MIUI with FFC as well as I SEARCHED I came across this thread which was no help. I found what I was looking for tho and thought Id post in case you guys were still looking for it. I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS. I just found it on the net. WORKS GREAT!!

Are you tired of the same questions? Vent here.....

There will be no fighting with anyone in this forum, its only to vent your anger here. I will start.
I try to help people by reading through the forum but everyday real problems are over shadowed by people asking what is the best way to root their thunderbolt....every day that shortly followed by how much they searched for this subject when if you simply search on Google Thunderbolt+root method you will find you answer, if you can't find Google, do a Bing search on it or askjoe.com
Second why are all these new guys over clocking to 1.9 and expect their phone to be stable? Don't they read the forum of the kernel they flashed? Or just rush to general or q&a and post freezing problems. People you will get very good support if you post in the kernel you use or Rom your kernel came with the developers keep their eyes on that thread.
When did thunderbolt general become Verizon support if you have a network drop, don't make a thread for each city it is down in, call Verizon don't think every issue has to do with a radio or your kernel or your Rom.

My personal favorites (not in any particular order) :
1. Lol/Lmao;
2. What is the best ROM; and
3. Just rooted what now?
Arrgh!
"It works great for me / works for me, thanks" (in reply to a new update of something) (use the "thanks" button ffs)
"How do I install this? (install directions mentioned in the OP)"
"This alpha/beta/testing software sure is buggy / why is feature x broken in this? (broken issue mentioned in the OP for said software) (followed by vague description/no description of what is broken without a logcat by user asking question)"
"What's the best ROM / Rooting Method?"
"Help! I installed a non-root user RUU on top of my rooted phone"
"When will we get x / what is the eta for x?" (x = gingerbread|ics|next phone|new rom|etc)
Asking a question already answered in the stickied common questions / noob guide in the Q/A forum.
Go look at the PRL thread in the Incredible General forum. I get reamed out and called every name in the book.... But I was the only one that produced an answer! I'm about to the point of letting these idiots twist in the wind. I'm tired of fools that can't find the answers that are basically fed to them. And if a mod has a problem with that frustration, oh well... Do the right thing and ban stupid, not me.
I like when someone throws an off topic question in a thread and others bite. Then if you are interested in the original topic you have to filter through all the garbage to see if any progress or good information was actually posted.

or asking about how to fix an issue that was asked just 2-3 pages back when it really shouldn't be asked in the topic thread at all (post it separately in q/a). This is why developers don't reply to their threads much. They just get to be a mess and they give up.

The thought "help those who help themselves" always comes to mind when I see those posts !
Ya my other favorite one is when they ask which rom is the best.
I feel like asking them, so if I tell you to jump off a bridge will you do it?
If not, they why would you take what I say as the best rom as the gospel?
Roms are such a subjective thing. Some people like some things some like others.
My first Android phone was a G1, so I was pretty used to the "stock" experience. Even when I rooted, I stuck pretty much with Cyanogen.
When I got the bolt and realized Cyanogen was not really "available", I got into BAMF and I gotta tell you, they did a pretty impressive job with sense.
Before I would have just laughed at someone if they said sense was the way to go, but I really kinda like it now. So I know that even my viewpoint has changed somewhat.
I don't understand why these people cannot just go out and make up their own mind about which rom they like by just flashing them and trying them out. If they don't like it, they just nandroid back to what you had before they flashed the new rom.
I wonder if they all look like lemmings? Hmmmm.
I get so tired of people running AOSP ROMs creating new topics and stating in just about every AOSP ROM thread that they can't get a lock on their GPS...
Drunk texted from my CM7 Bolt
[RANT]Agreed. Google is my best friend. If I don't know how to do something when I cook my Rom, Google. When I need to know something about linux, Google.
STOP ASKING WHAT THE BEST ROM! THERE ISN'T A BEST ROM!!

Yes, thank you for your concise, yet completely worthless contribution to a question being asked. Once I've managed to trudge through the million or so posts, I will form an opinion if said thread was even remotely useful.
While your extreme enthusiasm and talent in pointing out things that are obvious are appreciated, I would actually like to request information pertaining the stability and whether you have tried it. Since you have not managed answer either question with any one post, I suppose you have failed three things; to answer the two questions I've asked in the OP and at life.
To anyone else reading this, I'm merely berating a neanderthal with near catatonic grasp of the linguistic requirement of reading; please answer the OP question as best you can.
Lolwow, that actually made me laugh, seriously, totally talented phrasing there.
On the matter of the OP:
I haven't tried myself yet (I hope that doesn't rule me out as a potential "may reply guy"), but from what I have gathered so far it's flagged "experimental".
UI stuff mostly works, some other things (like making a call) sometimes work and then don't again.
Definitaly not "daily use" capable, but a very good impression of the work that is already done and to see that work is heading into the right direction.
They say they'll be "stable" around Jan./Feb., so being a coder myself I'd rather think of March / April (NOT meant badly, I just know the countless unforseen reasons a project gets delayed!).
And if you are not as lazy as some of the members here you should aleast read the Op or the first and last 10 pages of the thread you worthless dumbass.. You're so lazy you won't read atleast the OP or last pages to see how it is? Thanks for the honest answer. I was interested in CM9 mainly as a daily driver, since I only have one phone.
As for the Q1 timeline, I have heard from Cyanogen himself and from Samsung that their timeline is similar. I am, of course, near morbidly curious about hardware acceleration on the UI without a Samsung-based kernel.
Please excuse an old man while he brushes up on patience.

Here's my summary of the OP after I have read it:
1. Experimental.
2. Install using CWM, with addons.
3. No bug reports; dev not bothering anyway.
4. Logcat, or GTFO.
That should cover the basics.
Last ten pages summary:
1. Volume problem when headset connected.
2. Volume hack presented, although quite "dirty" as represented by the author.
3. Various other complaints/answers and going off-tangent.
I suppose there are other issues I might add, but the first two points seem to discuss this issue quite a lot. Also, the OP was updated to include said volume hack.
Of course, your answers were quite rage-induced, so I'd like to ask you to calm down and think about what you're saying. Even my twelve-year-old son does better than calling others "immature child" and using the f-word when he feels threatened. That is despite me allowing him unfettered access to Call of Duty multiplayer.

I did reply to you answer (1st one) in a proper way and not a sort of know it all read the op etc type.. Anyway, a new leak will be out this new year (from sammobile) and maybr devs can work on it to minimize the bugs so i'd suggest to wait for the next version..

this is not a good way to start
people may just never going to reply to you with this attitude.
anyway, to answer your questions:
1. i tried the second built, not the 3rd one (just downloaded)
2. it's almost usable, but still a lot of bugs here and there (volume when you connect the headphones, signal lost on some networks, default sms app crashing).
If you don't mind an "almost working but amazing" phone, then go ahead, else i would suggest you to wait another couple of builds at least.

I've read the CyanogenMod 9 thread, have proven that I've read it, and I believe it is impossible for any sane person to have read the entire thread. By the bye, I would also like to congratulate your abilities in stating the obvious when providing the link to the topic. I'm sure I couldn't have found it without your assistance. Great effort.

Obligatory TWSS here. Thanks for the laughter.
On a more serious note, I have suddenly realized that the current generation of internet users couldn't discern point blank sarcasm or is a masochist.
I would make a Nandroid backup and give it a go, I;m flitting between this and 2 other backups, and i found it to be quite stable, a few niggly bits here and there but overall it was usable.

[Q] Installed the KOA Ressurection JB rom and have a minor problem

Hello there,
I recently found the ROM to upgrade the Droid Razr XT912 to JB. Went through the process and it all worked out fine...however I have noticed a few things that I was hoping to get help with.
1.When trying to go into camera it shows up for a second then freezes and a popup says Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped.
2.When going into system settings it has Cyanogen mod infomation there but under OTA updates(Not sure if they are cyanogen mod updates or Verizons) it says Error fetching update info: Invalid ROM(STOCK0JB-cm_spyder) and device(cdma_spyder) combo!
Just trying to find out what I need to do to get the camera working, the other thing may just be as intended with this ROM.
It is the one located at this url here on the site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912596&nocache=1
From the thread where you downloaded:
What Doesn't Work?
Webtop
HDMI
FFC Video
Camera Flash
Bugs?
Normal CM10 bugs like the screen rotation shrinkage.
Volumes
Bluetooth
Maybe more, you tell me!

AND not all roms support OTA updates.
Hey, here is a good idea..... Go read the thread where you downloaded from. There might be an answer in there. And while you are at it, why not post your question in that thread?
EDIT: There are other people with the same problem in that thread. Not sure if there is a fix. READ IT. Oh, and I notice you cannot post since you only have two posts. Go help 8 people and then you can post your question in the thread if it isn't solved already.
I fixed the problem by downloading a third party camera app for ICS. I would have posted there if I could have, the problems I read about all related to just the flash on the camera not working...not the whole camera itself. I must have missed it in the 12 pages.
I apologize. Did a search for my problem and could not find anyone saying the keywords I was looking for. Thanks for the response as unhelpful as it was.

There is still time to go help 7 people and get your 10 posts. Then you won't have this problem in the future if your problem is not addressed in that thread.

Thanks for letting me know. My caffeine level is fine though. Thanks for your concern.
I was just pointing out that the OP should read the thread for his specific ROM. That would be the best place for info.
If he had read it (instead of searching it) he would see that there are a few other people that are having the same problem. There are also a few suggestions as to what might be causing the problem and a suggested fix.
That's all I'm saying brah!
And if he would have found a few minutes to make a few posts over the last 6 months that he has been a member here, he would have been able to post in the thread where he is most likely to get an answer from the other people running that ROM, including the DEV.
That's all I was saying!
But again, thanks for your concern about my caffeine levels.

AFAIK camera is broken in all new KitKat roms. If you need working cameras use Jelly Bean or ICS builds.

Before flashing, did you even bother to read through any of the dev or Q&A threads, or do you always just blindly install the most critical software for any device without thought or ramifications of the consequences? To put it bluntly, it shows a profound carelessness at best, or at worse, willful ignorance. Every dev thread here lists either in the first or second post a list of known bugs with their ROMs. ALL versions of KitKat regardless of the author have serious issues at the moment. Even the most casual of glances would have revealed this to you. To start a new thread over a known major issue is a redundant waste of time and bandwidth.
May I suggest that in the future, you at least take a minute or two, to read through and familiarize yourself with what you're undertaking before doing so, in order to prevent wasting everyone else's time with your complaining about a very well known issue.
Edit: Sorry I came on so strong. Listen, everyone was a newbie once, but it's not an excuse for acting like one. You may not have many posts, but you've been here for awhile. There's a wealth of info on the posts pinned to the top of the forums, including board etiquette. If you discover what you think is a bug or if you have an issue, you should post in the Q&A thread for that ROM. But before posting there, you should read through both the Q&A and dev thread to see if it's already known from being previously reported. This keeps clutter off the board and focuses problem solving to the proper channels.

FYI Spanky, I'm no kid, I'm a 51yo man, a truck driver (Teamsters Local 769), who could drop you in a heartbeat. If I (someone with no formal IT training and a HS diploma from 30 years ago) can figure this out in my off-time, between dealing with work, and my family, what's your excuse? All you had to do was look at my profile before speaking out of the wrong orifice, and you'd know this.
It appears you're even less capable than I gave you credit for in my previous post, since you show a proclivity for being unable to read or do research, and have wedged your foot so far into you mouth that it's impossible to extricate. I've forgotten more than you've ever learned (obviously not a high bar to leap over). Unlike yourself, I contribute here towards providing useful info and help to others who're willing to help themselves. Hence, my high ratio of thanks to posts in a short time here. You, on the other hand, have never provided one bit of useful information in your much longer time on the board (which is easily verified by searching your previous posts).
I don't pretend to be smarter than you, I know I am! That's because I have enough common sense to know my abilities and limitations, something you obviously lack. You seem to have selected an apropos handle, "Insectman." So by all means, obliviously continue along in your vacuous ways, and slither back into the damp crevice you were hiding in. Have a nice day!!!!

You're also very rude.
You wasted more time insulting the guy than you did helping him. While I do support use of the search function sometimes it is not so clear cut for people. The first response you typed out was extremely unwarranted IMHO. This one, not much better. You seem to have quite the ego.

I'm sorry, he's rude? LOL Bruh, look at his thanks meter. He's HELPING people. He knows his stuff, so he deserves to have an ego. ESPECIALLY since he built his own ROM.
But I guess you're too fat headed yourself to be humble and accept the fact that this thread could have been avoided if the OP had just read the changelog. Let's face it, if by some mishap the OP had bricked his device he'd be crying for help (just like I did) and I know for a fact that I didn't read anything before (cause I was stupid, and I can acknowledge the fact that I used to be ignorant and now I take the time to read through the forums properly before I post unnecessarily, and Ody here has helped me a great deal.)
So before you go calling people rude and judge them prematurely, take a minute to really think about what you want to post.
PS. he did apologize, so I see no need for you to be bashing him still. I, on the other hand, don't give a damn.
I'm bored, so I went through the Q&A
Remind me not to do this again.
@Darin_Ram, thanks for your strong defense. I do greatly appreciate it, however, the truth of the matter is that @sam_conrad is correct. I was rude to the OP. No matter how much good I do in assisting others here it doesn't mitigate the matter, because two wrongs don't make a right. I lost my cool when I read the comments he directed towards me and lashed out in an unbecoming manner. For this there is no excuse. If my kids had behaved in such a way I would have had a conniption, so I should expect no less from myself.
Thanks again for your heartfelt comments.

Maybe what you are offering is that if he can't recover his original system from his nandroid backup, he can download and flash a stock ROM, such as this GingerBread (courtesy ravike14 signature):

This is a much more noble reply. While you're extremely helpful to the community, and I never disagreed that you are, it's no excuse to be an ass. There is never a "deserving right" to be rude in any case. In my world, at least, the people treat each other with respect or they're gone. I know that I don't have time to deal with people that don't want to move forward and get along. Regardless of how stupid some peers might seem, or how smart one may believe he/she is, I think showing some humility and always staying grounded goes a long way.
I often tell people that some of the world's greatest minds are the dumbest of us all - some of your behavior represented why. When we're in an advantaged position of knowledge, we should encourage others to learn from us, not the other way around.
@Darin_Ram - no need to throw personal jabs at me, trying to tell me I'm full of myself (or "fat headed"), please and thank you. I don't claim to be a genius in any regard, and especially not the mobile space. I just have found Ody on a few too many accounts to be unnecessarily rude... My own focus is on computer networking and desktop PCs. :good: I usually reside at XtremeSystems.org and HWBOT.org due to my hobby of extreme LN2 overclocking.
