Hi,
I think of buying a xperia s now, but before I want to know, if it is sure, that it will get aosp support. I can decide - galaxy nexus or xperia s, but xs is atm a better offer (ca 220€ and it's new) (galaxy nexus for ca 280€).
Will it really get aosp? And I have a sk17i now and for custom rom/kernel I had to unlock bootloader --> voids warranty. So have you got an idea, if I will have to unlock bootloader, if I wanna get the aosp rom? I don't think so, cause sony and google are going to work together, but don't know exactly!
Thanks in advance
Mihahn
Edit: Looks like sony dropped the AOSP support, lucky I didn't buy an xperia s
We have a ready device tree for ICS, so you can build pretty much everything source based, including AOSP.

Okay, but as far as I know, xperia s should get official aosp support by google. It should be like a nexus (Just look here). So the question is, if anybody knows, if it's sure it'll be suported by google?

That is nothing more than an experiment. The Xperia S will still get updates from Sony, not Google.
Pretty sure
http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...bqs-vanilla-android-xperia-s-project-download
So it'd be better to buy a Galaxy nexus if I want to have Updates at First, cause for this vanilla Rom I will have to unlock Bootloader, Flash the Kernel and after that install the Rom. Not that Sony will give us the choice, if we wanna have the Sony or the vanilla rom?

Long story short - you will get the new versions (vanilla style) faster with the nexus. As k900 said, this is an experiment. We all hope that some great developments will come out of it, but it isn't for sure and is just the beginning.

Depending on where in the world you are and where you buy your Nexus you might have to flash the latest update yourself anyways. Yakjuxw phones still haven't gotten Jelly Bean and it took 4 months for them to be updated from, I think it was, 4.0.2 to 4.0.4.
Once the AOSP Xperia S gets up and running it's possible, though I wouldn't count on it, that it could get its updates quicker than any Samsung controlled variant of the Nexus.

Hi everybody,
At the 3rd of September, Sony releases the binaries for xperia s to support JBQ's Xperia S experiment.
So I was really happy about that, coz I thought that jelly bean is near.
I thought that now, that when they have the binaries and drivers, the only thing to do for Google is to implement these drivers into android source code, because vanilla Android doesn't need so much configuration, etc.
So my question how long you think it takes that we have vanilla on our xperia s?

I hope very soon, i think FXP has done a good work yet on porting the cyanogen 10 to our device, so maybe they can start from this point to develop it... but i don't have seen a lot of rom and kernel for our phone like others Xperia serie's phones... maybe it's due only to the youthness of NXT line..

I don't know when the official release will be, but CM 10 will release its new M1 versions. In the moment we have a stable alpha-version and that's a big step too. But my opinion is that Sony is just inconfident about the official JB -.-

It is just an experiment to see how hard is to implement another device on the AOSP project. Not that updates will come from Google.

I hope is not just an experiment because have JB in ours Xperia S will be very performant, in my opinion. Sony is usually close to developers.
It may be also a test: rumors talks about a Sony nexus.. it will be a big step..:victory:
Actually, AOSP development seems very slow, at least from what I've been seeing on the git. Don't expect the sony bins to speed that project up
That's what I'm scared about because when android 5.0 comes soon how long would that take to reach the xperia s (nexus) becomes the update..

too difficult too see android 4.4 for our device.. there are 4.2 and 4.3 before kitkat and they are still not here as an android version rom..
but not sure
i believe the most active developer of most of the kernel and rom is no longer that active. while it is good to see kitkat on our mini phone i highly doubt it would even be possible. if its possible you might be looking at a very slow phone due technical constraints of using the updated os
But we can use jellybean.
I know kitkat is better than jellybean

don't think so... the problem is always drivers, and the low specs... let's face it... we love this little device, but is too old.
Hey Guys, Lets Ask nAa To Develop MiniCM Kitkat(4.4) For Our Tiny E10i and U20i...
It would be cool since they say KitKat use less memory, but I guess drivers are hard to find for this tiny device.
Kitkat actually using a RAM compression, like KSM, compcache (a.k.a zRAM), JIT and this is already in CM7 era, before Kitkat
For more info:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...rt-to-devices-with-as-little-as-512mb-of-ram/
Also, this is need a big and fast cpu cycle, so IF your device can handle @ 1Ghz it's not even enough, because ARMv6 (65nm) vs latest ARMv7 (45nm, 28nm on A-15)
And Google already leaving ARMv6 for Android support and for developing Kitkat, we need to hack many System in Android to working in our chipset
I'm happy, because we can run 4.1.2 on X10 Mini
But, for Kitkat, I think we must buy a new device
=)
Hello everybody,
I just open this thread to discuss about Android 4.4 KitKat for our lovely Novathor Devices
So here's my opinion:
I still have hope that Sony will update our Novathor Devices. Google announced that KitKat is fitting on 512MB devices well so it's not impossible Some people here lost theri hope on official updates from Sony but not me!
So what's your opinion about it?

Google itself won't update their Galaxy Nexus (http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/31/5051958/google-galaxy-nexus-will-not-be-upgraded-android-4-4-kit-kat) and its even more capable of running kitkat for it has 1Gb of ram...http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus_i9250-4219.php
i will just wait for the wonderful works of the awesome developers here in xda
I would like an official update by Sony. It should cover things like floating touch and would bring my dead ICS XPeria Sola back to life. I'm not an optimist, let's hope I'm wrong.

Then you are most probably wrong. Stop hoping. Xperia U, Go, P and Sola will not get anymore updates:
-Novathor is dead, ST-Ericsson already closed its doors.
-Sony will rather focus it's resources on more expensive phones like Xperia S, T,Z and Z1 rather than low-mid range phones like Xperia U or Go.

Yes, dont hope to get the official update from Sony. You will be disappointed. Also our devs don't have necessary drivers for our hardware, so it is difficult to make a fully working 4.4 Rom. Hope our devs here will make our devices run on 4.4 with only few acceptable issues.

If Sony didn't even updated their last year's flagship models, why would they update midrange phones? Even Google themselves won't update the Galaxy Nexus, even though it's more than capable to run Kit Kat.

A stock KitKat? Maybe, if someday Sony is concerned about the 2012 Xperia users, can you imagine? Yeah, me neither.
As it said, there's no official JB for Sola, KitKat, well I really can't see a possibility if it has the update.
I've seen somewhere that only the Z model will have the 4.4 update.
Gotta buy a Z phone or install CM11 which it's not stable at all.

Does google upgrade it's 2012 models to KitKat?
You must realise that software development never look back, and even it can work on those devices it will be too heavy for them to handle.
I could run Windows XP on my Pentium, 4 with half GB of RAM, is that possible with windows 7?

Yes, it's possible. With Windows 7 Starter.
2012 models can handle KitKat with no problem, but Sony it's like any other companies, they stop supporting phones to make people buy the last model, Xperia Z today. But, f*** no, we are xda, our phones can last for many years.

I have had a look at porting MIUI to the Ultra but I cant find a suitable base so far. I'll see if I can find a stable build of cm 10.1 but I wouldn't hold my breath - it needs a 4.2 base and the ones I've tried have thrown hundreds of patching errors...
With the lack of development for this device I would say no.

There's no point in developing a ROM that one or two people will use. Why spend any energy on it? It's fine if the dev ports it for himself and then decides to release it, but don't expect any MIUI release soon.

Are they still using 4.2 as base? I was under the impression that V5 should be at least 4.3 and you could use CM10 Togari proprietary files to build.
