After officially upgrading to ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ..
After officially upgrading to ICS via Samsung Kies , i would like to ask if a wipe data / factory reset is a must for stability ? :good::good:
Also
Anyway to let the RAM back to 0.91GB instead of 687 MB ?
Thanks

after Android upgrade, it is always recommended to perform factory reset, to ensure stability, and minimize problems.
Swyped from my Galaxy SII

i wld say its always wise to do full wipe after big upgrade. however, yeah why not if u dont have problems..dont touch it.
bout RAM.. your RAM dident go anywhere, its taken/reserved by ICS itself. ICS menages RAM differently then GB,
and this RAM is used to make your phone smoother and more responsive
cheers

Thanks for replies , but i feel that battery drains so fast , i was sleeping about 6 hours and it was 52% when i got awake it reached 43% and before i slept i closed everything and cleared ram , so is that normal or i should do a hard reset ?

Maybe its the best fir you to reset then, although we all know sgs2 battery is...well..unpredictable?

Can you check if your phone goes into deep sleep mode? Maybe there's some app running in background not allowing it.
However, after flashing a new ROM/upgrading android, cache/dalvik cache wipe couldn't give you anything but benefits and if you can also clear /data, it would be better.

Thanks All i have made wipe data and now everything is working perfectly :good::good: Sorry for any disturbance

[Q] Battery issue - ICS Omega v5.1 ROM

Hi, i've encountered some issue with battery since I installed this ROM.
I had some freeze and when I rebooted the phone the battery level dropped down of 20-30%...Also during the charge the behaviour was not "normal".. I can post some screenshot to made my explaination "visible".
The first time I had this problem, I reflashed the rom after a full wipe (data and cache) and after i hadn't performed the backup but installed the apps one by one from the store..that not solved the problem. I uninstalled set CPU, I also changed the battery...same freeze and same problem...Any advice?
Thank you!
Try another rom .

Go back to GB until ICS gets rid of bugs.

I`m using same rom but never had issue with battery. I suggest you to use phone until battery will be 0%, use until phone will shut down itself. Leave it off and charge battery for 7 hours. Turn it on and find on market battery calibration, calibrate the battery. Also you can try to change kernel. Good luck
Thank you all. I'll try to calibrate the battery (i think that it is clear that is not a battery problem) before changing kernel and then ROM.

Before flashing anything, flash first this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738

Of course...asap i will try and i let you know.
Thank you.
strange that because im getting better battery life than i did from stock gb although i have frozen all samsung apps through titanium im amazed really. It probably takes a couple of charges to sort the battery on a new rom.
Well...I've performed the cleaning of the kernel..and installed a new kernel. No matter which kernel: the battery behaviour is the same. 30 minutes ago screenshot.
I'm going mad
Have you tried another battery, doing full wipes or reflashing rom

I tried with another battery.
I did a full wipe.
I refleshed the rom after the full wipe.
The only thing to do is change the rom.
For the moment I unistalled some apps (Set CPU was already uninstalled..now I deleted Rom Toolbox)

I agree. I myself am using Omega Ice Cream Sandwich 10.4 still
At the moment the problem is gone...propably it was due to the apps setCPU and Rom Toolbox..both set the CPU.
I continue to check the behaviour..the battery life is about 14 hours...maybe it is possible to set the phone to do better..more battery life...

Yes.
I normally do a wipe & completely clean install every 6-8 weeks. It's a couple of hours (in my case) well spent.

but remember please save your pics and video stuff on micro sdcard or somewhere else. as this will wipe the internal sdcard.

You could also try downloading a cache cleaner, which at least gives me a temporary performance boost. And another great option would be running supercharger script, it gives a really nice boost and is pretty simple to apply

[Q] Battery life suddenly poor

Hi,
My s2 has recently started to have very poor battery life. I am on stock JB firmware. I've never rooted this phone, and don't plan to until the phone is out of warranty, which is still about 6 months away.
The phone was pretty full of apps, so I decided to do a factory reset: settings> backup and reset> factory data reset> format USB storage ticked.
This fixed a problem that I was also having with my WiFi connection being slow, but it doesn't seem to have fixed the battery life problem. The phone does not last the day, even with very little use whereas before it could go at least 2 days before the battery went flat.
Is it possible that something has not been wiped during the process and is still causing a problem? Does the 'format USB storage' option wipe the internal SD card?
In the battery menu the biggest drain in 'android OS' with around 50%. This suggests to me there is still something wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Maybe you need new battery..
Check the apps which gives regular wakelocks..
Download wakelock detector and see who is the culprit

maybe you need to wipe dalvik cache and recalibrate battery maybe some times it's a bit a galaxy s2 bug
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18600161
Thanks for the replies,
I don't think its the battery that is the problem, as I would expect a more gradual failure than what I have experienced.
I'll try the wakelock detector, that sounds like a useful tool.
Battery cal and dalvik cache wipe may also help. Is there a way of wiping the dalvik cache without CWM recovery? As I said in the first post, I dont want to root the phone
I think stock android recovery has a option to wipe cache...
Stock android recovery does have a cache wipe option. Does this wipe the dalvik cache too?

So u have good battery life on ics??
Thanks for all your replies on this matter guys. I finally sorted the problem. It was the USB charging port. It was dirty. I cleaned it out with some contact cleaner and battery life is all back to normal. Unfortunately my Wi-Fi problem is back, so I'm starting a new thread about that if any of you knowledgeable guys fancy helping me out!

[Q] Downgrade 4.3 UGMJ9 > 4.1.2 EMG4?

I have done searching and reading but I just want to double check before I break something. Is it safe to flash EMG4 over the new 4.3 update without loosing IMEI? they both use the new format of reading the efs folder right? so it should be OK? And if it all goes wrong I can restore EMG4 efs backup or go back to 4.3 to restore IMEI?
well, from what i've read, it looks that it is the good solution.
i might try it later (when back from work )
if someone can confirm before i'd be grateful too.
I wanna know as well
Just do it, both EFS are compatible. Just your internal card won't bi at same mounting point (now is in /0 folder).

You got it right, no problem ahead :good:
i did this went from BTU 4.3 to BTU MG4 and got a boot loop, only way to get back is to clear user data and cache wipe etc in recovery mode before you flash MG4.
I thought so but it is best to check first instead of just doing stuff and then trying to fix it after. To be fair 4.3 isn't working out too bad for me now. I tried to get away with just clearing cache but it was horrible. I got 8hrs battery life with light use:silly: and LAGS all over the place. So I drained the battery and left it out for 40 min, then fully charged while off then switched on and factory reset. I got 20hrs light/moderate use with WIFI always on after that. I will see how it goes but second battery cycle is looking OK so far......

I have had that problem a few times in the past and solved it by doing a mega wipe and then reinstalling rom take a look at this thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-mega-wipesuper-wipefactory-t1832326 << (i am not talking about a normal factory reset and wipe it must be a mega wipe ) remember backup everything you need this will totally wipe your phone.
thank you im testing it right now hope it works....
