Sound loudness between ROMS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I know that the GS2 has the EU sound cap on it. And I know how to get to the service menu but that does t always work in CM10. My question is why is there no set sound level between ROMs? To see what I'm talking about, install Chameleon ROM and listen to audio using headset. Then try a CM ROM and you'll notice a huge loss of loudness.
Thoughts?

CM10 presently has a known volume bug.
You can use extweaks (with Siyah, dream or Dorimanx kernel) to boost three headset volume.
Or
download voodoo louder or similar apps to achieve that.
Swyped from my Galaxy SII

I do that but still not as loud as Chameleon ROM. Thanks for the info, Emma do some more digging around to see what happening.

Music + Notification = Quite music.

Basically if I'm listening to music with headphone and I get a notification the music volume doesn't go to its original level, I have to press the audio down button for it to go back to what it was.
I'm using a CM9 Nightly (07-05-2012) with Siyah kernel 3.2RC1 also happened on precisois versions of CM9 and on stock kernel.
Anyone else with this issue? Is it ROM related? It cant be a modem issue? Suggestions much appreciated.

Yup it's rom related. It is known bug for CM9 and AOKP ROM.
ROM related, posted billions of times. Use PowerAMP as a temporary fix.

Why does poweamp fix it? Cyanogen had a similar issue before where the the app didn't take back audio control or something. Isn't this just the same idea?

Music enhancer for aokp jellybean

I'm looking for something to improve the audio performance of phone running aokp. I searched and found lots of options including awesome, beats and Sony mods but nothing specific to my device. What is everyone's favorite because I know this Yamaha chip can do better than what it is doing now.

Those should still work.
Bleh
Yeah I mean why not just install them and see if they work? Worst case scenario you break something and have to use your nandroid backup.
search would yield many answers.... vodoo louder is what i use. if you're on siyah kernel, extweaks too.
Ok I will give those a try. I enjoyed using ex tweaks with shostock but it doesn't seem to have the same effect on aokp. On aokp the bass response seems much worse on aokp compared to shostock when playing the same song over the same stereo leading me too look for something else. I will also give voodoo louder a try as I had forgotten about that one. Thanks for the advice guys.

Latest aokp should have DSP manager.

Mr Robinson Aroma has a proper awesome beats.
I'm using it right now.
And use Siyha(Aroma also have it) kernel to increase the output. You can found this option on ExTweaks.

Personally I use Poweramp. The EQ settings are the best IMO. Beats audio mods are crap bro. It is a "V" shaped equalizer, nothing more. If you like bass, go beats. I suggest getting the beats audio installer (if you want beats audio) from the Play Store because it gives you the "b" icon. To change volume levels you also can use Extweaks for Ktoons Siyah kernel to boost or lower the audio levels to your liking. IMO the Yamaha chip needs major EQ to get it to sound decent. I use the rock preset in power amp

Task has said that DSP is a CM feature and will not be in AOKP.

pleaseeee help me quick i need my device for hearing music!
Max volume on S2 is way too low, and the easiest solution for me was to use Voodoo Louder from Play market, but it's not a free app (you install a free app that will test compatibility and then you have to buy a license file to use it, and your phone has to be rooted).
Dorimanx kernel had the loudest sound

It wasnt always like that, and besides, why is there no difference AT ALL between the max volume and 7 levels below that?

Does it work with slim 3.1.0
It's a known bug in headset, you'll reach max volume at halfway.
Dorimanx 7.4.2 should be good for you and has headphone power and separate gain adjustment.
You won't really get any more out of the stock speaker though it's not great.

I had the same problem with Ressurection Remix 3.1.2 with CM10 kernel, and volume was really low... I'm on the leaked JB now (NeatRom Lite 4.0) and volume change all the way to max, but still a bit too low, and Voodoo Louder fixed max volume both in RR and NeatRom.
I would have tried the Dorimanx kernel if I knew it fixed the volume...
im using ExTweaks or STweaks for sounds boost

hi
the first versions of mxplayer had a possibility to increase the sound above the predefined highest level, which it was effective in some musics and videos, but there were also media files of which the loudness didn't improved.

Cyanogenmod is really awesome, just keep in mind that it has issues for the i9300, specially in the latest nightlys, as for me I love CM but I can't stand the audio issues with headphones, losing sound when stopping the internal mic (eg. music + calls, audio recording, video recording = no go), graphics glitches in long hovering lists, and the latest that for some reason when using headphones with build-in mic make the phone record the internal sound at the same time as the mic, eg. music + video recording = no go. As the usual ones, no WiFi tether, poor camera performance, etc. And also note that all of this issues are due to samsung not being completely open with his sources, thus the open community has to see how to compensate those parts...
So at the end, if you love android, you'll love CyanogenMod, it just needs to be ironed from some of the most infamous issues.:fingers-crossed:
don't decide until you experience it. good luck

The speaker can't take the load, hence distortion. Lower the load by decreasing yhe volume. You possibly can lower just the bass but this isn't how the music was intended to be heard do it raises questions about the point

hmm. the "Enable Bass" is turned off the speaker still distorts on my cm rom. when I use touchwiz rom/stockbased custom roms, even though I max out the volume the speaker, the sound doesn't distorts. hmm I think I should go back to the stockbased custom rom.
There's a graphic eq there too. To fine tune specific frequencies.

Stock has the default_gain file that stops speaker overload .

Lots of people have reported poor sound quality on aosp Roms, try another kernel possibly and have a real good play around with sound tweaks if you can be bothered, or return to stock and enjoy
