yeah. i think its time for companies to focus on the battery and less on the power. we already have quad cores and LTE. lets start making batteries that will last longer then 4 hours.
That's a tad over 440ppi (ours is 340)... I can't see the pixels on my Rez, this is wayy overkill. Should be something more reasonable like 1440x900.

Actually, its the CPU thats using all the battery. Wlmeng did a test where he had a custom kernel and turned the CPU clock all the way down to 364mhz and he got over 9 hours screen on time.

yeah but an slcd at 720 uses a lot more then one at 480 so if 480 last 14 hours and a 720 last 9 then a 1080 will last 4 hours and thats at craw speeds.

Are you sure it uses a lot more? I'd imagine the backlight uses the vast majority of the energy, and in an LCD screen that uses the same power no matter how many pixels are in front of it.

this is all speculation. im no way an expert. but from what i have used my inc would last 24 hours with 12+ on the screen alone.
and i know im not factoring the 4g LTE radio and how much of a hog that is. Just thinking out loud, if anyone wants to correct me feel free. :good:
I want it.
My next phone will be a nexus purchased directly from Google. If I can't get good data from the other cell companies then I'll use my rezound as a Verizon jetpack.
I wonder if this new HTC phone Will be a nexus?
Or just keep the Rezound as phone to tether to Nexus 7. Keep your unlimited data and its only $250 for upgraded tablet. Small enough to carry around and will get at least next 2 or 3 operating systems from google. I mean quad core phone really.....grab a tablet that already has quad and a killer screen and just tether to enjoy long battery and 4G speeds.

There is definitely some logic there. I want the nexus device to be a phone, with the jetpack device being optional and rarely touched.
I'd like my main device to always have the latest android os and also function as a phone. So, with a nexus phone I'd use tmobile low cost plans. I'm pretty sure voice. & text will be good, but if data isn't good then I'd jetpack with Verizon. It may require carrying two devices if I'll be away from wifi a long time, and may cost more but I am sick of Verizon games delaying upgrades.
If the only thing going for Verizon is their network, then a small light jetpack will suffice to use their network.
Now back to the subject of this thread, today I was in a store and got to handle a Samsung galaxy note. It is large for a phone, but is amazingly thin. It fits in one hand, but might not fit in your pocket. I think it will fit in a suit jacket, and will fit in cargo pant pockets. Certainly will fit in a woman's purse. But, I have doughts whether it will fit in a typical shirt pocket. I don't imagine it being clipped to the waist belt.
I see the challenges of carrying it around, and this depends on how one is dressed.

How do you get 12 hours on your DInc? Underclock? I undervolt and have PureMotives mod on mine and can get maybe 6 hours of continuous usage
Also, they have LTE integrated into the SoC now so 4G on newer devices doesn't use as much battery as on the Rezound

Title says it all. What do you guys think?
I love my Tbolt, and I love that I got it at a time where I am grandfathered into unlimited data, which I would not have been had I waited for the Bionic.
And what feature are you waiting to get from Bionic that TBolt can't already do?
I bet the Bionic will be more of a pain in the ass to root...will prob have an even more locked down bootloader
Having owned the Atrix... the QHD display is really a deal breaker for me. It was really washed out, couldnt draw the color yellow at all, and was VERY pixelated. Not to mention its an even bigger screen than the Atrix, so it will be worse.
Not a chance id buy it.

I was thinking of waiting, but went for the Thunderbolt. I usually wait a few months before getting a newly released phone, but wanted to make sure I got unlimited data on 4G. Other than the network being a little fickle on 4G, I have no complaints. Development for this phone is moving pretty quickly!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have got to be kidding me. that thing is dual core. what in god's name makes anybody believe its battery life will be better? if you know engineering and hardware, you will know that unless motorola has unearthed the elixir of battery life, its simply not physically possible. maybe thats why their battery size is bigger. and by the way, good luck trying to run anything except what verizon and motorola want you to run on that with locked and encrypted bootloaders - keep dreaming about CM7 and MIUI.... finally i had an x for a day - nice hardware but horrrrrrrrendous UI compared to sense. no thanks, its htc for me - tried true and tested
For one i think the dual core is wat is makeing me wait. Anyone think its worth it? Also i think the stock rom on it looks amazing. Just juice defender and im set.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
more cores just mean running more processes at "full" speed at the same time. I don't know about you but I rarely render 3d graphics and run matlab on my phone.
multi core cell phones are just a selling point in my opinion.
My opinion... HTC > Moto. I like HTC's hardware designs better. Love the look and feel of HTC devices.
I also hate Moto for locking down bootloaders like crazy, but it looks like HTC may be joining these ranks soon as well. I cannot deny that Moto has some nice specs on their devices... but the Thunderbolt is no slouch.
My TB gets great battery life running stock. It will be even better with root, custom kernel, and custom ROMs. You really cannot go wrong. The development for this device is awesome.
Since my introduction in the Android world Ive had nothing but HTC devices. I don't care for hard buttons so most of the Motorola devices are out for me. Plus, with HTC I can root and run aosp toms as well as Sense. Win win.

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Yup, the brightness did it for me as well.
unless you are trying to do linear programming on your phone, i see no point in a dual core phone. i do believe all tablets should be dual or quad core though because they replace PCs - your phone is meant to be held next to your ear and do some simple things like calendar, email etc, do video chat and so on. this is a communication device primarily - screen real estate is too small to be of much use beyond that. also consider motorola's pathetic laptop dock - does anybody think they want that? there is nothing you can do on that. convergence my rear end.
I don't have any experience with Motorola because I am a flash junkie and I don't want to be stuck with a locked bootloader and Motoblur overlay. My first Android was an HTC G1 and my only experience venturing away from HTC was the Samsung Vibrant, and although I learned a lot about flashing, after six months of not having an AOSP rom because Samsung would not release source, I gave up and got another HTC device. I'll stick with HTC, thanks.

Some background on this video...
How these guys in Vietnam manage to do it is beyond me. Tinhte.vn has done it yet again. They have managed to get hold of the Galaxy S3 and did a short video of it, in HD and posted it on Youtube where it went viral before it was pulled down.
Since then, a number of reposts have been made by other parties which makes taking the video down more difficult if not impossible. Tinhte published the first unboxing of the iPad 3 (or new ipad), it was also the first website to come up with the white iPhone 4 with 64GB.
The video shows a phone that appears to be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with a similar system memory capacity, display size and resolution and OS. The onboard storage stands at 16GB, there's a quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, NFC, an eight megapixel camera and a 2050mAh battery.
This matches some sources which said that the Galaxy S3 would be an incremental improvement over the Galaxy S2 rather than a radical change.
The new phone appears to have dropped the slight bulge at the back and opted for a flat smartphone, certainly as a result of the case brought again Samsung by Apple over claims that the S2 was the thinnest phone in the world.
Read more: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/04/20/video-samsung-galaxy-s3-finally-emerges/#ixzz1sbXXXwCj
Meh. The video doesn't really reveal anything we didn't already expect. Plus, the phone is disguised in a generic case, so we can't see what the real design is going to look like.
The 2050mah battery is an improvement, but not what we need. We need something similar to the 3300mah battery in the Razr Maxx. Especially if it's not removable.
At this point, the only thing that will make me interested in buying this phone is if it ends up being bezel-less, and that is looking unlikely.
Why is this here?
And if those specs are indeed the real specs, Im glad Im jumping to the One X. The AT&T version will probably put in a Snapdragon processor for LTE (because every new smartphone has to have LTE now) and it wont have NFC due to AT&T pouring money into Isis. Incremental update indeed.

Anyone put any thought into the blue and white puddles. Could it be a liquid metal type screen.....or the flexible screen. Just a thought i had for the hell of it.
Edit:
After looking around i see that Apple has an "exclusive commercial license to it"
Probably old news...so don't tase me bros....
Stay thirsty my friends
I say in a year and a half our phones will have 2 to 2.5x the power and capabilities we currently have - but I'm willing to bet batteries won't improve for 3ish years.
These things will be able to replace laptops and desktops through docks or projectors and better use of connected peripherals like virtual keyboards and wireless mice.
I'm betting 3.6-5ghz processors, 100-200gb space, faster/instant networking, full mobile gpu's and hacking will be more prevalent maybe even problematic to society.
Ah computers.

What, exactly, does this have to do with the Galaxy S II?
The two phones I would be envious of right now is the HTC One X and Galaxy S3.
I recently held the One X demo/fake unit in my hand and it was nice. I liked how thin the bezel was all around. It was almost all screen. But it doesn't have a removable battery and I doubt with my heavy usage habits it would last me all day.
With the Galaxy S3, it has a 2100mAh battery which is impressive, but a comparison showed that it is similar in size to the Galaxy Nexus, which was too wide for my hands.
The Rezound still has a very nice screen, and a fast dual core that will still be fast enough for a while. Now that I have the extended battery, my phone easily lasts all day even with my heavy use.
So I'm not itching to get a new phone yet. I wonder what the next wave of phones will be like. Then I'll have phone envy.

Not me. If I were buying a phone today (and it were available on Verizon), I'd take the One X over the Rezound... but, thats only because it IS a better phone... To say that I'm envious of it though would be a lie, because the fact is that I am still extremely happy with the Rezound and feel that it hasn't even the chance to show us its full potential yet.

Man, I never knew how nice it is to have an extended battery. Just not having to worry about battery life is a HUGE plus. Even having a thicker phone is worth it. It makes the Rezound look awkward, but it actually feels good to hold.
Between the One X and S3, I think the One X looks better. But if I were to choose one to buy, I would get the S3 just for the bigger battery. Also, the S3 would probably be more root and S-Off friendly.
From the various article I've read, Verizon will not get the One X, but the S3 seems probable.
P.S. How do you go through 2 extended batteries in a day? I thought I was a heavy user with all my game playing and web surfing. I can still make it through the day with just one extended battery.
The only thing Im jealous about that the galaxy has is aosp. As it is getting harder to get aosp working on HTC phones I may consider Samsung for next phone. I love htc I just home the rezound will get it someday

I bought this phone for thinking for using 2 years, but surprisingly nobody really cares about this phone. Obviously, it's not as hot or great as galaxy s3. I'm not sure if I made the right choice. Are you all thinking keeping it?

The 4" screen was a huge selling point for me. I want a smaller phone that actually fits in my pocket. The OG Droid was a perfect size, and this one isn't much bigger. For times when I really need a larger screen, I'll use my tablet.

Agree 100%. I stuck with my Eris for quite a while because I loved that I could just drop it into my pocket & hardly feel it. I got used to the 4" screen on the Dinc2 & played with all the big ones before I got my Inc4. 3.5 to 4" is my sweet spot. I hope this isn't the last medium-to-high end device of this size. I have a phone for a reason...I also have a tablet for a reason...

I completely disagree, 4.5+ is good for some people but what about ppl who dont want to carry around a phonblet?
I think we will see a 4.3' htc phone soon
If this would have come out before the shared data plans my wife would have one now. We're both coming from the og incredible. I now have a Rezound and she has a sg3. She likes the phone mostly except for the size. She wanted this but loosing unlimited isn't going to happen

What do you wear skinny jeans?? Lol
I have the nexus 4.65 in screen and it fits fine even in my skinnies, but I can see how the smaller screen is nice, I play with my OG inc sometimes because of it

LOL, no. Shirt pocket. Sits nicely there. Wife's Rezound does not fit as well, especially with a thin case. I do like the Rezound's larger screen, but it isn't worth the weight/overall size trade-off.

to me 4 inch screen is perfect, i prefer it to the 4.3-4.7 ones out there...i have a tablet if i want to browse/game on a huge screen and to me those mid 4 sizes arent big enough to replace using a tablet
the only bigger screen id consider is a galaxy note type one 5.3+ where i can actually use it as a phone/tablet since the screen is big enough

It'd be awesome if the Dinc 4G had a 720p screen at 4 in, that would be an awesome mix of compactness and pixel density

I really dont think that is necessary at this size. Until i put the phone so close to my eyes that they start to cross i cannot see individual pixels. At normal viewing distance the screen is razor sharp
having owned the Inc1, Eris, i cant remember their dimensions, man the inc1 was a great candy bar like phone for after the Eris-where it all began for me.
anyway, the inc2 was just a perfect phone and will most likely always be on my favorite list of phones. The build quailty was superb.
Having owned the Rezound + and the Gnex, I got the gnex first (coming from and iphone4 (x-mas gift, lol) + inc2 for the Gnex.
I love it for about a week. It was fun to play with AOSP and ICS was new at the time.(before BAMD Paradigmn was even released), and then I just coulndt handle it for my everyday use and movement, it was too wide of a phone IMO, so I traded the Gnex for a Rezound, if the Gnex had the body of the Rezound but with the Gnex slimness, I would have love that phone.
So there I was in the Rezound community, making great friends and not-so-great friends.
This phone will get good attention once things start rolling.
It's unfortunate that Verizon locked us out, so I have 3 inc4gs and only one is unlocked, fV<*ing sucks. (waiting on S-OFF crew to e-mail to begin work, BTW) but that IMO 100% will be back, it just depends when
what's great though, is the Rezound was not that great of a phone until about 2 months before S-OFF came, and it took 6 months before anyone even TALKED about support S-OFF for the Rez. Once that happened it blew up, and unfortunately with their forums I would say, well, in the worst way possible.
For us though, we went into this as a community knowing that they are providing their time to possibly bring us full radio S-OFF which is what really makes the phone, and we did this within 4 hours. that is simply amazing!
Anyway sorry to get off track, I personally think once we get root back and (knock on wood) S-OFF, this phone is going to take over a new life of it's own and in a good way I very much so hope.
The Inc2 community was Gold as Rezound was a 0.
I think we are going to be a very good community that will provide quality products.
"the waiting is hard f**king takes soo long" -kyuss
but patience is a virtue.
No surprise.
Everytime I turn on the tv, I see a SG3 commercial. You were able to order it and still keep unlimited (without any extra steps). Its marketed as the top of the line phone.
On the other hand for the Inc4g, I have seen zero commercials. Even in the news, I saw a little bit about when they announced it months ago, but almost nothing when it actually came out. It came out right after the unlimited grandfathering went away. Almost all the reviews say the phone is "mediocre" mostly due to the hype eventhough the two have almost the same hardware.
In the end it comes down to marketing. If you do a great job marketing / creating hype, like with the iphone and the SG3, you'll get lots of interest. On the other hand, if you do absolutely nothing to market the phone then no one will care either because they don't know about the existance of the phone or people think it sucks. Remember the average person dosen't know anything about technology and basically depend on marketing to tell them what to buy. Even for those of us that are more tech savy, its hard to see through the hype sometimes.
I guess I'm surprised why HTC and/or Verizon would spend so much money developing a new phone and not choose to market it. Maybe the profit margin on the SG3 is alot higher.

almost the same hardware? The s3 has 2GB ram, and an amoled screen, not to mention a huge one, really the only similarity Is the CPU and CDMA/LTE

There already is one The One S on T-Mobile.
I think I'm happy with my 4.0" screen and certainly didn't want some huge 4.7 or 4.8er, but part of me wishes VZW had just let HTC put out the 4.3" One S on their network as well.
I am so excited to purchase the HTC Droid DNA. Quad,LTE,True 1080 HD.WOW
It also looks amazing and looks like the speakers take up the whole side of the phone! :good:
Thing better have a huge battery lol

It'll sell but not like it should since HTC can't figure out how to put a big battery in a phone.

This and only 16GB with no SD, locked bootloader and craptons of VZW bloat. I feel bad for HTC really...
I don't think the locked bootloader or bloat will affect sales much. Not many people are going go with something else because of this - it's not like Verizon has alternatives. Most people probably won't even ask what the battery size is and just see the 12.5 hours of usage and think it's enough. People just getting off of a 2 year that don't research phones also wouldn't think to ask if it has a sd card slot since that was standard last time they got a phone. Kind of like asking if a tv comes with a remote, you just figure it does since they have for a good while.

I share your excitement but I'm pretty sure one of the HTC reps said the red grilles on the sides are only aesthetic, not speakers or anything.
HOWEVER. They have incorporated 2 audio amps, one for line jack and one for speaker! So line out will be getting around 2.5amp vs the normal 0.5-1.0amp (or was it volt? idk) So louder music with less distortion!

no it doesn't it's not even 3000MaH. Huge power hungry screen and power hungry LTE and a Wimpy battery not a good mood unless the technology for running it is 5 *better than 4.1.2 lol

unless you live by the boondocks and constantly jump between 3g and 4g, lte can actually use less power, since it can finish a download and turn off like 5 times faster than 3g

Awesome.
The phone is the only quad core phone on Verizon other than Note....and that has a screen way too big. Verizon had kinda screwed with the Butterfly because it had a SD slot and more battery. Verizon could have made this one of the most popular phone on the market with some nice ads and stuff like Samsung had done with S3. Ah well, when will they learn that giving users what they want will make both sides happier.

Really its not HTC its all Verizon because you see so many ads for Sprint, AT&T, and T -mobile HTC devices. Verizon controls HTC a lot with sd slot and battery. Why make one x+ have 64 gigs and not their flagship? That's Verizon for ya
