A MP3 app that can rival Windows Media Player? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Appologies if this is in the wrong place but there are just too many variations for my little brain, sorry.
Is there an android app that will play MP3's which are storred on a home network NAS box?
My Windows Media Player does this rather well however I would like the same feature on my tablet and phone. That way I can get them to play music on my wireless speakers. My only other option is to buy a SONOS speaker but that's toooooo expensive.
Cheers

Bump?
Please

Simple Google search "Android nas streaming" and this came up.

[Q] live stream from android (UPNP / DLNA)

Hi
Is there an application that can stream the sound sent to speaker or headphones to UPNP or DLNA compatible devices?
The idea is to stream what is playing in the android device to a device like Sonos
Thanks
A device like Sonos or a real Sonos? If its a Sonos, just download their app. Otherwise, just search the market, I believe there are some apps which do this. Some HTC and Samsung models even have their own app to do this
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's a sonos system but the solution could apply to any DLNA/UPnP renderer.
Sonos supports some streaming providers like spotify and supports playing music from a media or NAS server.
The issue arrives when using some streaming providers that are not supported by sonos (like a provider in Denmark called TDC Play) or that cannot send the sound via DLNA/UPnp (play to) . So the solution is then for sonos to support this provider or in case this is not possible to make the android system streaming what is being played through the speaker or headphones.
I'm searching the net for some time and so far could not find any app capable of doing this. There are apps that can stream music, video and pics stored in the android device but not streaming what is being played through the speaker or headphones.
Cheers

Sonos controller has this functionality now to play songs from your android device directly. Look for "This mobile device". Just get a huge sdcard and put your fav songs there. It would work for the most part.
Android controller apps that support UPnP server streaming to Sonos renderers
I have been able to use the android apps BubbleUPnP and Belkin MediaPlay (was Twonky Beam) to connect to my TomatoUSB router running its DLNA server and send the mp3 tracks on the flash drive on the router to my Sonos speakers as the DLNA renderer.
Most other android UPnP apps I tested either did not find the Sonos as a renderer or were not capable of playing music to a remote renderer at all.
I don't know if there is any open source code to help one to do this, though one of the apps (SlickUPnP) I tested was open source, but did not support remote renderers at all.
Could you find a solution?
Hi mtsales,
Could you find any app which can send the system audio to sonos speakers over upnp/dlna?

Media Streaming

Just a heads up guys that Plex is in the market place now for download allowing streaming of all your movies, music and pictures from your home PC. Best part is it will convert recordings from Windows Media Centre on the fly, so for me during my train rides home I can now watch TV. Awesome.

Cheers bub, was waiting on this.
Works flawlessly, even better than my iphone version. No skips and stutters (that might have something to do with the Lumia gets WAY better reception that the iphone). I have only one complaint and that is that the audio is very very low. So low in fact its hard to hear with headphones at max volume.
any idea on how to embed subtitles in films?

[Q]Android as playback device

I've searched the forums here and other sites for my question, but did not find an answer. Here is what I would like to accomplish:
-On my laptop (Win 7), add my Android (Galaxy Nexus 4.0.3) as a playback device. My phone is connected to my bookshelf speaker setup that is in the same room but not near my desk. So when I am playing music on my laptop, let it be Pandora or Google music streams, I would like the sound to be played from the phone that is connected to the speakers.
I have looked at two possible approaches:
1) Remote control the phone and use the Google Music app on the android to play the songs. Essentially control the phone from PC. I did not find a suitable app for that one
2)Use the phone as a playback device on the Win 7.
If anyone here has a different approach advise, feel free to share.
So is there a way to do this?
I guess I did not do a detailed enough search. I found a way to accomplish this.
On the PC side, installed the application called AirFoil.
On Android, installed the app called airbubble.
Stream sound from Airfoil on the PC to Airbubble on Android work just fine (with a slight delay)
The nice thing about AirFoil is that you can choose the source of the sound, let it be the web browser or your media player.
I hope this helps others.
I found this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nav.aoaservice
You need root for it to work.

Music player app aimed at drivers

First up, if you have seen something like this, I did my best to search and what not, so sorry in advance.
What I am hunting down is a music player app that has large buttons / slide controls for more or less everything (think MX video player) for music. I am aiming to turn my Xoom into the media hub in my car, and the final part, would be a music control app like this.
I would only need it to read the music on local media, but if it can stream net radio, then thats' a bonus
Cheers in advance guys

XBox Music on WP8?

Lots of hype about XBox Music, but so far I can't figure out how to use it on my Lumia 920. There's no XBox Music app that I can find. Can anyone help?

You have to subscribe to Xbox Music Pass first.
After subscribing the streaming should be integrated into the Music + Video hub.
You don't need a subscription to stream music you just need to add them to your cloud with the music app in windows 8. If you go to settings then on windows phone you can turn on or off sync with cloud. I do not have a pass but I do have a surface and an HTC 8X and am listening to xbox music right now .
the music app is xbox music, nothing needed to download, it's built into the phone.

I am an Xbox Music Pass owner, but I cannot seem to get all the music in my collection into the Xbox Music collection on my 8X. It syncs a few songs, around 300, but nowhere near the amount of songs I have in the collection on my PC. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong, if anything?
There does seem to be a problem with the "cloud collection" in xbox music for wp8. Here is an issue I had:
-went to download an album from the Store using my paid Xbox Music Pass subscription
-saw that it was already "in my collection" and therefore I could choose between buying it outright or streaming it
-went into Xbox music and turned on "show my cloud collection"
-lo and behold, the artist/album was NOT THERE to download
I had to actually stream the album, go to the Now Playing screen, hit the three dots, tap Download, then skip to the next track and do the same thing. By the time I got to the last song Xbox Music had crashed and the Store wouldn't open. I had to reboot the phone and try again --TWICE-- before it worked.
It's great when it works, but it rarely works. We're all beta testing this, folks.

the xbox music app on both ends (PC and phone) are a mess with management and syncing. personally i just download what i want on my phone via the phone store, it's not ideal (esp if you want a bunch of stuff or have things organized a specific way on the PC) but it's less headache for me right now.
