Question about custom ROM's and the S Pen. My understanding is that the Samsung specific apps like S Note, S Memo, and S Voice require a Samsung based ROM, ie a custom ROM that is NOT cm9/cm10/aosp/aokp based.
If that's true, what do users on the non-Samsung ROM's recommend a best alternate apps to the Samsung built apps (S Note, S Memo and/or S Voice)?
TIA.

i include an app called G-Note in my pa rom, its a perfect s-note replacement app built off samsungs spen sdk.
Quill is the bomb-diggity for notes. And you can send them anywhere because the output is a pdf.

Well now that the latest dessert treat has made its way, and relatively stable, to the AT&T Galaxy S II, I figure it is time to make shout outs for everyone's favorite 4.0+ apps.
Initially I have been very interested, and so far impressed with the new launchers, namely:
Apex, and Nova. Right now I like Apex the most because all the features are free and I haven't found much I feel I need in Nova.
Also new browsers (none of these support tabbed browsing):
Chrome Beta and Quick ICS Browser
Please share any apps specifically made for ICS for everyone to see
ICS Browser+ (better browser tab settings and has quick menu holding finger to the side of the screen)
use it on my prime and is better than stock on galaxy s2 also
Using EX Dialer with ICS Theme to replace the samsung stock dialer.
Both Chrome Beta and Quick ICS Browser support tab browsing...

I have an issue regarding an app ever since switching to ICS. Mangawhat. Its the best comic and manga app out there that I've seen. But ever since going to ics, it FC's everytime I try to open a zip file saved on my SD card. This problem has never even been brought up before. Any ideas? And could someone here give it a go?

Is there any way to push the stock ICS dialer to TW ICS roms? Or are Samsung's hooks too extensive?
Hey guys I am looking for more apps that are not available on the app store aka crayon physics, Snes9 EX. Apps that have to be sideloaded by apps like easy installer. Thank you for the info!
there is already a thread with crayon pyshics that you can get it from. it is about 5 threads down from this one. and if you google Snes9 EX the first result that pops up has a download.

Sorry I ment to say other than those apps.
What apps are you looking for?
looking for apps....
that at&t greedily hid from us like the s-pen video/photo editing app shown in the s pen user guide you can download from the market/play store....i have been searching for a while. for some reason my note has a hard time with the "search" here at xda forums. i know, i should use the xda forum app....
The photo editing app does come with stock. Access it through gallery. Select picture then menu/more/edit
photo/video editing app
Thanks but the app i meant is the one that is mentioned in the s pen guide - the official samsung guide that you can get in the app store. It has instructional videos for the s pen and one of them shows a great video editing app...that is the one i mean. Apparently at&t has left it out of their ics upgrade. I have used the photo editing app in the gallery and it is nothing to get excited about. There is nothing there to edit videos as far as i can see...
I read there are more things for the note at the Samsung app store.
The video editing app is mentioned on this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29285530
i ported the video editor from the international note to my at&t note and i love it

Hey kids. i'm looking to find a note app that utilizes the S-pen and sync with the cloud (dropbox, box.net etc). I tried Gnote, but it doesn't support the pen, just keyboard based input. Anyone know of an app that can do the above?

Evernote with Skitch works wonders. Check it out. The bonus to this is all of my past notes are now annotatable.

Bamboo Paper is out now and works nicely with the S Pen, however it's feature set is incredibly light. No undo/redo, and you'd need to share each page individually. It's far less capable than the iOS version, but hopefully they will improve it soon as it looks gorgeous.

Hey
There is a undo/redo and its pretty nice the way its handled
You do an undo by swiping two fingers towards the left... if u took too much out, simply slide back towards the right

It does but you have to enter credentials every time which is a real pain. If Samsung only had the brains to autosync s note to the Web they would have a product i would genuinely pay good money for. I love using it but tend to use Evernote with less features as my notes are automatically on the Web when i go to PC, just don't really get to use the s pen then, and skitch note sucks!
Try freenote, just got it, the UI is terrible but once you get used to menus the feature set is pretty amazing

While the native s-note file exension, which is snb, will upload to drop box you cannot open it in anything other than s note. I have found it is best to export your s-note note as a pdf and then upload it to dropbox, or drive or what have you. You can then import the pdf back into the s-note app and then continue to add to it. Not ideal, I agree but certainly doable. This is how I export my meeting notes that I take.
Hope this helps.
Dexkoz2302 has made a brillant rom for the i605 note 2, and it so great I makes my tablet feel shameful. While it is touch wiz dependent I was wondering if anyone has dabbled in anything like this.

found out anything about it?
i too am interested

Multi window is currently touch whiz framework dependent. Unless someone ports the touchwhiz framework from samsung to Asus (hasn't happened so far) you have little chance of seeing multi window functionality. Even then it only works with Samsung specific apps........
Someone has ported the sony small apps which gives you some floating apps like a note pad, calendar, calculator. I may have a go at porting these as hardslog has already defined how to do it....
xposed
there is a module on xposed, it works, but is crappy
and, it is not a samsung framework, there is a plenty of roms with multiwindow, but prime almost doesnt have a development and therefore doesnt have that feature
Using the Note app with the S-Pen is important to me so I am wondering if there is any 4.3/4.4 ROM out there that will do this. Thanks.

Check out these pens from Adonit. They eliminate your need for TouchWiz. They focus on iOS support, but they do work with Android. There are a number of YouTube videos you can review.

Papyrus is another option. I actually forgot this phone has an spen.

If you really want the Samsung apps, then the answer is no.
There are a ton of apps which work with the spen hardware just like on a stock rom, including palm rejection and spen button use etc, use the market and search.
Thanks guys, I will try all your suggestions out. I like the handwriting to text feature though.
There's nothing better than S-Notes but a few as good. Here are my top choices in order of best.
LectureNotes - though on KitKat, the writing lags a bit
Papyrus
Memo
Stylus Beta - Although not a note app, it allows you to use the S-Pen to input text
Write
Jotter
Bamboo Paper
OmniNote
