Anyone else noticed that there is still no battery usage data available even after the ICS update?
Is this a kernel issue?
I was a bit supprised that this is still not fixed.
I wanted to study the usgage as it seems not as good since the ICS update.
I agree this would be very useful feature
Several threads on this already but the answer is.. yes, kernel related and they failed to update the kernel and roll this function in. It does suck, as that is a valuable feature.
Complain to them, email or call.
Battery usage is showing up on mine... maybe I don't know what I'm talking about . Are there some other battery-specific statistics we should be seeing apart from the graph and time?
But I do have to agree, the battery on ICS doesn't seem to be as strong as HC. One thing I've noticed though is that the usage time on ICS seems to be count of actual hours, not including idle, while HC graphed idle.
Soon as I got home yesterday, I started using my Prime for a couple hours, put it to sleep while I did other things for a couple hours, then used it for the rest of the night before going to bed. Looking at my battery usage, it was at about 5.6 hours of usage, which is technically the amount of time I was using it. And my battery percentage was @ 42% at the end of the night.
Guys they did this for a reason constantly checking what apps are using the battery USES battery this is the same reason why Task killers do more harm then good on battery life!

This seems hard to believe that they disabled the function to save a minute amount of battery life. I would expect it to be enabled in a future update.
Mines started showing after the update.

You realise the ipad has a standby battery life of about a month? This is one of the reasons why. SystemPanel has this functionality if you NEED it.

Yes, and SystemPanel uses "one minute of CPU / battery time per day of operation" so I'm pretty sure the consumption is so insignificant as to not be a key area of savings.

Showed what? We are looking for the display that shows the % of system resources and specific apps that have been consuming battery. This function does not work on the ATP.

poppy-**** - This function, minimal minimal power draw. So much so, many RO M makers and kernel makers are sure to add this function in their work as it is so valuable, the same guys that do everything to eek out battery life and minimize resource use to make the best releases keep this function. Notice the screen shot below? It is from ICS and it is from a ROM where the function was cooked in and made available on that kernel. And furthermore, according to previous TF owners, Asus added this in at a later update so it would correctly report. I would love to know where you officially read that Asus purposefully did not cook this into their kernel to "save battery".

Nope, your wrong
First.. this function is cooked into the kernel. If they don't cook it in, we don't get the data. So, it is not broke or busted, just not available.
Second... for the guys that say it works on the TFP, not true. Look close at the chart/graph - all you see are SYSTEM processes. You "should" be able to see actual apps and all 3rd party apps you installed battery usage.
If Asus had done it right, we should see this.. notice BELOW the first 6 system resources you can start to see the actual apps and their usage listed. We only get system resources.

Actually, you are incorrect. That is exactly the screen I have on both my 64 GB & my wife's 32 GB. Also if you click on the chart, you can see the status of when Wifi, gps, etc are all on and off.
Well mine hasn't worked before the update and it doesn't work after the update.

Yes I can click on the chart. Yes I know how to use the setting. Yes I can see wifi, gps, screen, awake, charging, etc.. BUT THOSE ARE SYSTEM RESOURCES not apps! We are suppose to be able to see 3rd party apps and all apps usage, not just system resources. We all have this screen, we all have the chart, we all have the setting, we all have the timer, we do not have the ability to see any battery usage data about anything other than system resources.
So, do 2 things if you claim you can see 3rd party APPS..
1. post up your kernel (2.6.39.4 is mine)
2. post up a screen shot - let me see it and let me see it show 3rd part apps usage
That's correct. I mentioned the system resources because you were showing the app screen, which is what I have on both Primes in addition to the other screen.
Here are my details:
Android Version: 4.0.3
GPS version v6.8.13
Wi-fi: 6.1.1.17
BT: 9.23
kernal version: 2.6.39.4
Build IM74k.us_epad-9.4.2.7-20120106
I'm not able to post pictures from work, due to our proxy server. I'll do so from my unit tonight when I get home.
Not following you..
"That's correct." does that mean I am correct you do not see 3rd party apps and only see system apps or are you saying "That's correct, I can see 3rd party apps AND system apps"?
What do you mean "because you were showing the app screen"??
So your confirming, with the same kernel as me and everyone else, you see 3rd party apps in your list. Notice in the photo above you can see, at the bottom of the list UNDER the system resources you can see 2 3rd party apps.. Facebook and Google+ so your saying you can see apps like that??
I find this very hard to believe. I have 2 Primes in front of me, neither show anything but system resources. We are all on same kernel. Both show like this.. Notice nothing but system resources show and also notice that in photo 1 under just the timer NO list of apps or resources and then in photo 2 when you expand the chart, only system resources. If we had full function in the kernel, we should see it like the above phone screenshot.
So, post up your photos, now I am dying to see this...

srsly? I can't even see system stuff. Mine still says battery usage info not available. I've done several factory resets after ICS to try and fix other stuff, i just thought this was still broken.
Notice in my photo 1 - the main "Battery" screen before the chart is expanded - I also show no specific battery data as you should under the collapsed chart. I only show "battery usage data not available" and the timer that shows how long you have been off charge. We "should" see a full list of system resources and apps below that collapsed chart.
Notice in my photo 2 - the secondary screen when the chart is clicked and expanded, we only see system resources below the chart when we should, again, see all apps listed that are consuming battery.
So again, I can't wait to see chamberc's Prime screenshots showing his 3rd party apps displaying in ICS - heck, this did not even work in Honeycomb. I don't see how it is possible as we are on same kernel and many report this and I have 2 Primes in front of me both showing the same thing.
Okay, I have a few tips that are likely helpful, or you could help me explore.. If anyone wants to post some useful features that may be overlooked or are hidden, I can update the OP.
First- Ram Utilization - Make that phone even more snappy!
Note- this settings resets after reboot! You would have to change each time you reboot!
Something I have been testing and seems to make a TREMENDOUS and immediate difference, at least in performance(and maybe battery, I guess it would depend on the background process cpu consumption)- the background process limit in developer options..
If you go to settings>developer settings>and change the background process limit to 4 or less(background processes-things that sync, this is NOT the same as activities which has its own setting, you can still multitask). If you want to test it out yourself, either pull down the status bar and click total memory, or get an app that gives you a much better breakdown of uses- I like system tuner, it does a good job. The third tip in this post will give you a shortcut to make it quicker to test.
Here are some screenshots of the ram break down-
This is with STANDARD limit:

}
Pay attention to all the numbers under memory usage-- now compare to when the limit is set to 4--
It goes from 289mb free to over 400mb free- the user space allocated ram goes from 58 to 83(this is the ram given to what you are actually DOING), and as you will see the rest of the allocated ram for included and excluded system and kernel all went DOWN. This is under FULL load. For these screenshots I went from limit for 4 to standard limit.. but as soon as I limited it to 4 it immediately jumped from 290mb of free ram to over 400 again.
I've been playing with this because I keep seeing people commenting on Keyboard lag- I experience it myself- and when it happens I noticed that there were too many background processes going on.. then again I have over 100 3rd party apps to hog my memory.
AGAIN, there IS a setting for "Don't keep activities- destroy activities as user leaves it"-- that is what would kill multitasking- I still had 8+ activities I could switch too and all were noticably snappier with background process limit of 4(or less). The difference between a limit of 4 and a limit of 1 seemed negligable, so for me I will stick to limit of 4..
Moving on..
Settings Usage- more useful than you might think.. - it may help tame data hungry apps and even reduce wakelocks(saving battery)
If you set a data usage limit you can actually restrict apps from using background data altogether- this is up to you, but may be useful if you ONLY want it to have access to data when it is in the foreground(you are USING it). Like I hate facebook, or I should say I hate that even if I tell it not to sync, it still uses data, still consumes CPU(in betterbatterystats it was number 3).. but if you go to- System Settings>Usage>set data usage limit(must be turned on to work)> click the name of the app>then check the box you'll see below..
..it'll show you a little pie chart of the foreground data(you using it) that is allowed versus what would be blocked. Before I enabled this it was causing wakelocks(wasted CPU), but since I enabled this there are no more wakelocks.. which is explained in the NEXT picture, the warning you get when you choose to enable it..
Which is why it wasn't creating wakelocks, it simply wasn't WORKING when I wasn't using it-- so be aware of that. ALSO be aware that if you enable something like dropbox like I did originally for my example, which I then used to upload these images -- some processes in an app ARE background, so when I shared from gallery dropbox was only a background process.. until I went into dropbox(making it a foreground app) or removed the restriction, or connected to WIFI, the pictures I was trying to share(hint, careful on disabling apps that share things) would never go thru.
As a last note on this feature, when you are in the usage settings you can click the menu button, click usage settings, and enable "restrict background data"(which I believe is a global feature, not sure though) or "show wifi usage".. Clicking show wifi usage enables the two tabs you see at the top of the pictures above, and I am pretty sure that if you click that tab, then an app and disable it THERE, it will restrict background data on the WIFI side(which is how I got facebook to stop wakelock altogether).
If I am wrong about any of this above, feel free to correct me
And I know this is supposed to be JUST ICS features, but this launcher is supposed to be like aosp launcher and has some extra usefulness..
Activities shortcuts with Apex Launcher - Hey, I think it is cool.. maybe someone else will too?
If you have apex launcher(available free in market) and you want to do some testing yourself to see which option for the last tip is better(as an example), the quickest way to the development settings- Longpress or menu button then add>shortcut>Activities>scroll all the way to settings, click expand arrow, scroll all the way down to "Developer options(.Settings$DevelopmentSettingsActivity)" and select it..
If you look through that list of activities, you will see this can be a VERY useful feature that hasn't been around much since Launcher Pro.
Anyways, that is all I can share now..
Very nice! At least I learned a few things! If you know where Face Unlock is and how to hide apps from the app drawer, please post it! I can't find both lol.

Quadrant isn't a good app, give up on it. Try antutu benchmark, or just don't base any opinions on any benchmark apps- they don't tell you anything.

So do I need to change my values or leave it as it is?
I charged my phone to 100% (Full Charged) and now it's 50%, is AutoKiller Memory Optimizer running in the background using more battery?
I'm using JuiceDefender Ultimate with Extreme profile
the default value is the one that andoid use by default, set in the kernel.
if u adjust it, it can bring effects of more ram and maybe less multitask as android will contantly killing background app/process. its a trade off between more free ram and multitask.
worth thing to note, u shouldn't treat android as windows. not all app/process running in background can drain battery/resource. android works way different than windows. closed app wont be killed instantly, it'll be stored in ram so when u reopen it again it would be faster to launch. the value as showed in the app is what android use to determine which app/process to kills and what process/apps to leave.
if u feels the app drains your battery then dont use it, let android do its own process killing its own way.

So the values shown in AutoKiller Memory Optimizer is the same as Android values, if I leave them as default I should rather let Android do them itself?
P.S - Sometimes I check how much RAM I have left and it says 50MB, so some apps are running in the background using battery?

Hah! I thought it was just another task killer, my bad, sorry. Though i still think that you shouldn't use it, if you don't know what you're doing... I really can't see how it would make anything better, in hands of a person who doesn't understand it.
But as i understand it, the app shouldn't be running on the background. So you've just inputted some wrong values, which make the battery drain faster.
Edit: And juicedefender also might have an affect, as there's also some kind of memory tweaks? So at least delete one of the apps.

Even if they're on the background, it doesn't mean that they would use any battery. It's the cpu usage that matters in android, not ram.
When I look at the processes that is running, Facebook, Google Play Store and PowerAMP is always running using RAM, so it will drain battery as well?
P.S - When does Android automatically closes apps?

If those apps are using cpu, then they will drain battery. If they are NOT using CPU, then they are NOT draining battery.
Android closes apps automatically, when more ram is needed, simple as that.

Things about ram:
When android needs to free up RAM to launch a process it will use CPU, which will use battery. So if most RAM is already occupied, and you launch a heavy app (like a 3d game) it will take longer to launch and at first it will be laggy while the system frees up the necessary RAM. This will also use more battery than having already free RAM.
Autokiller:
Its great. It tweaks the default values of android's native task killer. Depending on which apps you use the most, you can change how much free RAM you want to have. This is useful cuz even apps you use once a month will remain in RAM as long as there is RAM available, so by raising the free RAM values you can make sure only apps you use the most stay in RAM.
Tradeoff:
If the free RAM value is too high, you won't be able to multitask well, and also the system will be constantly freeing up RAM which uses more battery. If it is too low, almost all apps will remain in memory, meaning the system will work extra when launching new apps, which will use more battery.
Autokiller allows you to personalize the system's native task killer, there isn't a thing like best values. It depends on your use. If anything, leave the default values and nothing will change. Be sure to read the documentation on how it works, there is plenty.

Hi Bewinxed ;
actually Speed Booster app does clean junk file and boost memory :
it's a One-tap optimize. Also clear your cache, APKs and unwanted files.
5 star reviews are greatly appreciated and encourages us to continue improving Speed Booster for you.
But there's no point freeing up RAM... Android already does that for you when it needs it. Free RAM is wasted RAM.

Yes MrAxlee thats true , but unused ram is a part of system performance ; you want to have some memory free. Your devices will not have enough memory to preload EVERY application, so it has to guess based on your actions. It needs to have enough memory available to quickly load an app that you may want.
Let's say that you want to load an application that requires 256MB of RAM, but you only have 128MB available. This means that the OS is going to try to clear 128MB of RAM to accomodate your app, and as your app loads, will try to clear another 128MB to return to its previous state. This clear/load/clear causes a longer load time and more slowdown than just loading an app not already in memory.
I dont recommend using task killers every then and now, but i do recommend cache cleaner and boost apps because in my experience, even on a high end phone, clearing the app cache does work when scrolling gets choppy or the keyboard gets laggy. Thats probably down to bad apps . :good:
Our Speed Booster & cache cleaner Tool have many option to choose from : one Tap Boost , cache clean or apps backup ...etc
you will find that it actually 'cure' the lag , and enhance phone speed
That of course doesn't mean that Android's Memory management sucks , but what do you think happens when you install 20+ random apps from the market? Yeah, you need a task manager.
On windows, you do want to free up RAM, for the reasons you specified. But on Android, it's completely different. In short, android likes running with a pretty full up RAM, around 80/85%. If you remove them all, after a couple of minutes it'll just launch them again and use even more resources in doing so (it uses more resources to launch than it does to run). Your phone learns how you use your phone the more you use it, it knows what you use most andleast and loads those apps into your RAM accordingly. Using up all your RAM to load the apps it knows you'll be opening and using to speed up those ones.
Also, your phone uses flash memory rather than (what most people are using) disk memory. Flash memory is plenty fast enough to launch your applications, and also constantly reading and writing off your flash memory will just degrade it.

I'd filled my entire 32GB of storage on my new S7 Edge within an hour of owning, solely with apps. I haven't experienced any more lag than I did when it was on stock. This is a common theme across every phone I've owned.
What you're experiencing is a placebo effect.
If you want to optimise performance, something like how Greenify works would be best. Apps closed by greenify don't automatically reopen.
In regards to your app though, the other features I like very much.
MrAxlee, Free RAM = free CPU.
You will see it on stupid cheap devices.
So, calm down and keep using S7 or another expensive smartphone. And stop writing this **** like "Android automatically clean RAM ".

Go and get greenify and then concentrate on other pressing matters in life than freeing up ram that will eventually be full again in minutes....

Of course we are. Those kinds of apps should be illegal.
The developer of this app made this thread, so he will try to convince us to use his creation.
I installed the aicp_hlte_mm-11.0-UNOFFICIAL-20160112 on my galaxy note 3 and I couldn't be happier. It does, however make my phone lag a tad bit sometimes unlike what the original 5.0 samsung rom did. I wouldn't go back anytime soon anyway.
MM does RAM resource management pretty good right? So I don't need apps like this one?
thanks bro
thanks
thanks bro i really need this
You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the LG G6 performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the LG G6 keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I've run over 30 apps at once and it swaps between them instantly without lag. No issues whatsoever doing what I want how I want on this phone.
I'm not sure if anyone is getting this same error, but it keeps saying that I don't have enough memory to play videos. Never seen this error on any other LG phone that I have owned in the past. http://imgur.com/waldOvw

More ram used is better on Android. Most 4GB phones run with around 1 to 1.5GB free. Android caches your app data to improve loading times. Having more free ram actually hurts you. Androids memory management isn't like Windows for example.
This phone is an absolute dream for multitasking lol.
Is this phone overly aggressive on memory management? I keep seeing times when either overnight or even just not using the phone for like an hour, I suddenly only have 3 apps in my recent apps list and not the 6 or 8 I had been using. Which is just baffling to me as I never saw this on my old Galaxy S6. With 4GB of ram, this phone should not be needing to dump apps out on its own like this so much.
That's odd. Everything I have running stays running with no issues other than the stuff I have set to auto-close, via Greenify.
I thought with Android 7 the need for Greenify disappeared?
The multitasking is great but there's one glaring design flaw. When you have an app open and you open the notification drawer you get this round button at the bottom to change app scaling. This is great until you want to type a reply in the notification drawer.
The scaling button stands on top of your keyboard making it impossible to type anything without constantly having to move the button out of the way. The button is locked to the bottom so you can only move it left and right. Thankfully it only appears on certain apps like games.

just go into the 'secret menu'... *#546368#*870# (for the H870 model) open SMC menu and go to the bottom and select force long display, and change it to true, then the app scaling reminder/option will (should) stop. While there disable LDB (LG's 24/7 tracking software) frees up a lot of memory and helps battery to.

There's no clear information about what LDB actually does? Why qoulg LG shot 300 mb usefully usage into its feet?

The function of LDB (MLT) is well known, you can Google it.

Yes disabling it definitely adds a bit more zing to performance not to mention better battery.

Also never forever about developer options and animation scale. I always run mine at .5 sadly zero never works for me but I use nova launcher and its "faster than light" seething. Forget animation make it faster..also hopefully everyone knows about double tapping the recent apps button and you can quickly swap between the last app you were in and the one you're currently in. Much faster than selecting it from the list

Disabling animation actually causes black or white screen between switching apps... Just momentarily
thanks for the info bro.

Putting it at .5x and force render 2d does not cause black or white screen between apps. That's something else. I've been doing that on every phone for 5years. From lg to Samsung

Ya i have been doing the same . force gpu 2d rendering actually causes more battery drain.
I have disabled LDB/MLT services under secret menu that helped a bit.
0.5x doesn't cause black or white screen transition. I was saying about animation off scenario
When i lock the screen apps using internet (like chrome, amazon...) are killed immediatly from ram and I have to launch them again. Is there any option to change or something I can do?
