Hi Zoot1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724124&page=51
As you can see there are a lot of ppl upgrading the firmware due to the quality of low light pics, although not proven it helps the upgrade.
Thanks anyway
Updated everytime, included few days ago when I found that there is a new firmware. Looks like it's improving a bit the shooting in low light. Had no issue with the camera after upgrades btw.
Okay maybe I am worng..but I had read in some thread if you use some dialer nuber combination..you will get an option to upgrade your Camera Firmware..upgrading your firmware from there results in a broken camare..
Again as I said AFAIK..and my knowledge is extremely limited

That's what I've done
I have typed the magic code and I had a new update (the second since I have the phone), updated it and everything is okay so far. Need to take some pics later in low light to see if there is any improvement.
Cheers

Uhm, it's advised never to mess with the camera update option, even though it may work for you. Suddenly, you'll notice the camera stops working, and the only solution will be Samsung service center.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

So I guess we shouldn't use Kies or Ota to update android right? It's an update and the device can suddenly stopped later
Come on... It's an update, that's it's role. First time updated it two and half months ago and still no issue. And check the other threads, there are hundreds of people here and others on the Internet saying that they have updated it and no issue so far. You need to have really bad luck to mess the camera

I upgrade camera firmware with every new official ROM (JB doesn't work), but even you don't update it, the camera use the last firmware incorporated in the ROM, you can see it in the photo EXIF info. So it always uses the last firmware even w/o flashing it. :highfive:

Just saying. Many others have reported their camera firmware disappearing after a failed update. There's no way you can put it back yourself as the actual firmware that powers the camera isn't related to the /system folder, or any other folder that is replaced when switching ROMs.
Just because it has worked for you and a bunch of other people, doesn't mean it'll work for anyone.
Messing with the camera firmware isn't at all like messing with a ROM/kernel/recovery or modem. Those you can replace yourself.

Yup, about this you're totally right. When you update the camera is very important that nothing stop the process, like a phone call. When everything is done and ask for reboot, that's what you need to do, without being distracted by any app, email, call etc. If you're careful everything should be just fine.

Well, without answering directly to my inicial question vessk0 has done it, it has to be official JB doesnt work (because none is official )
About no leting nothing disturb the fw update just use a task manager and airplane mode. I agree with demlasjr its an update. Risky as allways but as a digital cam if you have the bad luck of something going wrong you have to service it, its a risk allways but without it no fixes for the products and no extra functions, you just have to know before if its worth the risk.

Hi im so sorry for making yet another thread for the camera autofocus noise but it seems devs keep ignoring this.
the camera auto focus on different roms will be worse. sometimes doing it when you turn the phone on when you use flashlight and even sometimes when the card is being read. and im sick of hearing devs blame it on the camera model or that its always been there. my camera never made any noise till i installed miui and ever since it makes noise even when i revert to stock roms. the best its been is on villian rom.
this is obviously a problem with the firmware being used or something else that devs are doing or not doing. can someone please devote some time to get this fixed please. im not the only one who feels this way and i think its wrong for devs to lead us to believe its normal when its clearly not if it effects different on different roms and that obviously the noise wasnt there before. i think its a serious fix needed.
so please please please someone get to the bottom of this

Ok, sorry for stating the obvious. Please find somebody with an OC camera that doesn't act like that, be it on stock or custom rom and then we can talk about fixing things. If that's default behavior for OC cameras and looks like it is, no dev can fix it. But i have a fix for you: replace your phone with another SII that doesn't have an OC camera. Easiest fix in the world and you can do it yourself.

i seen people who have had se firmwares and the update gave them oc and visa versa. so obviously the firmware code has no relavence to the camera. if what you say was right then the above wouldnt be possible. check out the camera firmware upgrade thread and see for yourself
I'm checking that thread often, cause i'm interested in a fix myself, but i still don't buy that firmware change, since no one else succeeded in changing an OC camera to a SC one. There's only 1 report of it. Can't really compare 1 report to all the owners with an OC camera that confirmed the clicking noises regardless of roms, firmware updates and everything else. I got no quarrel with you and i really wish you could find someone with an OC camera that doesn't behave like that. I couldn't find any and i investigated both on several forums and in real life with friends who own SII.
P.S. And i'm pretty sure if that guy uploads his apk your phone will say camera already has the latest update and can't install it.

the apk doesnt work. you cant do it like that i tried. u have to have a firmware upgrade apk or be compiled from scratch. just taking the apk out through root explorer wont make any difference.
Tested all the firmware update apks posted in that thread. None could be applied and my cam remained OC002, even though people reported that they had 002 and it turned to 009, which i highly doubt it can be done just by updating camera, cause 009 is an older version and camera wouldn't let you downgrade to a previous version. My phone has no root, so i don't have any other options than wait for another firmware update from Samsung.

been speaking to codework. would have to be pushed in through system/ect/firmware and it seems that the roms only come with oc type firmwares. so the roms have never been giving the phone the options for the se type firmwares. things are started to prove my point now. think codework is looking into it more now cause my theory is started to maybe be true
I have OCED11 ver of camera and today I heard that sound when entering camera, and when switching from photo to video mode. I don't remember hearing it before, but if others have it also, then it's nothing abnormal. I bought phone 1 month ago, and didn't install any custom apps and etc.
hi guys
couple of questions:
i have a XEUK firmware on 2.3.4 at the moment, unbranded, unlocked and rooted and phone notified me that there's an upgrade available:
- will the upgrade work via wireless from the about menu straight away or i need to go via kies?
- apps, contacts, photos and videos are gonna be deleted?
- root, will that stay or i will have to do it again?
- camera, is the white balance improved when using flash with ICS? right now colors act up with the flash, thats a known bug..
that being said, my phone runs great so i am wondering if is worth or not to upgrade, i dont care of having the very very latest release...
for who will answer these few questions, thanks in advance!
Gabrio
1. I believe you do need Kies, I wasn't able to update my phone without it.
2. No, however I strongly recommend you to backup the phone, just in case.
3. You will have to root again.
4. Not sure about this one, sorry.
Honestly, I was extremely disappointed after update because, although everything worked just fine, the phone became a little laggy and I wasn't able to change screen DPI (I bricked my phone twice as well).

No you didnt, unless you fixed it via JTAG.
Screwing up while flashing resulting in rom not booting isnt "bricking" unless you cant enter download mode or recovery.

Okay, I got a bootloop twice. The point is, it hasn't been very stable for me lately.
That too... Stable means the thing runs without any issues and Ics do run without issues, you fiddled with it than say thing is not stable is also wrong.

a correction to "semibricked" would have been enough and ics isn't that great yet. Bit sluggish and very poor battery, even on cm9-aokp-aosp and cn,but the Devs is working hard to solve these "issues".

Anyone on ics up for a test? Just take a pic indoors with flash possibly in the evening or a bit of dark area..not pitch black of course, do colors look strange?.. As of now white balance looks really funny. With a quick photoshop fix looks good.. Agreed is just a phone but doesnt seem as so hard to fix..

Kill him?, stop over-reacting child. Simply correcting his misconception. Also yours.
There is no such thing as "semibricked", Its either bricked or it isnt, simple as that. Screwing up your flash which results in rom not booting as normal is not "bricked" or "semibricked". Its only bricked when it wont boot into rom, download or recovery and only option is hardware recovery like for example when you wipe/corrupt your bootloader.
i forgot to ask one thing... how is the battery with ICS? at the moment my phone does 1 full day with heavy usage and 2 days with moderate/medium usage...

Hi,
I bought a S2 a month ago. The phone is rooted and I currently have a CM Rom (the official one for the i9100 - 10.1.3.i9100 - Android 4.2.2).
The camera always worked fine but after a while the front camera ceased working.
I can the front camera with no problem whatsoever but as soon as I try to use the front camera it does work, the app freezes and says: "The gallexy has stopped bla bla bla..."
I went and searched the web, lots of guys get this fixed by clearing the data/cache or whatever, but nothing has been working for me...
I tried a different ROM, making a totally clean install - but still nothing - I also have already tried a bunch of updates im the original CM Rom (RC, Stable and nightly) and I never get the camera to work nor does it work a single time...
Can you guys help me?
Thanks.
Install another free camera application like camera 360 and see if it is working with that or not?
Sent from my neken N6 using Tapatalk
Nope, only the custom app gives me that error. All other apps arent just able of providing an image - (Skype, Camera Zoom Fx etc..)

May be this thread will help you.

What a really old thread... but yeah, the apk provided there can be installed but when I open it forces close saying the app is crashed.
I've now went to 4.3.1 (latest version of CM) and updated the Gaaaps to the correct version... the problem is still there.
I see this problem on lots of different threads and lots of this people just seem to accept that they have no front camera anymore, lol...
...also been looking for a way to install Samsung Apps on my S2 but it seems to be impossible on a non-stock ROM.
Going all the way back to STOCK and them trying to do something about the camera firmware (trough Samsung Apps) and then going to CM again is something which I'm reticent to do, mostly because I don't even know if this is really a firmware problem...
Back to Stock...

So... I went all the way back to STOCK... I now can input the codes discussed on that thread
Cam FW Ver: SBEF02
Phone FW Ver: TBEC28
It looks like this module has a really bad reputation, still it bothers me... Most people on that post complain about pink dots, lag, shuttering etc... I'm only lacking on a front camera... The focus on the front camera was slow sometimes, yes. But most of the times I had no problem making a movie or taking a picture...
I had a front camera and now I dont...
WTF!?
Any insights and/or advise?
BTW I tested *#0*# (a so called LCD TEST appears) and went I try Front cam it says: "camera failed"...
I picked this phone over the front camera... I'm seriously mad.

Yeah I did. I had access to the front camera on all roms: since stock and then into Cyanogen... When I upgraded to the latest version I also had no problem using the front cam but one day it just went dead.
I've already changed ROM/Kernel a bunch of times so I can pretty much rule out software (?)
I'm really not in the mood to go to Samsung and have all the trouble of losing my phone for a month (in the best case scenario) and having to unroot it and re-stock it again...
The front camera module is a really cheap part and my next step would be to open the damned phone and just retry to reassemble the module it self...
From there I'll order a new one (if I find that my current one is properly assembled and just malfunctioning)...
Am I going too fast? Is there any way to completely rule out a software issue?
Thanks
PS. I need to point out that the camera didn't stopped working "after a ROM change"... It actually stopped working DURING a rom (CM official nightly).
Is it possible to update to CM11 nightly (or any other 4.4 roms... I'm not familiar with the scene) from 4.3 stock?
I did install KNOX, and then removed it. And then the Samsung service reflashed the rom again. So I don't know about it anymore. Didn't install it since then.
My story:
As many of you already did, I also installed the new update. Read below if you are interested (but you probably know all this anyway.)
So. A few days ago Google+ started to eat up my battery. I disabled it in the Application Manager and did not have the updates installed either. But it just started. My usual battery life dropped to only a couple of hours at max.
So I fired up Google and it said I have to install the updates. So I did.
Nothing changed. Then I went into Google+, signed in, and then signed out.
Nothing changed.
So all in all, I have a piece of crappy brick that I can't use anymore.
Bit of a rant: You gotta love this. You buy an overpriced product and they f... you over a thousand times. App makers, Samsung (4.3 crapdate), and EVEN Google. Then why the hell would I even want Android ever again? Seriously. If I would have to buy a phone now, I would pick an iPhone, no matter how much it costs more. This is just unjustifiable. "Hey customer, thanks for buying our product. Now let us make it all crap." ... WHY?
So yeah. Now I have no choice but to lose warranty (which I already used a few times because this is REALLY a crap quality phone). Not that HTC One X was any better, it had a faulty GPU/motherboard like 4 times. (Thanks Nvidia!) ... Sorry guys, I'm just infuriated.
Wish I could just change the phone down. I was thinking about Sony, but if Google can buttrape you anytime, why bother? No guarantee I can just fix it on Sony either.
CM10 is also fine
As I read the nightly can disable all GSM related operations (call/sms), so CM10 is also fine.
I just want to fix my battery life and have a stable phone again.

you should download your firmware from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9305&pcode=0#firmware
wipe everything then go into download mode
Use Odin http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
and after you flash this, do a factory reset within the phone or through its recovery
I just did this with my wife's 9305 and its running like a champ

Thanks for the quick reply.
As I said my phone runs the 4.3 firmware now without any issue.
Except the 4.3 slow encryption and the huge battery drain. The phone got reset like 3-5 times in the past few weeks too.
So now I wonder if I can just install CM10 from 4.3.
But I need some confirmation as I know you cannot downgrade 4.3 for example. (Due to KNOX or whatever.)
Yeah should be no problem. My wife's battery drain happened too. I found the problem was with the SD card. I formatted it with the phone and it seems to be as good as it was on 4.12

Look you can go from any version of cm back to stock. CM doesn't change your boot loader or your modem. The only time your stuck on a version of android is when it comes to stock. Like as a note 3 users we are stuck on KitKat because they updated our bootlaoder. Cm based Roms it doesn't matter.
And you should get an SD card to hold your back ups just in case.
Also if someone helps you on xda it's kind of nice to hit the thanks button. It allow others to see that their comment was useful.
Good luck.
BTW if your new to rooted and ROM installing I suggest reading through the Dev section for the i9305.
Also google your issue word for word and there are tons of android forums out there which may help you.
A lot of times if you open a thread that has been answered a lot they will ignore it or throw words you won't like your way.
So good luck

Yeah if I'm not going to get an answer in a few hours I'll give it a go. It's a brick anyway, heh.
Just did my wife's i9305 today. Moving to cm/omni shouldn't be an issue, however be warned you lose a lot of features like HDMI out and the camera doesn't work as well. I just put the galaxy project ROM on there as the i9305 has the extra GB of ram which keeps stock nice and smooth, also you can debloat if the need be. And if you run into camera issues like I did simply flash stock kernel then reflash rom. Honestly unless you prefer KitKat its a waste of the extra ram your device has as most of it simply will never get used.
Also with wanam xposed you can customize everything! Can't do that with an iPhone. Sorry to hear you have had a bad run but while Samsung's software isn't exactly great the hardware is beast and once you learn how to configure it and unlock its full potential you will see you made the right choice.

Thanks for your reply!
- How worse will the camera get?
- What other important features you know? (HDMI does not really matter to me.)
I do use it a lot, so I don't want to lose everything. (Only use simple picture/HDR modes tho.)
Tried again every kind of combination with Google+ and it's still eating my battery like crazy.
I mean... what the hell is the "Disable" for then? It "almost disables" the app or what? lol.

Topic solved!
Installed CM without any problem. Everything worked flawless.
Now I have a fast (MUCH faster) phone. And all those god-tier features. Holy sh*t I love my phone now.
(I hate you Samsung.)
I've been checking SamFirm for the nougat firmware for a few days, and I finally was able to download the official nougat firmware today. I'll be posting google drive links to odin 3.12 and the nougat firmware in case anyone wants a quick download link for the nougat firmware.
Download link for Odin: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298965444 .
Download link for Nougat FW: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=2C3C1C6245EF11E7963AFA163EE8F90B .
Hit thanks if I helped and enjoy Nougat!
Thank You

Nougat has severely diminished my device
Just a general rant, don't know if this is the correct thread for this, and not asking for assistance, just sharing my experience. I updated to official 7.0 when it was release, have been using it for few weeks. Battery life has been way worse than with 6.0.1, speaker sounds as if it is blown out. and multiple major apps crash constantly (facebook, google play music amazon app store etc). Was on beta before officail and DID NOT have these issues. None of the fixes I have searched for have worked.
Used Odin to downgrade back the other day, immediately noticed improvements in sound, after a day, battery was back to normal and apps are working without crashing.
Dont know if just me/my device, or a known issue with the official sprint release.

Thanks to the OP for posting this, as I will certainly be using it.
And to @Blkjck11, Nougat isn't perfect, and this device CERTAINLY isn't exempt. Nougat has hit my device performance HARD when using GPS, or even switching from a game to the home screen. Battery drain is a problem as well...but even after all of that...I still rather Nougat over MM. The multiwindow has been well refined, and the install/launch times for apps has improved.
Performance certainly varies between devices, and you might not be experiencing the same issues as others.
This is strange, mine the battery improved. Hmmm

Rooted or not rooted? I think not rooted Android 7 is a lot smoother and less intensive. Plus it really comes down to how much you use the phone, what apps are running all the time in the background, etc...
But if you have gone through any steps to "modify" your install of Nougat, always interested to hear. Performance and still maintaining decent battery life is always cool.
Not rooted. Same amount of use as previously on MM just seems a touch better.

That's good... What we all hope for with newer releases of an OS. Better performance and functionality than the last!

Agree. Non root nougat has better battery! Some will argue, but the stability is unmatched.

EDIT... Wrong thread answer
I tried flashing this firmware, but I keep getting an error saying that the MD5 hash is invalid for the AP file (the error message shows up when I try to load the files into odin). I have been getting this same message from the nougat firmware downloaded from multiple locations. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thanks

Yeah can just flash the Odin files for the Marshmallow firmware. But that blanks your phone and is basically like doing a factory reset, just back to 6.0.1
Though I'm surprised that a lot of apps crashed. I'm running stock, for now, and yeah I've noticed battery life is up and down. I happened to have loaded Pokemon GO, and when I run that it just kills my battery. Of I stick with normal messaging apps, web surfing, Tapatalk, YouTube, stuff like that... I seem good. But I also am running my screen at at the 1080p mode, and turned my brightness down a bit. Also disabled all the Sprint stuff and other apps I'm not using, that I'm unable.to uninstall because they are bloatware.
I have noticed my phone getting warm randomly sometimes, reboot usually fixes it (unless I'm gaming). But battery life still seems decent. Then again that's coming from a rooted version of this firmware as well.
Though last thought I can think of, is that I did a fresh clean install of QC1, and then upgraded to QD2. But upgraded always seem to have lingering issues though. But since on QD2 I think battery is better than QC1, so we'll see.

Is it possible to roll back incremental updates? ie from QE1 back to QD2. My wife's phone received the QE1 OTA update and since then her wifi has not worked and it also says CUSTOM rather than OFFICIAL. I have not rooted the phone. I really don't care about the CUSTOM part, just trying to get the wifi working again. I've tried factory resets and loading the QE1 firmware via ODIN and resetting the device completely with that method at least 3 times now. Still no dice. I'm thinking it's a software issue and maybe rolling the update back to a prior version might fix it? Sprint won't work with me because they say KNOX was tripped because I rooted it (which I didn't...).

Yes. Use odin and flash all files as normal, but use home_csc instead of csc. Good Luck.

Quick question, the QAA firmware available here should work?
