Probleme with the gyroscope. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys so I used the return to bell stock method from the General Section of the forum after coming off the Paranoidandroid rom. I noticed that the calibration for the gyroscope does not let the ball move at all and to top it off the phone has difficulty in getting back into portrait mode. Does anyone have a solution for this? Maybe it was a bad flash or maybr some file is missing any help?

Did you restore any data to the device following the flash ?
And did you wipe the device prior to the restore of the rom ?
both of the above issues could/would have an effect on a clean restore to stock, especially when running an odin or kies restore, with old data still present on the device.
just a start point I guess.....g

[Q] Restoring my Vibrant back to stock

So I just installed Nerov4.1 which I must say I'm loving. However, my curiosity is making me want to check out axura's rom as well. I've read and seem some videos that state you should restore the phone to stock mode before installing another ROM. Is this true or can I just install another ROM through ROM Manager without having to do so? If I should restore my vibrant back to stock what is the best and easiest method to do it? I just want to make sure I'm doing the steps correctly when switching from ROM to ROM. Thanks for helping a newbie out fellas!

Thanks for the response but do I have to go back to stock mode each time I want to try a new ROM??

I'm very much just a noob, but as far as I'm aware you MUST disable voodoo. Vodoo comes automatically switched on in 4.1. If you are going back to stock this must be done.
I think you can go into clockwork recovery and turn it off. Or there's an app in the market that will be able to confirm/ switch it on or off I think.

I wrote steps in the noob guide... but as I pointed out there also, you do not always need to go back to stock.
I would disable voodoo (just to be safe)
make a backup
reboot
go back to cwr
factory wipe/wipe data/wipe dalvik (advanced)
flash the rom
reboot and wait
let the phone sit for 10 minutes
reboot
restore your apps (titanium Backup, assuming you use this app)
reboot
enable voodoo if not already
reboot
If you notice any issues then you should ODIN back to stock the flash the rom.. there may be "ghosts" from the previous rom causing the issue... it's a best practice, but absolutely not needed.

You mean that all data from internal disk will be erased, inculding the titanium backups?
Thank you in advance!
im wondering the smae thing.ive been flashing a lot of roms and havent had to go back to stock but i know its only a matter of time.if you find a method that works great for you please let me know
when we install new roms doesnt the process wipe the system data and dalvik cashe.why is it better to use your method.im just a curios noob
no.. all your pics, videos, etc will still be there unless you do a format yourself.

Corrupted Root - How do i restart again?

hi guys,
i've tried looking for a solution, but have not found one.
After rooting, installing roms, themes etc, i have come to the conclusion, that my rooted s2 has become corrupt i.e. (either kernel or rom). The reason i know is that i have a fault with CWM and that is it won't detect sd cards. I have now tried 3 different microsd cards and none can be mounted, even though it shows "sd card mounted". Yet when i try to install a .zip file, nothing is found.
Rather than wasting time trying to figure out what the problem is, i'd like to restart ALL OVER again. That means actually getting the phone un-rooted, back to stock and then re-root and install custom roms again.
My question is how do i restart all over again?
If you can, boot into download mode and flash stock firmware with Odin.

thanks aiancalandorn, but that will NOT wipe the phone...i need total wipe...how do i go about doing that?
stock firmware is wipe version only.....it will wipe all data.
could u pls explain rohit how i do that? what software/method?
Sounds more likely that you're using CWM recovery incorrectly.

thats the guide i previously followed. But if you look in that first post, it clearly states:-
"It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
You will lose root so just re-root with the guide below"
I want to know how to do a full-wipe.

thanks for ur advice guys. For now, i have managed to setup checkrom+dk with ics 1.6 theme. i stopped using the phone last night approx 12 midnight - 100% fully charged. I've woken up and checked it at 10:45am....battery shows 99%, so thats hardly anything.
The only issue i have noticed with checkrom/dk is that there is a lag when pressing buttons or scrolling through applications...what do you guys recommend to fix this without putting a big drain on the battery?

Get my phone ready for new ROM

Hello guys.
What is the best way to wipe my phone, so its completely ready for new ROM?
Sorry if its alrdy out there. But hopefully you can help, im a bit new.
There area couple of things I would do and they are as follows
1. Do a backup of all your apps with Titanium or some other program like that
2. Do a full Nandroid back up of your current rom just incase you soft brick your phone.
3. Back up your EFS folder once that is gone its pretty hard to get it back. I have never had a problem but others have.
4. Make sure you wipe your cache/user data with CWM and also dalvik cache. This is to insure you dont have any issues with your old rom conflicting with the new one its sucks I have done this even if it says NO-WIPE rom.
5. Install your new rom whatever that may be

In addition to the steps, you can also format the system and emmc, If you want a clean slate. Just remember to place New ROM and nandroid backup on ext SD card before formatting
I was a bit hasty when flashing, and did not get a original rom backup(nandroid). Am I completely ****ed now? My current rom works just fine, just wondering if my next flash softbricks it. Could I back up my current rom and return to that?
Also, if I flash a original sammy rom from the original rom thread(the one I presume my phone came with), will I be able to update through the built in sammy function(Search for updates)?
Sorry for hijacking, but this thread seemed suitable rather than starting a new.
Cheers!

Sure, any backup of a working ROM is good. You can always pull an official firmware from Intratech's thread to flash back to stock if you need to in the future.

Maybe. I see a Norwegian flag in your profile. If you flash back to stock, it MAY work for you. Doesn't for me, but that's because I'm in the US, and no one officially carries this phone here.. so neither Kies nor OTA work for updates for me.

No, not suitable at all.
Hijacking bigtime and not using "search" either - good start, you'll not be popular if you carry on like this...
Since like me you're in Norway and can't sleep either I'll try to help - no links though, you gotta search:
If you're careful with flashing the softbrick chances are small. Yes, you can back up your current ROM.
No, you can't update via "search for updates" on the phone. It's an OTA feature that's never been implemented in Gingerbread - at least not here in Norge.
And you can't "presume" what your original firmware/ROM was - you either know it or you don't.
To be honest, you don't sound like you're ready for custom ROMs yet. I'd do a lot more reading here if I were you.
Lykke til.

Do you mean format /system? I'm thinking if you format /system, you'll have to re-flash the phone's firmware.

That does a full wipe, whilst keeping root.
If you change Roms, you will lose your root.
But when you install a custom kernel, most auto root anyway.
Finally words of advice, ALWAYS be sure what your doing if flashing anything!
Don't rush into Anything until YOU KNOW what your doing.
Not sure about something, ask. (dont guess or assume)

Nandroid Backup from one Note to another Note

Hi,
I did a nandroid backup from one Note and use CW to restore it to another Note. Now my new Note is extremely slow and it reboots all the time. I tried doing a reset factory as well as use odin to reinstall the stock fw. I also install several different roms. I made sure I did a factory wipe and wipe cache each time. I also fix permission and follow the direction for each rom. Still having issues with the phone. Any help or point me in the right direction is a great help.
Thanks

You might want to try Darkside super wipe and just start fresh. If that goes well and the phone is stable, you can later use advanced restore to restore just your data. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567429Link confirming Darkside works for i717 and you can follow that link to the script or Google [TOOL]Darkside ...

Also, did you previously play around with the radio on your old Note? If so, than when you restore system from nandroid you are bringing back the old radio. A factory reset won't help with that. If all else fails, try to flash the original radio. Check Allgamer's thread for that.

Edit - Nevermind - I found a thread in Q&A section confirming it works.

I take it that it is confirmed that Darkside super wipe works on our Note?
I followed the quoted thread and compared the output of my "mount" command to the one from Skyrocket, and it is very similar but not the same. So it would be great to know if someone had tried the script on the Note, and what changes had to be made to the script (if any) prior to running it.
I took the backup from my wifes note and used it on mine. Reset and its working just fine

+1 I backed up my phone prior to exchanging it due to defect. All i had to do was restore the nandroid backup on the new one.

Possible corrupt CWM backup on android

Hi
a couple of weeks ago I tried to flash a rom to my Samsung S GT i9000 Android 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD.XXJW4, I had root and went into cwm recovery and made a backup first. This is a bit hazy now as it was a while ago and I have tried so many things since then, but I think something must have happened during the back up??. Bottom line is the ROM didn't work and I had to reinstalled the back up (and have done so many times).
I have tried all different Roms from ice cream to CM but nothing works.
My problem is that every time I do a recovery of the backup it really causes problem with the phone.
If I try and install any programme from playstore or market (both via the phone or pc) it immediately closes when I try and open it up saying it unexpectedly closed. Shut down the phone and restart it - yep the app has now gone from the phone. Same thing happens with APKs.
I have tried uninstalling the back up via windows explorer, ADB, clockwordmod recovery a file manager on my phone. Doesn't matter what I do it is always there when I start the phone back up. If I uninstall any apps through settings / applications / manage applications, turn off the phone then back on and they are back.
I have tried to clear it by installing stock roms but the back up and all its files and apps etc are still there. I have tried factory formatting the phone via settings/ privacy, I have tried using the numbers and hashes on the keypad, I have carried out full wipes in recovery and the dalvik cache etc.
I have made further backups but they are deleted from the phone just like the apps.
If I take a photo or video and close my phone down they are deleted.
If I access Facebook and update the news feed to the current date, when I restart my phone it is back to the last thing I looked at prior to my backup.
I think the problem is that the phone is using the backup some how and this is stopping me from deleting it. Something like trying to uninstall a system file on a computer when it is running.
I think I have watched just about every video ever created on this topic and every thread on the internet to no avail.
Bottom line is the phone works to an extent. I can phone, text, use the internet etc but cannot install or delete any apps.
I would be really grateful if anyone out there has any ideas that I could try
Do a complete restore with Odin/hiemdall then reroot and install ROM, its hard to say what happened to your phone, but a compete install (with pit) should fix you right up

you have to format everything(system, data, cache, dalvic cache) using cwm before flashing with odin to get a fresh stock

So in Odin/heimdall you flashed all partitions and pit? And the phone still didn't return to stock? Then the issues you're having sounds suspiciously like hardware, but I can't think of a hardware issue that could cause this.
Are there various stock versions Sammy put out? As in can you try an older/newer one?

Not really, if pit is checked then all partitions should get formatted, but it wouldn't hurt to do so.

That's to all for your replies. I am in Turkey at present on holiday but I am trying your suggestions, I did flash a pit with the repartition box ticked but still no joy. I took some roms out on a usb stick but think I need to try some others. Problem is I don't have a great download speed at present.
