how to read altitude from the LSP331AP pressure sensor - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how can we read the data from the STMicroelectronics LSP331AP pressure sensor in our Galaxy S III phones? The one just mentioned on Engadget.
I work with UAV applications so having an accurate barometric pressure reading at the ground station is very important. And if I can read baro from my phone instead of buying a dedicated piece of hardware, that just makes my GS III even cooler than it was previously.
So does anyone know to read this value? Does it already report this to the phone to correct the GPS altitude (which is probably 100s of meters off, lol)? I'm assuming that the altitude reported in apps like Google Maps is probably pulled straight from the GPS..

Gps positioning should have a spherical accuracy error, so if it shows 5m that would be 5m in every direction.
(At least afaik)

Download S baro from Samsung apps or more services and do an internet sync on the app, that works for me

My wife calls it a Pop Tart

I would imagine every new Note owner goes through a period where people comment on the size of the note. My daughter posted on Facebook, that "I'm out of control." My wife calls it a Pop Tart. I'd like to think they're all just a bit jealous that I can read ebooks and watch TV or movies without squinting.
Anyway, a few rookie questions if you wouldn't mind:
I'm running Only One on my ATT I717 and love it, but trying to learn about modems. Is there a tutorial?
Also, is there a good GPS progam? I had TomTom on my 3GS but doesn't look like it's offered for Android.
Thanks
I prefer Navigon for gps. Most feautures and best forming. 2 others to look at are Ndrive and Sygic. What do you need to know about modems? Not much to tell unless you are running the phone on T-mobile. Looks like you might be since you mentioned 3gs. If you do then this thread might get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573568
Thanks. I had an IPhone 3GS with TomTom.
Is 4G the same as LTE on ATT.
There's a thread about boosting data speed and they refer to UCLE2, 5, etc. Does this apply to ATT, or only T-Mobile?
I've heard a bit about Navigon and it seems solid but the reviews it gets don't seem all that reassuring for me to spend that kind of money. Google's navigation app has worked great for me and does more than enough. I've also used Waze. It's got a clean interface and nice traffic info plus it's free!

4G and LTE are totally different. 4G is an improved version of 3G. LTE is another technology. Not all areas have LTE.

If you have a data connection the Google is great. Waze looks ok but it needs data also and has all that social integration. Guessing this app is hard on the Note's battery. How does it run for you? If you want an offline gps app then you need to fork out the dough. No app is perfect for everyone and reviews are tough on paid gps apps. Navigon gets it done especially when you are in an area with no data.
I use Map Quest for gps works great and it's free.

Waze hasn't taxed my battery too bad but I can see how it would become a bit of a hog. True, I could do without the social integration as well but it isn't too bad. I've since resorted soley on the Google navigation app. I hear you about the offline capabilities, Navigon would be nice to have when data isn't available. I rarely don't have access to data so that hasn't posed much of a problem for me with gps. You're right, the choice definitely depends on the person.

Where ever I am around ppl I don't know or friends that havent seen my phone yet whenever I get it out the immediately ask if its a tablet or a phone...I'm kinda starting to get annoyed lol.
I was using Google maps walking navigation today...first time on this phone...on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills. I know the accurancy is great (for whatever reason ICS is taking longer to get a lock), but I was stunned that the arrow was precisely where I was walking but the compass is crazy sensitive, looked like I was walking sideways at times.
So yea that's my little non helpful blurb on the subject...I should probably go to sleep since its 3am and I'm ranting...

[Q] What App Turns off display when covered?

Hi guys, Ive heard about an app that will turn the display of the touchpad off when the display is covered (using official HP folio case). I am using the latest official CM9 nightly, I've tried searching for it but to no avail, any help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Liam
There isn't one, because it would constantly have to be on, and enabled, and scanning, so it would most likely kill your battery more than it would help.
There's a thread about this in the Q&A section asking the very same question, and that's the answer given there. However, if you can find a way to make it work, please feel free.
Actually there is its called smart screen of if I remembered correctly and no it does not take as much battery

Thanks for that I've just downloaded it and will give it a go and report back.
Many thanks
Liam
I sit corrected. Thank you for that. I'm glad to be proven wrong.
Did anybody get this to work? I've downloaded it and so far hasn't worked .....either that or the proximity sensor on CM9 isn't working
I couldn't get it to work either, I tried to apps both similar in nature but neither would work. Would be good if anyone has any luck getting it to work to post their set up on here so others could try it. I tried it on stock official nightly.

The app uses a proximity sensor usually located next to the earphone of most cellphones. To my knowledge the touchpad has no proximity sensor so it won't work. Very useful app on any device though.

You sure it doesn't operate using the camera? I remember one which operated using the camera hence would not work on cm9

the touchpad has a proximity sensor....its in the right corner of the screen the side where the camera is, visible if you hover a led flashlight you'll see a circular red thing glinting.

hit thanks if that helped
the description for the app says it uses the prox sensor.....my guess is the sensor's drivers aren't on android for the touchpad yet
I don't think it's functional in android. It's not been a major priority. I tried a few apps that leverage the sensor, but to no avail.

I read this the other day and decided to use one called Case Switch. It uses the light sensor/ proximity sensor to determine if the light is low enough to turn off. Anyway, been using it for several days, love it! I recommend setting your lower min at 48lux. This setting allows for the screen not to turn off under evening low light settings. When I got this on Sunday the 24th there was a free demo and the pro version was $1.00.
Like I say, it works very well and its an excellent addition to or already amazing tabs.

I don't see any app in the marketplace called "Case Switch."
Edit: I'm assuming you meant Case Sensor? That app works perfectly for the touch pad.
Touchpad has NO proximity sensor, just an ambient light sensor for auto brightness. The small purple dot next to the volume rockers.

how accurate is the barometer in S3?

Hey y'all!
How accurate is the barometer in S3 supposed to be? Especially interested in the altitude readings. How come do I see variation between my phone and my friends in the same location?

AFAIK there is no barometer sensor inside the s3 and the altitude is anyway something which is acquired by GPS and/or magnetic field sensor.
Probably it differs, because one of you had gps disabled or you locked different satellites.
Also are both phones gs3?

[Q] Use the Gear Fit as standalone

Dear Community,
i'd like to know if someone uses the Gear Fit as standalone device? Is it possible, or do i have to connect it certain times a day/week with a supported samsung device in order to keep it going? Does the Fit also displays the fitness statistics of several days?
Thanks for your answers,
brgds, zack
You do need to initialize it when you first get it so you would need the fit app at first but technically you could use it by itself afterwards. I feel it has enough options and self tracking to be a stand alone device.

I'm getting rid of my Samsung phone but want to keep the Fit. I just want to use the watch feature as a stand alone. But when I disconnected the fit from my phone, the time went off by a few hours. Is there anyway to adjust the time without the phone?
