Hey y'all!
How accurate is the barometer in S3 supposed to be? Especially interested in the altitude readings. How come do I see variation between my phone and my friends in the same location?

AFAIK there is no barometer sensor inside the s3 and the altitude is anyway something which is acquired by GPS and/or magnetic field sensor.
Probably it differs, because one of you had gps disabled or you locked different satellites.
Also are both phones gs3?

There is a barometer in the S3.

I've heard that too, but the app from samsung apps doesn't seem to use it.

This is very late, probably doesnt matter anymore, but still:
Have you seen this test on youtube, S3 compared to an aircraft barometer..

I just received my prime today and am very happy. I read in several websites that the prime had a barometer but it does not show my stats in weatherbug. Can anyone confirm that it does indeed have a barometer?
Try Elixir app. It can show every sensors built-in.

There's no barometer sensor in the Prime. Sorry.
I believe you are thinking of the phone the nexus prime that has a barometer in it.

Bingo.. used to help the GPS in the Nexus (though not like we couldnt use that)
how can we read the data from the STMicroelectronics LSP331AP pressure sensor in our Galaxy S III phones? The one just mentioned on Engadget.
I work with UAV applications so having an accurate barometric pressure reading at the ground station is very important. And if I can read baro from my phone instead of buying a dedicated piece of hardware, that just makes my GS III even cooler than it was previously.
So does anyone know to read this value? Does it already report this to the phone to correct the GPS altitude (which is probably 100s of meters off, lol)? I'm assuming that the altitude reported in apps like Google Maps is probably pulled straight from the GPS..
Gps positioning should have a spherical accuracy error, so if it shows 5m that would be 5m in every direction.
(At least afaik)

Download S baro from Samsung apps or more services and do an internet sync on the app, that works for me

Hi guys,
I'm really impressed by motion functions in Samsung, including double tap to top. However, I don't know whether those kinds of function really drain much battery or not?
Many have said that the flagship keeps working in order to identify when you tap to the top of it. Others contradicted it and stated that it just works when needed.
Does anybody explain more to me? :crying:
I use the feature alot but never had any noticable battery drainage so i think you are fine.
Its not a feature that is constantly in use so wont drain alot
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I also don't see any noticeable change in battery when using it a lot.
So maybe it's not on constantly?

It means a sensor must be active whenever the screen is on. It will affect battery sure, but as to how negligible that is, who knows?
No never had such issue with my s3

As far as I know, this feature only works in Contacts and E-mail.
So I think only activate the sensors when you open these apps otherwise the sensors should maintain inactive

I got twenty satellites per gps status (the app). Never saw anything like it.

It's freakishly accurate. I was doing a number 2, playing with my phone with the GPS on. When I opened the map, I had a birds eye view of myself pooping.
insanely accurate and locks in the second i open the app. my galaxy nexus would struggle sometimes to get a lock but this thing is locked before i even open the app lol
Does anybody know if it possible to use this gps kernel on other phones cause my other phones dont have a gps this damn good if so how to I copy the kernel of the gps on here?

I've only messed with it once so far. It was very quick to find my position. I'm looking forward to using it when I go visit family in a week. Since I got about 24 hours drive one way, it will get some good road use.
I just got my S4 and whenever im in my car and using the phone. My radar goes off. It shows there's a Laser nearby. I tried turning off all the extra stuff on the S4, but it still happens. Had no problem before with my Galaxy Nexus.
Anyone else having this problem??
its definitely one of the sensors tripping the detector maybe?
i have an escort 9500ix and i dont have any problems with it setting it off.

Sounds like the inferred blaster is setting off your radar...you can't turn that off....not sure if its always active or not.

Dang it, i just took a couple of friends in my car to lunch. They have a S4 from Sprint and AT&T. But my radar does not go off when they use their phones.
Try turning off adaptive display. In display. It uses the front facing ira.

The s4 has two infrared. One on the top of the device next to the mic. And one on the front display. Go to settings display and screen mode.

Nope it did not fix it.
I think i have turned off every sensor and its still doing it.
To test you phone infa red sensor. You can use any camera and hold it over the sensors. If it's going off you can see the sensor on the camera. You can also test it to see if it's working this way too.

OK ill give it a shot.
Its weird my friends AT&T and Sprint S4 doesn't set it off.
My phone does this too when I hold it at a certain angle lol. I can make it alarm on cue. I'll try turning off adaptive display next time I'm in my car.
I thought my V1 was on the verge of dying.

Do you have Verizon S4??
Mine is still doing it, the sensor to the left of the camera is causing it. If i place my finger over it. It stops setting off my V1.
I have turned off every single sensor and it still does it.
