Hi,
I have previously tried to flash a wrong kernel into my phone and caused the imei to become null and my s3 to lose all signal.
In my desperation, i have tried all sorts of different roms in imei retrieval methods but I was not able to get anything back.
I managed to get my imei back after pas a technician to do that for me.
However, ever since, when i went to the setting > update, there was update found but when i tried to install, it brings me error msg that 'signature verification failed'.
i get the following error msg.
assert failed: getprop('ro.product.device') == 'm0' || getprop('ro.product.device') == 'm0'
E:Error in /cache/fota/update.zip
(status 7)
When i reboot, i get the error msg 'Failed to update firmware. Try again using PC software (Kies) or visit a samsung service centre'
The current firmware version that is written on Kies is I9300ZSALF1/I9300OZSALF1/I9300XXLEF/I9300ZSALF1 (XXX)
I tried kies but kies says my device does not support software upgrading via kies.
I am not able to flash any rom into the phone, i tried stock roms and i tried custom roms like CM9 and 10.
I have tried using both ODIN and CWM to flash and always end up with having a phone that hanged during the bootloading phase. i restart and it stills brick, all i could do is to reboot in CWM and restore backup
Please help me because i am currently on ICS I9300XXLEF and it is not my stock ROM and there is no way for me to update the phone rom. I would like to get my phone back to a stock ROM that is Singapore based at least i can continue to update my firmware if there are any updates.
I am giving all the information about my phone as much as I can but if there is anymore information you folks need to now to be able to help me, please let me.
All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Ronald
Need to flash a stock rom via ODIN in download mode. Plenty of tuts on here for that as well as a tut to redo your imei. Do you have a backup of your efs?? Thats where your imei is stored, if you have that just go into CWM and restore backup and sorted.
Did you do a factory reset from recovery after flashing with Odin?
From what you are writing it seems you are able to flash using Odin, so I suggest finding Odin image for uour phone stock firmware, flash using Odin (vol down+home+power) then reboot to recovery (vol up+home+power) and do a factory reset, reboot and I think it will boot.
I would boot to CWM recovery Mounts and Storage Format cache system and data .
Flash stock rom via Odin .
assert failed: getprop('ro.product.device')
means wrong firmware or wrong phone or wrong build prop on phone .

Hi....first of all got you an EFS folder backup? If yes try restore EFS ( copy folder with root expplorer..i do this with s2 and got my IMEI back)
second : try an hard reset with this code *2767*3855# ( remove sim and sd card)
and try to flash a stock firmware in download mode with ODIN procedure.
Hope its helpful:good:
hi all,

i have tried auto update, reflashing the same rom, reflashing an updated rom, flashing jelly bean, hard reset, soft reset and everything else recommended.
But it still does not work, it generally is a signature verification error. how do i get the signature back?

I am XXKI8, and I tried to flash some of the custom roms my phone is getting stuck on Boot logo. And when I go in recovery it says E:\ cant mount system/cache and some other things.
I cant restore backup too...I have to odin it back. this happened with Batista, Touch X power and on Wanamlite.
But when I flashed rarity it worked fine. any Idea why this error is coming up.

Try to do a factory reset before flashing a Custom ROM.
And maybe you need to do a hard reset (*2767*3855#) after flashing?!
As this will wipe your internal SD card, be sure to backup everything you need before.
Good luck !
I am always doing Factory reset, Wipe Partition and after flash Wipe dalvik. But this is happening. Also, if my fon is not booting up so how I can Hard reset with those code after flashing.
I was on vibrant and I am very much familiar with this flashing things. Just its not happening this time.
This problem is not going away. Today I tried to flash Villain rom. But still I cant boot back. I noticed when flashing, my progress bar runs for 1/4th and after that it says installation complete. and when I reboot it cant boot beyond boot logo. And when I go back in recovery it says cant mount E:\system\cache and etc.
Please help. I have odin back to stock and re-rooted so many times that my custom binary count is 9.
I never faced this problem with VIBRANT.

I had similar issue with as you, i'll post my fix ( or atleast how i think i fixed it) ====>
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!

When I tried to do the same I cant do it as it says E: cant mount Cache/System etc..
Than I had to go back to Stock. Flashing stock via odin is not problem at all. Even XXKI8 non wipe version also am able to flash & boot up without any issue. Only am not able to flash custom rom through CWM. I think its not getting flashed properly.

Yes. I said before also, odined back to stock is no problem at all. I flashed KI3 (which has all three files) + KI8 which is a single file, with no issue.
Whenever I am trying to flash a custom rom I am getting stucked on boot screen. Than I have to ODIN back to STOCK.
Hope this clears your doubts.
Just to make sure. What recovery version do you have? CWM from e.g CF-Root. Or Clockwork mod from Rom Manager.
Be aware of the difference.

hmm.... Try downgrading to XWKI4,root again and flash a custom kernel like ninpho or speedmod, this would most likely solve it..
cheers!

Sir I tried your method too. But whenever I am flashing a custom kernel via odin my fon is getting stuck on boot screen with yellow triangle.
So after increasing my binary count to 17 now, I am back on Stock XXKI8 with CFroot.

thats wierd...i wonder what you're doing wrong.. type "*#1234#" and write the versions of what you have.
PDA: I9100XWKI8
Phone: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100OXXKI2
Build Info: Wed Sep 28 20:51:36 KST 2011
Also, I noticed when I boot into CWM Recovery and go to Wipe Dalvik Cache I get a mesage E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] (this is before performing actual wipe) but when I wipe dalvik catch it says Dalvik Catch wiped.
One more thing I like to share - first I flashed STOCK KI3 then I noticed it says cant find E:/System/(some folder for CSC which I dont remember exactly) and it says could not install the CSC. Than I upgraded to KI8 same error for CSC came.
now again I tried to flash siyah kernel 2.0 through CWM, still same problem I am stuck on boot logo.
When I go back to recovery it takes a lot more time than usual and following errors I get
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open/cache/recovery/last_log
and when I tried to wipe data/factory reset it says
E: cant mount /sdcard/
Even I tried mounting SD card in recovery but its says error mounting sd card.
Please please help.....I never faced this problem with my VIBRANT.
try xxki3 again, but this time make sure you use a 3 tar method i.e PDA, MODEM, CSC... dont use a 1 tar pacjage or you will get stuck at boot agian.
Well of course you never had the problem with your vibrant, you weren't flashing the same packages.
Try flashing Litening or some other complete firmware that has an Odin flashable package, then use that as a base.
Hopefully you haven't selected the "repartition" option in Odin at any stage and mucked up the tables.

OK am here again. I tried Flashing the Litening rom 6.1 through odin. It got succeded but stuck on Boot with yellow triangle.
Also, I noticed when I boot into CWM Recovery and go to Wipe Dalvik Cache I get a mesage E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] (this is before performing actual wipe) but when I wipe dalvik catch it says Dalvik Catch wiped even if I press back button it says Dalvik Cache wiped.
I dont know whats happening...this way I ll remain stuck on STOCK and soon I have to hang my self......
Hope someone can help me with this.
I totally formatted my phone including the internal sd card because I wanted to start fresh.
Now, when I flash a rom I get the yingyang logo blinking and nothing happens.
I downloaded an official firmware and flashed it in odin, and that worked.
So I decided to flash the custom rom I've used for a long time, but the minute i reboot the phone after flashing, the same thing happens.
And now, when I try to reflash the stock rom, i get a MD5 error in odin. Even though its the same firmware that worked earlier.
My phone is useless now, and I cant seem to get it up an running.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
EDIT:
Tried to reflash the custom rom with stock kernel and when the i9300 logo appears it hangs for a little while, then I'm back into CWM with the following message:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Here :
Download a good copy of the stock rom from sammobile.com
Flash it in Odin
Go to recovery and wipe data+cache
Start your rom
Flash CF-Root or however you want to re-root + CWM
Flash your custom rom
Wipe in recovery
Should do the trick + fix the log error.

Thanks for the quick reply
But the problem is that I cannot flash the stock rom in odin because of a md5 error, which is weird since its the same file I used earlier today.
Luckily I had another ROM on my ext sd. tried to flash that now and that worked, so must have been something wrong with the other rom.
But what to about the stock rom issue?
MAybe try to download another stock rom?

The file was corrupted/changed in some way so the MD5 doesn't match anymore.
MD5 sums are often used to compare files to see whether it's the same exact file. If that happens just redownload it, bigger downloads = higher chance of corrupting. I recommend SamMobile for all Samsung related stock FW.
P.S Renaming the file changes it's MD5. I know right?

I did use SamMobile for downloading. The only thing I did afterwards, was moving it from my desktop to another file location.
Then the md5 error came up, so I downloaded the same file again, but this time I tried to flash it from the download location, but the same error
But now my CM10 rom work, so at least my phone is up and running again. Won't bother for now about the stock rom.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it
Hello, I wanted to add my previous Issue I had before running into this problem.
I currently need to fix a issue ASAP as I am selling my s3 soon. I tried to unroot my s3 and reset it to factory settings but flashed the Verizon firmware on my phone and not the international version firmware. The flash failed in Odin and now I am stuck at a screen saying the Firmware upgrade encountered an error. Please try again. I tried to go into download and recovery mode multiple times and cannot do so. I assume is bricked or soft bricked? Can I use a usb jig to get into download mode?

After purchasing a USB JIG, I can now get into Download mode, but the issue is every time I try to install a stock firmware, I am stuck in Recovery mode. The binary count on the phone says "18", but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Please help, thank you. My phone is the I9300.
So the stock ROM installs without errors?
Have you done a factory reset from recovery afterwards?
This should be fixable unless the firmware you flashed also included a bootloader

No, the stock ROM cannot install, every time I try to install the ROM, it gets stuck in Odin says "Recovery". I cannot get into the phone because it will still show the firmware error if I unplug the usb jig from the usb download mode.
Have you tried Kies if you want to return to stock, start Kies and go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the instructions on the screen, this is supposed to completely reset the phone and install the latest firmware version for that phone

If you don't have a nandroid backup, then you will need to reflash the stock firmware via Odin and start over.

There are a zillion guides around here, YouTube, etc on how it works. It's basically the same for almost any Samsung.
Download the appropriate firmware for your phone / carrier / region
Install drivers, if needed
Open Odin as Admin
Plug phone in Download Mode to PC
Odin should register phone as COM:XX where XX could be any numbers
Load the firmware in the PDA or AP slot, depending on which Odin version being used
After file is checked, hit Start
Wait patiently
Phone should reboot on it's own
If phone bootloops after successful flash, then reboot to the stock recovery and perform a factory data reset
