I am currently running Real ICS r5.1 on my SK17i using Stock Kernel as I cannot unlock my bootloader and this is my battery life which is rubbish. My screen brightness is usually at 0% and never higher than 25% for more than a minute so i a) don't understand why my screen takes up so much battery (timeout is on 30 secs) and secondly why the media server takes up so much battery
I want an ICS ROM so if anyone has either something to do to save my battery (e.g. disabling media server permanently till I need it) or making my screen take less battery or if they can tell me a ICS ROM which is good on battery life as in at least 15-20hrs (I have seen people get 2 days?)
Thanks a lot
P.S. My 3G and WiFi are never on at the same time, Bluetooth, GPS not used for more than a minute

You can try NeroICS it has a good batery life or Smultronic(Don't sure if need Unlocked Bootloader or no) or even the stock rom with some tweaks it should be help.
real ics and real ics lite for me are awful with the battery dried like 20% with no use and thats not funny :/ I'm on Smultronic with Mesa kernel 1.8 and it's perfect
PD: You can unlock bootloader if you want the best perfomance on your device

Will have a look at that Smultronic as i have seen it mentioned in other thread thanks a lot
And I would defo unlock the bootloader but I cannot, when I check the option for it in the Service Menu it says no so S1 Tool doesn't unlock it
Thanks a lot for the suggestions thought mate
EDIT: Both of the ROMS you mentioned require unlocked BL, anyone know of a good ICS ROM that can be used with locked BL with good battery?

realICSlite_r4 last long on mine, with stock rom and using walkman app all day at work (probably about 5 hours use) i have 20% by the end of the day, with real ics i have 35%

I've used MiniCMSandwich Lite on my locked bootloader (before I unlocked it) and it seems to do good. Although, don't quote me for that since the way we use our phones would vary.

Anyone know what this Mediaserver is taking all this battery?
Will make a new thread of it I think to find out as that is taking a lot of my battery for no reason?
Thanks

Use a taskkiller. It will save more battery, I think.

Stay at Gingerbread. That's easy.

Sent from my WT19i using xda premium

I have SK17i in stock rom 4.0.4 and root in standby it takes 0.4-0.5% /h, it's very strange to drain your battery so much in my phone when i listen music in full volume it drains ~4.5% / h

I listen to music using the Walkman app but not for that long, maybe an hour a day? I don't expect half the battery to disappear, especially with the screen off?

1) Skype, twitter, facebook apps are all battery eaters, so would advice u to restrict there internet access with their respective settings.
2) install a good battery monitor app from stores like Better Battery Stats and see what wakelocks r causing the battery to drain so quickly
The fuel gauge gets confused or whatever you call it often when rebooting or flashing stuff. Wait for a few minutes, don't use the phone, let the battery recalibrate, and you'll see that the battery level will rise again, though slowly.

Basically, you would need to flash the ruu. Let's see... ah! I have one
RUU4.03.605.2
This ruu will need to be renamed PH98IMG.zip and placed on the root of your sd card.
CAUTION!!!! Flashing the ruu will wipe your internal memory so back up your stuff! It wall also remove your custom recovery and you will no longer have root access. However, you will still be S-OFF (if you are S-OFF).
If you are not S-OFF and are just using an unlocked bootloader, then you will need to relock your bootloader before flashing the ruu.
You need to gather up the latest Amon Ra, which I also happen to have: RaRecovery3.15.zip
If you are S-off you can fastboot flash recovery RaRecovery3.15.img After your RUU stuff is done. If not S-OFF, you will do the same with it and rename it to PH98IMG and place on the root of your sd card but only after the ruu flashing process!
Afer all preparations have been made, you flash the RUU in Hboot. It is very critical that you have the phone charged up enough to do this. Anything you do in hboot runs the risk of bricking so make sure you do enough research before you attempt it. ONLY YOU are responsible for any damages done to your phone. The RUU will flash the latest Global build along with the latest radio and kernel. Ask around if you get lost, everyone is willing to help.

I understand the launcher can be frustrating. Especially how it appears when you first boot up. Take some time to explore it and set it up. it supports pinch zoom also. You can always go to the market and redownload the launcher of your choice.
There is no boot animation, so your first boot will hang on the splash screen for a couple minutes so don't be alarmed.
When you first boot into the rom, nothing activates. So you will need to turn on Mobile networks yourself under quick settings (this is a 1 time thing).
I wanted to leave this rom a a mystery for today and then update the op tomorrow but I felt at least these few things needed to be addressed so you guys wouldn't think you had a dud or bricked your phones
Enjoy. Probably the best battery life you'll get until the new sourced kernel is built for AOSP.

I mean infrastructure tethering e.g. using phone to tether off another.

you can download wifi tether for android 3.1 BETA14 see it on the downloads tab.
though there is no wpa_supplicant support. but tether still works. tried on ics.
Default wifi tether doesn't work for the device I want to connect.
Maybe because it uses Ad hoc to connect I think?

It seems that turning auto rotate off causes freezes. I know, crazy, right? I also don't like it but it's better then crashing. No one knows what causes this bug.
That said I'm not sure if this bug applies to this rom. You can either test or wait for the creator to answer.

Same position as you, just dirty flashed 1.6 from 1.5 and immediately flashed this kernel after i booted up first.. Seems like my battery is draining bad but idk if its due to new rom, kernel, use, or the fact that i now have 1%battery mod i can actually see the percentage going down lol

Awesome work! I loved PGM on the GNex and this makes me happy haha. I'll chime in with battery life tomorrow. Do you guys use power save?

Yeah i do.. Im going to see what its like tomorrow. There could be a number of reasons why im having issues, if i even am at all. Ill give the new rom and kernel to settle in before anything is fecidee

any chances of you implementing a louder volume tweak into your kernel for incall? the only thing i notice is occasional lag when pressing the back button, sometimes it doesn't respond at all.
My capacitive buttons doesn't vibrate when I press them now...?
How do I go back to the stock kernel?

Reflash your ROM.
That's a known issue with all custom kernels. It only seems to happen to a few people.

I installed BetterBatteryStats last night so I'll chime in tonight. As mentioned before, screen on time isn't accessible on Sense's settings.

Monx - All threads closed, all dl links removed ! What's going on here ??

I couldn't believe my eyes when i switched over to XDA this evening.
All Monx threads were closed, and the download links were completely removed !
What the heck is going on here ??
One of the greatest devs - One of the best Xperia Rom's - not accessible any more ??
C'mon are you're kidding ???
He seems to have broken the rules regarding solicitation of 'donations'.

Glad I downloaded the rom the other night then... Sad to see a good dev kicked out of the community though
---------- Post added at 05:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:26 PM ----------
so he has been baned because he posted a DL link to people that had donated 1 1/2 hours before the OP was updated with the link?
Damn it...heres gone another...zu dev is getting smaller...here's i thought i will stick with Monx...but no update after this, just no point to stay....unless someone can continue the work if it's doable...

Get on GPE 4.42 already
If you love the Sony UI, you can xposed theme it. Most of the Sony apps also work on GPE if you sideload it.
GPE is literally the future of the device for KK 4.42 and beyond...embrace it

So far performance has been horrible so I have to agree. I like the Sony stock rom much more, but no big deal, I will just keep the one I am using and customize it with xposed etc
How is performance terrible?
Its kit Kat 4.42 and it runs like a dream. Definitely faster than 4.3. Did you full wipe before flashing?

Accidentally hit the thanks button
Also, say whaaat? Horrible performance? It performs like nothing else. Not sure if you base your facts on the benchmark thread or if you've done a very dirty flash, but it's the fastest sucker in town. It's also incredible light on resources since it's KK.

You dont use Barney to quote me...that is Legen.....wait for it....
How is it faster exactly since I have no log whatsover with stock 4.3? What do you notice that makes it better in your tests?
General ui fluidity, decreased ram usage and better battery life are my main improvements.
Then there's all the features of Kk over 4.3
If you love the Sony ui so much there's a theme for it on xposed. Most of the Sony apps can also be downloaded from the market or sideloaded with the Apk.
Best of all its entirely bug free. Not a single random reboot or freeze since installation.
Can you get small apps working too?
Has anyone tested Dreamcast emulator..I would like to know if it has the same issue as with 4.3

Jumping in here quite unnoticed.
I noticed that the rom or device seems to get tired at the end of the day.. kind of getting laggy and slower and slower. Even now my device stopped scrolling for a sec at your barney picture.
It's not near as quick and responsive as the CM roms (have not tried cm kk rom)
I don't care about benchmarks since like year 2011.. Its just a bunch of numbers.
I never reboot but I think I need too do this more often, just like back in the days with my Desire.

Not seeing this kind of behavior here. Are you sure you don't have an app that's leaking RAM?
