Unlocked and Rooted. Having issues getting CWM to stick.
Thought it was odd done this a couple of times. First time I resoted stock recovery and it reverted. Well ok reflash with fastboot because it restored the recovery partition.
Was going to modify the framework.apk and went to
Flashed recovery by:
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-blue-photon1.3.img
moto-fastboot reboot.
Upon reboot accessed CWM recovery and did a backup.
Tried to push framework.apk and screwed it up somewhere so it bootlooped.
Battery pull select android recovery.... and back to stock recovery.
Had to reflash with fastboot and restore backup.
Any ideas why the recovery partition is reverting back to stock??
EDIT:
Thanks to mrinehart93 for pointing this out.
The system runs /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on boot with the stock rom. On boot it checks the recovery partition for some update and with CWM installed decides to reflash the stock recovery over it. Rename or delete the file and the CWM should stick.
i might be wrong but i think you have to flash a custom kernal for it to stick.

Same problem had to me. There is a file called "install-recovery.sh" in system/etc (I believe). Adb shell into the phone and delete that. Then reflash the recovery and it will stick.

That did it. We may want to have romracer add this to the notes on the CWM OP for others to see. I renamed mine and worked like a charm. Thanks.
how do I adb into the phone to fix this?

thanks for the solution, you guys rock! this was stressing me out for the longest time!
I am having the same problem as everyone else has here. I navigated to /system/etc/ with Astro File Manager and there is no file starting with "install" anywhere in that directory. Could it be somewhere else or hidden?
Flashed Light green 5.0.2.7-atrix5 ZIP version. Initially it couldn't boot and after a couple of attempts (without my input) it booted to the lockscreen but locked. Had to pull battery.
Managed to boot and get past the lockscreen and found the default live wallpaper ??.
I booted into recovery to find the new recovery had flashed.
At the moment it will boot but takes a long time and when it does boot it crashes every few minutes.
I didn't have the install.recovery.sh" @ /system/etc. file mentioned above.
Any ideas?
Hi everybody,
here is my problem: I can not boot any kind of ROM or recovery image. CWM is working properly (it is an internal CWM). I have this issue since I tried to install the CM9 with 3.0.x kernel. I am pretty sure that this situation is all my fault, I mean, I do not think the nook has any kind of damage.
How can I fix it?
PS: I can easily flash the ROMs and the recovery images, but when I reboot the device, it just reboots in CWM.
PPS: I don't know if this can be useful: at the end of the flashing process it says "sd-ext.img not found. skipping restore of sd-ext".
Thanks

The message at end is normal. Did you create a backup using cwm prior to attempting to load new rom? Did you perform reset and clear cache post loading new rom? What were you running prior to this? This might help in determining what the issue is.

- Yes, I've created a backup before loading the new ROM but not using CWM (I've used rom manager).
- Yes, I performed wipe cache and data after loading the ROM.
- When everything was working fine I was on CM7 Alpha Final (the all-in-one-mod version).
Check if there is a backup file in SD/clockworkmod/backup. If so, try restoring backup through CWM. I've had the same problem flashing cm9 3.01 with CWM 5.0. The easiest way back was to restor a backup of previous mod.
Good luck

If u have any zip file of cm7 rom extract it on ur PC there u will find a file "boot.img" , copy it to ur fastboot folder, then in command prompt type "fastboot boot boot.img", that's it the old 2.xx kernel will be flashed

In addition, before you go flashing new kernels, you might want to try and just re-flash CWM. Not sure if it would work, but it's just a thought. You could boot into a CM7 SD ROM, then use @Indirect's Recovery Flasher App to re-flash CWM to see if you just had a bad recovery install. At any rate, good luck.
Ok. But I can't make fastboot works! When I open the program (that is a terminal window) I'm not able to type anything.

I don't know if this could help: I just would like to make it run. I don't need any particular ROM. Even a "simple" unrooted stock could be good. I don't mind if I will loose all the data.

As much as I flash via ODIN, CWM, TWRP, etc., I have never used ADB for anything. I will download Android SDK package and get going figuring it out. Bear with me a little while. I'll get back to you. Again, thanks for all your help.
I've tried both ADB and terminal emulator and could not figure out how to pull recovery.fstab. Basically, I cannot find the file. I had to admit, I am a novice when it comes down to ADB and terminal emulator even after the searching and reading about both. I got ADB installed, and it is recognizing my device. I was also able to execute commands but I can't find the file to pull. Am I missing something?

Unable to install CWM on my GT-I9200
Hi Sarath,
I was able to root the phone but was never successful in installing the CWM on my GT-I9200 (India). I get only those 2 red lines when I try to get into CWM but normally everything works fine and no RED lines when booting. Please try to get the CWM working for this phone.
If the phone is stuck without booting or anything happens to the stock ROM then without CWM nothing can be done except taking the Phone to the Service center which is a Pain.
Thank you for working on this....Really appreciate all your work...

I had to take the phone to the Service Center in Hyderabad. They took 2 days to get it fixed. I got it back in running condition now.
I just rooted it again now. Will wait till I get a backup ROM.
How to Backup the Current ROM?
Could someone help me in backing up the Current ROM? I9200 6.3 Mega India
I have rooted the phone and tried using the ROM Manager Premium 5.2.2.8 and others to back up but it needs the CWM to backup...

the reason you cant find your back up is because all aosp 4.2.2 roms create the "sdcard0" file path for your data, instead of 4.1.x having just the "sdcard" directory. TWRP wont let you navigate back to the original directory, and flashing a stock rom or backup wont fix it. you either have to manually delete the folder on the computer or on a file manager on the phone (but a computer is recomended).
now what type of factory reset did you do? the regular option in TWRP wipes /data, /cache, and /dalvik. is that the one?
i went into twrp and hit "format data" and it told me to type yes and then it formatted everything ...so afterwards it says superuser is not installed then swipe to install it...after i go to reboot system and it says No operating system installed

yea man that format data button wipes EVERYTHING. that button should not be pressed when regularly flashing different roms. it says that because there is no operating system on your phone anymore. and there probably isnt a backup either, as im not sure what partitions that wipes in detail. can you reboot into recovery by holding down the volume down and power button until the lights flash about 10 times? see if you still have a recovery
yeah i can get back into recovery..i just dont know how to get phone to boot up...yeah i dont know why i decided to format the data..haha friggen idiot i am

you also need to make sure you have all the correct HTC drivers for the phone. if you could previously plug your phone in and navigate the internal storage, you should be fine.
1) download a plain, stock sense 4+ ROM and get it ready
2) boot the phone into recovery
3) plug the phone into the computer
4) launch the toolkit. you should see your device in the list at the top of the toolikit. if not hit option 20.Refresh toolkit. if it still doesnt show up, you might have bigger problems
5) select option 14 and follow the prompts
6) reboot the recovery
7) check and see if you can find the rom in TWRP and install
let me know. i'll be off XDA for an hour, in about 45 minutes. but if this doesnt work, pm your gmail address and get on hangouts

Okay, since I did stop using ROMs and root I don't know if you can fix this without wiping your data such as photos or downloaded apps
But I can tell you how to fix it
1. You need to download flash tool
2. Download your favorite stock firmware (lollipop or kitkat)
3. Install flashtool and drivers (you can find them in drivers folder inside flash tool folder)
4. Happy flashing
If you need help on how to flash you can PM me

Try to flash supersu trough recovery. Download the flashable zip from chainfire directly and flash it. It should boot if you deleted only that folder.
thank you! I will definitely try that, lets see if this works. I will want to remove the root and factory reset back to default afterwards, the wipe did not seem to remove the mod the last time, any word on how to do that? Thanks either way!

Existenz is a full rom not a mod so it wont get wiped after a factory reset. You will need to flash an ftf (stock firmware) trough flashtool in order to restore your device to factory state. You dont need to check "wipe data" to keep your apps and data but restore all stock aystem files. And if then your phine doesn't boot, flash the ftf again with wipe data checked.
