Problem with text messages - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have a problem with texting. I try texting a coworker of mine and he can't receive my texts. I can get his fine but he can't receive mine. He's using a Samsung galaxy s3 on Verizon. He's the only one I have these problems with. What could be the problem?

It helps to name the ROM, sometimes there are known issues associated with the ROM in question. A good example would be CMX having an issue that doesn't let you download MMS but you can still send them

I'm using viper4g 1.0

Haven't tried viper yet, someone else might know if its a pre-existing issue. I use Google voice so in the even that I can't use my phone text messages can still be sent, also it backs up everything which is quite handy

Are you receiving a confirmation that your texts are being sent? I have noticed that when I am sending texts while at the office, where I have a very low cell signal, that sometimes my texts are not sent at all. I use Handcent SMS and sometimes after I "send" a message, the wheel will spin but the message will never officially go through (I have come across messages that I thought I sent the previous day). This usually occurs when I have a very low or no cell signal. Generally, when I "edit" the message and re-send it the text goes through. I am also running Viper4G.

I've been running viper for a couple of months and no sms/mms issues here. Maybe a Verizon issue?

I can text my friends with verizon fine. I get this message when I text my co worker
Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code. Msg 2114
from my EVO using xda app-developers app
I get the same msg when I text another friend but he gets my texts.

Where are you located? I'm in the SF bay area and it seems like sprint is always mucking about with the network here one way or another, be it wimax deployment or now probably LTE testing. My friend who is on a Samsung Epic4g also has the same problems as i do, but when he went to vegas and hawaii none of those issues popped up.
I'm on Viper4g 1.0 also and i've had the problems of outgoing texts not going at all or being delayed by a considerable amount of time. I had this behavior on charmeleon and the old Viper also so i don't think its an issue with the rom. It is either the phone itself or the network, and i'm more inclined to think its the network because the issues were not present when i went down to LA.

I'm in santa cruz county. The texts seem to go out fine since I don't get any error messages he just doesn't receive them.

It could be the device but not as a bug or hardware failure. In my area we had towers that were experiencing partial failure (cs rep's words not mine, I dont believe in partial anything. If it fails it fails) with the towers and they were under repair. When I visited my father which is the area directly affected he complained that his phone was defective and no one could hear him speaking. Sprint replaced the phone twice and same issue on those as well. His data worked albeit slowly and anytime I attempted to access data my lte would jump to roaming and not accept calls. A friend of his also in the same area had the exact same issue with his epic touch but he noticed that when he left the area it would work. it took 3 months for those 2 towers to come back completely. Naturally I assumed it was an upgrade (vision network and or lte) but sadly no

SMS Bug?

Hey guys, im currently running stock, but when i'm texting, the persons texts will come and mine will send but the timing right but the order is wrong. Its like it will group mine on top of what the person is sending me so an example would be like
10:10 - person says hey
i reply hey wahts up at 10:15
and it will show my reply on top of theirs? its groups them like that?
Im currently on Wind network, with Telus unlocked Amaze 4G
Unistall visual voicemail
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
I dont think wind even has visual voicemail, this will happen at random times (i've only noticed this happen wednesday, then thursday, and then today at completley different times.) What usually fixes this is a restart. maybe a bug on the phone?
Maybe you downloaded something on the phone that's causing it?

Possibly a data/signal issue. Low or no signal will cause a delay in time stamps. I wouldn't consider this a phone issue just network related failure..

Not receiving calls

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but it appears I am not receiving some calls and/or receiving text late or not at all. I wondering if setting the Roam setting to "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" makes a difference. This seems to be an off and on issue. Also it is starting to get on my nerves when I get text VMs atleast 3 hours after the call was made to me (keep in mind my phone never rang during those calls).
Anybody have any solutions, besides throwing this cool "buggy ass" phone against the wall?
This is a nice phone but it definitely has some bugs to be worked out. Or is all the problems related to Sprint's F'd up signals? My wife has the EVO3D and has none of these issues... wtf.

I am also having the exact same problem. I have tried playing with all the mobile settings and updating prl without success. This issue is intermitent. Also, I am periodically getting the unable to detect time/timezone message.
I am about to call Sprint, but was hoping to find a solution here. Please let me know what you find out.

I have the same problem and I called Sprint and they told me they were having issues everywhere they are doing Network Vision upgrades cuz of towers being taken offline for the changes so you may be getting some of that

I have researched the issue and it appears this issue is not uncommon. There is already an established post started for this issue, titled; "Anyone else having reception/signal issues?" Right now it appears one the ways to fix this issue is having Sprint re-provisioning your phone. Some have claimed this has helped.
I am planning on doing this myself sometime today.
But it does seem to be a Sprint conectivity issue and/or an issue with the phones antenna.
So I called Sprint and they had me reactivate, but signal still seemed to be a problem as it still roams. They recommended I take it in and get it replaced. So that is what I am going to do as I am just under the 14 day period.
not receiving calls
are you guys still having the same issue or have a work around?
I'm also not getting calls and when I try to make calls, I receive text messages that was sent in the past. I tried to contact customer support but all they've done was have me update profile and restart the phone. This is getting ridiculous specially missing some important calls.
Complain and get a free Airave. Then you'll have perfect call quality and 5 bars everywhere in your house. Done.

I have been missing lots of calls the lastbfew days, and even wasnable to replicate the issue at my house. If my wife's phone calls mine, it will ring until voicemail on her end,and I get nothing on mine unless I leave a voicemail. I have steady, if not great signal on both (100ish DB).this is only the case for incoming calls, as I can always call out from home with no problems.
I tried that scenario a coupl dozen times, and got through 4 times.
I found two workarounds so far that seem to work consistently. (Both from other threads, can't take credit for finding them, but I did test them extensively. )
1. If I am on another call, I will get the incoming call everytime. I just dial voicemail and have someone call me to test. Without fail, the call center through.
2. Turning GPS and all location services on under settings -location. Strangely enough, all of my dozen test calls have gone through after turning GPS location on. Turning it off brought the usual 20% call success rate back.
Odd to say the least...

It isn't a signal issue, the phones just don't ring. I have this issue and have full bars when attempted calls do not come into the EVO LTE. I can make calls out fine, just no received calls. Also to make this a more peculiar issue, I go down the highway a couple miles and it works fine.
I have called Sprint and followed a blog on sprint.com http://sprint.r.delivery.net/r/c/r?2.1.GT.2Z2.1hiUnF.DfhoXq..N.1QNCs.4RAa.bW89MQ__DObeFTE0 where others have the same issue, even in the same town. Sprint has followed up with no issue and ticket closed. It is currently open again..
My girlfriend broke up with me over theses missed text messages
and i missed important calls. I called sprint he had me turn off the phone while they refreshed it. Working ok so far i will say this i unrooted my phone and when i woke up i had 48 text messages from the previous week and eight voice mails from three days ago, i wonder if everyone with this problem was rooted as well.

I had the same problem with me evo 4g and evo 3d...
I had same problem. Only way to get texts or calls was to call my voice mail. Sprint started a ticket, but since I was within my 14 days I exchanged the phone. Good thing I did cause Sprint closed the ticket on me telling me it was due to system upgrades. But it was not the network at all. As soon as they activated my new phone everything worked perfect. It was the phone the whole time.

Try This...
I have an epic4g touch and this is the only "Band aid" that has stopped me from smashing my phone!
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!

No incoming calls or texts since S-OFF [SOLVED]

I started having trouble with my LTE just after FeedPanda (no blame being thrown around, just stating).
I'm running the stock ROM with Zedomax's method. A couple of hours ago, I ran FeedPanda and successfully got S-OFF.
Since then, I haven't been able to send or receive texts or receive phone calls (outgoing calls work). I was using PRL 12121 but have since "updated" to 25004. I've only used ~50MB of roaming and ~900MB on network of data per Sprint.com.
I've gone through Profile Updates and even hands free activation (##72786#).
If jump over to Verizon's network with RoamControl and go through activation (over wifi) there, then I can receive calls, send texts, and receive SOME texts.
I'll be able to test a different Sprint tower in the morning, but the fact that I can't receive some texts is bizarre. Sprint claims to not have any problems with the tower in my area currently.
Any ideas/opinions until I can test a different tower?

I'm still running the stock ROM out of the box? Would it have messed with it?
Do you have data?
Personally I'm waiting out unlocking with panda until others have done it and issues have been reported and evaluated by the community. Want to make sure I have answers available should something go very wrong.

Ahhh.... I got it fixed.
Recently, when I tried to make calls, Sprint started interrupting my outgoing calls after the first ring with a voice saying "Error: 16..."
I looked it up on Google. Apparently it's an anti-fraud measure Sprint has against S-OFF phones to make sure that people aren't getting on their network.
A call to Sprint to remove the flag on the line and a hands-free activation was all it took.
Sorry to answer my own question, but maybe this will help someone.

I had the exact same issue. Two reboots and it was back to normal.

I did root and s-off and everything worked but when I did the *2 it said voice failed, though it worked.
So it bothered me to see that and I went and did a ##data# and cleared my data profile out.
Rebooted phone did *2, this time voice passed and data failed natrualy as I cleared it.
Now I got on my wifi, went to settings, update profile and prl and it added info back. Got off wifi and had no data still. Went into ##data# and found active profile was 0, set to 1 and all been good now and *2 passes everything.
Only odd thing I found is my lifetime data resets to 0 with every reboot and my min/call count is frozen at 0 on the ##786#.
I actually had the same issue but not from going S-OFF. I lost incoming voice and text going back to S-ON. I just opened chat with sprint though and they fixed the issue in 3 minutes.

I was able to send after I did the S-Off message, but today, it's a no-go.
Had the same issue and got it fixed over sprint tech chat on their website just told them no incoming or out goin calls 2 mins later it was fixed

Resolved: Anyone having issues with Text Messaging?

Non of my SMS are being delivered today. Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: Having the same issue with whatsapp messenger as well.
99.5% chance its sprints towers. Update prl and profile, reboot, wait it out. Your surrounding towers are probably being worked on. It's one of Network vision "side effects"
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Simple PRL and profile update will fix it 99% of the time
Any other ideas? I've done many PRL updates and profile updates, hard boot and soft boot and went from tower at my work to tower at my house about 45 minutes apart, and SMS still not going through.
My phone is working fine in terms of data and phone calls etc, just no SMS. Whatsapp seems to have fixed itself as well.
I've had really annoying texting issues. Probably been my biggest issue with this phone -- I guess it could be due to network vision upgrades, but it started happening right after I purchased my EVO 4G LTE. Mine hang sometimes, then other times it'll send the same message 10 times.
The only issue I've had to where it just won't send at all, even after a restart, is with my airave. I've had it happens a few times -- my texts will hang indefinitely (arrow animation never stops) until I unplug my airave.
I had issues with sms not sending today also. But I'm sure its b/c of them working on the towers LTE.because about 3 times since last Saturday I had LTE for like 5 minutes or so then gone.but sms working again now.

It's the network upgrade guys. Coincidence or not, it's the upgrade. Everyone has complained about this and it's always the same explanation.
Do you have to call your voicemail to get your texts?

Oh, okay. Color me convinced.
Funny you post this, mine are not working well this afternoon.
Just curious, are you guys using stock or custom rom?
Stock.
Anyways, I called up sprint and they were able to help me out. At first he said there was a cell site that was being worked the tech did the troubleshooting, asked me to reboot and I am able to send and receive test messages
Out of the blue I'm now unable to send text messages. :crying:
I can still receive them, just can't send them. Hopefully it's something on Sprint's end and it works itself out in a days time.
I found out I was unable to make calls as well. I restored a few previous Viper 4G nandroid backups to see if that would help, but no luck. I finally restored all the way to the stock rom w/ root and I was able to make calls again. A fresh wipe and install (not restore) of Viper 4G and I was back to not being able to make calls. Guess it's stock rom for me for awhile. Classes started today and I won't have as much time to play.
And stock pooped out too. Must've been a fluke earlier.
Things now work again. The fault is all on Sprint's end. Stupid Sprint...
I hope there's a silver lining and it means I'm getting LTE sooner than later!
Its network congestion most likely, in my experience sudden roaming or network dropping in and out in a well covered area means repair or upgrades which now that I think about it could affect text messages as well

multiple text messages

I'm running the phone stock on the latest Hboot, and sometimes my phone receives the same text from a person multiple times. This happens when my phone gets texts from anyone, but it's most apparent when I receive texts from iphones. My friend with an iphone sent me a message on thanksgiving and I received that exact message 19 more times in the next three days.
Anyone know a solution for this?
Haven't had this problem myself but I've seen posts from others who have and I believe the consensus was that it's a network issue. I wanna say people were reporting it when using an Airave too...Are you using one by any chance?
Sent from my EVO LTE
not using an Airwave.
It's known to happen when network is bogged down on either end and it is the holidays
i have had it happen to me before. it was on thanksgiving so maybe the network bog down theory is correct. only was happening with one person and i was texting multiple people that day so i figured it was something on her end. she uses pay as u go or cricket or some other lame company
