**UPDATE** We have a winner!! AdamOutler pinned down the first place, lucky us
Hey guys so I was just on the xda main page and saw XDA’s Favorite Phone and Tablet of 2011 Contest: Vote Now! and none other than the Unbrickable Mod's AdamOutler is trying to get our phone. If he does, he will bring on some really awesome development, I'd list some but just watch his video or look up the Unbrickable mod.
Ok we can be a little selfish here and vote for him to get it because we know that we will get all the rewards, along with the other 35 million owners of the Galaxy S II. So go vote here and hope he gets it.

He's an amazing Dev! I know he's done some hardware work with the i777. Not exactly sure what though

Ever heard of Unbrickable Mod? Watch his video submission and you'll see what he does.
I shared the link on G+...twice. Right now he's crushing the competition with 73 votes.
He just got my vote too!
As a devoted user of Andromeda 3 on my Cappy, Adam has my utmost respect.
I voted too - although what I REALLY want to see is what he'll do with the Transformer!
This guy is awesome haha he reminds me of Adam West

The intro says this:
"... something Samsung was so happy about, they offered to give away three Galaxy S II’s on T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon."
If Adam can make a i777 ROM with one of those phones he's more amazing than I remember.

well i think we know that the Galaxy S II has only come out on three carriers: t-mobile, sprint and our at&t, not verizon so im guessing its a safe bet that the intro was just a typo

Adam isn't really a ROM guy - he's a bootloader/soldering-iron-to-the-hardware-guy. As in, he lives BELOW the kernel, where few dare to tread.
In short, he's where I usually prefer to reside, but I don't have the balls yet to take a soldering iron to my own device.
If Samsung ever pulls any really nasty bootloader shenanigans (ICS???), Adam will be the guy to save us. Right now only idiots can hardbrick an I777, but ICS could change things.
Adam got my vote. Thanks for putting this thread here... I almost never check the home page on xda... the dude is masterful, can't wait to see what goodness he brings to the i777.....
Adam got my vote too!

Thanks for posting this, he's got my vote. Can't wait to see what he does with our phone.
On a slightly unrelated note: the other entry videos that I watched kinda make me go /facepalm.

Would love to see what Adam could bring to the i777!
He seems to be the only Dev on that list. From his work on the Unbrickable Mod, he really deserves this phone.

yeah I was pretty surprised that there weren't more serious devs that made it cuz I'm interested in the good work they'll do not those random weird videos?

Voted! Come on Adam....this guy was a beast on the Captivate. Not so much for Roms but if we ever need to solder our hardware, Adams our guy!
Sooner or later i know people will notice, so i felt it prudent to let people know here and now, before any rumors or anything else starts...
As you may, or may not, have noticed, Red5 is no longer on XDA, as both a mod and user. THIS WAS AT HIS REQUEST. We are VERY sad to see him go, but personal issues have come up, and his time is needed elsewhere. I wish him the best, and hope in the future he can rejoin us. AGAIN, i cannot stress enough that this was HIS choice; there was no problem otherwise..
In the meantime, I am still here (sorry guys, cannot get rid of me that easily), and will be coordinating with staff for his replacement.
Before anyone asks, i am sorry, i do not have any contact information that i can give out for him; somebody else might, but I do not. I wish him all the best, and i hope everyone joins me in that. I will leave this open for people to post farewells, but ANYTHING ELSE will be deleted without notice and with extreme prejudice.
Wow, hopefully everything is alright. Red was a great mod and is just a good person
In general. Good luck to you Red and hopefully we will see you back soon.

I really did notice that he wasn't posting anymore.. really sad to see him go. He was a really great mod with a dash of humor. I really wish him all the best in his endeavours and hopes as everyone else that he comes back to XDA once again.:crying:
He was a little harsh at first, but once you warm up to him he's pretty cool. I wish him the best of luck!
Looks like I'm going to angry text him.
PS- I'll take his position.

I have to say, i think the job is more difficult than many imagine, and I know he really threw himself at it. Aside from the thanks button, it is a thankless, never ending job (keep in mind, this was not his only forum), and it cna be really stressful. I think he did a great job here, and i hope his time away is good for him.
He will be missed.

Goodbye buddy, you will be missed.
Red5, you did such a great job here as a mod, and your humor and general awesomeness will indeed be sorely missed. Good luck and best wishes for whatever life has next for you. *golf claps*
So, I've been playing with the nexus4 for a couple months now. Having a device that's officially supported is nice, and there's definitely no shortage of aosp roms. I don't particularly miss sense, but what I do miss is this dev/user community.
The devs that remain here are incredibly patient and ridiculously helpful compared to what I've been dealing with in the n4 section.. The rootbox dev actually closed his thread because people were reporting bugs and asking for support with a flawed release. It was unbelievable to me. Then I found out that it's not uncommon for devs to release a Rom just to have their name on something..
So, from the perspective of "newer and better things", dev support makes a huuuuge difference in the user experience. Thank you to all the devs here for sticking it out and helping this community thrive. All the roms in the world couldn't make up for that. You are all truly invaluable to the android experience, and I hope the users here never take that for granted.
Thanks again,
Dan
P.S- I'm aware that I probably didn't need my own thread for this.. But I just had to pop that cherry .

Helpful information to share, at least I think so. The lack of love the Rez has gotten from Big Red makes me leery about buying a third HTC phone(started with the Incredible). I am considering Nexus for the next purchase, or even seeing if the iPhone is all its cracked up to be! (blasphemy, I know). I do love the Devs that have stuck it out though. And it's good to hear from someone who's gone elsewhere...

Its weird how different the forums are for different devices. Everyone is so chill on the galaxy nexus section but the nexus 4 section is really uptight.

I agreed. Of all of the forums I've been a part of, this one is by far the most chill. Seems like the VZW GSIII forums can be really uptight sometimes, and the thunderbolt forums are just... Awful now. It's like anarchy there.

This forum section is like the droid incredible one.....well considering most people on here came from the incredible its kind of expected. Everyone, for the most part, treats each other with respect and acts like a community
I can accept failure but I can't accept not trying.
+1 to that. Our devs rock

(ok, so I am thinking about getting the note3 today, was just browsing the forums to look at roms, see what the community is like over here, whatnot... )
EDIT: After browsing about a bit, I see what you guys mean. What a levelheaded and knowledgeable fellow that guy is!
Yeah, you would think the guy gets paid to monitor the threads and answer all our dumb questions with thoughtful, useful and eloquently written responses. Next step is for you to start developing dude. With your communication skills and omnipresence you would be awesome.

I definitely nominate him for RC. :good:

Off to root this puppy. Look forward to seeing you (obvious regulars) around here, and glad to know that there's some real camaraderie in this section.
(TBH, it was this thread that really cemented my purchase today, for some weird reason. I would rather 4 good devs and a handful of regular, respectable, polite and smart users, than 48 wannabe devs and 62k newbie troll entitled users in a section.)
See ya soon, Micmars!

Also on top of all the awesomeness that he brings with his helpful and often humorous responses, micmars also is a major contributor to many of the roms in this forum in multiple ways, including but not limited to supplying extra hosting space and any other support he can give.I truly believe he gives back to this community more than anyone could possible ask, and does more than even the best of devs for the community.
He makes this phone an exceptional experience for more people than anyone realizes.
I vote for an exception to be made to the 9 month rule.
Honestly a little tag by his name pales in comparison to the recognition he deserves nay, has earned, regardless of the amount of time he has been here.
Trust me you want @micmars around.
Every effort and exception should be made to gain and keep any user who has 1/10 his patience and ability/willingness to help others. Or honestly why are we doing this.
And if the cost is a little name change, to show that appreciation, how can you complain about that?
I know i have no real say or standing in the matter, though those are my feelings on it.
Once again and forever...
Thank you @micmars, for everything.

I agree whole heartedly with @mjcollum! I second the motion to forget about time period which is so miniscule in comparison to what he has given back to the community.

I agree.. I'm a liberal as well and I can't stand facts!! It kills me when my man Chris Matthews gets caught.. He is so good at keeping a straight face when he tells me how great things are going in our country.. then all of a sudden, Stupid O'rielly or the other pompous A$$ Hannity have to come on their show with facts.
But whatever! I'm a liberal loving loon who can't open my eyes.. I'm proud of it too!
