thanks in advance for ur feedback.
sent from my nexus 7.

There is no soff for phones after hboot 1.12, you can still use regawmod or HTC dev unlock to root

I couldn't use regawmod. Didn't go to bootloader. I had to htcdev. And then fastboot. I have s-on root. I for one don't see the hoopla with s-off. I find it easy enough to root with s-on.

Could have just started it from bootloader.
Anyway, S-OFF is a huge advantage. With that said, its not required if you know what you're doing

Same here, I tried regawmod bit didn't work. When I open the regawmod and connect the phone appears the root me button after I click says reloading bootloader but nothing happens, the phone don't reset like if the program can't talk to the phone even though show as connected. Any ideas ?

Run it from the bootloader like I suggested a post above you

I'm doing it right now, went to boot loader run the regawmod, went through the htcdev process until unlock your bootloader screen appears on my computer but not on the phone

I would really recommend unlocking manually, regawmod is a great tool but even with the latest update its still a bit unreliable. Some people are having to go to boot loader themselves and others are having to reboot manually each time the phone needs to restart. Its still the easiest method though.

I'm having the exact same issues.
I am also on software update 2.13.651.1
Tried to use RegawMOD and it freezes once I click the root menu. I also tried another root method to no avail.
I have .NET 4.0 installd and HTCDriver also.
Any ideas? I'm reading that I have to manually boot into the bootloader? how do i do this?
Thanks for any help.

To boot into bootloader press and hold volume down and power until it resets. Sometimes my phone doesn't like that tho, so I just restart with power down. Once screen goes black hold down volume and power. Should take you into bootloader. Maybe start the one-click from there and u may have to reset phone yourself when script says resetting phone but it doesn't itself.
Think all that is needed is net 4.0 and HTC drivers for regaw. I used the manual root and u need adb tools for that. Your hboot won't allow the zedomax method though.

Turn off that feature for quickly booting the phone, I can not remember what its called but turning it off makes getting into the boot loader easier

It's called "Fast boot". It's under the power icon in settings. Uncheck it, and it should allow the phone to use RegawMOD smoothly.

Gah....I need some sleep haha

Yeah, fastboot is and has been off. It still doesn't want to go in bootloader by pressing volume down and power. Have a Rom that does it automatic now though, so no worries.

Plug the phone in and use adb reboot bootloader...all this and more in my guide...ooohh shameless plug for the win!!

Need Help please. Trying to get to hboot

I held the volume down key then held power button down. While holding the volume down & releasing the pwr button it only booted normally.
I noticed while holding both buttons down when trying again that the soft keys blink at the bottom. I hit the Home key in the middle and now every time it boots it says "SAFE MODE" in the bottom left of the screen. I tried repeating the same procedure, but it still boots while displaying "SAFE MODE" on the lower left of the screen.
I could still never get in bootloader mode.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I should add that I did use the RUNME method for rooting the phone a couple of days ago. This morning I installed the apk GOOManager to install TWRP. When I select reboot to recovery, it would say I need to do it manually which was why I started to do the steps I described above.

Thanks! Turned it off! I am now in recovery. It shows at the top:
***TAMPERED***
***LOCKED***
I'm a bit confused if we don't have S-OFF & it's still locked is it like the 3D with a locked bootloader?
Crap..then I chose to go into RECOVERY & it shows the small icon of the phone with a red triangle over it with the exclamation mark. Can't pull the battery! How do I restart it! Darn it... shouldn't have messed with it! I've rooted a dozen phones before this...
Well, it eventually rebooted on it's own. Whew. patience! It no longer says safe mode either which is good. I wanted to make a backup image with TWRP before trying other ROMS. I'm not sure what gives & why after using GooManager in didn't seem to install.

I never had a 3D, so I can't really help you there. Have you unlocked your bootloader through HTC Dev or did you just run the One Click Root from the development section? I ask because in order to install a custom recovery, you must have your bootloader unlocked, which only HTC Dev can do right now.
I used the one click method from the dev section watching the vid on Hack.com or whatever it was... using the RUNME.BAT

Yea, that's the problem, you must unlock your bootloader in order to install a custom recovery. Although I'm not sure if you can do the HTC Dev process with a "Tampered" bootloader. You might have to un-root first.

Thanks for the help.. I'll look into that. I'll have to turn this one in on a claim as I had broke the screen over the weekend...have to wait until my Defender case arrives 1st and more stock to come in so I can have fun with this one until I file the claim.

just hold down power for like 10 sec and it will hard reboot
it didnt install because your bootloader is still locked, you just have software level root.
Thanks for the help guys! I didn't know the one click method still left it locked. I'll do the HTC method then. I did that with my 3D...even though the bootloader was still locked...

So, I'm assuming you've never seen a stock recovery. The phone with the red triangle after you select recovery from the bootloader shows that first. As an added precaution, you then must hold vol. + and press power and it will boot into the real recovery. In order to flash any fancy ROMs or anything, you need to install a custom recovery. At present, TWRP is recommended due to it having the /misc partition error corrected.

What do you mean you're stuck in fastboot? Did you get a RUU installed? When you hold the power button for 10 seconds, what does it do on the reboot?
Yes I did the RUU when I did all of the root, recovery and the Viper mod. Followed up with th eRUU the wallet never syncronized! Figured I would Unroot follwed QGkings video to relock before unroot now no matter what I do stuck in fastboot

Ok. You need to run the RUU or something. Sounds like there IS a ROM on there because it wouldn't show tampered if the filesystem didn't have root.
Have you tried using the htcdev unlock again on it?
You'll need to either run a RUU or unlock and flash a stock recovery and boot image. The security warning is because you have S-ON and are using a modified kernel/recovery.
Yes the S-on is active Tried RUU get error 140. dont know what HTC Dev other than Regraw. that doesnt work either! Keeps saying not Evo 4g lte
The 140 error, I believe, is from having a bad connection. You may need to reinstall and then uninstall htc sync to get the proper drivers before it'll work.
i have the same problem any answers
Install the generic HTC drivers and check under devices that its detecting your phone

[Q] How to Reroot after OTA update to HTC EVO 4g let

Hi Everyone,
I accidentally hit the OTA update (software ver. 1.22.651.3 710RD) for my rooted HTC EVO 4G LTE phone (whoops!). I have SuperSU Pro with Survival Mode activated but that didn't work. I never installed special ROMs and primarily used ROOT for Tethering.
At any rate, my root is now gone and I can't find any discussions about how to re-root after an OTA update. I don't want to screw up my phone any further since it seems to be working ok otherwise.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

You'll have to do the HTCDev unlock method (easiest way is through RegawMod). That's the only way right now.

actually the best way is htc dev using the adb tools mini sdk, regawmod has not been fixed and there are a lot of users complaining that they get stuck. To me it only takes a little common sense to solve 90% of the issues using regawmod but some people need their hands held and that thread is slowly boiling down to the worlds most repetitive support desk.
HTC Dev Unlock
Requirements
HTC Drivers
ADB Tools Mini SDK
Setup
Install HTC Drivers if necessary
Extract ADB Tools anywhere, doesnt matter
Open ADB Tools and hold shift+right click, select open command window here
In phone settings, enable usb debugging and disable fasboot
Connect the phone to pc
Steps
In the command window type adb start-server
Next type adb reboot bootloader
Select fastboot
Type fastboot devices to make sure you are connected
Type fastboot oem get_identifier_token
Right click and select mark, click and drag from the top arrows to the bottom arrows and make sure not to highlight any empty spaces as this will confuse the website, right click and it will be saved to clipboard
Now go to HTC Dev and if you don't already have an account, sign up for it
Go to unlock bootloader and select other supported models and accept the agreements
Skip the steps until you get the to token submit window and paste the token you copied earlier and submit.
Go to your email and download the unlock_bin code
Put the code in the ADB Tools folder
Type fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
When the phone prompt comes up to unlock bootloader hit yes, now you are unlocked, re-enable usb debugging and disable fastboot
Type adb reboot bootloader
Type fastboot devices to make sure phone connected
Type fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img
Type erase cache
Reboot phone and you will have unlock and recovery, all thats missing is to restart phone in bootloader and select recovery to flash a rom. Wipe Dalvik, cache, Factory reset, system and then install the rom. If it doesn't boot, extract the boot.img from the rom and put it in the adb folder and in fastboot type fastboot flash boot boot.img and reboot

Well, after getting the phone going and attempting to use programs with root privileges, it seems that the rooting process didnt work. All the steps went just fine until I got to the last one and it said to "wipe cashe" when I typed that in it didnt work, so I just skipped that step and rebooted the phone.
Is that what caused the root to not take to the phone?

Also tried this last night. I plug my phone in, hit the ROOT button and nothing happens. I actually get a "not responding" on the software. My phone does not reboot into recovery. Does the HBOOT version matter with this? I am v1.19
Sorry, I am still learning all these terms. Not exactly sure what effects what.
I rooted and put Cyanogenmod on my OG EVO and never had this much trouble.
FYI: I was rooted before doing the latest OTA update. So I still have a Super user icon but if I click it it cant update the binary (because I am no longer rooted)...I read somewhere that people said to do a factory reset then try this rooting method again, because of old junk files left behind on the phone. This true?
Does this work on hboot 1.19?

If I want to completely update my phone (Android 4.0.3, Soft ver 1.22.651, baseband 1.02 because I pretty much got the phone the phone in December and immediately rooted it), will this method work? I'd really like to get Mean Rom but obviously, I'm in need of a few updates and I'm trying to figure out the simplest way to get there. It seems like doing all the official updates and then re-rooting and then installing MR would be the simplest way to do it buuuuut better to ask and be wrong and pointed in the right direction than screw everything up.

upgraded to 4.1.1 and can't get to bootloader anymore...

I upgraded and now I can't get into bootloader by holding the power and volume down. It just starts when I hold them. I tried the volume up, but maybe I should try again? I read and didn't see that the bootloader was eliminated. I was previously rooted and I still see superuser in my list of apps, but I don't need it rooted still. I would think ugrading OTA would eliminate root but maybe not.
Uncheck fast boot in the power menu in settings and try again.

ok awesome thanks. That worked perfect. I wanted to see if it still said ***TAMPERED*** and ****LOCKED*** and it still does. It started bootlooping and after clearing storage it fixed it but I was concerned if I needed to take it to Sprint they would see the TAMPERED. Since it is S-ON and LOCKED, is there a way to eliminate TAMPERED?

You can S-off (assuming you didn't take the update OTA or update to the newest bootloader) and then customize what the bootloader reads (if you're on Hboot 1.12).

[Q] Unroot Question

I have read most of the unrooting issues and am very confused. I am new to rooting and oh so very green.
I tried to root my phone and ran into a problem. I manged to unlock but did not get access to SU. That is not even the issue anymore. I want to return the phone to lock. I assume I did not root since I do not have SU and all the root app said I do not have root access. I was weary of doing it in the first place and not I just want to go back. Not worth it for me. So I guess I need to know..
1 - How to lock it back. It has the "Tampered" "Unlocked" message when I boot to hboot (hope I am using the right terms).
2- I dont think I need to "unroot" cause I was not rooted in the first place and I did not of course add any ROMS.
I have read a lot of info but am a little intimidated but I do have pc skills so I am not TOTALLY dumb. Just dumb to rooting.
I guess I am stuck in limbo with the rooting issues and just want my phone back to norm. It's because I have now seen little stupid things going on with it. Like my volume keeps resetting itself from vibrate. I put it on vibrate and it goes into low loud volume by itself. Something in the root I guess.
Please Help...
Thanks!
BTW I am on ICS.
The only way to remove the "Tampered" would be to flash an RUU. But you have to have your boot loader relocked.
So, relock your boot loader, and then run the latest RUU.

Ok Thanks Graywolf... but I have a couple of questions. From what I have been reading:
1- How do I "relock" the phone. Also I have heard relocking may cause it to brick? I am still "s-on".
2- Will flashing the RUU cause it to brick? I understand through various forums that if I flash the wrong ruu and go back to before my ICS update i cannot get the ics update. Is there a way to flash to the ICS update we received last summer?
3 - Will doing all of this fix the little problems I now have? Like I stated above.. my "vibrate setting do not stay on vibrate. I think if I let the phone screen time out itself (without pushing the power button) when I wake it back up it's on low volume instead of vibrate. If I push the power button to make it sleep, it tends to stay on vibrate. ALSO I now notice that if my wifi is on for instance at home and I leave the house it used to automatically go to 4g. now my radio stays off and i have to turn it on in the settings.
I guess in a nut shell.. if reverting it back will brick it, then I will have to put up with these bugs until I get another later on this year... probably in Oct.
Let me know and thanks alot for your help.:good:
Also...
Will Hasoon's all in one kit fix it?
Anyone? Gray?

First, BACKUP ANYTHING IMPORTANT!
1. To relock the bootloader just reboot to hboot, and select "fastboot". Plug it in to your computer and (I assume you know how you unlocked it with fastboot commands) type into command prompt "fastboot oem lock".
2. The RUU will not flash unless your bootloader is relocked. So do step 1 first and then flash the OTA from this website.
3. An RUU will return your phone to the factory state. This should fix many problems that you may have.
RUU should fix things, and if it doesn't, then you know it is a hardware issue.

RUU should fix things, and if it doesn't, then you know it is a hardware issue.

fastboot oem lock is not a file, it is a command.
Ok gotcha thanks. It just seemed I remember reading I had to download a file to that folder and then type the fast boot oem command. I will do it this weekend and report back how it went. Thanks!

Hey Gray... ok I was able to relock... however flashing to the RUU from the link you sent.. it didn't work. After I loaded the zip file onto the SD card.. it does nothing when I boot to bootloader... reads zip and comes back and says no image.
The question I have it since I never loaded a ROM or another RUU can I just wipe it from inside the menu and start from start?

Well now that doesnt work. When I try to hard reset the message comes up that it is reseting.. then boots to hboot. It wont factory reset. I tried factory resetting from hboot and it does nothing.
The PH98IMG is not on my sd card... I actually took it out.
Can you reset from a command prompt? Hopefully that will work.

No.
Is your bootloader relocked?
Yes from hboot i have the "tampered relocked" message but it does say relocked. What command do you use to reset?

You either have to flash an RUU or factory reset.
Try this RUU:

Ok and since this is an .exe file...do I do it the same way? Drop it on to the SD card? Do
i have to rename it? Actually I found that I just download it to computer and run it.. does it matter the location of the file?
