Sorry beforehand, my english is bad and this may be a long read.
I know that on the noob video you ask us to keep it short, but i think it won't hurt to explain what i need, what i found, and what i don't get yet.
Ok, i've got my SE LWW about a month ago, unfortunately it has bootloader locked and it's unlockable.
Then i decided to start experimenting.
Tried a few Custom ROMs, and they were great, but some lacked a function i liked from Stock ROM, or lacked my languaje (spanish).
This is my 1st Android phone, i come from a "long line" of Symbian devices, so i was used to make custom firmwares for my devices. I used to change stock wallpapers, settings and apps so everytime i had to do a hard reset (or factory restore) everything would be as i wanted, so i wanted to do about the same with Android.
So where do i began?
Searching the net, of course, i found myself directed to this place many times, and i found many "Make your Own Custom ROM" topics, but most all of them were for different devices or different Android versions.
So, i followed some tutorial on making a custom rom.
Took the Stock ROM, renamed it to .zip and extracted the files there.
"Alas, the system folder is a file named "system.sin" instead, what do i do with this?"
Extract it with ftf extractor, obviously
Great, i now see all the files suppossed to be on the system folder
Now i can edit its contents
...but wait a second...
1.- Ok, now i have some APKs i want to have on my cellphone, and deleted many, while updating some that have updates... but now... how do i make this into a system.sin file again?, or just making a system.zip and using CWM should work?
2.- Do i need to use some special setting for the .zip file, which i have to rename to .ftf?
Key questions are these, plus some:
3.- can i get a custom rom like this to be flashed directly by using Flashtool?
4.- can it have CWM and Root too?
5.- if it can be "this easy", what is the kitchen used for, then?
Now for what i have:
Sony Ericsson wt19i Live With Walkman
Stock ROM 4.1.B.0.587 (ICS)
Rooted using DarkLords' Zerg method and XPeria Root rev.4
So far, i've deleted many built-in apks, and i got around 100mb (or so) "system" space available on the phone
i know i can make some backup files with CWM, but to get it to work after a "failed experiment" means flashing, then rooting, then flashing again, and getting back the root with ICS, that's why i'd like to make a Custom ROM which could be flashed from Flashtool directly
Thanks for reading, and sorry, it sure was a lot (and there was so much else i wanted to ask...)

I tried Real ICS and Real MIUI
Real ICS lacked some stuff i liked from Stock Rom, but it's a great Custom ROM, it replaces many original features with better and upgraded versions.
Real MIUI replaces pretty much everything, making your phone look a totally new and different device, but this version doesn't has spanish as languaje. I don't quite mind the lack of it, but my girlfriend complained she wasn't able to use it
Have you tried android kitchen?

Checked it before, but file structure doesn't match. May try it later, but would this method allow me to install the ROM from Flashtool?
or i'd have to use CWM to flash?
Thanks for your reply

Copy, paste and fix from Real ICS:
Copy the zip file to your SD card
Reboot your device in CWM
Make a full data wipe-factory reset
Wipe cache and Dalvik cache
Choose install zip from sd card
Choose the zip file you copied earlier
Wait for installation to finish, reboot and follow the sony setup wizard through the rest of the setup process
Reboot again and enjoy!
The process is pretty much the same for all custom roms with locked bootloader
I mean if there are any custom Roms for locked bootloader phones wt19i,sory I'm new to XDA... If there are any pls give me their names or links

Yes. There are... You can search xda forums.. But generally most Roms require unlocked boatloader..

I've tried mostly all Roms including cm7.2/9/9.1 , minicm, real ics / lite.... Out of these I've found cm9.1 to be most stable and light.. On the other side real ics lite is an excellent feature packed Rom but its resource demanding.

Then just download the rom from development section and copy to sd card.
Reboot phone in cwm and see in the thread, what has to be formatted or wiped (like data, cache or system)
After that, choose "install zip from sdcard" > "choose zip" and install the zip.
Reboot and enjoy
I'll let you know it by tomorow weather it is succesfull or not

Try MiniCMSandwich, that's got a very different UI. That's abnormal...
First, if you're trying to build your own ROM, look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=560271
This will reduce the size of your apps. Since I see you care about free space.
Take a LWW ROM and just edit it to your liking. e.g. change build.prop, updater-script etc.
Or, if you extracted /system form ftf file. Take another ROMs zip, and delete it's /system folder and replace with yours.
It worked for me. It's easier if you find a zip without aroma installer though.
Hope that helps
Hi!
I'm currently running FXP137 CM9.1 on my LWW, but there are some stuff I would like to have from stock ROM.
To put it simple, from Cyanogenmod I would like to have the lockscreen, customization options (like home screen grid size, notification bar toggles, etc...) and the buttons on the bottom of the home screen rather than the 4 corner docks and from stock, I would like to have all the apps (camera, calculator, calendar, phone, messages, etc...), widgets, equalizer, xLoud and Xperia theme. Something that would look more or less like this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796272
What directions should I take? And should/can I start from CM9 or from Sony stock ROM?
Thanks in advance!

Why would you want to do that, you can just restore the backup.
Dont forget the backup holds lots of personal info on it, so you dont want to share it....
Just curious as to why you would want to do this?
The data portion contains sensitive info right??? Not the system.img isn't it
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I wanna make my own Rom and share it with ppl... I've added toggle panel to notification bar, changed animations in framework-res, changed icons in systemui, did some build.prop tweaks, some out-of-memory manager tweaks, took some apps from the arc s firmware, removed some preinstalled apps and added some apps to system partition itself (like browser replaced with opera, titanium backup included in system partition, applied adblocker...) and many other things.... I hope that qualifies me to call it my *own* ROM????

Oh ok,
You need to use sdk and pdk software to make your own roms, I am sure its much easier that way.
Just google them and download
PS, just themeing a custom rom doesnt make it your own, but developing from the stock rom in any way does, especially if it more than just the UI. Circular battery mod and other UI's are easily achieved in UOT, but changing OOM values and build.prop is different, as long as you know the benefits you are making
I've made changes to stock only. Not on anyone else's custom ROM. Yes did make some oom changing scripts. (umm.. Yep I guess I know what changes and what advantages. Lol) also removed some stock-ware added better alternatives like go sms n dialer in place of stock ones.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the android sdk. I'll get the pdk... But what after that?? How to make the zip file of the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just pull (with adb or root explorer) everything you changed then make a flashable zip of that. No need to post a whole rom, just call it a mod or theme...
Btw I'm not even a proper firmware-tinkerer.. Far from being a dev or anything. I'm just a humble 12th grade student. Still pretty much in my teens.. Lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ok that's a good idea now... Lemme see if I can pinpoint which files I need to pull and which I can do without.... But about the zip thing.... I never really understood the certificate thingy... That meta.inf and all... What is that about??? Basically how to create a flashable zip??
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Same here, I am not a dev, but I teach 12 grade!!!
As far as I know that can be done with apk manager, the update zips I use are generally borrowed from other zips, as I only mod things others have done for myself, or make them in UOT.
Try getting in touch with a dev called DooMLoRD
He is very good and friendly (Also from your neck of the woods) but he is very busy. He helped me out inmy noob days, and I am sure he will help you if he has the time.
Ya he did seem helpful.... I know him of course... Anyone who aspires to overclock their xperia knows him....lol... But ya he is busy usually.... And he's more of a deep dev...tinkering with kernels....not the one to make custom ROMs and all isn't it???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So what I can do is take the zip of someone's rom, keep the certificate in it. Remove all other files, add mine into it and voila I'm done???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I've made a lot of modifications to my stock rom, and would like to share it.... so is system.img a valid way to share my *own* rom or mod ? (valid as in technically feasible? means ppl can d/l it n flash using recovery n use it?)
my main concerns are... will it boot on someone else's device? (i tried it myself... total wipe + clean stock instal, followed by flashing only my backed up system.img, *didn't flash data.img, only system* it took an eternity to boot first time but it ran)
second concern... system.img doesn't have any personal data right? logs, msgs etc are in data partition i guess??

i think is the battery or the simcard, the phone actually restart when i am using any app. Example y run angry bird he may restart at the begining or when i get out of the game. Or just searching some contact on the phone. He restart a lot when the simcard is inserted. When is out of the phone he restart some times only or just the screen goes black and i have to remove the battery to restart the phone
Another thing last night i was charging the phone and it was 100% and after a while the phone charge was going down little by little and when he got 50% i disconnected after another while it was 79% and going up...

You really need to use SEUS to reinstall stock gb
Then try again
2.1 straight to x10s will cause problems
SEUS seems to do the best factory reset known to man,
When I have big rom problems, wiping all caches / partitions, then reinstalling custom roms causes problems for me
So before I flash I always stock first
Seems most problems I have then disappear

Sorry, i ll brief it a bit.
I have an s2 , in which i wish to flash paranoid android. I found out a method in these forums which allowed us to root our phone without installing cwm recovery (i.e. cwm through odin). It required only a flashable zip which could be flashed via the stock recovery. After flashing the zip, i was in cwm interface which was temporary and was gone after a reboot.
Wanted to know if this temporary custom recovery could make a nandroid backup and flash paranoid.

Pre-Rooted kennel.
Ps: 99.9% of all custom ROMs for galaxy s2 comes with Pre-Rooted kernels
Happy Independence Day!
Regarding the kernel whose link u gave, i have some doubts
1. Will it work on a stock rom ?
2. Is it also pre rooted ?
3. Can it be flashed via the stock recovery ?( if yes, i wont need to flash the temporary cwm)
Sorry for annoying you, but i am new to samsung

Hello. This is my first post here so forgive me if i done or post it wrong.
In short i have updated phone from gb 6.0.B.1.564 to Ics 6.1.1.C.1.0 via pcc and it is from then acting very poorly in comparison to before, very laggy and slow in general. What id like to know now is what is best to do? I have heard there is some new latest firmware released for xu ics, is it possible for me to get that, and is it improved a bit performance? If nothing, can someone pls point me how to downgrade back to gb, or maybe suggest something else? Just so you know, my phone is not rooted and it has locked bootloader.
Thank you all in advance

Hi zig , firstly I will not suggest u to downgrade ur phone secondly do one thing to make ur phone processing faster.... Go to settings>apps>all> click the app and on the top right u will see an option ''disable'' , disable the preinstalled apps which u don't use like ''Google +,email, gmail, talk,fb,office suite, top contacts, retail demo, recommender, maps ,Google chrome, exchange services'' restart ur phone and then use..... Let me know how is it working.
Yea there is one more new update of Xperia u and that new ICS 6.1.1.B.1.54 version is good....it's bug free ,I would like u to upgrade it.

Hey tyvm for a quick answer. I have done what you told me, except ofc the ones i use and exchange services, cos i dont know what it is, but im guessing its for incoming mails or messages maybe. It improved a bit, but it is still kinda laggy. The thing that is worrying me is a battery draining, it goes down rly fast. I know about the update you mentioned, but there seems to be even more new then that 6.1.1.b1.100. In any case how can i upgrade to those, be it new or older firmware? They are not listed in pcc, it sais its up to date with this last one i did. Thank you again for help.

To get a real lag reduction and battery drain issue, I suggest you to root atleast (without unlocking your boot loader which does not void your warranty).
For that you need flashtools from there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933985
However, B.1.100 is slightly better than the previous version
So to try that, flash it with flashtools, you can find the download link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974430
You do not require root to flash Sony stock ROMs.
Another better alternative is to flash custom ROMs for locked bootloader,
My personal suggest, go for SlimCM ROM, pretty stable and snappier.

So in essence i can flash newest stock B.1.100 without root, and not losing the waranty (subquestion only unlocking the bootloader voids waranty, but root no? I am asking this cos i do seem to remember but i might be wrong that root can also void it, and i wanna be sure . But if i decide to go for custom ROM which you suggested do i need root for that? With root i can remove loads of stuff which i cannot do now, so thats why the lag is much lesser?

Yes you can attain root access without unlocking your boot loader.
Use flashtool method or Bin4ry's method.
Again yes, you can flash SONY STOCK fw using flashtools (without root or unlocking) in flashmode (just keep in mind to "exclude TA")
Once you are rooted you can install apps such as greenify that really helps to last the battery longer.
Also you could remove the bloatware and other useless apps.
Or you even you can make choices to install Custom ROMs for locked bootloaders. Just check the development section.
This is my personal suggest: SlimCM ROM.
Though its CM9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143750
See the instructions for locked boot loaders.
Sent from my Xperia U using xda app-developers app
To root fw C.1.0 or any later versions, you need to
-flash the kernel alone of B.1.0.
-follow root procedure by flashtool or Bin4ry method.
-Then flash back the corresponding kernel of the ROM.
Done

Ty for all the suggestions. I rly appreciate it. Think i will go for what u suggested first, slimCM. I checked it and it looks nice.. Althou some things are not so clear to me. In both instructions, for slimCM and in patch for locked bootloader it says wipe data or factory reset in recovery. What is recovery? And it also mentions to do the backup of my current ROM. How shall i do that. Wipe data and factory reset means all data gone from phone so i should backup at least photos, music and sms-es to my pc or some app.

That's where you can find recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020897
CWM recovery is required to flash custom ROMs or MODs etc.
You can find the wipe data, cache options in the recovery menu. Just back up your contacts, messages and things.
Nothing from SD card will be lost.
Do carefully patch the ROM as per the instructions to make it into locked bootloader.
Copy that zip file in SD card and enter CWM recovery
-flash ROM
Done !

heyyy
U can root ur device with out touching bootloader dats pretty easier....
but remember after rooting u need to install cwm recovery bcz its used to flash custom roms and rem u can also take take backup of ur entire rom
if anything goes wrong during flashing custom u can easily restore ur device to normal..... by using back up....
flash b.1.10 rom bcz it can be easily rooted by using flashtool......
So finally the process is root first, second recovery and finally flashing rom of ur choice.....
There are so many ROMS in dev section for locked bootloader......
njoyyyyyyyyy............
I ll attach CWM recovery files download and extract.... In the extract folder double click install(.bat file) make sure device connected with debugging mode on..... accept all superuser request on device........aft rooting u ll get super user app in apptry
PM if any difficulty

So i have backed up all the data (music, photos etc) on the pc. Tomorrow i will get on doing what you guys suggested. So to get it all confirmed, first do the root with flashtool, checkin superuser and rootme, and then i will be rooted. Then cwm recovery install, then applying the patch for locked bootloader for slimCM ROM, then i go back in cwm, make backup of current ROM and then wipe data, and then flash the rom.. That be the order? Is there any thing i should take special care of?

It will be lot better if you try it with Win 7 as Win 8 + Flashtool drivers don't go well together as 8 allows only signed drivers to get installed.
Though there's a thread on how to install Flashtool drivers on win 8.

Here's the Rooting Process for you.
This Rooting guide applies to all FW versions above B.1.10. (i.e. B.1.54/C.1.0/B.1.75/B.1.189/B.1.100)
1) Open Flashtool.
2) Click the Flash icon.
3) Select Flash Mode. (Make sure USB Debugging is ON in your Mobile Settings before connecting to PC)
4) Select & Flash the B.1.10 kernel. Then Reboot.
5) Select the Un-Lock icon and choose your preferred SU app & proceed.
6) Follow the on-screen instructions.
7) Now you have rooted your device.
8) Flash the kernel of your respective FW from the FTF file through Flash Mode and let the device reboot.

After days of looking for a solution to the problem of every 2011 device I've finally managed to do it!
Many of you wanna enable ART functionnality in 4.4.2 because the device start "flying" with such a pill. So I've managed to modify the Int2Ext v2 script to run it lagless and conserving initial performance.
Prerequesites:
1. You have to make an EXT partition (I've got an EXT4 1 GB partition)
2. Flash the script BEFORE the first boot (like any other package such as gapps).
3. (Optionnal) Reboot once, and enable ART in developement menu.
4. Enjoy!
What it does exactly?
1. Increase the readahead cache for your sd to 4096 kb
2. Transfers /data/app & /data/app-private to the ext partition of the SD
3. Everything that a CronMod-INT2EXT script does

Small FAQ & corrected verision to avoid signal loss:
nos1609 said:
1. Tested in couple with Vanir/Carbon - unstable under ART, Dalvik recommanded
Tested on PAC working like a charm on both ART & Dalvik
2. To avoid reboots / FCs try flashing ART compatible gapps
3. About the "internal memory waste" Guys, please check the description of what the script is doing and what folders are moved onto EXT-partition. If everything would so simle as that, even ART mode couldn't overcome the laggynes and the lack of performance after moving everything to sdcard. The script is moving ONLY APKs to the EXT-partition. Dalvik, libs etc remains on the 470 Mb NAND to conserve initial performance. But enen that amount of free space is not enough to run ART experience at it full potential. because of very large dalvik-cache size.
4. EXT partition. Just google, XDA contains tons of manuals and tools to create one. If you'd like to simply try ART 512 MB one will be enough, you'll reach the internal NAND limitation. If you want using it in normal mode you can make the partition as large as you like.
5. Concerning the loss of signal, I think there are some lack of time for the device itself to get the new location of the files, so try this new package.
