I have the virginmobile HTC EVO V 4g and I can't send or receive text messages! I can receive multimedia messages, make and receive phone calls, and surff the web just no text....I have contacted virginmobile and they can't seem to help me with this. This may not be the right place to post this question, but of anybody can help, please to. I've tried everything from updating profile, pulling battery out putting it back in resetting. Nothing works...losing hope right now.

Dial ##CLEAR# on your phone. This will take you to the EPST menu. Select the menu from the upper-right hand side of the screen, and then select
"reset", and then press "yes". This will reset your network by deactivating and then reactivating your device. It may take up to 10 minutes
but it should fix your problem.

Hi,
Running GSB 1.9 on my Eris.
Starting today, my phone has been switching between 3G and 1X, and seems to stay on 1X more.
I've seen posts saying that I should update the PRL by dialing *228 opt 2. Problem though. After dialing *228, I never get the option to open up the keypad to enter option 2. All I get is a red screen with "Activate your phone" at the top, with a note "Please wait while your phone is being programmed." There is a status bar under this note, a "Speaker" button and "Back" button at the bottom. No phone buttons work on this except for the "Home" and "Back" button.
As I'm typing this, I called once more. After waiting on hold, it automatically went into programming and gave me a note that it may take 15 minutes to work.
Nothing's worked yet.
Any help?
For all of the non-HTC based ROMs (Froyo and GB in particular), if you long-press on menu, it should pop up the keyboard. From there you can change to the numeric entry and press 2 (or 1 if you want to activate the phone.)
Since I can't remember the last time I dialed *228, I decided to give it try.
And long pressing on menu worked as doogald said.
Thanks
You can also insert two 2 second pauses followed by 2 (for roaming update) from the dialer before hitting send.
Curious, did reprogramming help the switching from 1x to 3g?

or dial *22899 and that will do the same as selecting option 2 when dialing *228

thanks. i did not know this. much easier than long pressing menu, sometimes it doesnt recognize the numbers properly.
Did *228 fix the 3g 1x problem for you? It did not for me, but flashing a newer radio seemed to do the trick.

No, it seemed to fix itself the next day or two. Must have been a Verizon problem.
I put the TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom on my Fascinate, and have found that if I dial *228, once the call connects I'm left without a dial pad...and thus can't access the activation process.
Anyone else notice this, or is it just me?
tap the home key, phone icon, return to call in progress, then the dial pad icon. its a known glitch on ics roms.
Didn't work. After pressing home and then the phone icon, I tried both "Return to call in progress" and "Use touch tone keypad", but both just returned me to the call without a dial pad nor button to bring it up.
actually dont hit return to call in progress, just select use touchtone keypad...you might have to do it twice.

No, still not getting it. After hitting home and then the phone button, my screen shows three choices: Use touch tone keypad, Return to call in progress, and Add call. The first two just return me to the keypad-less call in progress. "Add call" does in fact give me a keypad, but the tones it generates are not heard by the call in progress. I tried hitting "1" and then the call button from this point, but it just went back to my home screen. I then had to hit the phone button, either of the first two options to get back to the activation call, and then the "Back" button to hang up.
If I don't hang up in time, my phone gets completely deactivated...no phone or 3G capability, meaning that I can't even dial #228, never mind pressing "1" after dialing it, but fortunately rebooting the phone restored the activation.
I've never been able to use *228 on any MTD rom. It does all the same stuff you mentioned. So long as your connection is working, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, I feel reassured. Hopefully *228 activation won't ever be needed again.
Yeah but Option 2 from *228 is a good thing. You have two options, but I'm only going to bring up one since it's the easiest.
*22890 ---> This will program/activate your phone.
*22891 ---> This will update your roaming capabilities.
No need to hit other buttons after dialing. Let it finish, and reboot your phone.
Excellent!

You can always do *228,,,,,2 The commas are pauses. The screen will say that the updated roaming was not successful, but the message says it is. You can also replace the 2 with a 1 to do activation (however it's not needed if you have data as others have suggested).

I used this way by setting the (*228,,,,1,,,555-555-5555#,,,,5555#) all of the numbers I needed to push, I made into a contact. Then I just pushed the contact.

Did you see my post on the first page, it seems easier.
I did see your post, but that option doesn't work for my phone for whatever reason.
Randomly this evening, my phone has decided that it no longer wants to send any MMS messages. I can send SMS messages just fine, but MMS messages do not go through. They sit for a while, and then it just says that the text message cannot be sent.
Anyone have any suggestions that don't involve factory resetting?

You have 2 options.
1)do master reset and retest it.
2) call your cell carrier.
I had a similar problem a few nights ago. All I had to do was reboot it.
That's all I need to do for a few random glitches.

Do you have data disabled? I noticed when data is disabled, mms do not go through..
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk
No, data was enabled. I was able to browse the internet and such, so I don't think it was a connectivity problem. But it's fixed now, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Okay. When I said it was fixed that was actually a lie. It's started doing it again. I have no idea what caused it, but it will sometimes work and sometimes not. Any ideas anyone?

Will it be the APN settings problems?
In some country you have to set your mms APN manual
Mine does the same thing. A restart is only a temporary fix because it has done it again a day later or so. I have not found anything to fix it yet.
I am on 4g. Not on wifi. unlimited messages.

Try this on dialpad
*#*#4636#*#*
Wacth phone services
Then tap second right update buttom
It must be filled with Service Center Number, for sms/mms data. If you get 'update error', you may have a bug in system that prevents it from correctly setup of older sim cards (mostly cutted ones), if so, buy a new micro sim. It's cheap and solves a lot of small problems
Thanks, and if helps any way, share the learnin'

I tried this but every time I entered the code nothing popped up. But I think I've figured it out. It appears to only happen when I'm connected to a WiFi network. So I guess I just have to disconnect from WiFi if I want to send an MMS message.

I had the same issue, tried a number of things to fix it. Called Verizon and apparently it's a known issue that they expect to be fixed with the upcoming GB update. Other than that the only way I was able to workaround was installing Go SMS Pro, which sent MMS messages fine.
I figured out what the problem is! It stems back to the problem the Razr has with switching between 3G and 4G. In my house, I have to use WiFi because I live on the edge of a 4G service area. I get maybe one bar of 4G service, which without WiFi, pretty much refuses to do anything having to do with data. Apparently, even though WiFi is enabled, the MMS messages are NOT being transmitted over WiFi. So instead, it attempts to send them over 4G cellular data and fails because of the poor reception in my house. Switching the phone from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only before sending the messages (my signal reception jumps to 4 bars) allows it to send without failing.

Yea, they ended up going through but 5-6 hours later. Shouldn't of been a surprise being Sprint and all, but oh well.

The problem might be due to the "mmsc url address" being incorrect. There a couple of ways checking to see if it has the correct one.
First you will need your "MSL/SPC". There are several ways of obtaining that. If you are rooted all you need to do is download "MSL Reader" View attachment 1015939. Install and run.
If you are not rooted you will have to call Sprint and ask for the MSL/SPC of your phone or download Workshop to read it. (If you are going to try using Workshop you should know what you are doing as the process for doing this will take long to explain and is quite boring). Those r your options in order to obtain your MSL/SPC.
Now that you have your phones MSL you need to go into the dialer and hit ##3282#. This will prompt and menu with 2 options "View Mode, Edit Mode". Select "Edit Mode" and the next screen will ask for your MSL. Enter it and hit OK. Now in the following menu you need to select "Advanced". Once you are in the "Advanced" menu you will see your phones MEID, ESN etc, scroll all the way down until you see "MMS Server URL". It will be blank but don't worry, the 3D never shows what is store in that field. All you have to do now is re-enter Sprint's MMSC address. Select the MMS Server and type "http://mms.sprintpcs.com", obviously without the (") quotes. Hit Ok and then hit Menu button and "Commit Modifications". The phone will prompt with a message saying "No Changes Have Been Made", just ignore that and hit Back button until you reached Home Screen. Now reboot the phone and wait a few minutes before you try sending MMS pics. Make sure you delete any pictures that got an error sending on your previous attempts.
Note: if this doesn't fix your mms problem then its your APN settings that are incorrect. For those cases I will right a different instructions if needed.
Hope this helps. Cheers to all
everytime someone sends me a text pic I click download and nothing happens. It used to work perfectly but now its not. Do I have enable something in the options because im really confused.
You should be able to long press the image and select "save attachments" after that put a check in the box of the attachment(s) you want to save them click save or download. This is about as far as my advice goes. But it works for me every time.
Stock everything.
I had this problem on another phone recently and it was due to the apn settings. Do a search for your carriers apn settings and make sure they're there. Sometimes there's a specific mms apn setting you need to add

if that fixed it, that is good but I cant imagine that your smartphone is rendered useless for receiving messages or media while on wifi.
