So I got the extended battery a few days ago, and I love the extra battery life, but now I seem to be paying a price for something I didn't buy.
Now I can only receive 3G data. I was on the global RUU 4.03.605.2 for the first part of the day, then flashed Vigor360 v1.1, then back to 4.03.605.2, then to 3.14.605.12 (OTA) and from beginning to end I never started with 4G, never ended with 4G.
I also am having data drops from hell, on any firmware.
Any ideas? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Probably just got a backplate. Third party backplates are hit and miss

Their right even the OEM extended battery back plate is terrible. See the gold strips on the inside of your stock backplane? That's your antenna. I sold my extended and switch between two regular instead. I bought an external lith-ion charger, it helps a lot.
sent from my s-off reZound rockin' viperRez Rom on global ICS firmware
My OEM extended backplate is fine. The antennas in it are coated in something, but they're still there and in the same places.
But, yea, it's probably the backplate. I'd take it back and swap it.
Well, it is just held on with tension, so some connections may not be connected.

Which external charger did you get? I returned the extended one after not liking the feel in my pocket when the phone was new, I switch between batteries but havent been able to find an external charger I knew for sure worked with the oem battery, the verizon/htc one was kinda pricey at the time....I should probably check again now that the phone has been out a while, but would still appriciate your info.
Thanks

Haven't seen too many others comment about this, but I just thought I would share. After upgrading to a Seidio 1900mAh battery, my Evo 3D has been randomly shutting itself down. When I first got the Evo 3D and was inserting the battery for the first time, I noticed that there was a tiny bit of play after the battery has been placed in the phone. I looked at the contacts for the battery and saw that it *might* be possible, under certain circumstances, for the battery to not make full contact with the terminals. I only had my stock battery for a short time, so I didn't notice the phone power itself off, but that all changed after getting the seidio battery.
What I did to make the battery contact the terminals better was to cut a small strip of rubber band and place that so it stands vertically right below the SD card (it doesn't actually touch the SD card). After I did this, I placed the battery back in and it makes much better contact with the battery terminals and fits more snug, kind of like the OG EVO 4G had So far, I haven't had any random shutdowns since doing this.
i cut a strip out of a business card and put it in at the bottom of the battery(opposite of the sim card) and that has been my fix. i was gonna try and exchange it for the problem, but the dent in my metal surround shows it has been dropped.

I'm not sure if it's an actual defect of the phone or the battery for the phone. If they manufacture the battery about 1 - 2 mm longer in length, I think it would fix the problem completely.
no problem here

A loose battery connection can cause a lot of glitches, random reboots, slow charging, etc. The second week I had my E3D I noticed the battery was a little loose so I ended up with 2 layers of business card opposite the contacts. The way I see it, it may not help but it sure can't hurt.

I didn't notice that... my e3d charging at very slow rate. now I gotta check my just to make sure i didn't get a defeated one.
I think some of you guys missed that he's not using the stock battery.
After a couple weeks of fixing the loose battery, I can confirm that it does work like a charm. Every week, I would get a handful of random shutdowns which required pulling battery to get the phone back on. With my simple rubber band 'mod' I have only had the phone power down once, and it seems as if I am getting much better battery life as well.

Nope, shouldn't hurt the Evo 3D at all. I would highly recommend switching to a rubber band if possible. It makes the battery fit perfectly without any risk of scratching the inside of the device.

A loose or dirty connection is like putting a resistor in the circuit. The voltage goes down and the current goes up. So to me shimming the battery is preferable to a non removable battery and random glitches. Thanks for your concern about scratching, good point, but I could care less what the battery compartment looks like as long as I have a good connection.
I had the same issue with my aftermarket 3500 battery. I ended up cutting a small sliver of business card, placing it on the bottom and left side of the battery and then securing it to the battery itself with electrical tape. This way when I remove the battery to put my stock one back in (which is my daily battery) I don't have to worry about anything.

Sorry to hear about your aftermarket battery It's good that you found a 'fix' for it by making it more snug. How long have you had the 'fix' in place, and have you had any random reboots or shutdowns afterwards?

Yeah I just happened to have a huge bag of rubber bands that I bought like 5 years ago, lol. I probably shouldn't worry about it either, but unfortunately I am OCD about my phone, among other things
holy shiz. never would have guessed it was a loose battery, however. you are correct. thank you
Thanks for you then for rubber .
i was going to change the phone to end of this proplem .
So here's my dealio. Last night, noticed my rezound shut off completely and refused to charge. Upon pulling battery and putting it back in, and plugging in charger, got the orange blinking light.. Battery lost all charge apparently :/ on cleanrom DE Btw. Then I was on the way to work and it happened again while plugged into charger in the car. I get to work and get it working, and toggle airplane mode, and BOOM 4g signal. I should probably state that at this point, no one had informed that 4g would be coming anytime soon to Biloxi area so its a welcome addition for me. 18mbps is about 16mbps better than the DSL service I have at home lol! I'm just wondering if I should be worried about the restarts and battery issues, or if its the rom or the tower adjustments?
Phone. Signal would never do that. Maybe do a full wipe and reinstall. Need firmware of course or old patch.

I had a battery problem where my battery went completely dead and I had to rig the battery up to my dinc to get it to charge enough for my Rezound to even give the blinking light. I think we might have a batch of defective batteries or chargers. I'm on stock so I don't think it's a ROM issue.

There are probably at least two issues going on here. One may be the kernel. The other probably has to do with the recovery you are using. If either of you who are having charging issues is using clockworkmod recovery, there is a well documented charging issue described in a few threads here.
The long & short is that you should flash Amon Ra recovery if you experience the charging issue after a full battery discharge. I understand that some people have had success charging a depleted battery with a separate wall charger.
I have been meaning to test this for a while but have had a busy few weeks recently at work.

Good luck with that ... just please remember that 'new' phones can have dead pixels, broken speakers, or excessive heat problems (i.e., shoots up to 130 degrees simply by letting the initial downloads [built in apps getting updated). Test your refurb VERY carefully before you unlock it.

Have been running the same combo for about a month with the kernel included in the ROM. I run my phone dead all the time and have never run into any charging issues. Is your battery a 3.7 or 3.8 volt?
I agree. Be weary of refurbs. I went through 5 different phones before the Rezound that VZW claimed were "new".

Its almost as if tech support knows me personally now.. I've been through about 8 thunderbolts for various issues, 3 revolutions, and now I think i'm receiving my 3rd rezound today? First one had miscolored capacative buttons and a bad headphone jack. This one has a loose connector, but at least the colors were good, no dead pixels and no overheating issues. If the next one has any issues whatsoever I'm calling again to complain and get a BNIB replacement device, because I'm tired of receiving everyones old crap

That is the only time I wish I had an iPhone. Each one same as the last. Except the iPad 2, with the major screen bleeding problem.
Apple's quality control is amazing, quality in the Android world is just a goal that can never be achieved.

You mean like Biloxi ms right? If so. STOKED! You know. Cspire is supposedly getting 4g at the end of the year. You think they will pay to use verizons, even in home area?
Btw I hope CSpire dies a painful death.
Keehee. So I rebooted my phone this morning. Just cuz I hadn't in a couple of days. After booting my data wouldn't come on... So naturally I toggle the radio settings. Hit LTE/CDMA and bam! 4G on the Mississippi gulf coast. Sweeet. It's kinda off and on though. I think they are still working on it
I have two OEM extended batteries and both will cut out when device is even slightly bumped. Just putting the phone is the holster turns phone off and you have to power back on. I got a replacement and it did the exact same thing. Standard battery works fine though. Anybody else have this problem?
They don't fit right then. Isn't making proper contact somewhere take off your battery cover and move the battery and see if it reboots. If it does fold up a small piece of paper and shove where it will stay contacted forever. Hope that helps
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Just tried the paper. No go. I have had both the batteries for almost 5 months now and one started doing it, now the other is doing it. I didn't realize it was the battery until the replacement did the same thing. Had to find my standard battery and that works fine. Can't make it through the day, but at least my phone stays on when I set it down or put it back in the holster. VZW trip today I guess. Glad I still have the original phone to demo with. Nothing says rooted like S4!
The batteries shrunk yes it sounds strange but possible. Verizon should be able to get you one that works
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
If you've already gotten a replacement then is likely not the battery shrinking. It's more likely that the battery door isn't holding the battery in place (im assuming they sent the replacement battery sans new back cover) try puttting something between the door and battery.

I have several of the original Incredible batteries that are 3.7VDC, 1300mAh, 4.81Whr lying around and with Sandy coming for a visit here in NJ, I was wondering if these can be used as backups for the 4G LTE Incredible (3.8VDC, 1700mAh, 6.46Whr). I do expect to lose power since we do for all major storms and I have a generator but would be nice if these can be used in this phone. If so, could these be charged in this phone as well? Thanks!

If his generator fails, he'll have no way to charge it anyway.
I don't know if the Incredible battery is the same physical size, but if it works, great. I'd have to spend some time finding my original Incredible, then taking my cases off both phones, then switching out the batteries to check.

don't know either, the inc2 batteries are the same as the 4g except for the mah rating.
Well, after getting them charged up in my son's Inc, I decided to try one in my 4G phone and while they are the same physical size they won't fit. The tabs on the contacts end are different. Damn...

You should be able to use those batteries. People that switched from the original incredible to the incredible 2 reported being able to use their old batteries. It did require them to file down the tabs on the old batteries but after that they fit fine and worked. Since we discovered recently that the incredible 2 batteries work in the 4g it should work out fine for you. Not sure about charging but in your case you'll probably want to limit you generator to essential things.
Btw during large storms like that where you lose power, how does Verizon's network hold up? If the towers lose power doesn't that mean the network goes down in that area too?
Thanks! We've lived through plenty before but they seem to think this one might pack more of a wallop. I travel a lot and was suppose to head up to Boston for the week but decided to cancel all my appointments today. No reason to risk one's safety for a job. It looks like Pittsburgh will be getting some of this as well!

I was thinking of doing that but one thing I'm concerned about is the label and contacts placement on battery. On the original Dinc, the contacts are opposite (left-to-right) of the 4G. This could be why the older batteries won't charge.

In the past, it hasn't been too big of a problem and even our cable has worked when running on generator. Of course you never know what the next storm will bring. Last spring we were out of power for 5 days and Freehold 8 miles away was over 10 days. I had neighbors lined up to take showers (everyone here is on a well). My generator runs the well, one furnace, frig and a couple of circuits of lights. I won't let the kids plug in the big LED TV so they use the old 36" tube TV that's >25 years old and going strong. The winter isn't an issue because we have a high efficiency wood insert downstairs which will run you out of the house if you open it up. The benefits of living on 5 acres and all oak trees.

No, the incredible 2 batteries that were tried in the incredible 4, which are the same size and contact location, work but only one person tried charging and reported it wouldn't work. I'm planning on confirming that tomorrow. Since the battery isn't flipped from Inc 2 to the 4g polarity shouldn't be reversed. Unless the contact polarity inside the batteries themselves are reversed, but not sure why they would do that. To me I think it's worth a try to break the tabs and try them. If they don't work you shouldn't have any problem reusing them in the og incredible.

I hear ya, I'm on well and septic but probably not as rural as what you have. Gotta love that wood burner tho. I have a simple insert in the living room that heats most of the first floor surprisingly. I'd love to put one in the basement ducted into the furnace but so far am happy with the insert. Don't have many power issues so I haven't bothered to wire a generator to the well yet.
