Well it is because I had HTC HD2 and WP7 running on it, the system is great. I don't like android a much, because it lacks basic phone skills that my old nokias had since ever. And I thought that when you can port wp7 on HD2, why it would not work on SGS2. Especially because Samsung stated that SGS2 (and later SGS3) would be in hardware meaning reference phones for WP8.

The HTC HD2 shipped with Windows Mobile 6.5. It was not originally an Android device.
it's really not possible? don't we have all the drivers to make it work? a leaked wp8 rom or official should be already out so what's the matter? bring the rom of the ativ s and port it to the s2
Just use a custom launcher there are a few out there or use a theme with a rom like cyanogenmod. And lol HD hd2 got windows ported to it made me laugh. And what basic phone skills is android missing??? Surely basic phone skills is calling and texting and every android phone can do that well

Hi guys! What you think? Is it possible to bring new Android into SGS2?
I was watching at Hong Kong conference. So I'm excited. Probably I'll buy new phone - Galaxy Nexus. So what's your opinion? Is it possible? I'm noob .
Very possible. Google Nexus is not that much of a hardware leap from the SGS2. It will come to the SII

Give it time… you'll see a ROM or two out by Thanksgiving IMO. The sdk has been released, and once the Nexus hits the market, and a system dump is "in the wild", devs will cook ROMs like crazy!

Is ICS's native GUI hardware accelerated by GPU?? From the demo, it doesn't seems perfectly smooth to me. Although Android 3.x was promoted as hardware accelerated GUI, I still find it very laggy scrolling through the homepages when there are some widgets. Putting it besides iPads, it's really a negative to Android.
Not supposed to say this maybe, but I'm underwhelmed by the UI in ICS. Had the same feeling about much of Honeycomb, really.
The UI is looking more and more Metro-like and ultra minimalist to the point of absurdity with every iteration. :shudder:
Flame away, but Gingerbread looks far better to me aesthetically. Give me the under the hood fixes, better multiprocessor support, etc. , but leave what works alone, IMO. If I wanted a Win-doze phone 7 device, I'd buy one.

No but really that's a question only Samsung can answer. We have the SDK but we need a system dump and even then who knows what hurdles we have to jump to get it to function properly.
Just keep an eye on various development sections.

Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
I guess that would be a yes, I can't see Samsung not updating a hugely popular handset (which has yet to have a real update) but I can not see them doing it anytime soon unless they drop the 2.3.5 update like they did with 2.3.4 to look at ICS.
As you know for Google phones it's immediately but for other brand it takes some time. Personally I think it will be after 3 or more months for official Samsung ROM.
They'll want to sell Galaxy Nexus for Christmas, but I don't expect Samsung to release for the SGS2 until New Year.

I just read an article regarding the Samsung Focus S, basically a Windows Phone 7 version of our beloved Galaxy S II... I was wondering if they have similar hardware inside? And will it be possible for some awesome dev to port the Mango ROM found on it to run on our GS2? Read something here on xda about dualbooting ROM's on the Galaxy S2... Wouldn't it be awesome if you could have both? The HTC HD2 is quite a old device but it can run Android, Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 perfectly... Could the same be possible for a Galaxy S2, except the Windows Mobile of course.
Please don't reply things like 'if you wanted WP7 why didn't you buy a WP7 device'. I'm extremely satisfied with my GS2 but if it were possible to see how the other side lives I'd really like to do that. Any thoughts?
As WP7 is not open source, its more or less like illegal to port it to other devices to which it is not intended to run.
The HD2 is a windows phone, so don't forget that! This is the ONLY reason it can run WP7
I also would love to have that option, if nothing else, to just try WP7. Would also be willing to donate, though I understand the awesome developers don't do it for money.

WP7 is not compatible with the Galaxy S2 proccessor. But WP7 is made almost exclusively for Qualcomm processors. So, don't ever expect a WP7 mango port for Galaxy S2.
Since WP7 is not opensource, the custom ROMs and ports are just repacked existing ROMs with minor modifications or mix and match different ROMs. Since there is no WP7 phones running on similar hardware, this is not possible on Galaxy S2.
As, for HD2, it's hardware is similar to most WP7 phones with HD7 being almost same hardware has HD2 with just minor change.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

The fact that it is possible to run WP7 has nothing to do with the fact that it is shipped with Windows Phone.
It is unlikely that it will ever be ported to our device. Sad but true. Sad because WP7 is a great platform and it would be great to have Android and WP7 on our device.
thanks for all the reply's, it is quite sad though that this will likely never happen... oh well, we still have the phone of the year...

Hello everyone,
Recently i've been planning to change my mobile and i've planned to buy an android based mobile phone.I'm a complete newbie and this will be my first experience with an android device,so i've been up for some research lately regarding different android devices and from my point of view i think samsung galaxy s2 and htc sensation xe are the best mobiles in the market at the moment and benchmarking results etc show that galaxy s2 is a better-off mobile so i'm thinking to buy this mobile but i have few questions before i buy this device.
1)During my research i saw that there are too many people doing customizations of HTC mobiles on youtube and i can hardly find ppl doing customization of that level with the samsung galaxy s2,so does this mean that there is less customization in the galaxy s2 thn the htc mobiles(sensation xe)?htcs have so many different user interfaces with different lock screens, home screens etc but in galaxy i can hardly find ppl customizing the interface, all galaxy s2 have the same dock setup as it is out of the box condition but htcs have different things like htc sense 3.0 UI..so are these customizations availble in the galaxy s2 too or only HTCs can do such customization?although both are android :s..
2)galaxy s2 has bettr frnt camera, its faster thn the sensation xe,althought xe is 1.5 ghz.galaxy has usb on the go function, faster hsdpa, better battery life,2 microphones, bttr camera (some say), where as sensation xe has beter screen res and ppi....so the main thing thats confusing me or maybe stoping me to buy the galaxy s2a is custiomization,i dont really know whether HTC Sensation xe is more customizable mobile or the galaxy s2, coz on youtube, everyone is customizing the HTCs...And my plan is to buy a mobile that has endless customization plus apps,so i will never be bored of that mobile. So from customization point of view, which is better? =)..and if galaxy s2 is quite customizable then will i be able to use all the customizations of HTC sense and other htc mobiles (like on youtube) in galaxy s2?for e.g will htc sense UI 3.0 work with galaxy s2?or htc customizations can only be done with htc mobiles and not samsung?(although both are android).recomnd me the best mobile betw these two, from customization and apps point of view.
lastly,as i told earlier that i'm a complete newbie to android devices, will i be able to customize these mobiles or they require rooting etc to be done in order to do customization(which a newbie like me might not be able to do)?cuz if it does require then i mite brick the mobile and that becomes risky.will a completely new user be able to change the roms etc etc of the device or do its very tough work for a noob?please recomend me the best mobile for me among Gs2 and sense XE ?although nexus is going gud too but i dont like its 5mp cam, galaxy and sense has 8mp :/.

Htc sense may be the only better thing than touchwiz.. But touchwiz 4 has more cutomizations as you want.. Samsung has improved ui and customization with touchwiz 4..
Simple, s2 is still best and ahead of all phones(including sensation xe)..
Buy the phone you will love it..

Not to mention sense drains your phone. Bloody hell, it just sucks the life out of it. I personally don't find it worth it for the aesthetics.
Got to agree Sense just drains the battery and imho it is too bloated.
You will need to root to be able to flash different rom's and customisation's, but it's not that difficult and there are plenty of threads with instructions on how to.

but i wonder why there are too few videos on youtube related to customization of s2 and most of the ppl are using htcs to show customizations that can be done on android..
i'm just unsure whether an android newbie like me will be able to do customizations or not..cuz if customizing becomes a prob for me after i have brought s2 then i wont be able to make the mobile more fun to use and eventually get bored and might have to shift to iphone or something later on.This will be my first experience with an android device.and i heard customizing android can lead to bricking the phone aswell(if a newbie tries to custmize)..nw that makes me nervous as its a risky game thn..
I used Sense for a long time and it is the most beautiful and functional launcher or android modification ever.
When i started to use touchwiz there were two things i noticed instantly...
Touchwiz has less abilities to personalize and is very iphone-like...
But its lightweight... very lightweight.
Nearly as light as the aosp one...
Everything has it pros and contras, you have to decide for yourself,
but i can promise you, the sgs2 is the best phone your hand could ever hold. In my opinion in ways better than the new galaxy note.
Switched from HTC Sensation to S2....its way better...

I would suggest too but if you read the OP he says he doesnt want any eyecandy WP7 and Jinav's is eyecandy :/
Not possible. Even if someone would manage to overcome all the driver problems because of the different hardware, there is one important difference: the screen resolution. The only resolution supported by WP7.5 is WVGA (800*480)- will change with WP8, but who would invest such an extreme amount of work and time for the Ace then - and the Ace just has HVGA (320*480).

Let me explain it to you very clearly.
Galaxy Ace has an 800MHz ARM11 MSM7225 processor which sucks so bad.
Lumia 610 has a 800MHz Cortex A8 MSM7230 processor which is quantum leaps better than the Ace.
Secondly, Galaxy Ace has a pathetic resolution of 320x480 while all WP75 phones currently has 480x800.
Thirdly, don't expect it to end up like HD2 because HD7 & HD2 has the exact same hardware that's why it was easier to port.
WP7 is closed source so it's nearly impossible to port WP7 unless there is a similar hardware to Ace running WP7.
So, I hope you understand the gravity of your request is simply impossible to achieve.
and the Lumia 610 is running Tango, not Mango.

Hello folks, i'm new to this forum and new to the world of smartphones. own a windows phone but have an inquiry about android which i'm sure my genious brothers here will have an answer to. if i buy an android device that has android 2.3 gingerbread and is not upgradeable to version 4.0 ICS, will the apps work fine on the phone. i have the habit of using my phones for atleast 2 years. so if i'm using an android 2.3 version phone for the next 2 years, will the apps work on my phone? like they wont ask for update of the operating system of the phone?
like in Iphone you need to have the last ios to install and use instagram. is the same case with android too?

Google will be phasing out old versions of android, and developers may make the switch to newer android systems as well. Currently, about 60-80% or more of the apps currently can support Gingerbread, since Gingerbread devices make up 50% of android devices in the world. (More info here.) I figure, your phone could probably be supported for another year.
If you are clinging on to a phone for 2 years, get a good one! Most ICS Android devices are not too expensive. If your phone is a popularly branded one (Samsung, HTC, Motorola), and if you are willing to take risks, you might be able to upgrade the firmware in your machine, unofficially though.
Now let me type this out for you....
Every time Google releases a new os they release the platform sdk along with the actual source code.... Next developers download these and start building their apps.... Assume that you are a developer and you set the build sdk to a higher android version say ICS then if your phone is on gb you can't run it so it is at the helms of the developers to decide to support an older platform or not.... And forward compability is possible in android reverse compability may or may not work.... Any doubts post it below I would be happy to respond sir...

There are plenty cheap stock ICS phones, built by LG and Samsung, such as the Galaxy Ace. Look around for the best value for money.

lulz. bad advice. the galaxy ace came default with froyo, upgradeable to gingerbread, but if anyone buys it now it'll came default with gingerbread.
but definitely not came default with ics and not upgradeable to it either, officially.
i own one previously.
imho ace is not what op is looking for. by todays standard, amv6 phone is a big no-no.
