Hi, I want to use MIUI on Samsung Galaxy S2, but I have troubles on it.
In this guide, it explains how to install MIUI: dialandroid.com/2012/01/install-miui-v4-ics-rom-on-galaxy-s2.html
However, it also notes that requires rooted phone.
I've searched rooting process around the web. The source I found tells me to use a CF-Root version according to my phone's firmware. I also looked for CF-Root versions. but none of them were seem suitable with my phone's version. (Phone settings shows my baseband version as I9100XWKE1 and Kernel version as 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE3-CL200134 [email protected]#2 )
CF-Root sites I mentioned:
jayceooi.com/2011/08/03/download-cf-root-for-samsung-galaxy-s2/
cepyazilim.com/forum/Samsung-Galaxy-S-2-i9100-Nas%C4%B1l-Root-Yap%C4%B1l%C4%B1r.html
When I *#1234#, I see my PDA: I9100XWKE3, Phone: I9100XWKE1, CSC: I9100OJVKD2.
and when I *2767*4387264636#, I see my Pcode: is GT-I9100LKATUR
I searched samfirmware.com/ but the search didn't returned any firmware.
Then I found an information tells that I may require update my phone via Kies and then my baseband version might be suitable to find a CF-Root version.
But Samsung Kies caused me a lot of problems. In my main PC, I could install the program but it didn't work. I searched internet and found an answer that Kies is a crappy program and the <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" /> lines in config files cause malfunction and need to be deleted.
OK, I deleted them, program seems starting normally. However then I've again encountered a problem, when I press "update firmware" button, Kies behaves like starting the update, but then locks up.
I've searched this problem also, and I saw that problem can change from computer to computer, so if Kies freezes up in a computer, we must try it in another computer.
OK, I installed the program in my netbook, programs seems update normally. However now I encounter weird error messages during update process.
"Timeout error"
"Failed to run firmware upgrade. Unknown error occurred."
Kies shows my Current firmware version as PDA:KE3 / PHONE:KE1 / CSC:KD2 (TUR)
and latest firmware version as PDA:LP7 / PHONE:LPS / CSC:LPB (TUR)
I really bored from all this trouble. Is there any easier way to root the phone and install MIUI?

the nearest Cf-root available for ur Kernel XWKE3 is this 'CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4.zip'
find the same in the link below, dwnld and flash the same thro ODIN to root ur phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283383&postcount=3
since some times exact matching Cf- root will not be available, hence we have to use the closet available one

hello!
I have a little problem with my phone/kies. so I wanted to upgrade my OS to ICS (it says ICS is available on the gsm arena website, can't link) after hours of trying to make it connect (turns out USB debugging had to be off) I found out that apparently there is no software update available. screenshot:
OK, I can't post pictures yet, so type the imgur website and add /TsfuB.png if you want to see a screenshot.
it's rooted, and the only other weird thing is that upon booting, there is always a yellow warning triangle on the first screen, since I bought it, before root or anything. I got it "1.5 handed" (someone got it from an "unwanted upgrade", like a reward you get from a company with points and such, didn't want it, and sold it quite cheaply with it only having been turned on once. the battery was still in it's packaging)
I also have some experience from upgrading ROMs the hard way, with my Toshiba folio 100, but I'm a little more scared with this phone, witch is actually useful with its stock ROM.
current android version according to settings menu: 2.3.4. is this the latest release you can upgrade from Kies?
I hope I have provided enough info
thanks in advance!
Read the stikies guides for using Odin to flash the stock ROM. you will learn every thing to fix your phone in 1 hour max.

thanks, but is there no way to do it with Kies? I'd prefer to use that, but if it's really necessary, I'll use Odin.

depends of the firmware you have on that phone is correct for your region and you say upon booting you have to yellow triangle means the user has flashed something already on it as you have root already guessing it has a insecure kernel or CF Root kernel if want to flash stock roms check out Intratech thread here and if you want a custom stock rom for ics go here and use neats all is stock with root and no fancy stuff done click here!!
hope this helps p.s also kies is **** only use it to add usb drivers then remove it more hassle then its worth and can cause issues with odin

Check your phone provider has upgraded to ICS ..
Kies failing then if the firmware is on the server use CHECKFUS to download and install .
Not on the server then your phone has not yet been upgraded ,

the phone was not rooted when I got it, and I'm not sure about a custom ROM, it looks normal.
also, I live in South Africa, and apparently you need a separate ROM for that. all I found for south Africa under officials ROMs is the following:

Firmware info
PDA:XWKF3
PHONE: XXKE7
I have no idea what those seemingly random capital letters and numbers mean. it doesn't give the android version, so...

I don't think there is a best method. I quite often use CF-root kernels, if available. If not available for a device or a firmware I use the method I proposed in my previous post. Just give it a try

Root XXLQB Android 4.0.4 on Galaxy S2 I9100 with ODIN
Posted on August 7, 2012
in Android Tips
Translate:
Android 4.0.4 XXLQB was released a few days ago for the Galaxy S2 I9100 and at that moment, it was not possible to root. But XXLQB root is now available with full instructions, thanks to a custom kernel. You can easily root XXLQB Android 4.0.4 ICS on Galaxy S2 I9100 using the tutorial given below. We will use SiyahKernel v4.0.
As you continue reading below, we will guide you through the entire process of how to root the official software update Android 4.0.4 XXLQB ICS on Galaxy S2 I9100 using ODIN. Remember, this tutorial is only for XXLQB Android 4.0.4. Go to Settings > About phone to verify what build you have. Please make sure you backup all your apps and personal data as this tutorial will wipe all your data. Let’s continue with the tutorial below.
Disclaimer: All the tools, mods or ROMs mentioned below belong to their respective owners/developers. We (TeamAndroid.com) or the developers are not to be held responsible if you damage or brick your device. We don’t have you on gun point to try out this tutorial
This root method tutorial is only for the official stock firmware. Custom firmwares are usually pre-rooted but even if you need to root any, flash SiyahKernel using ClockworkMod recovery.
Make sure you have installed all your USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy S II to connect it with the computer. Download Samsung Galaxy S2 USB drivers! Apart from just the USB drivers, there are a few more things that you need to take care of.
1. You need to enable USB debugging mode. This helps to connect your Android phone with the PC. See here: How to Enable USB Debugging.
2. Your phone battery should be 80-85% charged. If your phone goes off suddenly because of battery, during flashing ROMs or installing mods and updates — your phone might go dead permanently. See here: How to Check Battery Percentage.
3. Backup all your important data that you might need as soon as your flash a new ROM, or make a backup for just in case, you never know when anything might go wrong. See below on how to backup data:
Backup your SMS messages. How? –> How to Backup/Restore SMS Messages.
Backup Contacts, Gmail and Google Data. How? –> Sync with Google Sync.
Backup Call History. How? –> How to Backup Call History.
Backup WhatsApp Messages. How? –> How to Backup/Restore WhatsApp Messages.
Backup APN Settings: GPRS, 3G, MMS Settings.
Data can also be backed up using Samsung KIES for their devices, but if you backup data manually, you get more options what top choose from and it is very easy to move data across Android devices from different manufacturers, i.e moving Samsung Galaxy Note backup data to HTC One X.
4. Your phone should be factory unlocked. Additional instructions for locked Android devices will be added in the tutorial for unlocking devices.
Now, let’s proceed with the tutorial on the next page and root Galaxy S2 I9100 on Android 4.0.4 XXLQB ICS official stock firmware.
How to Root Android 4.0.4 XXLQB ICS on Galaxy S2 I9100
We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to update Samsung Galaxy S II on Android 4.0.4 XXLQB ICS with full root access. If you are used to installing official updates through ODIN on Samsung Galaxy devices, then this should not be any different for you.
Please read every line carefully and make sure you read the entire tutorial once before actually performing it on your phone.
To Remember:
This Android 4.0.4 XXLQB root tutorial is only for Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
This tutorial will wipe out all your data.
Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1 - Download SiyahKernel Root I9100XXLQB for Galaxy S2 to your computer and extract the zip file.
Step 2 - Download ODIN v1.85 which will help you to root Android 4.0.4 on Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.
Step 3 - Switch off your phone. Now go to Download Mode. How? Press and hold the Volume Down + Home buttons together, and then press the Power button till you see the construction Android robot and a triangle. Press Power again to confirm to enter into Download Mode.
Step 4 - Make sure you have your Galaxy S2 USB drivers installed on your computer.
Step 5 - Open ODIN on your computer. Connect your phone to your computer while your phone is in the Download Mode.
Step 6 - If your phone is connected successfully, one of the ID:COM boxes will turn yellow with the COM port number. This step might take some time.
Step 7 - Now select the files that you have to flash/install on your phone. These files are to be found from the extracted files in Step 1.
Click on ‘PDA’ and select the file ‘Siyah-s2-v4.0.1.tar‘.
Step 8 - In ODIN, check the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options.
Step 9 - Now click on the Start button in ODIN. Installation process will start and would take a few minutes to complete.
Step 10 - After the installation is completed, your phone will restart. After you see the home screen, unplug your phone from the computer.
That’s it. Your Samsung Galaxy S II has now been rooted on Android 4.0.4 build XXLQB software update. Check for the Superuser app in your apps list to verify.
To make sure you have correctly installed the above root method and it’s working, verify with Root Checker as given in the link.
If you run into any problems, feel free to drop us a comment below and we will reply you back ASAP with the fix or the solution to your problem.

Dear All,
My SGS2 GT-I9100 cannot be upgraded using Kies, it says firmware upgrade for this device is not supported. Currently my S2 is on Gingerbread. I manually updated to 4.0.4 using Odin but strangly there is this unwanted information stucked to the homescreen regarding my CSC and everything. Another user on this website also had the same problem and he posted a picture as well. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1876539)
I have done everything, flashed many different countries versions of android 4.0.4, cleared every memory, fixed the "/efs/imei/keystr" but in vain. The information is stucked there. However, when I flashed 4.0.3, the unwanted information was gone. Can anyone tell me why I can't use Kies to upgrade my phone or why is this information there? Any help with this guys?
Thanks
Yasir

Hi,
I have a problem with my S2 after flashing to new firmware. This is the story:
- I purchased a S2. Everything worked fine. This was the data before I did something I shouldn’t have done:
PDA: I9100XWLQ2
PHONE: I9100XXLQ6
CSC: I9100DBTLPO
Sales code: DBT (only)
Android 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version
3.0.15-1157945
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 26 16:17:36 KST
2012
Build number: IMM76D.XWLQ2
Kies worked fine (updated to the above).
- The only problem is that the firmware was DBT (German). The UI was in English but some applications were German. Nothing against Germany but I’m UK based.
- I decided to update to a new version using Odin, so I flashed:
I9100XWLPT_I9100XXLQ6_I9100XEULPA
This is where all the problems started:
Every time I boot I got a message saying the process android.(...).acore stopped
Clearing contacts cache/data did not address the problem
I read in this thread that this was due to instability of LP9 and it was advisable to use LP8.
- Flashed using Odin
Kernel_I9100XWLP8.tar.md5
I9100XWLPT_I9100XXLQ6_I9100XEULPA
- Now I have UK applications (which is good) but:
a) Every time I boot I get the message "Unfortunately, LogsProvider has stopped"
Clearing contacts cache/data doesn’t help.
b) When I try to use the phone (e.g. dial a number) I got a black screen for a minute or so and then the LogsProvider message. After that the phone application closes.
c) Kies stopped working with the message:
Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies
Current firmware version: PDA:LPT / PHONE:LQ6 / CSC:LPA (DBT)
- Flashed I9100XWLPT_I9100XXLQ6_I9100XEULPA_HOME
Same problems
Now internal data is:
Android 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version
3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 27 18:08:15 KST

Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
In ideal world I would like to have an UK, unbranded, S2 and use Kies for future updates. Having said that, considering that the phone is almost dead any suggestion to bring the S2 back to life would be great.
I’m a little bit desperate... help... please
Thanks
~sf
P.S. I did search and read post, guides, notes, comments and info. I am not sure I understood all of it but I did try - I promise.
Well....why don't you just flash an unbranded stock ROM then? You could always update it via kies or OTA.
Should get 4.0.3 tho, dancing with 4.0.4's kernel might brick your device.
what you mean by "bring back to life", It is still working right?

This was the plan:
- Install an unbranded version
- Update via Kies
I didn't work
Do you have any suggestion for a UK-unbranded fimware version (4.0.3) that should work. My understanding is that it should be
a) for GT-I9100 (obviously)
b) XEU version (aka UK)
c) Android 4.0.3
Apart from that, is there any other important requirement?
Would this be ok: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604254

Don't worry about either your country or your calls. Search for an unbranded samsung official stock 4.0.3 ROM, flash it, check it out (smoothness and all) and then try to make a call. If it doesn't fly, just flash another modem

Good news. It looks like the situation has improved after the factory reset.
I'll go to sleep now (it's 2:50am here in London/UK). Tomorrow I'll check all the functions and but it looks like I'm going are in the right direction.
I'll post tomorrow about the results.
Thanks for your help gastonw - it is really appreciated. :good:
np, go get some rest now.
[Q] Brand new S2. After flash: errors, slow... (more questions)
Bingo! The factory reset worked. Everything back to normal. I have my UK application and Kies update to:
Android version: 4.0.4
Base version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 27 18:08:15 KST

Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
The only odd thing that the "About phone screen/Status" shows serial number 0000000000*. Not the end of the world.
Just a few additional questions
Now, before I make the same mistake again (do something I shouldn't, panic and ask for help)... If I want to root:
a) Can I do it without risking to brick?
b) Can I still use Kies after rooting?
c) Is there a recommended procedure that I should follow?
*update about it the next post.
Quick update about serial number 0000000000. Apparently, it is a 4.0.4 bug. The serial number is stored correctly internally but Android UI shows 0000000000.
The majority of people here probably already know that but just in case...

Now, before I make the same mistake again (do something I shouldn't, panic and ask for help)... If I want to root:
a) Can I do it without risking to brick?
b) Can I still use Kies after rooting?
c) Is there a recommended procedure that I should follow?

I manage to find the answers to my own questions :silly:
a/c) I followed the procedure described here. It worked great.
b) Yes. Kies doesn’t seem to care that the S2 is rooted
Result:
- 4.0.4 generic/unbranded/XEU firmware
- Updated and recognised by Kies.
- Rooted successfully.
- So far everything works smoothly and fast
Lesson learned:
- Factory reset after firmware flash resolved the problem.
I couldn’t be happier :good:

Happy to hear that, It's good to find answers just by reading a couple of post or googling around.
Now, I'd like you to read a little more about the brick bug and 4.0.4 ICS.
In the meanwhile, enjoy your device.

I heard of it - although I don't know the details. The 4.0.4 Brick Bug is the reason why I flashed to 4.0.3 instead of 4.0.4.
The Samsung Update application updated to 4.0.4. It wasn't, strictly speaking, my direct choice. I could have ignored the suggestion of updating but I though that, since the update was coming from Samsung and it was applied to stock firmware, it was a safe choice.

This sounds a little bit scary Should I be worried about something?
Lol, I remember you were on 4.0.4, told you It would be wise to go 4.0.3 and kies threw you back at 4.0.4.
Download gotbrickbug app from the store and check your chip (just for kicks). If it's insane, well...you can always go back to 4.0.3 and wait for the Jelly Bean update thru both Kies & OTA (Over The Air).
The thing is, you're completly safe whereas you don't flash any ROM or custom ROM, and perform things like wipes thru recovery and what not.
If you want to go in a flashing frenzee, then you might flash a safe kernel (like Siyah), but I think it's not the case, you seem to love Kies updates
The important thing is that your device is running smoothly on ICS; so, enjoy.

Hi gastonw,
Thanks again for you useful comments.
I suspected your comments about 4.0.3 vs 4.0.4 were related to my previous attemps of flashing 4.0... and your advice of staying away from it.
I run gotbrickbug and I'm happy to say it reports "Brick Bug? NO. Sane chip" - which I guess is good news.

Hi all,
Fairly new to XDA, however I have used it in the past, to root my Galaxy GT-I9100, and install a custom ROM onto it.
However, I am unsure if I can upgrade it.
My laptop doesn't recognise the phone if plugged in via USB, and after some reading around, I fear it may be the kernel?
I know it may seem newbie, but I just need a little push in the right direction. My phone's details are as follows:
ROM: CheckROM RevoHD V6
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband (modem?): I9100XXKL1
Kernel: [email protected] #2
I wish to upgrade from gingerbread, due to failures with the Rom (forward facing camera broken)
is it safe for me to follow this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365701
Also, I read on This Thread about the MMC-SUPERBRICK-BUG. Does my current kernel contain that bug or not?
Additional info:
I've used ODIN before
I have CWM manager v3.15 installed
Underneath the CWM manager v3.15, it states current kernel: CF-Root 5.0
Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need any more info.
Will
Upgrade to what; that is the million dollar question; doh.
I wouldnt flash anything if I was in your shoes, but mobile odin is a good app.
Brickbug is activated if you run 4.0.4 stock kernel c/w having the faulty chip.
Just posted this on another thread with a similar question!
I had the same issue when I flashed latest omniROM today, turns out the phone was in USB debugging mode so didn't connect. Go to developer options in settings and check it is not in USB debugging mode!
If you have no developer mode go to settings - about phone and then click lots on build number until it says you are a developer (or something like that), then the developer option will appear.
Hopefully that will fix it for you!
