Atrix 4g, unlocked, rooted, custom rom.
When the camera app is opened it just shows white. But it takes pictures just fine. It does this with both cameras. This was happening on 2 different roms. When I flashed the second rom it worked on the first boot. but nothing else worked so I had to wipe the cache. After that all the apps work but same camera issue.
What two ROMs were that exactly?

XenonHD was one, I dont remember the other. Now I am just full of problems again. the aroma installer wont calibrate the touch, most apps stop working when started. I may need to run the aroma prep again. I think I flashed a non aroma rom at some point.
Can anyone suggest a ICS or JB rom that is the most stable. My own phone is an Galaxy S II and I never have this much trouble.

Exactly what I thought, this is exactly why I asked. You chould have at least read up on the ROM you are about to flash.
Video recording doesn't work on any ICS/JB ROMs, for reasons that have been explained countless times already.

Don't even think of comparing Atrix with SII. The fact that CM9/CM10 works on some other phone means next to nothing.

Video recording yes, I do know that. Does that mean the camera also does not work? I am talking about before you take a picture. see live through the camera.

I know that. I know it would be different. but this is rediculous. I have to use romracer CWM to flash anything, the touch setup in the aroma installer dosent work, and now the touchscreen is plotting 1cm above my finger.
Tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836674 no improvement.
open the camera app, gallery fails. soft keys cant be pressed because of the calibration issue. This seems to be common between roms. Currently waiting for a charge for fastboot. going to full erase and start from the beggining. unless someone has a better solution.

Eh, yeah. Due to lack of proper software support, the camera has a lot of various issues. Wouldn't be surprised if this is one of them too.

Sounds like you have either a dieing digitizer, or a messed up PDS. Try looking for the pds fix, it's here somewhere. If that doesn't help, then I'm afraid it might be the digitizer.

It was the PDS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131649 worked like a breeze. Fixed every thing. Thanks, still having camera troubles. What confuses me is the camera was working on the first boot. It worked great. Then after a restart it stopped again. so now I have restored form backup and reinstalled rom. camera worked great first time. after restart its just while view finder again.

Background: Updated my ICS unlocked i9300 to JB finally last night.
Can anyone advise why when i was on ICS, i was experiencing no lag at all and the entire experience was really nice, but now i have upgrade to JB the experience is very poor due to allot of lag and general system slowness? For example, if i kill the messaging app from long pressing the home key (with a kill all open tasks), when i re-open the messaging i will be greeted with only phone numbers on the display initially but then after a sec or 2 the names and pics are populated. Also another exapmle would be the keyboard (stock one), when clicking in the URL box of any browser or in the messaging app (again stock as before), the keyboard takes quite some time to appear!?!
It seems very odd to me as JB is supposed to be very good with it's "butter" but is not performing for me at all in the way it should?!?
Any help greatly appreciated as i now no-longer like my phone very much :crying:

There's no way jellybean is very slow compare to your ics..
If ics is faster for you then go back to the ics.

'Crest+', very unhelpful answer and the type of answer you'd expect from dumb asses that use nokia. If you bothered searching the net you'd realise that this issue has affected allot of people and i thought i'd ask the experts at xda - but i guess trollers have made it here as well.
Wiping was not done in my case due to the fact that it was not advised to do so via any point of the update and should have been setup to be more like the upgrade from froyo to GB and actually worked properly without having to do so on other devices. Why would anyone want to wipe the cache and dalvik if not prompted to do so via the official process?!?

Here's what you need to do... try flashing a full firmware from sammobile...probably the latest firmware to make sure its updated...
then flash it using odin... I never experienced this so called lag that's why I answered the question based on my experience.

Not a problem, i will try the factory reset first as i should have the full latest seeing as it was stock updated through kies last night. Worst case scenario is i go back to custom romming it.

Due to me not having much time at the point of needing to format and restore i decided to carry on for a few days until getting the opportunity, but oddly the issue seems to have gone now
The only thing i can link it to is the fact that i ran through all the settings and was greeted with the annoying 'help' popups, and once i cycled through al the menus getting rid of the last popup...no more lag The phone is running very smooth (as it should), but really can't see how the menu aids were slowing it down (if they were), but they are the only thing i can link the issue to :silly:

I have tried many jb roms and i have to say that although jb is extremely smooth,I always find it extremely slow compared to good old GB.
I have the feeling that they have sacfificed speed for smoothness!

Yeah i did this as well after the post about the guide menus (forgot to post update), and the phone is back to it's glorious state.
Hey guys,
So as the title suggests, this will be my first time rooting any phone. I attempted to root my HTC Inspire 4G, nearly bricked it, and kinda gave up on the whole thing.
Now, with my HTC One loaded with unecessary AT&T apps and other stupid bloatware, I find myself in the same position. I know there are many guides for rooting the One, but are there any that are particularly newbie-friendly? Also, I understand that after rooting, OTA updates are impossible. My question is...is 4.2.2 available currently? What about 4.3? And most importantly, how easy/difficult is it to install an update?
Thanks guys. This whole thing has me moderately excited, and equally freaked out (really really like this phone and DON'T want to brick it).

If you have never rooted, an HTC device is probably a little intimidating compared to other manufacturers.
Now, if you just get a guide and follow it to a t, you'll be fine.
You can always get thr phone back to a stock state if you want an ota update, buy if you are running a custom rom, that dev will typically update that particular rom with the ota update.
Hope that helps

if i can help....
i am new to android (iphone convert)...HTC ONE is my first droid device.
i had an iphone 5, Jailbroke it, was lovin life but needed a bigger screen.
HTC One, AT&T, 4.1.2 android
anyhow, i myself was in the same boat as you last week.
my main gripe with the stock HTC one is the fact that you cannot "wake up" the phone any other way
except for the power button. so annoying- it was driving me crazy.
also i have unlimited ATT data plan, and so my wifi tether was dead, and wanted to mod for that as well.
anyhow, i was on the fence regarding rooting my phone, but then i
finally ran into the BULLETPROOF kernel thread here at XDA, and i had to have it.
as i began to research my quest to brick my phone, i ran into this guy on youtube: qbking77
he has some great videos on youtube that will give you the exact instructions and directions on
what you will need to do to root your HTC phone.
His English is easy to understand, he has a support webpage/blog with links to everything you need, very very good and easy tutorial, probably what convinced me to do it.
so here are the steps that he gives:
#1. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU7vi388dMk&feature=youtu.be
#2. ROOT INSTRUCTIONS HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRkAHw_GmIs
BAM!...you are done rooting.
He uses TWRP (custom recovery), and TWRP has been an easy interface for me, no gripes.
so, anyhow, after you have gone through those steps, if I can suggest a couple other things I ran into.
one of the main reasons I was wanting to root my phone, was to install the bulletproof kernel.
this kernel allows for you to “swipe to unlock” your HTC phone.
it’s super cool, and that was the first thing I wanted to install.
I went ahead and installed it, happy as can be…
everything seemed cool, but after a day or so, went to open my camera,
and what do you know, black camera death screen, NO CAMERA!
I was like WTH, ???
jumped back in the forums (guess I should have researched a little further)
and I am not sure why, or what the deal is, but there is a glitch with the kernel and 4.1.2 android version. some people were fine but there are a lot like me and had the camera error.
so long story longer,
I ended up trying to re-install every single bulletproof rom version that was available,
still no luck.
finally i PM'd another user on these forums, he said he installed the ANDROID REVOLUTION HD (4.2.2 ROM)
i went ahead and installed, then I installed the bulletproof kernel m7-3.4 (for 4.2.2)
and what do you know, 100% just fine, absolutely sweet.
only other thing I’ve done was install the ULTIMATE RIT_ARHD_12.1 (HD icon them package)
and man, my phone has a whole new life, and I am absolutely loving it.
anyhow, hope that helps,
those qbking77 vids are the best thing to use in my opinion,
(oh and qbking77 has a vid to install "free wifi hotspot for the HTC ONE"....took all but 5 minutes and that was the icing on the cake!)
good luck!
AJ
Welcome
I am not big into posting on XDA because I typically found my answers either here or on YouTube. As 9aj9 stated, look up qbking77 on youtube and follow his videos. They are very straight forward. On top of what 9aj9 stated, I also S-OFF and SuperCID. The following videos explain what S-OFF and SuperCID mean and how you get them.
S-OFF - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4BWxtjaamM
SuperCID - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvcYRNMq3YQ
I am personally running Stock Rooted Google Edition (link below), but I have flashed several things. It is all personal preference once you get rooted. Wish you the best of luck!

Best advice is take a step back and give it a few days. You will absorb everything there is in time. And if you **** up it Can be fixed ^_^

And if you want a good rom to run that 4.2.2 use this one with Sense 5 as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
its close to stock with little tweaks here and there and its ALL I have been using. The Dev Mike1986 updates it rather often!
Plus if you are alittle worried at the moment, I would recommend keeping it simple and not worrying about SuperCID and S-off...while I to am both of these things, it isnt really necessary
You don't need to be rooted to wake your device with something beside the power button.
I use 'Power On Volume' and my volume button wakes my device. I use a different app that allows me to lock my HTC One with a touchscreen button.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Awesome!
I picked up the HTC One a few days ago from AT&T (coming from iOS). Like 9aj9, some things were finicky like not being able to wake the phone other than the power button, I can see the gripes with the volume button placement and are easily triggered. I got a slim case to give me space away from the volume rocker.
Anyway, I was going to flash to the Home2Wake kernel, but the bulletproof kernel sound even better! However, seems it's most stable if Android Revolution HD ROM in installed (is that the right word?).
So, I have one question before I proceed - can I revert the HTC One to stock 4.1.2 after flashing to Revolution ROM? I'm asking because I am still within the return window and would like the option of getting it back to stock if I wanted to return it.
Im pretty certain u can revert, when u go through qbking77's vids, i believe he has a vid in reverting back to stock.
But one main thing is u have to run a full backup once u have TWRP installed....

Is this necessary and if so, what order do we do it in? Flash the firmware after Root?

Not needed. The firmware that comes with the phone works on 4.2 roms also (the old If it isnt broken dont fix it comes to mind here ). Some of us just like to have the latest greatest everything so I did the firmware update as well, but like I said, its not necessary.
Also, when installing a 4.2 rom keep in mind that the file system will be different as 4.2 has support for multiple users.
Maybe I caught you before you went ahead and rooted, but it was honestly a piece of cake. I pretty much followed what 9aj9 wrote (thread 3). If you follow qbking77's videos, you can't go wrong. I used a W7 machine, even thought I usually use a Mac, but qbking77 used a W7, so I was able to do each step exactly. I did download the most recent SuperSU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053) instead of the older version form the site.
Anyway take your time, make sure you have a few hours. Also, realize you will lose everything when you unlock the boot loader. I backed up most things with Helium, but you have to re-install all the apps, Helium just backs up the data.
OK, so I haven't posted much in this forum in general because I haven't had a need to really. I find what I need read and move on. But because of that I can't post in the developer section to ask this question before I flash this ROM so I will ask it here. So I'm going to take the plunge and flash Newts NOS m7 ROM. But after reading about 60% of a 949 page thread I do have some confusion. There were some updates and patches I'm going to call them for a lack of better term. I don't need to run any type of beast mode kernel. So what patches or fixes do I need to add in order for everything to work on this ROM? And I'm choosing this one over the alpha Sense 5 ROM based on data working with Verizon and not working with the alpha. At least nothing has been posted that it's working in all aspects now. I appreciate the help and hope that I can be rocking the NOS rom by tonight before I go to bed.
Really? No help out of 60 views?

3.0.7 is the only thing you need to have as of today it contains everything, patches are minor small updates and newtoroot usually will tell you what patch you need when they are released.

So you are saying that the kernel patch, the call patch, and the other patch are all included in the 3.0.7 build and I shouldn't worry about them even though people are having issues with the ROM in certain areas such as what the patches fix? I'm asking for clarification because I can't afford to screw up my one and only phone. Besides Viper Rom this Nos 7 Rom seems to be the best out there for what I want until the update comes out. This is me being cautious and doing my research. I don't want to sound like a jerk. Just trying to have everything lined up right.

All you really need to worry about if it says full Rom or not. If it is a full Rom flash it after that there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for the help. I should just take the plunge but like I said before I'm just trying to do all the research that I need and to be as well read on it before I just jump into something. I'm not a first time rooter or flasher of ROM's. This one just has me timid because even the latest posts in the thread of the ROM is saying there are data issues. So I hope you can see where my concern is coming from. I'll flash it tomorrow and see what happens from there though.
OK, so I just took the plunge and did the flash. One problem I have right off the bat is that Gmail keeps closing and failing. I can't have that because all of my most important e-mails come in thru that. So is there a fix or do I just have to go back to stock?

You won't get any help if you don't tell us what you did..... I have never heard of ANY rom that gmail doesn't work.
and YELLING AT PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP EITHER.
Well, it wasn't meant to come out as yelling. And I didn't do anything but install the ROM just like everyone kept telling me to do. Oh and the weather on the lock screen is broke too. It always says no weather data available.
Well nothing like feeling even more of an ass. I never saw the replies I had already gotten from you guys. I guess my page wouldn't refresh. I'll wipe it and re flash it on I guess. I did all the stuff I needed to do before flashing it so I"m in the clear on that one. I'm not sure as to what all the extra apps that I've never seen before are but I'm ok with that for now. Oh, um isn't there suppose to be a swipe screen to wake feature on this ROM? I can't find it.
So G-mail is back to working now. I reflashed the ROM and did a cache and dalvik cache wipe. I also did the lock screen patch and volume to wake patch. I still don't have weather on the lock screen though. And the little click sounds that are turned on for me for when I unlock or lock the screen....yeah I can't hear them.
So, everything works now. Go figure....well minus those sounds that for some reason I actually really really liked having turned on before I flashed this. Maybe they will just start working again too.

So, in other words, all of your problems were self inflicted.
Do the flashing process properly next time and you won't have these issues.
Nope not self inflicted. I did the flash exactly the way I was suppose to. Not sure why flashing it a second time worked but it did. Now to figure out how my nanddroid back up got deleted.....or if it's just hidden and I don't know where it is. I use TWRP recovery by the way.
Hey all,
I recently got an HTC One and have noticed some really frustrating data slowness in most apps I use. I'm on ATT 4G LTE most of the time and will notice that many apps take forever to load what should be basic things. I seem to be okay when using Chrome to browse websites most of the time but even that can sometimes be quite slow. Other slowdown I've noticed is in things like opening YouTube and just doing a search or having the front page load, opening my Reddit app and having threads load, trying to change stations in Slacker Radio, etc. All of these things give me the spinning wait cursor and it's getting really frustrating, I never had these issues with my last phone(Galaxy S3).
So far I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone but that is all, no custom ROMs or radios or anything yet. The phone did update to 4.3 and I noticed that once I got a notification saying the Superuser binary must be updated but it disappeared. I'm seriously thinking of finding out how to undo the root and bootloader unlock and exchanging the phone but I really really don't want to go through all of that.
Has anyone had any similar issues or have any suggestions?

Hey all,
I recently got an HTC One and have noticed some really frustrating data slowness in most apps I use. I'm on ATT 4G LTE most of the time and will notice that many apps take forever to load what should be basic things. I seem to be okay when using Chrome to browse websites most of the time but even that can sometimes be quite slow. your phone is broken compared to mine, Apps, Games the internet load so fast I forget I touch the icon, it's like it reads my mind if that makes sense. you have a few choices since your unlocked and rooted, do a backup in recovery and try installing a custom rom like InsertCoin or ARHD or MaximusHD. Their all Very Good. Your other choice is to return to Stock with whats called a RUU, it's a total wipe factory reset deal. You could just uninstall everything and see if one of your installed apps is not working correctly after the update to 4.3. You can do this in settings/backup & reset.
Its a fantastic phone it should be running at least 40% faster than you S3 did
Good luck

Thanks for the info, I think I will try a custom ROM, I was thinking of going just abit more conservative with this phone but meh, all the hard work with unlocking the bootloader and rooting it is over right, so all I have to do is pick a ROM and flash it in recovery?(sorry, it's been alittle whle). I keep hearing about S-OFF, do I need to worry about that?
It is definitely enticing turning the phone into a Google Edition, but I suppose many ofthe custom ROMs are big steps up.
Thanks again for the info!
S-off is great but not necessary. Just follow the instructions for Rom flashing you'll be fine
