[Q] Specific ROM Help - HTC Droid DNA

OK, so I haven't posted much in this forum in general because I haven't had a need to really. I find what I need read and move on. But because of that I can't post in the developer section to ask this question before I flash this ROM so I will ask it here. So I'm going to take the plunge and flash Newts NOS m7 ROM. But after reading about 60% of a 949 page thread I do have some confusion. There were some updates and patches I'm going to call them for a lack of better term. I don't need to run any type of beast mode kernel. So what patches or fixes do I need to add in order for everything to work on this ROM? And I'm choosing this one over the alpha Sense 5 ROM based on data working with Verizon and not working with the alpha. At least nothing has been posted that it's working in all aspects now. I appreciate the help and hope that I can be rocking the NOS rom by tonight before I go to bed.

Really? No help out of 60 views?

If you install the full rom, you don't need any of the patches.

Well I have the full app plus a couple of the other downloads that are mentioned to have off the bat. But has the ROM download been updated with the patches that fix stuff? Thank you for your response by the way.

3.0.7 is the only thing you need to have as of today it contains everything, patches are minor small updates and newtoroot usually will tell you what patch you need when they are released.

So you are saying that the kernel patch, the call patch, and the other patch are all included in the 3.0.7 build and I shouldn't worry about them even though people are having issues with the ROM in certain areas such as what the patches fix? I'm asking for clarification because I can't afford to screw up my one and only phone. Besides Viper Rom this Nos 7 Rom seems to be the best out there for what I want until the update comes out. This is me being cautious and doing my research. I don't want to sound like a jerk. Just trying to have everything lined up right.

Again.... just install the full rom. All is included.. Don't see how you could be confused with that statement.

All you really need to worry about if it says full Rom or not. If it is a full Rom flash it after that there is nothing else to do.
Sent from my dlx using XDA Premium HD app

Thanks for the help. I should just take the plunge but like I said before I'm just trying to do all the research that I need and to be as well read on it before I just jump into something. I'm not a first time rooter or flasher of ROM's. This one just has me timid because even the latest posts in the thread of the ROM is saying there are data issues. So I hope you can see where my concern is coming from. I'll flash it tomorrow and see what happens from there though.

OK, so I just took the plunge and did the flash. One problem I have right off the bat is that Gmail keeps closing and failing. I can't have that because all of my most important e-mails come in thru that. So is there a fix or do I just have to go back to stock?

Never heard of that issue. I would just re-wipe and re-install the rom.

Did you even wipe data or did you just install the rom and hope that you wouldn't have to do anything about your already installed apps?

Seriously??!! Oh just install the ROM it's totally fine. Yeah well it's not fine. GMAIL is broke and I HAVE TO HAVE IT WORK!! Come on people help me out!!

You won't get any help if you don't tell us what you did..... I have never heard of ANY rom that gmail doesn't work.
and YELLING AT PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP EITHER.

Well, it wasn't meant to come out as yelling. And I didn't do anything but install the ROM just like everyone kept telling me to do. Oh and the weather on the lock screen is broke too. It always says no weather data available.

Well nothing like feeling even more of an ass. I never saw the replies I had already gotten from you guys. I guess my page wouldn't refresh. I'll wipe it and re flash it on I guess. I did all the stuff I needed to do before flashing it so I"m in the clear on that one. I'm not sure as to what all the extra apps that I've never seen before are but I'm ok with that for now. Oh, um isn't there suppose to be a swipe screen to wake feature on this ROM? I can't find it.

So G-mail is back to working now. I reflashed the ROM and did a cache and dalvik cache wipe. I also did the lock screen patch and volume to wake patch. I still don't have weather on the lock screen though. And the little click sounds that are turned on for me for when I unlock or lock the screen....yeah I can't hear them.

So, everything works now. Go figure....well minus those sounds that for some reason I actually really really liked having turned on before I flashed this. Maybe they will just start working again too.

So, in other words, all of your problems were self inflicted.
Do the flashing process properly next time and you won't have these issues.

Nope not self inflicted. I did the flash exactly the way I was suppose to. Not sure why flashing it a second time worked but it did. Now to figure out how my nanddroid back up got deleted.....or if it's just hidden and I don't know where it is. I use TWRP recovery by the way.

Like many people I have to have my phone as a daily driver. I love the MIUI but its time to put the experimenting to the side and get back to 100% functional. I was wondering if someone could debloat and debing the latest offical Froyo ED05. Also no one has ever said whether or not there is anything good about the kernal included with it. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could do this. I'm sure others would to. I will continue though to mess with the CM7 / Miui stuff but I just need a fallback rom till they are 100% stable and Functional.

How about one of you guys trying it? If I really wanted I could post one. But I'm lazy \
Besides can't you just use ed01 unbloated and safe some time?
@tonu42: I would gladly take on that task if I could just get someone to give me an outline of how to. I was a wiz with windows mobile, so it shouldnt take me that long to learn how to with android... do you know how?

I was actually working on something like it, but I kinda stopped once JT's Vanilla Gingerbread ROM came out. So far, I got the ED05 base deodexed/debinged/zipaligned but I have encountered some issues like the camera and voice search force closing due to some compression I added to the APKs, which I can fix. It's a simple ROM that doesnt have a lot of mods and such since it is my first time making a ROM. Not sure if I should keep working on it or not because I only did it 'cause I was bored, but now I'm lazy

I'm sure numerous people would appreciate it. I know I would. Really all I want is a stripped down rom with basically nothing in it. I think there are enough launchers, apps, and themes out there that we could use to customize the ED05 release to how we want and be able keep out functionality until a rock solid CM7 /Miui is released. If you decide to give up on what you have started please feel free to send me what you have so I may proceed on.

I probably might release something tonight or tomorrow. Just gotta back up my phone so I can test it out, I think I fixed whatever I broke. and as for the script, I had to kang it too, but after looking at it for a while it doesnt seem that hard to make one.
Also regarding kernels, there are no custom kernels yet, so no Voodoo lagfix, color, or sound and adding that is way out of my league.
That would be Great! As far as the kernal goes we may be able to get away with OTB 1.6 for a while
There has been rumor that ED06 will be released. My phone, brothers, girlfriend all still have missed calls, texts on ED05 stock.
Just mentioning this because if ED06 gets released then there will request for a debinged/debloated.

That would be sweet as well... but I've seen rumors last for years. It's better to just work with what we have.
What isn't 100% functional in MIUI and CM7 at this point? MIUI is on both the fascinates in my house, and everything has been fine for me?
Well, it looks like my Dropbox account is gone. Can't log on to it or anything...great. As a result, I'll attach some screenshots of what I got so far. It's a simple debinged/deodexed ROM (mainly because I'm new at this, if someone wants to theme it/mod it later on feel free) with busybox added and it's prerooted. Contains Launcher2 from SuperClean and debinged ED01 browser, AOSP Music and Car Cradle, Spare Parts and Google Maps added. I'll upload it later so some people can try it before I fully release it.
Edit: also has latest market.

At this point CM7 and MIUI is still lacking on the sensors being spot on (ex: tilt sensors) wanna know what I mean go install aTilt Labyrinth. You will see what I mean. Also you have the phantom ring and low call volumes. JT has already stated that he had no intention on fixing the call volume untill there was a gingerbread source. Some other small issues but neways.

Starting to upload it. Once its done, I'll post a link so you or any other people can try it before I make a more public release, I want to make sure It'll work fine for everyone. Also, note this ROM will flash the ED05 stock kernel, after you flash it you can install OTB or PB&J but I'm not sure if OTB or PB&J will work or not.

I need serious help

I am done with ROMs. There, I said it. The fact is, that they are usually more buggy than the stock ROM, and they really tend to jack things up when you want to revert.
The last one changed the MainVer and I cannot seem to get the phone back to stock. I followed the instructions for fixing Mainver, doesn't work.
Tried to RUU and also use the PH98IMG.Zip from HBoot, but those don't work because the last ROM changed the Mainver so neither of those methods work any more.
I thought I had it fixed by using Scott's CleanFlash tool to push the stock kernel to the phone and it did work for awhile, but now my phone is stuck in a bootloop and I really need to get this fixed, I need to get it to do a real RUU and completely restore the phone to stock. I can then just root it and debloat it and stop messing with ROMs which frankly are never enough benefit to justify the harm and aggravation they cause.
So can someone please point me in the right direction to find a way to correct Mainver so that I can just restore the phone with the latest OTA version of RUU and then leave my phone alone and stop messing it up? LOL

I think I may have solved it. I think I finally got the Mainver fixed and RUU appears to be working, finally.
But I am still done with ROM's until an ICS OTA is pushed out. LOL
If anyone sees me installing a ROM before then, feel free to kick me in the neck...

It's not all that bad bro.... ROM'ing = patience + experimentation + phone insurance.
That sucks you have been having so much trouble man. The whole change to a device with a only an unlocked bootloader along with the newer android version is really throwing Devs and Users for a loop. There is a lot to learn.
I hope all these events don't make you stray from flashing forever!
Sorry you've had such bad luck. My experience with custom roms has been the opposite. I've taken mediocre phones with buggy/laggy stock roms and turned them into solid, stable devices. Some of the features and extras baked into custom roms are so nice. I'm running Scott's Clean GB 1.6 and it has been 100% stable. I haven't had any fc's or reboots, and everything works. And no bloat!

Yeah, it really is weird. In a lot of ways, I prefer the DroidX and Motorola experiences I had. They may have an encrypted bootloader, but you could still install ROMs and it sorta helped keep you from messing up the phone, and SDLite always worked for me.
Part of me wonders what the ROM craze is all about. I mean, I fall into it myself, but then I ask myself, why do I do this? I have yet to see a ROM that runs as well as the stock one, once you root and debloat it. Sure, some of them look nice, but when you see what bugs there are, how many things don't work, and then the issues that can come up when you have to revert... I dunno... I start out all jazzed up and then more frustrated than ever when they just never seem to work properly...

I think some of the issue seems to be how much you need all the parts to work flawlessly for work. As far as my usage and what apps I use, I really can't complain about any of the builds. I just text, surf, browse the internet and play games and music. I never use exchange, blue tooth and those seem to be the biggest flaws with the leaks. So for me the experience is totally different. I think it really all depends on the users needs obviously. To bad you can't get work to spring for one phone for you and then you can have your personal phone to play with
But even the stock ROMs piss me off. I just did an RUU, unlocked it, rooted it, tested to make sure SU is installed and updated, and neither TI pro or ROM Toolbox can freeze my bloat apps. And Scott's CleanTool was never updated to work with the latest OTA, so I am left wondering how the hell I am supposed to disable all this crap.
There are definitely days when the iPhone and "just working" look very appealing... sigh...
I also think that part of the problem is that a lot of the apps and things are disjointed and don't work properly. There is no real checks and balances in the Androiud world, no review process. Any college kid taking a programming course is a "software engineer" and the results are that half the apps and stuff out there are hit or miss at best. It takes forever to weed through all the crap to find the one or two apps that actually work right...
This inability to debloat is driving me nuts.
This is what I am talking about, the plethora of **** apps out there that just don't work. ROM Toolbox, granted root access, go in and grab an app like Blockbuster and tell it to Freeze it.
says it is doing it.
Still says that 10 minutes later. Have to manually FC the app and then go back in and try another app. TIB does the same thing.
How the hell can you freeze apps or just delete them if neither ROM Toolbox nor TIB can do it?

Yeah, well if something can go wrong for me, it will.
I did a straight RUU, fully restored to stock. Unlocked. Rooted. Installed SU and updated it, and I cannot debloat any of the **** apps.
This used to work. It worked on my GF's Rezound last week, same OS, same OTA, same exact process, but when I do it, it just sits there doing nothing.

That sucks. I've had TiBu hang on backups and restores, but never on freezes. That's really strange. I would look for another app. You could try something like this. Just buy it and try for a second and then refund if it doesn't work right away. Just a thought. Hope it gets better for you.

Just buy rootexplorer and mount to r/o in system and go to app and either rename all the bloatware to .bak or just delete the apk's you don't want like blockbuster etc.. thats what I did and I am not sure why people freeze over renaming or deleting personally.
by renaming to .bak then if you like you can just delete the .bak and viola app is restored !

I was trying to picture the screen and was seeing the r/o at the top.. lol have to press that to change to read/ write to alter the actually files.
Tried that and even after renaming and rebooting, most of the apps are still in the app drawer...
The bottom line is that the last ROM I tried really screwed up my phone. I may have to smash it and get a new one under my insurance plan...

Now, that is wierd did you try deleting them or just moving the apk's onto your SD card from the folder if you wanted to keep them ? There is no reason this shouldn't work that I can think of .

[Q] To those that flashed back to 2.3.4 (UCKH7)...

How are things working out now after several weeks? Smooth sailing? Glad you did it? Any annoying notifications to update to 2.3.6?
When ICS FINALLY comes to this phone, will there be an upgrade path from UCKH7 or will I have to re-flash to 2.3.6 first?
Here's a tip: You have a choice when it comes to ICS. You can either:
- Root and flash ShoStock2, Phone Bricker, or another fully-functional ICS rom.
or...
- Wait for AT&T's hopelessly broken, fantastically buggy bloated ICS update.
The correct choice seems pretty clear to me.

Which is fine too, also a valid option. I just meant that those are his two options if he wants ICS.

You should be very pleased with UCKH7. I prefer it over ICS. I don't remember seeing any notifications; if you do see them, there are files you can delete to prevent it from popping up (device manager, device management, or something like that). In system/app it looks something like "wsyncdm" (may be completely off, but it similar to that). I would recommend using GTG's UnNamed v1; it's UCKH7 with some bloat removed. Ryuude's UnOriginal rom is also UCKH7. As good as the base is, those are the only two roms that use it (as least, all I can remember).

I went back to my oldest nandroid (2.3.4 stock w/root) a week or two ago, because CM9/AOKP were for some reason not retaining my saves from a few games I play. The AudioOut_1 wakelock (is this a bug? I would assume so, but I'm no dev) was too vampiric for my tastes. I don't want to have to turn off sounds just to keep my battery at a normal level. Not to mention, battery life isn't particularly stellar in the first place, albeit certainly not the worst I've ever used. I haven't made any effort to increase battery life out-of-the-box, though. Haven't run any kernel scripts or anything. I've never really looked into it, come to think of it. Probably should though.
Really I forgot just how nice stock 2.3.4 was. It was incredibly smooth (slightly more so than AOKP/CM9 - no slight jitter when scrolling home screens) and equally fast. Rarely were there any FCs and my game data would not disappear. Battery life was excellent and I could keep phone sounds on. Oddly enough, I stupidly ran an OTA update on my phone. Everything looked like it worked, but luckily it didn't, and I didn't end up with 2.3.6.
That being said, today I find myself back on CM9. Why? I don't know, really. Probably just testing it out and checking out its progress, since I haven't used it in several weeks. Still good. Seems more stable. A work in progress, for sure, but the devs are doing a very good job and my biggest gripe is that I'm incapable of contributing to the process.
Nevermind...
Thanks for all the quick replies. What about the AP mobile data problem? Are you guys seeing that or just managing it with a data manager?

If you go back to UCKH7 using the stuff that Entropy set up, you'll have root. Install Titanium Backup and freeze the AP mobile app if you are worried about it. I'm still running UCKH7 and I haven't had a problem with the AP mobile app, probably because I haven't touched it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I am going to try it out. I have read the first few pages (haven't had time to read all 400+ yet, haha).
I'm not interested in flash counters, custom kernals and custom mods, right? All I want is to follow the instructions on #2c and stop. That will give me the stock 2.3.4 rom plus root. Right? And then that is all I have to do, other than reinstall all my apps and configure the settings.

If you read the first few and last few, you'll be OK. IMHO, if you do step 2 you might as well do step 3. You get CWM recovery, which is universally (as far as I know) recommended. Nandroid backup is the best thing since sliced bread...

You'll need to do step 1 to get your phone into download mode, then you can do #2c.
+1 for mgd76's recommendation to get CWM onto your phone so you can do nandroid backups, flash new ROMs, etc.
I just flashed using 2c listed in creepyncrawly's thread, quick, easy and reliable. Just came over from iPhone and I'm enjoying what seem to be endless possibilities in the customization department.

[Q] New to Photon

I was due for an upgrade a few months back and never owned a smart phone but was able to get this phone free 2 weeks ago so obviously took it. Was hoping to get a few of you photon lovers to guide me in the best direction to get the best perfomance out of it. I have gotten the phone rooted and that is as far as I went. Due to so many mixed messages as to what are the best setups I was just wondering if a few of you that have had long time success with a particular setup could give me some steps. Thank you very much for any help.

I guess my personal input is
1 -- if you are in an area where you can get 4G speed, then stop and just enjoy it
2 -- use it awhile and if it does what you want to do, then stop and just enjoy it.
3 -- remember that ICS is coming soon. if you are willing to use an alpha ROM without 4G, and there is also something you Must have, then consider a custom ROM. And then enjoy it!

1-- 4G isn't a big deal to me since it is in limited areas around here and my 3G isn't horrible.
2-- I am enjoying messing with it, just figured if I can give it a performance boost I would.
3-- As far as ICS goes, I have it on my asus tablet and love it but been getting mixed messages on when that will be available for us if at all. If we do get it, I'm assuming any changes I make can be reversed ( correct me if I'm wrong ). Also thanks for your reply.
i love the photon but it will never be 4gbunlocked so that sucks. i run gummy rom installed with kitchen sink. i have zero problems with anything. ive ran every rom on here. kitchen sink gummy is best. be careful about installing bravia through kitchen sink i could never get it to boot so i left it out. beats audio is cool though, as is the bigger ics keyboard.

I would really appreciate if you could give me a run down on how to get this on my stock photon, also did you happen to oc you cpu? I have read alot of the threads on different roms but it becomes a little confusing for first time, also knowing how to revert back would be good too. Thanks alot.

If 4g is of no concern to you then i would definitely suggest that you unlock. The little tweaks and such you can make to stock rom just doesnt even compare to what throwing a custom on it would do for ya. The reason i would suggest doing that as soon as you can is because the latest updates will permanently lock your bootloader, this also includes the ics update that is soon to come. It cant be reversed at this time unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and dont get locked down to a rom that you will never be able to get rid of.

Cybiks pure CM7 if you want everything to work flawlessly. Cm9 if you can stand a couple bugs and want bleeding edge ics. If you choose cm9 be sure to read the cm9 fixes thread for proper installation procedure.

I said
4G is Much faster, but I travel a lot and rarely am able to keep a 4G connection for more than 30 seconds or a minute or so. And more like 1G in my house, but I use 6M WiFi so OK. So, 4G for me is worthless.
Addiction? LOL!
Peace !
I have tried CM9 and Gummy from Kitchen Sink and for both roms can not get past the boot screen.
Ignore this. Didnt mean to double post, i is drunk.
Yep, success with both. Tell me your entire installation procedure for each and ill try to point you in the right direction. Its probably just a simple mistake. Also, the versions from kitchen sink are not the latest versions. Installing a rom the good old fashioned way is less convenient but less prone to error.

Which version of cm9 are most people using? I grabbed the latest from Jokers site and seems good except I have no phone service lol.
Two different versions of cm9 and neither have a mobile network. I am using jokers recovery v3 to flash. not sure what I am doing wrong and damn the rom runs soo smooth, any help is appreciated. I am putting the roms on my sd card booting into recovery, doing a data wipe and cache then installing the zip from my sd. It boots into the rom fine although it does say something about an error once booted but the only problem I see is no mobile network.
Go to cm9 fixes thread, grab cm9 version 3.1. Wipe system/dalv/data/cache, install 3.1, boot, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, install latest cm9, install gapps, reboot.

Why did you put this under the other CM 12 Unofficial thread? That really should be what you do, or we'll have duplication of discussion. He does have a place in post 2 reserved for partner builds.

Initially he did exactly that. Then a one of the mods deleted half a dozen posts. Take a look at the mods post in the other thread.
Since the other poster moved on, it's probably best anyway. That way he can update the build dates.
ok, so my brother has a flakey 4g lte. I tried to refresh his phone to stock and he still seems to have some issues.
I would like to throw a custom build on there and I think this would be a great one. He has never been rooted, has taken all the latest OTAs, etc and is S-ON. So... what the best S-OFF to use for the latest firmware one? I am guessing rumrunner? Then from there, TWRP recovery I see is required, but it also says use the new partition layout. Is that the F2FS?
Also, does this rom come with the easy CM updater? Or are they all manual for now?
Thanks.

Is the bootloader unlocked? If not, that's what needs to be done prior to getting S-Off.
Rumrunner should work just fine.
You really need to read and follow the instructions in this thread

Captain Throwback has done some amazing work and has significantly extended the useful life of our devices. You'll need to use his TWRP too. Nothing else will work.
Hope this helps.

New build. Sorry it took a while, I was having trouble getting it to build and I just ended up downloading the sources fresh. I'm going to be RMAing my motherboard after Christmas because it currently works with only a single stick of RAM, so it will be a little bit for more builds. I'll be sure to put a new one out before I do though.

Christmas present for you guys.
I'm curious if anyone is using this (or any) cm12 rom on an Activated htc evo 4g lte sprint phone. I ask because I have a couple of these phones that are not activated I give my kids to play with. My wife has this phone also and I'm thinning about installing this on her phone but wanted to know if I should expect any issues with data or GPS. We travel allot so a concern is the ability to quickly transition from 3g to 4g back to 3g. With a "stock based" rom it has no problem but I noticed with cm11 it had issues keeping data

Do you know are the "post-22nd" bugs mentioned in the op still there? I know you're not doing dev on this yourself, just curious if anyone has noted upstream fixes and this thread is pretty quiet.
Wanting to take it for another spin but with small kids and holidays my camera is getting a workout. If not I'll fire it up here in a day or two, check for myself, and report back
Thanks a ton for keeping this going. I'm squeezing every last mile out of this phone as my family is between homes at the moment so I'm squirreling away every dollar I can.
