There is a TON of information out there that can guide you through s-off. The search button is your friend. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612035 is a good place to start. The .5 version of juopunutbear should work as long as you are on ICS (not the global update). The best thing for you to do is take a look at the material then start asking specific questions as you get stuck or confused. Apophis has a thread (either in general or Q&A) where he lists his (along with other senior members) g-talk account. So, if you're having major problems along the way, find that forum, hit up apophis (or somebody else), and hopefully they can guide you.
Oh, and one more thing: it is a very easy process. Don't get overwhelmed. When it's over you will be surprised by how easy it was. Just take it easy, don't take shortcuts, and make sure you can do it by memory before even attempting. Good luck! It will be worth your time!

Custom ROM update for my XV6800?

Note: I've done a lot of searching on these forums but there is a TON of information, so I just want to get the 'simple' (ha!) explanation of exactly what to do/read since I am a newbie when it comes to using customer ROMS.
I have a 2-month old Verizon XV6800. I am not pleased with the performance, nor with not having WM 6.1, GPS, and other things. That is why I am interested in doing a custom ROM.
Therefore, can someone give me the thread and/or info on exactly what I need and the procedure to FLASH a custom ROM to my XV6800? I've seen a lot of items regarding Sprint and others, but I want the instructions for doing this with the XV6800. There seems to be a lot of pieces I need to do, and I am curious exactly what I will end up with.
Again, this may already have been explained completely in another thread, so maybe I just need to be pointed there. However, I would really be happy if it relates directly to the XV6800.
Thanks! Any info appreciated.

Current Config:
XV6800 (Stock)
WM 6.0
ROM 2.09.605.8
Radio v.1.30.60

Nice guy - for folks who have yet to upgrade, there is definitely too much information out there, making it difficult for some to truly find what they need to do. Its not about not reading - its about sifting through all the crap that you can read.
OP - check out the titan wiki thread:

Its a good starting point.

Well I will have to stand firm on this topic. There was a thread specifically created for newcomers to read. It's stickied and says "NEED HELP?? LOOKING FOR GUIDES?? NEW?? Read the XDA-Wiki for the Titan before posting" If you can't navigate yourself that far into this forum then chances are you don't need to even consider flashing your phone at this point. Yes there is tons of info to sift thru but it don't get much easier than that thread shows. Problem is, most people dont want to take the effort it takes to look first. It's easier to create a thread and ask where to look even though the developers have taken TONS of time to build guides and wiki pages to avoid the standard everyday questions.

Ever notice how the stickies are never bold, but new posts are? Kind of pulls your eyes away from the top.
Ya I noticed. You ever notice when you don't take time to read first you find yourself asking questions that have been answered numerous times?
Well, trust me, I took time to read - pulled a lot of stuff into my Evernote file just to have it. But again, with so much info around, and the fact that you are messing around with the firmware of your phone (and can maybe brick it!) I'd rather ask to be sure before I start doing anything. Some of the info was 'general' in nature, and I wanted to make sure what I was reading was XV6800 specific (or at least as specific as possible).
OK, another question: I know there is a new Verizon XV6800 firmware update coming out (soon hopefully?) - if you were me, would you wait for this new update? Or go ahead and flash to one in here? It seems that dcd's updates are better and faster - at least from what I read.
Finally, is there any specific ROM that works better for the XV6800?

use dcd 3.2.5 and radio 3.42.30... that would be the most current configuration
and no I don't think waiting will be worth it....once you start flashing your phone you will end up like the rest of us who are known to flash multiple times a week or even a day trying new stuff....so if you feel like you're ready then take the plunge
quick notes:
unlock with olipro 2.40 or nuespl 2.47
flash radio via your sd card
flash rom via ruu or sd
Cool, I will try this next week.
BTW, if I have to take the phone back to Verizon for any reason, I can re-flash the original ROM back onto the system, correct?
And finally, what is the 'chance' that I could brick the phone entirely doing this?

Just make sure you go thru the steps as they are laid out.
You will have to run titanrelocker and then flash the OEM ROM and Radio to return

[Video] How to root your EVO 3D for beginners

I decided it was time for me to root my EVO. I looked at the thread that was created and there were a whole bunch of steps that quite frankly are not needed and are rather confusing.
I followed this video to a tee and was able to gain root on my EVO within 12 minutes. Simple and plain, it gets no easier than this.
You don't even lose your data. Phone reboots, you have S-OFF, Clockwork recovery and all the apps you had before you started.
I know this video is in another thread, but I want to put it where beginners can see it w/out having to jump 62 pages into the thread to find it. I hope this helps you guys as easily as it helped me.

That's true, but I even started the process in other thread and said to myself "there has to be another way". I then jumped 60 pages and finally came across this link.
I feel it's good to have a thread where a beginner can start w/out having to start somewhere else, fail and then find this link.
Thanks for posting this. It was extremely easy to follow with visual cue. Thanks again.

[Q] Advice not given

Okay. I posted my first ever question/request for advice the other day and, despite 79 views, I have had no response. Perhaps it was too dull for those who are more accomplished with all things Android and everybody assumed that somebody else would answer.
Perhaps within the morass of information on these forums the answers are already out there. Maybe, but who knows. In other forums people tend to at least say - look there for answers - and post a link to another thread. But, it has been Christmas and I guess we are all pretty busy this time of year - Merry Christmas to all by the way
So, I thought I would re-shape my question/needs here.
Could anybody give me, or at least point me in the direction of, a glossary of terms type of thing?
I need to know things like what does 'radio' mean? How does it relate to the 'flashing' process' , And any other terms which people take for granted as being blindingly obvious, but which may not be to those of us very inexperienced. This forum can be quite daunting, but still, enquiring minds wanna know
Any help, again, appreciated.

I would've loved to answer but perhaps you need to be more specific on what you want to be answered
you said you wanted to have 2.3.5 on ur DHD,but that doesn't tell anyone what you are asking for,if you are asking us to find a ROM for you,or how to flash a recovery first,or how to flash the ROM !
You should have to provide us more specific data, phone, model, rooted or stock, etc. It is normal that why you don't get replies.

HI, and thank you. Also apologies for my woolly question. And this is kind of my problem. When new to this even the questions I want answered are not always asked correctly. I was hoping to find a ROM for my Desire HD which has Sense 3.0. I have Gingerbread on the phone currently with Sense 2.1.
To be completely humble and honest, which I find to be the best way in almost all cases, I must say that I am not even sure what "how to flash a recovery" means, or "how to flash the ROM".
So, as you see, I am really new to this and feeling my way around. I am a quick learner though so I really just need bringing up to speed on a few of the basics and then I am sure I will be able to research my way around.
Anyway, thank you for your kind reply. I wasn't trying to be shirty with my post. I meant what I said - it is Christmas and I am sure people look in over the holidays but it is a busy time for everybody. I hope I have not caused offence.

Please read before you do anything at all. From your posts it is plain you are very new to Modding so it is very important you understand what your doing as it void your warrenty and if done wrong can brick your device. Start with the stickies in the DHD section and read those a couple of times. Then check the Q&A and read there as well.
As mentioned, read the stickies in your section, there should be a lot of information there. In my device's subfora, there are great stickies chocked full of information. If we had the same device, I'd post some links for you. There's also a glossary of sorts stickied in the Thunderbolt section. Not everything in it will apply to your device but it may help with some general terms.
Before I even rooted my device, I read all of the stickies and recommended links. I then read over the Q&A and general subfora just to get a feel for it. What I read didn't make a lot of sense at the time, but later I remembered it and it made more sense. I then rooted my device, then read and read and read before flashing my first rom (CM6 - it was a while back).
It's a process, and the more you read the more you'll understand, until eventually you can start answering some of the questions that go unanswered. Just give it time... and make sure that you know exactly what you're doing - and why - before you jump in to something.
Good luck!

Hi there Zendel.
Apologies for the lateness of this reply. Been a busy day. I wanted to say thanks for the advice and to also fill in a couple of blanks, if I may.
You are quite correct, I am very new to modding and my only fear is buggering it up, as we say in Lancashire lol. However, it has already been rooted by a friend who took me through the process over the phone some months ago.
When I first got the phone it was with Orange and had all that Orange junk and splash screen etc. Hence, my friend talked me through rooting and installing a standard factory ROM. It was a lot to take in and, at the time, I didn't make any notes along the way, which would have helped me now - hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.
More recently he pointed me at a link to a RUU (is that right?) so that I could upgrade from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 - so, in a nutshell, void warranty is no longer a concern
I have taken a look at some of the stickies, though I have not studied them intensely at this point. I will spend more time looking however and come back, perhaps, with more questions - or at least more relevant questions I should hope

Need Help Getting Back to Stock Sense

Sooo, Ill start off by saying that I've unlocked, hacked, rooted, jailbroke pretty much every phone since it became available over the years. Im a careless tinkerer and have always stumbled across well written how to's to do everything I've need in forums like this and have great luck.
Well awhile ago, shortly after I got my AT&T M8, I decided to try and turn it into Google Play Edition. Somewhere along the way while in the process of doing S-OFF, something went wrong. I kept getting errors and couldn't get anything to flash. So I gave up and got the LG G3 and put the M8 aside for a bit. Well now I want to use it again, and along the way of "tinkering", I've managed to wipe TWRP, relocked the bootloader, have no OS and still S-OFF. I can boot into recovery or boot to the HTC screen so its not completely gone yet from what Ive researched.
Would anyone be willing to help me out in getting this thing back to stock Sense or point me in the right direction? I want it completely stock, without root or custom recovery. I'd rather a good step by step, if someone would be willing. I can't seem to piece together all of the information i need to do this myself. Thanks!
Have you tried this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55094112

Just RUU as suggested in the previous response.
I suggest leaving your phones stock, unless you are willing to put in the time to read, research, and obtain some real knowledge.
Step-by-step guides and toolkits are dangerous things. As you see, they just get you into trouble without giving you the knowledge or tools to get out of that jam.
I'm surprised you've modded as many phones as you say, and haven't gotten any real knowledge to this point. Either you are very humble; or your story is a testament to the fact that such step-by-step guides shouldn't be posted in the first place.

Thank you for your response but unfortunately I find it extremely arrogant and asinine. The fact is that I have put in a lot of time and knowledge to understand what I am doing. I may not have a conventional degree in coding as you might but I am able to successfully mod my phones by browsing forums like this where you can find an abundance of knowledge, especially step-by-step guides, as you are so against. If you are so against step by step guides then maybe you can be the voice about banning them from this forum. Do you see how I am a new member? I am one of the few that actually search the forums instead of posting another thread asking the same questions. Ive used tools and information from this site for a very long time without having to post one single thing until a few days ago. And this is the response I get? I was even humble enough in my screen name to call myself stupid because, with this specific issue, I knew it had to be something stupid that i was missing. You shouldn't tell people that step by step guides are dangerous things. All it takes is some balls and some command lines and you can accomplish many things. Have I messed up my phones and others before? Yes, but i had never run into a situation I haven't been able to get myself out of. To me, tinkering around, as a hobby, is fun. Like now, as I watch Sunday NFL Countdown, I am about to dust off my Nexus 5 and flash Lollipop on it. Guess what I am going to use? A STEP BY STEP GUIDE!!!! If I mess it up, then Im sure I wouldn't be the first to do so and Im sure Ill find a solution on great forums like this. Besides, my rooted/unlocked OnePlus One is my main phone. I wanted to play around with the M8 again to see if I would miss the smaller screen but I don't. So, thank you for just repeating the first response then proceeding to insult me because you think i don't have the skills needed to mod my devices. I will continue to do so however I please, just as many others will. Either contribute to threads or ignore them. No need for the insults. You've also insulted many other members who have posted tools and step by step guides on this specific site.

I stand by this statement. I've seen dozens dozens of instances where such tools just arm people with enough "knowledge" to get them into trouble, and don't equip them with any tools to get them out. Its then left to folks like me to even start to get these folks on the right track.
I'll step back a bit from my statement that these tools "shouldn't be posted in the first place". I'll agree that step-by-step guides and toolkits might be useful if combined with the proper research, learning and understanding. But in and of themselves, they can easily lead newcomers astray.

I already gave you the benefit of the doubt here, but you chose to react defensively and in my opinion, unreasonably.
In any case, as far as your knowledge and background, we can only go by what you've stated; and you clearly stated yourself as a "careless tinkerer" and "stumbled" upon solutions. Now in your later post you say "I have put in a lot of time and knowledge to understand what I am doing". So if you provide conflicting information as to your background, nobody can be blamed for making an incorrect assumption regarding your knowledge.

(NEED HELP) signed firmware for 4.4.4 AT&T M8 502 variant

Hello I have a M8 variant 502 (AT&T). It is S-ON. I was messing around the firmware to find something that woud allow my phone to work with newer ROM bases. Then, I found the GPE firmware 3.11.1700.5 to somehow be compatible with CWS_001 (cidnum and modelid match). The phone allowed me to flash that GPE firmware. This is where the issue rises.
- Now my M8 has become a GPE. It only flashes GPE roms successfully. Other Sense-based ROM flashes result in a failed symplinks. I want to use SENSE inferface, which is the whole point of me buying this M8.
- The newest RUU 4.4.4 from HTC does not run on my phone, error 155 (unknown).
- TWRP recovery of my original 4.4.2 ROM also fails at 50%.
What I have tried thus far, but not working
. Flashed different SENSE ROMs 4.4.4 and below
. Ran the newest 3.42.502.1 RUU, error 155 (bootloader relocked, 1.58.502.2 recovery)
. Tried flashing firmware made by SneakyGhost, error signature
. Tried flashing firmware 1.58.502.2 error 43 main version check fail
My thought is that Google-Play-Edition firmware has different filepath than Sense-firmware. The 3.48.502.1 RUU is not properly signed/uploaded on HTC. I regret flashing that gpe firmware. What I don't want to do is to S-Off for $25, for now. My hope is for a signed 3.42.502.1 firmware so I could move back to Sense ROMs.
Anyone or expert can give me some insights? If you get your hands on the 3.48.502.1 firmware signed, I'd appreciate that, please.
You've been messing around with things you don't fully understand, and guessing at solutions. This is a very dangerous thing while modding phones.
- You shouldn't have flashed a GPE firmware if you want Sense. Why did you do this to begin with? If the intent was to get on 3.x firmware, you could have just did OTA or RUU to official 3.48.
- You can't flash a firmware that isn't signed with s-on
- You can't flash an older firmware with s-on
My recommendation is stop messing around and s-off by sunshine. But as you've flashed the GPE firmware, its questionable sunshine will even work.
I've seen a couple other folks get into a (from what I can tell) unrecoverable position by messing about with GPE firmware while s-on. Hopefully, you aren't in that same spot.
I'm sorry but my reply is going to sound rude
First of all, let me apologize but this reply to the post above is going to sound rude.
I own my phone. I can do whatever I want with it, just like any other person who owns an M8. Furthermore, there is a very clear line between modding a S-on device and a S-off one. My device is S-on. Go back and read my post fully, ffs. If any part of it is incomprehensible, I will gladly reword it with other English words that are easier to understand. Why do you even bother re-asking me the questions which I have gone to great length to try finding an answer on my own, before posting here, and have provided the possible answers I found?
To satisfy your little curiosity, no, I was not aware of 3.48 by the time I flashed. I was digging in the HTC M8 forum, only later to find out that there was another subforum for the 502 M8. All the things about unsigned firmwares unable to flash with S-on I am well aware of, thank you very much for unnecessarily googling that for me. If your reason to be here is to ask "why" this and "why" that, don't be here. This is Q&A section; if XDA is only intended for whoever is well versed at phone modding, might as well close it down and open your own forum, or business, like those fake sites. I am aware of Sunshine may S-off my phone. Again, go back and re-read my post, if you care. At this point, it is not justified enough to make me think $25 is worth using a SENSE rom, that my phone is supposed to be made for, not counting firmwares of course. Once more time, my intention here is to look for a properly signed 3.48.502.1 firmware, or useful advice. It does not take a well educated person to google Sunshine. But it does take a stuck up fool to think common knowledge is his best recommendation. Let me tell you something interesting, in case you haven't known/read, my phone runs GPE ROMs just fine.
Move on.

I absolutely agree that its your phone and you can do what you like to it. But your subsequent comments just fall apart after that.
Yes, this is a Q&A section. But XDA is, and has always been a place where the best results will come to those that search, learn and research before acting; instead of jumping in blindly.
And instead of giving a fake apology about sounding rude, then flinging out insults and name calling; how about just taking a breath and not doing those things at all. You may have not found my post helpful. But it was intended to help, and unlike your post, did not contain any insults, personal attacks, or name calling. Just pure and simple facts. If its facts that you find insulting, its you that XDA is not the place for. With over 3,500 thanks from other members, my contribution here is hardly questionable.

Ironically, its very clear for this comment that it is you that did not bother to fully read my post. as the last paragraph of my previous posts clearly states: there have been at least a couple folks on this forum that have rendered their phones inoperable due to messing about with GPE RUUs and/or GPE firmware (on a non-GPE device) while S-on.
Just because you are s-on, doesn't guarantee that your messing with the phone will not have a similar result.
Yes, s-off is not for everyone, and not needed for a lot of things. But it gives a heck of a lot more flexibility to mod or recover, and that is a simple fact.

Again, an incorrect assertion that I did not understand what you posted. If you were completely satisfied with your present position, you obviously wouldn't have started this thread in the first place.
Please seriously re-read my OP
I warned readers that my reply was going to be rude. There was nothing fake about it. Ever heard "I'm sorry but it is going to hurt quite a bit"? To me, your contribution or greatness or w/e it is, was reduced to ash the moment you boasted about it, period. Real.men.do.not.brag. Please don't be like those 21st century internet folks who enjoy collecting virtual 'likes' or 'thanks.' Do respected developers seek that kind of faux reputation? I doubt it.
Your post gave no help, not even a single new thing to the table. It was simply googled facts that I have clearly presented in my OP. I already stated, twice, no S-off is considered for now. Yet, Sunshine was adamantly brought up by you at two separate instances. Please stop, the way you are marketing for them make Sunshine devs look bad; although I know those devs aren't. If buying S-Off is the only thing you could think of, stop regurgitating it here every single time, keep it to yourself please until someone asks specifically how to S-off, thank you very much. I know very well how convenient it is to achieve S-off, and that's exactly why they want $25 for it now.

Did you ever read my post like you meant it? Let me help you out again here: I said I was looking for a firmware compatible with newer base SENSE ROMS, and ended up with 3.19.1700.1 because it was signed by HTC for CWS_001, successfully, mind you. Now I am being assumed that I feel happy about GPE roms. Goodness gracious... It really doesn't take a stuck up guy much time to come up with many hasty assumptions, does it?
Ok let me dumb down what kind of help I am looking for:
. How to extract signed firmware 3.42.502.1
. If not possible, how to obtain signed firmware 3.42.502.1
. Do HTC release their signed firmwares separately from the RUUs?
Moving on.

Sooooo you come to the Q&A looking for help then you are rude and post in this manner to those trying....
Bottom-line you want Sense, they you must run Sense firmware, and if won't be able to really much of anything regarding Flashing ROM's or any development, until you are S-Off which the only thing in "town" is to pay the $$ and move on and then do super CID. So you will be able to flash any firmware.
This is how most on the M8 Community are doing, it going S-off and super CID, in order to flash or run any development.
If not then take it back to stock and stay stock, more searching on your part can answer your questions, but Good Luck, in getting help with Views: 271 and only one that tried to provide assistance....

If regurgitating facts about S-off is considered *help,* then obviously people are not even trying the slightest to help, let alone reading my post. I have repeatedly stated that I.don't.want.to.buy.S.off. Please stop trying to shove it down my throat. I have even dumbed down my question, and the types of answer I am eagerly expecting.
To those who faithfully think that S-off is the only one-and-only-solution, please keep it to yourself and move along. I can very well google it because Sunshine is a commercial service, it's all over the place. Thank you very much.
For the third time, in my third post, I am going to restate my intention here is to seek a SIGNED FIRMWARE 3.42.502.1. or how to extract one from the RUU/OTA :fingers-crossed:
Gosh, talk about a severe deterioration in reading comprehension some people have...
Again, keep that S-off business away from my thread. By deliberately trying to market Sunshine in every single instance, YOU are making Sunshine devs look very bad.

I see you still posting in your manner. Have you tried using the Search function...
btw no one is forcing anything, as no one forced you to go GPE and if you had done some reading and homework you would of know, once you go GPE the files/folder do not allow Sense based ROMs. But you know that now... again your seek for help well, would not of been needed if you Search and done your Homework.
But since your search function is tied to your manners and thankfulness button try looking here and again good luck.

A smart Member like yourself would of know this ^^^^^^ but hey you got it right....
I urge anyone whose only knowledge is worshiping paid S-off to stop derailing my thread. It might be a universal solution; but it is completely irrelevant to my inquiry.
Which word, in this sentence "I am seeking info on signed firmware 3.42.502.1," is too hard to comprehend, geniuses?
I always deny being a smart person. However, I do try to read and fully understand an inquiry before writing a response. It's called being considerate. Yet some people just love to make hasty assumptions...
Ok, here is another try: If you know something about signed firmware 3.42.502.1, please educate me. If you know absolutely nothing about this signed firmware, please refrain from posting your response as it is probably going to be irrelevant. Thank you very much for comprehending :fingers-crossed:

It appears from the looks of things...youll not be getting any help or answers just for the simple fact you keep with the attitude, sarcasm and rudeness of your posts. I have an answer but will not share it,sorry but do not agree with any of your rude bantering. The answers were given to you by judge dredd. You've direspected the only person that was trying to help and continue to do so to everyone who responds. So in short....Good luck...
If your answer involves info on the signed firmware 3.42.502.1, then by all means, I will bend backward/forward/sideward/however you want me to so that you will share it with the entire community. If it, again, is another regurgitation of S-off for $25, I am thankful that you have decided to keep it for yourself. :fingers-crossed:
Remember, dear "recognized contributors," what you share here on the signed firmware 3.42.502.1 will benefit not just me, but the entire flock of those with S-on. I can't talk for others, but I *myself* will thank you dearly for that good deed. Then again who knows if somebody is bluffing, or actually wants to be paid for distributing HTC signed firmwares...
