Camera exposure - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody
I found exposure slider in camera setting has no effect on viewfinder and also on resulted media . Weather was still camera or video.
Any one confirm this or else?

I have the exact same problem, from both front and back cameras. Same in third party camera apps, exposure controls simply do not function as expected, no change at all. HDR picture mode seems to work fine though.
Not a serious enough problem for me to RMA, but it is a small dent in the glory of the S3 for sure..

I also had this issue and was deeply disappointed, because my optimus 2x made much better shots in low light because of the exposure compensation.
I found the solution today: I used the hidden camera menu *#34971539# and discovered that my camera was ZDFE02 and the phone firmware was ZDFE03. If your phone to cam button is greyed out, do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32721917
After copying the file to internal SD, restart, then update and restart. You get new cam firmware and now the exposure works.

[Q] Slow Camera

Hi all.
Recently I've noticed that it takes about 5 (!) seconds from the minute I press the camera button till the shot is actually being taken.
Anyone noticed it?
Someone knows a solution?
Are there any better alternatives to the stock camera app?
Thanks!
Has to do with the focus. It needs to focus to get a nice and sharp picture.

But also when I set the focus to macro or face detection it takes a lot of time
Ive had this issue also. The shutter time is horrible. I have an app called tasker which allows me to change the amount of time it takes for the camera to take the picture once i press the button.
Thanks, Will try that
Unfortunately, tasker is like 6bucks, but well worth it. It does WAY more than just fix the shutter lag. As far as i know, there isnt an app to fix just the lag on the cam. I havent found one anyways..
Take your phone outside when it's bright. Take a shot. The focus and capture should be near instantaneous. If not, then it's a hardware fault and you should have your phone replaced.
If it works, then the reason your cam was slow is due to insufficient lighting. You can't expect any camera to focus and capture instantly in low-light environments. Maxing out the ISO setting will help with the shutter speed but you'll end up with disgusting noisy pictures.
How does Tasker fix the shutter lag???
I use fast burst camera app. It can take 5 pics in quick burst or just single shots. Photos are taken the instant you hit the button

5 pics burst, the image size is disgustingly small from what I hear. But the single pic shot, is that full resolution?

[Q] video camera Zoom

is there a zoom for the video camera?
it seems that the video camera is always zoomed in, is anyone else having this issue?
Did you try volume buttons or a different app?

I believe there's no zoom in stock app
volume button does nothing and theres on screen no option

I haven't found a different app.
any suggestions?
I have also noticed that the camera mode zooms in a little... I can't figure out how to make it not zoom...
I have noticed this as well. Have not had a chance to try other software but this is retarded. I've seen the Motorla Xoom and it does not do this so no idea why this is the case or why we don't hear more about it.
no zoom
I noticed this, too. If you change the resolution to 640x480 it appears "unzoomed", but obviously its just because the res is smaller. Sucks. Even my phone video camera has zoom.
Zooming - Samsung Issue?
Did not even think to check out that feature till now. Yeah, same problem. I can not zoom in or out in video mode with either my tab 10.1 nor my Galaxy SII phone (at least the phone says that "no zoom features available in HD mode"). The volume key does do zoom for both devices when you're in regular camera mode.

[Q] Xperia S Camera(Photo) choppy

Hi Guys,
Just got an Xperia S. I have an issue with the camera. The video is very choppy when taking a picture. Its like I'm shooting the picture in night mode(And I'm not). All settings are default.
Now when i record video its perfect.
Its kind of hard to explain so I've made a video of it which is attached.
Just like to mention that in the camera settings my "Focus mode" setting is greyed out when in the photo mode.(Don't know if this is significant.
My exposure is set to 0. If i bring it all the way down to -2 image isn't choppy anymore but it becomes way too dark.
Anyone else having this issue? Any idea if this is an issue or is the camera like this?
Would it be possible to delete the camera app and reinstall it?
Thanks in advance

Yeah tried that still same issue.
Update: When I'm in sunlight its fine. Its only when I'm indoors/low light that this happens even though the setting is set to manual and not automatic.
Can you post some pictures taken with the phone showing your problem?
Edit: nvm, I thought he meant photo quality since the thread title implies this, but he means video.
mines the same :S also when i press down the camera button during standby it'll take a pic, but when i do it with the home screen on, it doesnt take one...anyone got the same problem?

No i mean the photo quality. When I'm in the camera app its very choppy. Ive returned the phone and waiting on a new unit so i don't have any pictures i took indoors on me but heres 1 which were taken outside. Even in daylight theres a sort of haze.

Are you using a transparent casing? I have a transparent casing on mine and the flash reflects off it into the lens. Just remove the casing and it will be ok, or shoot without flash.

When it is dark, the phone automatically slows shutter speed to increase light to the sensor. This causes the choppiness. This is the disadvantage of a camera phone vs normal camera where you can control the shutter speed.
On the night mode taking shot is always slow. But the pics can be great.
But the above pic shows it may be a problem with the hardware.
I had the same problem but I solved it, by wiping it!! I just had some smoo on the lense is all make sure it's clean

Terrible camera shutter lag in manual mode or other camera apps

When shooting photos in either manual mode in the built-in camera app, or in auto mode in other camera apps like Google Camera, there is a consistent 0.5s to 1s lag between the time in which the shutter button is pressed and the time in which the photo is captured. The lag ALWAYS occurs, every single time, even in perfect lighting conditions and even if focus is already set.
The lag makes it very challenging to capture moving objects.
The issue isn't present in the built-in camera app's auto mode, but in auto mode you can't change important things like white balance.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Nope, no lag in any mode. Well, perhaps 1 out of 6 or 8, but probably due to delayed focus lock. Try cleaning the screen and nearby sensors and worst case a factory reset. I think you have a one-off issue

I've tried it on multiple G4 and V10 devices in stores now. They all have the same issue.
I have similar issue with the stock camera app as well. When i switch from manual mode to auto mode, it lags for almost 2 seconds. But when switching from auto to simple mode, no delay at all. I went to AT&T store to test their display model, and it had no such issue.
I am not sure what could cause it.
I have the AT&T model, stock ROM, not rooted. I have Nova Launcher.

Question Night mode on 10x is garbage

Has anyone noticed too much noise on the 10x lens in nightmode?
Ummmm...f/4.9 apperture, what do you expect from a 1/3.52" sensor.
The perisope is a lens for good (day) light.
You wouldn't shut your Canon 250mm f/5.6 at night without tripod.

The telephoto lens' aren't meant for nightography. Use 1x at night.
Install camera assistant then go into the stock camera settings and do the following...
Camera Assistant
Auto lens switching
Toggle auto lens switching off
This has you truly using the lens you've selected. Cause ordinarily the camera crops the main lens in sometimes even when you choose 3x or 10x lens. Ridiculous! Makes the zoom grainy as hell

Is ridiculous isn't it. Cropping the main lens to give us grainy hell. Works sometimes for the situation but for me it's more of a miss than a hit

They are both there.
Camera Assistant is accessible through settings, near the bottom.
Expert Raw is one of the available modes, like Night and Portrait. Scroll the modes until you see More. Tap, and you'll see the additional modes. You can move them to the main screen if you want.

Ok , but you need to download these first in order to see their menus inside camera app. AND when you try to move Expert raw in main menu camera, you can't because the Expert Raw button becomes grey
