I've got a sgs2 and at my friends house i get network download speeds of 6.45Mbps uploads 2.26Mbps and ping 90ms im on network 3 U.K. But when im in my house i get like 1 signal bar i only get 0.55Mbps its rubbish. When outside signal shoots up 5 bars.
Anyway is there anyway i can improve my signal in doors?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
yes, install an antenna signal booster on your house. you cna attach it to the eaves of your house and run it inside so that your phone recieves the signal more clearly.
How much are they?
Where do i get one from ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Actually, signal boosters does nothing.
Just try several modems.

That is debatable, it works depending on how far the house is away from the cell tower.
It has been shown that signal boosters will work.
His modem does not have a problem as it as it is working fine outside and at other people's house only in his house it does not work properly.

At least he should try different modems because modem gives different results on place to place.......and when u try a different modem then use that at least 50 hrs because modem needs approx. 2 days to settle.

Yes as przemcio510 said baseband version is your modem
Rubbish. Absolute bollocks. This nonsense seems to have taken on the same kind of life battery calibration used have. It's simply not true.
Do you test a modem in different locations/at different times of day to account for variance in reception/signal strength/network performance you might get in different locations/at different times of day ? Absolutely.
Do you 'let it settle for a few days' ?
No. Voodoo.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post lol
Does anyone know of a good modem or any tweaks to make 3g signal any better?? Thanks for your help
I'm looking for the same thing.
Did you try flashing the modem with the tweaks to make your 3G faster?
Im not sure i tried using a 3g super charger script and an app called 3g/4g speed optimizer and im still testing...did you have any suggestions DJquick?
I always use kb1 that gives me the best signal and speed

KB5 works best for me. I'm typically in the New York city and Boston areas. Speedtest.net clocked my 3g @4Mbits down and 2.5 up last night.
just try a few different ones. If you get a bad signal or dropped calls in a certain area; it's because of the area, not your radio. You can use 10 different radios and it wouldn't make a difference.

Sorry to be a bother. I have serached numerious post about simular problems with details pretaining to a fix in this matter. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777. The Rom I am currently running is ShoStock V.2.2.6, Android 4.0.3 with the cheerypicker Kernel and bandband ver.I777UCPLCS. The problem I have been having and did not have before flashing this rom, is that my 3G signal and HSPA+ notification keeps flickering back and forth. Plus my data speed have slowed up a bit. Yes, I could flash back to another rom but I really like the features of this one. Is there a fix to this problem is it a known problem? Thanks so much.
Try a different modem.
Also H+ only shows when using data, if not it will show the 3g instead.

I figured that LiLChris. But it keeps flickering back and forth. Plus this is mow happening in areas that I once had a full H+ signal with very fast speeds.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
The flickering is part of ShoStock and most other ROMs. It shows you the true connection; as LiLChris said, it uses H+ only when using data, and defaults to 3G when no data is being sent. AT&T usually just hides this and makes it show H+ all the time, even though that's not accurate.
I know, it freaked me out at first too lol. As for data speeds, try different modems and also changing APN settings.
EDIT: I didn't know the problem was when you're sending data (you posted a couple secs before I did). APN settings and a different modem may help you out with that.
Sounds like modem issues as stated. In my area modems can vary by up to 2mbs depending on which one I try

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

You can disable the fastdormancy if you want. there is an app developed by GOKHANMORAL called "togle fastdormancy for galaxy s3". you can find it on the forum. but my suggestion is keep it on as it saves battery if you are using GLOBE. I am not aware if it is supported in SMART or SUN network...
i highly doubt SUN has fd.. yeah, Globe does have fd but i disable it to save battery... i dont really use it

from what i understand i suggest you leave it enabled because globe supports fd. it will save you more battery than disabling it as it will draw more battery from your device as it stays on the highest possible cignal type or powerstate. i assume when you said "i dont really use it" is because your not enabling mobile data on your s3?
i rarely enable data on my S3 since I am on prepaid and finals week is here, i need to save some money lol

This is correct although you will get slower overall speeds since it is moving from the lower, battery efficient 3g states to the faster, battery draining h+ states in twenty second intervals.
If battery is your priority leave it enabled, if you want the fastest speeds disable it- but it will drain fast and you will have no signal in areas that only have the old antennas.
Globe tweaked it recently, before it would go all the way down to g, now it idles in 3g.
Personally I leave it enabled as losing signal is not an option for me.

A simple explanation...
1. If your carrier supports the fastdormancy AND you are using DATA frequently than LEAVE IT ENABLED AS IT WILL SAVE THE BATTERY...
2. If your carrier doesnt support the fastdoemancy AND you are using DATA OR NOT, disable it as it will save the battery...

If you move into an area that is only 2g and you have fd disabled you will not have cellular signal. There are still some areas in manila and a lot in the farther provinces that are 2g only. You will not be able to make calls, sms, etc.
Imho it's wiser to leave it on as patel suggests.
But hey those are good speeds! Never had those in any part of manila, laguna or batangas. Looks like the bandwidth is all yours. Lucky you

Disabling fast dormancy essentially turns off the 2g antennas of the phone. You can search this forum and you will see posts from last year stating people losing signal in places like capiz, batangas etc losing cellular signal with fb disabled and getting back the signal when enabling it.

Having gprs registered in your phone doesn't necessarily mean you're in a 2g area only.
You're in an area that has 3g but has shifted you to lower bandwidth most probably due to congestion. It's a different story when you're in an area that has no 3g.
Afaik switching to lower power states is disabling the higher powered antennas and switching to the lower powered ones. The inverse also holds true.
You will only see the difference if you are in a 2g only area for an extended time. Try staying in a 2g only place like some areas of san Juan batangas and you will see that you're the only one with no signal while your friends dumb phones will be perfectly fine.

As ive said. Im currently in davao. But im from a province from surigao del sur.and i tell you theres no such thing as 3g on those areas. My s2 has always been set to only connect to a 2g network as theres no point on setting it to auto switch between gsm and wcdma as there is no 3g network in my province. My s3 is the oposite. Iv set it to only connect on wcdma because data is always enabled on this device. I only have signal loss on my s3 if im in an area where there is no 3g. And both my devices hav fb disabled. I hope this clears everything.

People I would really appreciate your feedback on this, during the past 3 weeks I have noticed that my download speeds had been drastically slow even when I have 4G and speed test coming back on results over 4MB download per second I see this is mostly during some times of the day, late at night it is fine, as an example when I tried to download an app from the market or as well when I'm using my phone as a hot spot it takes over a minute to download 2 MB of data. I have unlimited data and my friend my cousin and his wife are having the same issue, I was having it on my S3 now on my S4, my friend and cousin on their Note 2 and my cousins wife on her iphone 5 we all have unlimited data and now we are wondering if verizon is playing a dirty trick on us.... does anybody here are seeing this problem? are you unlimited or limited? I have called Verizon and they say they are only throttling 3G, not on 4G I already did their stupid apps deletes and resets factory resets etc etc, and I don't want to root my S4 yet in case they blame it on the phone and want me to exchange it.
Thanks,
A worried data devourer
I've got unlimited and use about 50gb-200gb a month. No throttling. Chicago.

I am also having this problem, especially when I download apps in the market. I never had any problems with my S3. I wonder if it is due to the new NFC SIM. I am going to verizon and asking them for the regular sim and see if it solves the problem. I really hope it is not the phone. Also I used to get full 4G signal at home, now I get only 4 bars, it even drops to 3 sometimes.

I noticed the speed fluctuations when the Google play store started with the new updates. It would be with various apps updating and it would be on the network and it was also affecting speeds while on WiFi. It would take 5 min to download a 2 MB file that should only take a few seconds. I do not think the throttle is through the carrier but it may be on the google servers depending on which one you are connected to. I noticed recently that it has gotten better but there could be maintenance going on that is slowing down services and also with the weather around the country there could by bypasses going on that can affect downloads. Just my guess.
Just popped my sim into the galaxy nexus still experienced slower speeds. Maybe the weather or some other factor is at play

It might just be your location. If anyone in the range of the cell tower your phone is connected to is using a lot of bandwidth or it is heavily populated with 4G users, you will feel the effects of it. Have you replicated it in a completely different area that's less populated and is greater than 5 miles away?

If anyone in the range of the cell tower your phone is connected to is using a lot of bandwidth or it is heavily populated with 4G users, you will feel the effects of it. Have you replicated it in a completely different area that's less populated and is greater than 5 miles away?

Well I kind of doubt it would be the location, the reason is because I work traveling and during this past two weeks I was in Rock Hill SC near Charlotte NC, and Duluth GA near Atlanta, and was experiencing the same issues mmmmmm
Verizon does not throttle you. I'm currently using unlimited 4G and have been using unlimited since it first came out. They have not once throttled me.

indeed
Oddly enough, my 4g is fine but I have had similar problems with the play store and YouTube on my home network...

I've got unlimited and use about 50gb-200gb a month. No throttling. Chicago.

People like this are why there is no more unlimited data for all, or virtually anyone anymore.

porn. lots of it.
Verizon only throttles 3g and only when the tower being used is overloaded. During my year and a half with them I have never been throttled. I mostly always get 4g and I always pull about 15mbps and 1-2 on 3g
