Today, i've connected my S2 to my PC via the original Samsung USB cable. Phone's memories (int and ext) are seen, accessible. I can take files from the phone, but when i try to add a file (.apk file) to the phone, the transfer window just hungs and does nothing...I've tried Mass storage, MTP, Kies, but nothing. (Kies is crashing my whole system). Tried debugging on/off...still nothing. Cannot try through wifi, since my pc is connected via cable to the internet, and my phone is connected to a hacked neighbours network
I've searched the forum and didn't find any similar case
EDIT: I can only transfer photo files.

Exit kies, open task manager and kill all kies processes. Your apk file transfer should be fine now

then rename the extension if you're apk files and then transfer. In your phone, rename the extension back to apk.
It works fine here but i don't know why it's not working for you.
Ps: use mass storage mode

Same here.
After I updated from GingerBread to Jelly Bean, I can't transfer apk files from PC to phone using bluetooth.
Trying a file transfer in debugging mode, some apk files go through and some don't.
I get a 'Skip this file?' popup (maybe gloup81 gets a popup that hides behind other windows, so the system doesn't really hang there).
If I remove the special characters (like "-"," _", or ".") from the name, or sometimes shorten it, the apk goes through.
It looks like a filename parsing problem on Jelly Bean (since these file names had no problem on GingerBread).
Goto Wireless And Networks - and USB Connection.
Try this
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

I searched on the web and found some similar problems but not an answer to what is happening to my phone.
My GS3 is running CheckROM v5.5 android 4.1.1 and I cannot connect it succesfully to any computer via USB.
Inicially, after I got CheckROM, it was working, but I don't know what I did that made it stop working.
I've tried to connect it to a PC and a Mac, tried with Kies and without it. On the mac also tried with and without the Android File Transfer.
I tried with USB Debugger on and off, too.
I am almost certain the problem is in the phone, because when I plug it there is no message about choosing MTP or Camera mode, or anything like that, it's just like I am charging it on the wall.
Also, I am able to sync it to Kies with Wi-fi connection on my PC.
What I really want is to be able to transfer music and larger files to the phone via USB.
My phone does not have an external SD card, just internal memory. Is there something I'm missing that can fix this?
Sorry about any english mistakes ;}

Cut and Paste via Windows Explorer .

The phone won't be detected by the computer. It does not appear on windows explorer.
Then you have no drivers install drivers see sticky on page one of General .

I have this weird problem, I can't move files from my PC to S3 but it can do everything else.
What works:
1. I can see my phone in windows explorer including all the files.
2. I can copy files inside the phone. (using the phone)
3. I can copy folders from S3 to PC.
What doesn't:
1. When connected to USB i can see the files in windows explorer in the phone, i can right click and copy them or drag but it does not paste on the destination folder.
2. When I try to copy files on the computer from the SD card to the same folder using windows explorer a pop up window comes out saying "Cannot copy (title of file being copied): The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". But it is not disconnected nor did it stop because i can still browse the SD Card and the phone in windows explorer. When I copy the same file and folder inside the phone it works.
3.If i use Odin to try and flash another image it sees the phone but just sits without transfering even when phone is in download mode
What I already tried
1. Checking and un-checking USB debugging.
2. Turning the phone off an on again.
3. Using another laptop. So I guess the problem is in the phone.
4. Using another USB cable.
5. Factory reset
6. fix permissions in rom manager

Phone: Samsumg Galaxy S3 GTI9300

Any help appreciated!
Hey
Is the s3 drivers properly installed on your laptop??
Sent from my Awesome GT-I9300..!
I had a similar experience... here's what I did:
Uninstall kies.
Reboot pc
Reinstall kies
Enable usb debugging on your galaxy
Insert usb
Browse and copy.
Recommendation: use the same usb port every time you connect your device to the pc. At least on my system, it tries installing new Samsung modem drivers with every usc port I plug my phone into. And that's just silly.

I checked the Samsung S3 on several occasions and could see the content of the sdcard0 (internal memory) and the removable SD card from the Windows Explorer on a desktop PC with Windows 7 using USB via the MTP protocol.
I did not download or delete anyting via USB.
I noticed both memories were a bit low on space and a few folders on the external card had files I could not understand, so I searched the Play Store for apps that would let me view details (like file and folder sizes) on the external sdcard. I used these apps to read the sdcard, but did not get any wiser.
I then obtained AirDroid from the Play Store and transferred files from S3 to the PC, but did not delete from or upload anything to the S3. AirDroid worked fine. I decided to use USB to delete S3 files a few days later. Before that I used the the PC for a couple days for reading online newspapers from Firefox, but did not do anything that should have changed the workings of the USB. There were a few Windows 7 updates (initiated at PC logoff) that progressed normally with no warnings about incompatible files etc. A few days later I noticed the USB connect to S3 had stopped working. For example I did not see the Auto-play dialog on the PC and nothing from the S3 showed in the Windows Explorer. I used the the USB data cable that came with the Samsung S3.
However, the the Windows Explorer USB connect still worked for a ZTE Blade III using the USB cable that came with the ZTE on the same PC.
Q1. how do I make Windows Explorer see the S3 again?
Q2. what may have been the cause? (can I download android apps or do something on the Windows 7 PC to help to pin-point the problem).

Install Samsung USB drivers

Thanks JJEgan,
What and from where should I download? The S3 USB connect was working for weeks. Could a faulty update from Microsoft have caused this? The S3 is not rooted.
I have downloaded from the Play Store that I assume contains well-behaved programs only, or are there play-store programs that are known to interfere with the USB by design/accident when they run. The PC Windows Explorer USB connect worked with the ZTE Blade 3 mobile after the S3 had gone wrong. If I install Samsung USB drivers is there a risk the ZTE USB connect would go wrong too/instead? I don't know what is required, so I might make the problem worse by downloading the wrong libraries or not doing it the right way.
Is there some program/app I can install on either the PC or Android that would pull in USB libraries and dependencies automatically, a bit like Synaptic package managers in Ubuntu?
OK, I've been using Android phones for years and never had this problem!
When try to connect the phone to the pc I get the connection sound but nothing shows up in windows file manager? I've tried 3 cables (usb c to c and a to c).
I've clicked Transfer files on the s21, nothing.
But if I click transfer images I do get the phone appearing in file manager and I can access just the DMIC folder. So the cables working.
Is there some option deep in the phone that needs to be switched on to allow file transfer????
Thanks. . .
To answer my own question...
Samsung Smart Switch needs to be installed on the PC to provide the right drivers! Never had that before with any Android phone!!
