This mod enables on-screen soft keys and disables capacitive buttons on the Atrix 4G without modifying the framework-res.apk! The script searches for entries and changes them, so no other entries are affected, and no files are replaced. This mod also includes an addon.d script.

What is addon.d?
On some ROMs, like Cyanogenmod, there are scripts in /system/addon.d that run during a ROM update or flash. They can backup and restore system apps (like Gapps), or perform many other functions. This mod includes an addon.d script, so the mod is not lost during a ROM update! If your ROM doesn't support addon.d, this mod should still flash properly, but you won't benefit from addon.d.
Tested and Confirmed to work on:
CyanogenMod 9 turl1
CyanogenMod 9 jokersax11
CyanogenMod 10 epinter
CyanogenMod 10 jokersax11
CyanogenMod 10.1 epinter (thanks babSky!)
ICS leak
It should work on any AOSP based Android 4+ ROM. Let us know if it works!
Note:
Because this doesn't modify and/or replace the framework-res.apk, this will NOT disable the capacitive backlights, just the keys themselves. To disable the backlights in CM9 or CM10, go to Settings -> Display -> Automatic backlight -> Enable Use Custom and in Edit other levels, change button values to 0.

Ah, I see that the backlight settings functionality finally works on CM10. Good find. :good:
If I may suggest, add a restore script?

I have thought about that. I will make one and add it to the OP if there is enough demand.
I updated some stuff in the zip to make it work with an uninstall/disable zip that I made. See OP.

Not yet, but the scripts look OK to me.

Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk 2
Updated zips. It now also puts a script in /system/addon.d, so you don't have to flash this mod again after every ROM update (assuming your ROM supports addon.d scripts. CM does)!
Updated to support the ICS leak.
I'm using epinter cm ROM on my atrix like you but my capacitive buttons don't light up once I lock the phone. will the custom values allow them to work properly? in my settings it shows -1 for buttons is this why they don't light up after I lock the phone? I'm confused on how to edit the values to make them work properly.

a request
i have a request. can you make something by which we can switch it on/off within the rom itself or better it gets activated automatically once we connect the phone to hdmi? i think you know that epinter's rom works fine with a webtop(of course with pretty low resolution) but the thing which is missing is a navigation button like back, home. so it becomes difficult. but with your invention its really solved. but in normal use of phone it takes a part of the screen size, also getting to the menu button in an app is difficult. so old navigation is better in phone use. Please consider my request.
Does this can be aplied on cm7.2....?

What you are asking for can not be done with a simple mod. It would need to be baked into the ROM.

Grab the version you want and install. After install (and every reboot) you will have to rotate your phone to landscape mode then back to reset the size of the keyboard. If you dont want to do that you can install the V5-Gnex version. It will always be the correct size but is bad with cutting off words half way through the swype.

- Sometimes torch flashlight not work(sometimes works)
How to flash :
- It works only on GSM phone( not tested on CDMA)
- U should flash this rom on an ICS rom(I mean, your kernel should be 3.X, and your stock rom should be ics)
- Install safetrap or bootstrap to flash this rom( I think boot manager not work on this rom)
- Wipe/Reboot & enjoy it
How to boot into CM bootmenu:
- During power on, when U see the led turns RED, press(NOT press hold, just press again and again) the volum key down
- U can starting press the volum key down when U saw the moto logo if U don't know when to press this key

PS:Someone said BM compatibile version not works on their phone, so flash this version at your own risk.
This snapshoot was the first release, the signal bar display problem had fixed now
Maybe this is the last ics release for MagicMod, I'm mergeing my changes into jellybean now, so the next release would be jellyben rom, also, I'll add more functions in it.

"Chameleon OS (or ChaOS for short) is a custom Android ROM that gives the user more control than they can experience on any other Android ROM. Starting with a CyanogenMOD base, we customize each piece to give ultimate control while maintaining the simplicity we all love about Android. The most notable feature of ChaOS is the theme engine, which can apply different pieces of themes in a true mix-and-match style. The launcher has been completely overhauled with tons of options that you'd normally need to download a third-party launcher for, such as home screen previews, folder sorting, and folder icon styles. The Messaging app has also had some UI retouches, including messaging bubbles and quick emoji button."

Nice work. I love the MIUI theme engine. When I used to play with MIUI I used a different launcher anyway. Daddy needs his app drawer
How do we get .zip themes to play nice with this (from the miui forums)? Also after resetting theme my theme manager fc's no matter what. Thanks for the hard work!
I haven't run into the FC of Theme Manager. Did you wipe and format system? As for themes, it takes the native ctz chameleon themes and V4 MIUI mtz themes.

love the theme and the bootanimation .. one thing wanted is that when press home button, it gives the overall view of all screens so for a fraction , the widgets of the screens next to the home screens remains for a second in and goes off ..another thing is whenever i drag an app to home screen after reboot the name of the app goes off , not a problem for me but maybe for oders !! Other than the feel is superb ... thanks fr amazing ROM.
This rom has the least bugs out there compared to other roms. And I do know this rom is a chameleon and it has to bland in but I can't see text at some points xD it just blands in with background way too much

That's a good one. Blending in is what chameleons do.
Haha glad u like it also not sure what u did but MTP works for me on this Rom and I didn't have to install anything. Makes me wonder why AOKP is buggy for me :-$

Hmm this sounds interesting. Might be trying this out. Care to post screenshots?
The real home screen looks a bit different as I'm not using chameleon launcher

Do the houcha kernels work with this rom?
Via LG OG running Rootbox 4.2.2
Very nice and slick rom so far. A few issues I've stumbled upon.
* GPS does not work (no lock, no satellites detected)
* restoring calls from android tuner free breaks Contacts.
* restoring sms from android tuner free restores in random order.
* pushing the mic on the default android keyboard brings up voice typing, which immediately FCs and then the keyboard will not work again until you disable voice typing in the settings.
Good luck and keep up the good work.

GPS works here I get 15/22 sets and restoring msg also does it in right order maybe it's the app and contacts always brake for me no matter on which rom I restored the call log

I ended up using houcha kernel and my GPS started working again. And it looks like android tuner free has different backup formats for both calls and sms between 4.1 and 4.2. SMS Backup and Restore worked fine bringing sms from 4.1 to 4.2, but ATF required a backup on 4.2 in order to restore to 4.2 for calls. Still can't get the messages to restore in the right order though.
Still, now moderately more functional in those buggy areas. :good:
One problem i noticed is that whenever i drag an app to home screen after reboot the name of the app goes off ... !
Old School TabletUI On The Bleeding Edge of Android Builds!
This mod is intended for Stock build JSS15Q. It requires your device to be rooted.

}
(Nova Launcher as default launcher - Read why below)
Prerequisites:
>> You must be running STOCK build JSS15Q.
>> Your device must be rooted.
>> You must be using a custom recovery.
Instructions:
1. MAKE A FULL NANDROID BACKUP!! This works for me, and I assume it will work for you. I will not be responsible for your device getting all messed up, with no way to go back, so just make a backup first, OK?
2. Download the correct flashable zip for the build you are running. There is a corresponding Restore zip as well that you can flash to get back to stock: Update: Added mods that contain scrosler's Advanced Power Menu mod, because you can't flash each separately.
ODEX - TabletUI-Stock-Odex-JSS15Q.zip ---- Odex Restore zip --- TabletUI + Advanced Power Menu - Odex*DEODEXED - TabletUI-Stock-DeOdexed-JSS15Q.zip ---- Deodexed Restore zip --- TabletUI + APM - Deodexed*>>>If the links above aren't working try here.<<<
* The Advanced Power Menu is all the work of @scrosler! If you use it be sure to pop over to his APM thread and click his Thanks Button! Thanks again scrosler!!:highfive:
3. Reboot into recovery and flash the file you just downloaded. (I used CWM recovery, but this should work the same in all custom recoveries. If you have any issues see Step 1!)
4. Boot up your tab and enjoy the TabletUI!!
4.1. You will notice that the home screen with the stock launcher is all messed up. Install a third party launcher from the Play store and it should fix this. I am personally using Nova.
Issues: This mod is based on my AOSP tabletUI patches in the Auto-Patcher and I will assume brings with it all the same caveats:
Multi-User: If you use multiple user profiles on your tab then this mod is not for you! Notifications from your other, inactive user profiles will be seen in your active profile.
Device Encryption: It was reported that enabling encryption in conjunction with tabletUI will lead to boot loops. Do not use this mod if your device is encrypted or you intend to encrypt it!
Persistent Notifications: Some persistent notifications, like the alarm clock when you have an alarm set, will not be seen.
P.S. The Quick Settings panel, with the tiles, is gone in TabletUI mode. There is a limited settings panel that can be flipped to by tapping the header of the notification panel popup. Please don't ask me to modify this settings panel, I have tried before without success.
Thanks/Credits:
barrmulio - for all his original work on TabletUI.
scrosler - for his handy empty flashable zip, that I made use of.
and scrosler again! - For his Advanced Power Menu Mod that I integrated with this mod!
majdinj - for his DeOdex/Odex tool
teshxx - for his Deodexed Factory Image that the deodexed files are based on!
Asus - for this awesome device
and last but not least...
Google - for leaving in the old TabletUI framework, even though they don't use it anymore!
Changelog
2013/08/24
Initial JSS15Q Odex TabletUI release.
JSS15Q Odex Stock Restore.
2013/08/25
Deodexed JSS15Q TabletUI and Restore added.
Integrated scrosler's Advanced Power Menu mod with Odex & Deodexed TabletUI mods!
Thanks! I am using this in combination with my 24 dpi nav-bar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412699). Need to work on changing the font/icon size of the nav-bar now.

Here are the Deodexed Stock TabletUI zip and a zip that will Restore all Deodexed Stock files in case you decide TabletUI is not your cup of tea.
THESE FILES HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED - AT ALL - MAKE A FULL BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING!!
... ahem, Now that is out of the way. These are based on teshxx's Deodexed Factory Image - JSS15Q. Thanks @teshxx!
If someone will confirm this working I will add them to the OP and modify the title accordingly.
Thanks in advance... ...make a backup!
EDIT: Thanks to mssam for testing and confirming this works!:good:
Links added to OP.
yeah, it works in tablet ui on clean 1.5 deodex, but it knocks out the advanced power menu. Still tinkering around tho...

And yeah, it will definitely knock out the advanced power menu because this replaces framework-res.apk and android.policy.jar, the 2 files where the magic happens for advanced power menu.

I just updated the OP with links to zips that will enable both TabletUI and @scrosler's Advanced Power Menu!
I am runing the Odex version and everything is working awesome here. Its amazing how much you miss that reboot to recovery when it's not there!
The Deodexed version is as yet untested, so exercise some caution.
Big thanks to scrosler for being so damn cool!!:highfive:

Thanks a lot! I just tested the odex TabletUI with the Advanced Power Menu and it worked like a champ! Same thing on CleanRom 1.5. The deodex TabletUI with the Advanced Power Menu works just as good. You are absolutely correct when you say its amazing how much you miss that reboot, or reboot to recovery when it's not there. It just makes things so much more convenient when you have it. Thanks again. I sure others will enjoy it. :good:

The patches I used are the ones I help maintain for the Auto-Patcher for AOSP roms. The same basic patches for 4.2 are here on GitHub.
I'll attach a diff of the changes I made to JSS15Q as well. If you apply these to your rom you'll be enjoying TabletUI in no time!

No, but you can use the Auto-Patcher, that I linked to 2 posts above, to automatically produce similar TabletUI mods for CM10.2. It should be working for the latest official nightlies.
Edit: Thanks mmikeee! Beat me to the punch.:good:

Phone won't set up
Wiped everything, installed the ROM and then the PAGapps. Once phone boots up and I select a language I get the unfortunately setup wizard has stopped. Any ideas what I can do to fix that?

I'm not running this ROM but just finished porting something over from the international S4 and ran into something similar.
Try wiping, flashing the ROM only (no gapps) and then reboot to your home screen. Reboot into recovery again, wipe cache and dalvik, flash gapps, then reboot.

ok its back and fully functional. CM made some changes to a method that is called by the setup wizard, surprised more people using a cm base arent having this issue.

ya that was caused by a change cm made to the enable wifi method, so when it was merged it broke the setupwizard since its still looking for the old method. the newest rom fixed it.
Active Display
Is anyone else having issues with the active display not working? I have enabled it, but it isn't working. There is also a clock widget on my lockscreen that I can't figure out how to get rid of either. Wonder if that is causing the active display not to work. Hope someone can help

ok so
1. the clock on the lockscreen is called cLock u can access those settings from settings/interface/lockscreen/Clock widget
2. active display enable in settings/active display. i also recommend enabling notification text, hide low priority and setting pocket mode to always. to use it leave your phone on your desk and send your self a message, your phone will show active display hands free. also you can cover your prox sensor(to the right of the earpiece) for the threshold time in active display settings (stock is 5 sec) then move your hand and it will enable active display. you can also blacklist applications from triggering active display within its settings.

yes, this rom has added features that we personally added, things like working IR, and active display along with a few other little things. The base is the same. I am also not sure if the other dev has a gs4 like we do or is just building. The choice is yours, ours will remain unofficial as we are making our own modifications to the cyanfox base.
