Hey guys,
Just bought a prime online and it's already starting to give me problems; specifically, it doesn't seem to want to charge the dock/tablet.
Is this the standard charger everyone has? Searched Google and I see only the more rectangular one
Any help would be appreciated

That's the Nexus 7 charger. Did you buy it new or second hand?
Haha. Awesome.
And I got it 2nd hand off ebay
I'm not guessing that's why it's not charging fully? Aka barely charges only when turned on and never charges the dock
Sent from my HTC Ruby using xda app-developers app
Yeah, they have different Amp and Voltage values which likely means your Prime isn't getting sufficient power from the adapter charge the tablet and dock. Drop the seller a message explaining you received the wrong charger adapter.
Good luck.
got this one from amazon because oem is sketchy at best. I only use this to charge my prime now since it fits the dock better and doesnt get as hot while charging

Thank you for the responses gents.

I've got that one too as a spare - but I don't have any problems with the original Asus charger either.

I figure it just gets too hot and there is the matter of wanting my usb cord to be intact when I need it. I think for 9 bucks its worth it.

I've got that one to, but I'm kind of reluctant to use it because when I do I get "extreme lag" and weird screen issues (non-responsive). It's probably just a bad unit though.

It's probably normal. I had a charging issue and thought it was the charger so I bought a new one, but it turned out I had to open the tablet to get it fixed. I don't get this issues with the oem charger so I just keep the other one as backup. Got scared it was sending power to the wrong pins but that's just paranoia I guess!

just ran a mini test of stock vs aftermarket charger. you are correct. the aftermarket charger makes the touch screen a lot more volatile than the oem charger. That said I dont really use it with the cord installed so I will probably continue to only charge it with the amazon cord and save my oem for flashing emergencies.
I picked up my backup cord the day after I plugged in my prime and nothing happened. not a good feeling.
Thought I'd share what happened with my charger.
Bought my prime about a month ago and was having issues with charging. Sometimes it would go into charging mode and other times it wouldn't. At first it appeared that I had to unplug the charger and let it rest before it would work.
FInally I found a bad connection between the charging block and the wall adaptor that slides on to the chargin block.
The 2 loop prongs that stick up out of the charging block seemed to be the problem.
I first tried to open up the loops a bit by using a small screwdriver to spread apart the loops, as they seemed a bit squashed. This didn't do it.
Then I pulled the prongs away from the charger block SLIGHTLY, snapped the wall adapter back on and its worked flawlessly since

My device suddenly will no longer charge. When I plug the power supply in, it still says not charging. Please, if anyone knows what to do please reply?
Try another cable if you have one. Reboot, factory reset. If that doesn't help send it back.
I read somewhere (In this forums "I believe") the charger has a shutout mechanism when overheating and sometimes gets stuck.
What resolved the problem was placing the adapter in a plastic bag inside the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
Right after after that the adapter started to work.
Ok, now this is weird... After unplugging for about 10 minutes I then plugged the charger back in and the tablet detected it right away and began to charge....
Is it possible the charger shut itself down because it got too hot?
I don't know what to think-
Can the charger go into some kind of thermal shutdown? Can the charger overheat if left plugged into the wall for an extended period of time?
I was using my tablet with the charger plugged in for over an hour... thats when I noticed suddenly it was no longer at 100 percent battery, and that it had stopped charging. The charger was cold to the touch, like it wasn't even plugged into the wall.
Is it possible that the tablet switches off the charger when the battery reaches a certain charging threshold? I noticed that when the charger started working again the battery capacity had dropped to 90 percent... Is it possible that the tablet can determine it has reached full charge capacity and switch the charger off even though it is plugged in?
My tablet was perfect up until this happened, and now I am concerned since I only have about 2 weeks to return to New-egg- after that I have to deal with Asus!
Any thoughts?

Would probably be more productive if you read the replies in your post.
I did the firmware updates today, but once again, my prime is not charging. I'm down to 20percent battery. I tried bending the 2 prongs a little inward on the wall adapter after separating the 2 halves of the charger, but it did not help.
I put the charger in a plastic bag and threw it in the freezer. will take out after 15 minutes and see if it has something to do with thermal reset.
I don't know what to do at this point. Is it the tablet, or the charger that is bad.
If I order another charger online, I will loose my window to return the tablet to new egg. I would hate to return the tablet if it is just a bad charger, since the tablet has no defects at all, and I just skinned the damn thing too.
Any other Ideas to fix this? otherwise, should I return the tablet or order another charger and cable online?

The freezer trick did nothing, So I again separated the 2 halves of the charger- this time I took a miniature pair of Nose pliers and *really* bent the 2 copper prongs in further ( I was really scared it would snap off) but after bending them inward and rejoining the 2 halves, it started charging again. What BS.
I will have to see if it works from now on or not. The problem was very intermittent to begin with. I am hoping this rules out that my tablet is bad....
My guess is that the copper contacts inside the AC charger must be separating when they heat and contract, causing intermittent / loss of contact.
I wouldn't be suppressed if this problem starts to happen all over the place to others... its just a matter of when. PISS POOR DESIGN BY ASUS OF THIS CHARGER.
I will update again, once I know the problem does not return.
Feel free to comment on this ordeal if you wish-
Problem Returned
The Problem returned . tablet stopped charging at 51 percent. adapter plugged in but software says "not charging"
I Am Returning my tablet back to new egg for a refund. I am done with this.
For all I know, it could be a problem with the battery and have nothing to do with the charger. It's just not worth it any more.
I AM VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. I really loved the tablet....
I won't buy another one from Asus. I will wait a few more months and get a different brand with ICS.
this happened to me after I applied the new update. Very confused. I am trying the freezer method now but I feel like that will not work. I have also been charging my galaxy nexus with it so I am thinking maybe it disrupted it but it was charging this morning. HELP PLEASE!

Did you resolve your issue?
I contacted Asus, and I swear, the people running tech support are Clueless.
The guy said, maybe its a bad charging port and said- ship it back to asus for repair... I tend to think it is software related..... I won't ship it back and they said they will not replace it with another one, so I will get a refund instead. If anyone has seen this or knows anything, please help.

I think the charger is poorly made. My first transformer did that and I had to buy a new adapter. Of course my transformer broke later (by my kid) now I have an extra adapter for my prime. Smell the adapter and see if it smells like it's burnt...my previous one burnt out I think cause it had a burnt smell to it.
Go Figure
After aprroximatelhy 40 days, my Prime would not longer charge using the power adapter, although I could still charge it by plugging it in to the usb port on any of my PCs. So, I figured the adapterr was bad and I purchased a new one at Office Depot.
The new unit came with a cable. Just out of curiosity, I tried using the new adapter with my old cable, and guess what ... it Prime wouldn't charge. So, I tried the new cable with the old (presumably bad) adapter, and it charged fine.
its odd that the old cable charges the unit when plugged into a usb port, but not the power adapter.
I mention my scenario in case anyone else runs into a simiilar situation. A new cablee is alot cheaper than a new adpater/cable package.
So glad I am getting a refund for this piece of junk right before I went to package my Prime up to return it my charger stopped charging my dock and or tablet so the charger itself must be faulty...... I imagine everyones will die soon enough what a lack of quality control all around with the Prime

Failure rates on the Primes is less than 1% according to Gary from Asus. The chargers are the same chargers that have been used since the TF101 days.

And have been burning up and lacking quality since the TF101 days... lol
And again, guys, don't just take Gary for his word, statistics are easily molded-as-needed; I don't dislike Gary, I'm not saying he isn't helping or telling what he believes to be true (I'm glad ASUS at least has a voice around, albeit a marketing one), but isn't it a little early to have concrete figures on the defect rates?
Surely retailers haven't finished processing their numerous returns, and I doubt this figure accounts for working Primes with minor defects or single defective parts/features.
And this figure absolutely does not account for the lack of functioning GPS seen in units that have it listed; they removed it from the spec sheet probably for this exact kind of statement...

I am assuming you are talking strictly about the charger then because the failure rate of something bring wrong with the Prime has to be around 50%

Well then this doesnt include the lockup issues because theres no way thats accurate this 1% must only include devices with some real hardware failure not all the other issues everyone is complaining about Asus probably considers this stuff "working as expected" when in reality its crap for us users.
*Sigh*...
Had the same problem with the TF101... After a while the tablet suddenly wouldn't charge anymore and it turned out to be the cable which suddenly went bad.
Now again the exact same problem with the TF201. This is pretty damn annoying, will contact customer support but am wondering if someone has experience with ebay cables that do work.
Already bought this one: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130678359515&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:NL:1123
But of course that doesn't properly charge either (oh, and I still have an original cable from the TF101 which works fine, so it definitely IS the cable). The tablet responds (turns on) and charges as if connected to USB port of the pc or something but doesn't fast charge. (Pins seem fine, nothing out of the ordinary to be seen).
So also a warning, be careful with charger and cable! Like the rest of the prime it is very sensitive to malfunctioning :/ Quite disappointed that they didn't address this with the TF201 as charger and cable were an issue with TF101 as well.
do you always yank the cable directly to detach ur device from the charger? I've been using mine for a long time now, it's still as good as new and charging well.
The key is to treat the cable like cheap failure prone chunk of crap that will fail. I got a second cord for power immediately. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007LI2QJW/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M2C_SC_dp_1

Ehm, nope... I use it with care. Never pull at the cable but just take it out at the connector itself. But I guess you should always keep it in one straight line or something.

Hmmm, nice option... I think I also have a proper power adapter which simply supplies 12v all the time (where the asus one switches to 5V once fully charged). Does that matter? Being at 12v all the time?

The power brick isnt the issue... The cable from the TF101 works on both chargers, the cable of the TF201 on neither. The TF101 one is also from a spare powerbrick I bought coz I originally thought the charger was the issue as well. It's just a very feeble charger and cable, again...

This power connection is also a lot better fit for the dock power connector. I always felt like the one that came with my prime was going to fall out of the dock.
I have had the same issue. I bought the TF-101 for my daughter, and the first cable had the insulation sliding off near the connector after about a week. I saw that my daughter would rest the tablet on the connector at awkward angles, so I lectured her about being more careful and bought two more cables. When she went through those in a few months, I bought 5 extra cables. I know she is being more careful with them now, because they still look new when they stop charging. One of the cables I bought never worked. We are now on the last one of the batch, so I just bought 12 more.
It hasn't gone unnoticed that I am financially rewarding Asus for producing a shoddy product. We call that "the invisible hand of the market", right?
Hey Gang,
I just wanted to post a little FYI notice about wireless chargers.
I've seen people being sold 'deals' which include the LG Wireless Charger WORTH £60 and some thinking that this is a good deal.
The G3 is compatible with ANY QI compliant wireless charger and these start from £10. The LG charger is deffo NOT worth £60.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_pg...words=wireless+charger&ie=UTF8&qid=1403693818
Really worth picking up a couple of these to dot around the house and office.
Is wireless charging really worth it? The charger itself still has to be plugged in. From your experience is it really all that more convenient?
Its a bit more convenient because you have to deal with short and tangldd cords (if u have a lot plugged into a power strip persay)
Doesn't really matter. If ppl want to use em, great. If they don't, IDC. Lol.

Thank you for this info.
But sadly I'll need to get a new LG G3 backplate in order for it to work. :/
I've just tried to use the wireless charger that I bought from the play store for my nexus 5 and that doesn't work at all, and also the magnet on the charger seems to activate the circle cover feature.
I bought the following one:
http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/221422967001?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
And it does not work. It detects the device being placed over it (LED turns on) but the G3 ignores it. Disappointed!
I got a Nokia DT-910 from Amazon £35 and works a treat with my G3.
Tried my phone on a friends £15 QI pad and it did charge slowly and the phone got very hot!

Hmm, I looked up the one I bought, the description is very similar, but it fails to work properly. Must have different electronics in it or something. I'll be interested to see what that second one is like, looks just the right angle for me.
I tried another one in my office, and that seems to work. Strangely, all that happened was the red charging light came on, as the other one turned the screen on and beeped every few seconds with a little animation saying it was wirelessly charging. Even if it does charge, its way to annoying.
Think we should use this thread to list working and problematic chargers? There's another thread with people having the same issue I found. I hope bad ones are few and far between, but might be useful to have a list.

If your working at a desk, they come in really handy. For one, it is a nice dedicated place to put your phone. If you pick up your phone lots of times a day and walk around with it, not having a cable is a godsend. The added charging function is just a great extra.
While it is significantly slower than a direct cable, if you have several ( I have 4: office desk, car, bedside table, media room) you find the cable becomes almost redundant.
One thing to note is that they can't keep up with heavy phone useage. When I'm in the car for instance, usually I have tethering, 4g and Bluetooth on, as well as navigation and streaming radio. I need a cable for that.
Yes, it is true Qi Charging is very slow compared to wall charger.
Has anyone seems any Qi charger going over 1A?
Bought a Chotech t511 qi charger , from Amazon, first of all tried it powering from the pc usb port.....no go ..same as some people have put here...would see the g3 and vice versa , start charging then drop out repeatedly ....then i tried it using the mains plug ..no problems works well...doesn't seem to slow at charging either.....

Nope, the WPC specification (current version 1.1.2) for QI low power is 5watts
No 1A? Thats a shame. It would take at least 5hours to charge G3 then.

I got the second one today, a few things to note:
It's seems to have issues charging from a PC / Laptop USB, probably something to do with the voltage. You need to have it landscape or it complains about it not being center of the hotspot. Thirdly I can't keep my spigen ultra hybrid case on, but I kind of expected that. You also don't get a mains plug which I found very annoying as this will only work from the mains.
The problem in most cases is not the charger itself, is the current of the plug o USB port you use to power the charger.
You need a 1.5-2A plug or 3.0 USB to make most of them work properly.

I've been looking for a charger that attaches to the side dock on the Z2. I bought one on EBay very cheap but the charging from seems to connect then disconnect all the time. I guess that's what I get for buying a cheap unit. Is there a good one that will charge the Z2 properly? I'm sure the flap to the micro usb is going to come off sooner or later so I'd rather use the magnetic one.
I too am looking for this. What eBay one did you buy? Don't want to accidentally buy a cheap one..

It fits very snugly over the charging port, so if you use case this cable might not go well with it.

I've heard that, I got a free app called timely and it works great, with smart connect it automatically goes into silent + opens timely when I dock.
Word of warning with magnetic chargers, don't be stupid like me and turn the charger the other way around to see if it connects better, you will end up shorting something inside your phone and you will have to RMA your device

I have a magnetic charging cable and did this drunkly one night, woke up to find the phone turned off and SUPER HOT. Like almost burning point, freaking out I quickly removed the cable and tried turning it on but it wouldn't power up.
After 2 minutes of having a mild heart-attack I used my USB charging cable and connected it once it cooled down and within a minute it powered back up and started charging. After a few minutes of doing this I booted up the phone and the battery was on 1%
Won't be doing that again haha :silly:

The same happened to me but after when i attempted to charge via the USB from PC or magnetic charging points the phone kept going into an odd loop of trying to charge itself and failing, i had to restore my TA and relock my phone and RMA it, will get a new one in a few days and i won't ever be doing that stupidness again

Trust me you can
Dock clock is my second favorite bedside clock and the one that I use(my favorite is Motorola's but it only works on their stock ROMS-they probably dropped it from their newer phones/firmwares as they did with everything else they did better then everyone else).

Mine does that when putting it the correct way without every putting it the wrong way. It also does the start/stop charging like the OP, hopefully he doesn't have the same problem as me.

upon close inspection, the charging pins on the magnetic charging port are different in size to prevent plugging it backwards.
for those of you who were able to plug it in backwards, is the magnetic charger a sony accessory? or aftermarket?
I bought the magnector x and holy moly does it charge fast...and the connection is solid and it snaps in place with ease...magnet very strong...only problem is it doesn't work with my roxfit gel shell case even though it has the cutout for the magnetic port...so either I stick with using my cheap Chinese made magnetic charger that doesn't always make a solid connection and charges rather slow but works with my case or buy the case-mate barely there case which is the only other case I can see that would work with the magnector x...

Since I bought my V10 I've noticed when I plug ANY charger into it, the cable is pretty loose in the port and moves quite a bit. Doesn't seem to effect anything but it's definitely not what I'm use to. Is this the same as everyone else or should the cable be snug in the port with very little or no movement?
Anyone?

Mine is definitely a little loose when I use 3rd part chargers, not so much with the stock charger. Like yours, mine doesn't effect the charging etc.

Hmm. Ok thanks for the reply. It's surprisingly loose for a new device.

Its odd though. It will wiggle back and forth but it wont unplug as easily as I'd think. Right now it's nothing I'm concerned with, if It starts losing connection I'll send it back for another I guess.
Mine wiggles back and forth also. I noticed it right away too.

My h-900 att also wiggled but doesn't fall out.
I've noticed that many times when I first plug it in to charge it won't go into fast charging. Unplug and try again and it works.
This is with both stock and third party quickcharge 2.0 capable cord and hub (anker and aukey, I believe).

Mine as well. Didn't notice till I read this, thanks @mikeyinid, now I have something else to complain about.

I've yet to notice much of it, I do use the Galaxy S4 stock charger cable, which doesn't do much wiggling, but if you do notice the stock V10 cable is a bit thicker on the port part. Not sure if it makes a difference (IE: placebo effect) that it fits more snug, but it could be something.
I was just going to post about quick charging. Btw. My port and charging cable are not loose. Stiff as a brick.
Fat charging does not seem to come on until 20% or so. I was charging at 9 % and it said I had almost 2 hours to go. I was immediately trying to find quick charge option, to see if it was on, but the phone didn't have one.
Then I watched a Seinfeld episode for 22 minutes.
Phone is at 65% and says 25 minutes until full charge. So I don't think it charges at lower percentages. Also my Samsung charger did not quick charge this, but I tired that too at 9%
It's a variable rate, as you get higher in battery percentage it lowers the volts or amps or whatever it is they use.

Yup loose but stays in. That threw me off also hopefully not an issue for us down the road
Yea. Seems like a snug fit but is definitely wobbly. Coming from the S6/Note5 I'm not use to it.
I'm using the AT&T version and so far, all the cables fit snug and do not wiggle. Anyone know of a software that works with the V10 to tell how fast (in mA) it is charging? I used to use "Galaxy Charging Current" with my Note2. Does not work on this phone.
I don't have any issues with charging cables being loose regardless of whether or not the stock charger is being used. However, yesterday my phone (I've only owned it about 2 weeks) died completely and every time I tried to start charging it my V10 would automatically turn on and say to charge it to at least 5% before powering on then it would die. I left it on my bedside table last night unplugged (about 10 hours) and tried again to charge it again this morning. It seems fine right now but time will tell.
Anybody else having this issue or similar ones?

I use an app called ampere
No issue like that over here. I would take that phone back if you purchased from a store.
My wife's does this and will even plug will slip right out. This is with factory wire. My phone holds that same wire in place. But I have an issue with one of my anker wires falling out. Very strange
