are there any android apps that can save data to files then copy to folder or sd card? for example, I want to take some notes and save to txt files in notepad and save to sd card.
I found almost none of android apps can save.
any suggestion? can any list some apps can save data ?
Why not just cloud ur notes. They r much safer that way. Especially incase something goes wrong with ur sdcard

how? I can't even find where the data stored in the phone storage. the app simply save a line of data to a sticky note inside it, can never take it out. this means it permanently store in the app and I can only view the data inside that specific app. that is not good.
What kind of data r u referring to

Hello guyss, today when I was browsing through my sd card I saw a folder named LOST.DIR and its consuming space of around 2GB... And it has more than 500 files in it..
So can any one tell me if this is an important/system folder and would it be safe deleting the whole folder!!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It is a folder of damaged files found during file system checks. If it is that big you are not treating your phone right.
The main tip is that you have to properly unmount/eject your phone from your computer before unplugging the USB cable.
Also but not as likely is that the phone should be properly shutdown not doing stuff like just pulling the battery. *Just stating this since some people do that.
Deleting it however, is fine. As said, all files in there are corrupt.

Ok quick question. On my sd card is a folder called "android". Inside is a folder called data and inside here looks like app data. My question is can i delete this folder cas it takes up 6gb.
Reason im asking is before on old rom i had moved all apps to sd card but after new rom i installed all apps to phone mem instead. So now not sure if this folder is from now or if its all my old app data from before. Unmount of sd card and my apps still work which makes me beleive its ok to delete but thought id ask u gurus first before i cause major problems.

Some applications store data in there, for example the Amazon appstore caches all your APKs there, I believe Google Maps' cache is there, etc. In *general*, it's fine to delete it but just be advised you may actually lose some data/settings you don't know about. If you're cool running all your apps with the SD card unmounted, I don't see why it would cause you any major grief.
Well basically yeah figured that. Now if i delete it and i lost sum app data cant i just use tibu and restore it ?? That way i get of the junk...???

I doubt it, I don't think TiBu backs up the stuff on the SDCARD, but I could be wrong about that. I've only used it one or twice
Any input from anyone else before i try this ? The whole idea is to try and clean some space off of my already small sscard. Just didnt think i had 6gb worth of apps and thinking it came from before when i moved everything to sdcard. thats why im asking the question in my OP.

You could always duplicate the folder on your pc, delete it entirely from your sd, and see what happens. Run it for a few days, and try out all of the apps you regularly use. If all hell breaks loose, you could just put it back on your sd and delete portions more selectively.

Please report back as I'm interested in this as well
Worked great. Copied folder to my pc then deleted it off my sd card. Restarted phone and ultimatly it made a new android folder. All apps still work. Freed a bunch of space. Foind out Basically that folder contains all the data from games and any apps that may need "downloaded content". So dont delete it unless you feel like downloading all this data over again.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
I'm glad it worked out.
I'm curious. Considering it re-downloads data, is the size of the new folder considerably smaller?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Well for me yes cas i think i had app files somehow from an earlier rom. Im not saying you will too im just talking about my situation so id be careful just in case.

OK guys! Now don't hate me. I know this has probably been asked many times before. So don't hate me, just looking for help. I download a lot of my music from the app called " mp3 music downloader". My question is " all my songs are being put into my USB storage not my external SD card. I have a 32 gig SD card that I want all my music to download too. Well one is how do I move all my music files from my USB to SD storage? and 2 how do I set it up that whenever I download music it automatically goes on my external SD card? Thank you to anyone that is willing to help a newbie.

I believe in the USB settings you must select, "mass storage mode" when connected
When you plug your note into your computer- if you run windows autoplay should recognise 2 seperate forms of storage. Usueally drive," I: " is your external SD
You can open both and simply recognise the difference between the two and your computer will recognise the amount of storage on both there is. So it should be easy to identify your external SD
For your sake, if your transferring music or anything for that matter organize it on your computer into folders- although generally the note recognizes the entire card with or without orginization; I just prefer not to mix my music with my backups in the same place
If you have any further questions feel free to PM me!

Wait nvm there's an easier way. Go to the ssettings of the app and change the directory to your external SD
From your phone download an app called astro file manager
Fine where your music is, cut and paste it to your external SD
What I described above is for the transfer of files through a computer but you can use your phone! Ignore my first post

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I did want to know how to do this from the phone only. I also went into setting under my music app mp3 music downloaded. There is no selection. Probably a ****ty app. But works great. I will try astro file manager. But does this mean every time I download a song I will basically have to do a copy and paste deal?

Well I checked the music app I use. Under settings there's no selection for where the music fies are downloaded. It automatically puts it in usb storage. I'm going to have to try another music app. Thanks for the help. But I did move all the files to the external SD card. Using Astro file manager. I'd like using this music app because it has the american billboard chart I can just pick the songs rather than typing and thinking of the song or searching.

I use that app and Your right there's no way to change the file location. Once a month I just do a cut and paste to my SD card. Its the only solution I've found.

If u compress files on ur sdcard such as ebooks , videos ...etc, that should help increase the storage space on the sdcard, right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
if you zip them up then the files are unexecutable until extracted which defeats the purpose of compression.

Its not going to increase the space no.
What it will do is decrease the space the files use but you will lijely have to uncompess them to use them.
E.g
You have a 8GB sdcard, dosnt matter what you do it will still store 8GB of data.
But if your 1GB video is compressed to 700MB you will go from 7GB to 7.3GB free space

Good, that's what I wanted to know. I'm just looking to makethe files smaller in size. I don't mind the extra steps, just as long as I can fit more in the closet. I have a lot of data stored on my sdcard and don't want to get rid of files just yet, so I figured I compress them.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
If they truly are useless files, just zip them up!

Most videos, images and such does not shrink during compress. They are already compressed in their native file format.

Hello, I'm sorry this topic is ready posted, but I can't find what my friend is having problem with. She has an Xperia U and she can't take pictures because it says that the SD card is full, she doesn't have a lot of apps or pictures though. She restored it to the factory setting a month ago and now the same problem. This is an image if her setting menu, please help and thanks.

In addition when she deleted audio, apps and pictures the storage didn't decrease.

Ask your friend to backup all important stuff in the internal storage and format it. Format via the phone not the pc.

How to format via the phone? She already restored it to the factory setting from the phone. And how can she backup all the pictures and videos? Transfered them to a PC?

Yes, transfer to a pc. Format the INTERNAL STORAGE not FACTORY RESET. See the clear internal storage button in the above screenshot? Click it after backing up.

1. Clearing the internal storage does not clear stuff like messages and contacts
2. It will only boot like new if you do a factory reset too

Do full backup with PC Companion.
Some apps save data in SD card like backup % restore (the one that come with the phone) so this will be lost.
You can see with PC what is on SD card and copy things that are inportant.

Well she can fry and delete files, when connecting to PC or with the file manager she has on the phone.
What android version is it, Ginger Bread??
connect to pc and just delete all the unwanted file from the internal memory only. What big deal? If you still need the file, just backup it. I believe all the file must be from whatapps media folder, check that folder.
back up the pics videos or something else she needs, then format the SD card.
Backup all your files on the sd card and format it
copy all the internal storage to a folder on your pc. then right click that folder and properties and see if it actually is 3.8gb
