Flashed KDDI now can't go back!! - Motorola Photon 4G

I tried to set my photon up for GSM while i used a nexus s 4g... now i didn't know how SLOW the nexus was compared to the photon so now i'm trying to make the photon my primary again. I flashed the KDDI radio but never even got it to work with any of my sim cards (never got any phone service) but it always recognized the different carriers i tried out. Now i tried to SBF back to stock to retain my service but that was a no go and i tried RSD'n 3 times -__- now i'm not sure what to try out

im not getting any error.. i'm able to sbf its just the radio is sticking to the kddi one. I'm using 2.3.4

Have you tried factory reset from the stock recovery? When you get to the screen with the triangle and the Android guy, hit vol up and down and a menu will pop up. Factory reset from there and re flash the sbf

there is no sbf for kddi.

As I've learned, custom ROMs don't traditionally come with radios so, flashing them (meaning the custom ROMs) won't affect whatever radio is currently on the device - you have to do it manually to upgrade/downgrade if that's the intention.

Where can i find the sv1 198_7 radio from peetrs

Yoi should post in that thread. More information would also be helful such as rooted or not etc.

You'd have to have the stock SBF file to flash back to stock. I think Yay had it in one of his threads.
rooted, unlocked, and running homebase 2.1 with the 4.3 update when it started...now im on yay's newest .sbf update....still no change...i dont know how to do a hard reset without being able to access the settings menu on the phone...it doesnt even load to the home screen...just stays "contacting network"...i do have a signal..

What recovery have you got now if you've flashed the latest sbf? Clockwork or stock?
If stock follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267740

SBF has not been working for myself and many other xda members... how can you use sbf to solve the problem if it won't work??? Has anyone successfully used it on the Photon? I am familiar with SBFing, but not on the photon... I know that it is the same, but it could be faulty sbf files... anyone have any tips?
The same problem
I have the same problem. I use my Photon in Russia with gsm sim card. At first everything was fine, the phone was looking Sprint's network for a long time, then gave an error that "can not be activated", and loaded on (works fine). But now, always looking for the network. And do nothing. Wipe and flashing other roms do not help.
Any ideas?

did you relock the bootloader in fastboot or by flashing the sbf file?
What file are you using to relock the bootloader via fastboot? The lock file is an sbf and has to been done via RSD.

I figured out hot to get over contacting network... just power and vol down and select Boot-Android (no BP) this will boot you up with no modem, so activation fails, select airplane mode, restart.
When it restarts it will say that the handsfree activation cannot be done with airplane mode on, just hit ok and move on.
When you get into the homescreen just turn off airplane mode. so everything is on now. the last things i need are the settings to get this working with 3g now, because i can get voice and 4g to work.
If 3g doesn't authentificate you cannot update your profile, therefor no 3g data and if you start a profile update you will get into the same loop of Contacting Network...
Also in RSD Lite my phone has a nice field that says:
Phone Type: Engineering (0000000000000000000000000000).. check the attachement

that's not the issue. the issues is that it isn't authentication with the 3g, 4g works, voice works.
I need to make it authentificate with the network so i can update the profile and PRL. My PRL is 51079.
Can anyone post the 51082 prl. I want to see if that does anything.

[Q] Safe to spf 2.3.4 stock gingerbread over unlocked and rommed gb?

Hello, I'm in quite the pickle and my head is spinning at this point. A few days ago I received a brand new Atrix from Motorola with 2.3.4 preinstalled. I unlocked and rooted it as well as installed tenfar's recovery and a a rom by the name of aura(de-blurred). After installing aura I noticed that my wifi no longer worked. I reflashed the rom and still it didn't work. I completely wiped everything and started over, still nothing. After countless efforts I tried installing the blurred version of aura in hopes that it would solve my problem. This was to no avail. Now I have no idea what happened after that, but somewhere along the line tenfar's recovery quit working. I get stuck at the motorola logo with the "unlocked" in the top left corner. I have no idea what to do now. I can't go into recovery which in turn means I can't install any new roms. The only option I can think of is to load a pudding abf of gingerbread. Am I safe in doing so? Are there other options? I have yet to find a real answer to this question so if anyone could possibly point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. I'm so overwhelmed with how much information is out there I just don't know what to do. Thank you in advance for the help.
I'm also on ATT
If you're running 2.3.4 you can use a 2.3.4 SBF - just do NOT attempt to flash a 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 Froyo SBF - you WILL hard brick.
Will flashing a 2.3.4 sbf completely overwrite everything back to stock 2.3.4? At this point I just want an unlocked and rooted gingerbread. No roms or anything!

If you want to erase and stay on the same fw then all you need to do us a factory reset.
If you want to unlock, then use the IHOP (AKA Pudding) method found in the Dev forum...

I've tried a factory reset and that did not solve the wifi problem. Also, if I install pudding on top of an already unlocked and rooted device will that cause conflicting errors?

If you are unlocked and it says "unlocked" during bootup, then you don't need to unlock it again. It's permanently unlocked.
Not sure about what's going on with your wifi. Have you tried resetting your router, or is happening with all wifi areas?...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
It is happening with all wifi areas.
I also wanted to try the pudding sbf in hopes that it would fix the recovery. I may not need it anymore, but it's a nice feature to have just in case things really take a turn for the worse.
For your WiFi issue. Reset your WiFi router, and 'Forget' all networks on your Atrix. Then go through the paces of setting it all back up again on the Atrix once your home Router has been reset.
You can flash the pudding 2.3.4 sbf.
its not reccomended tho .. try out the fruitcakes first..
Sent from my CM860
I don't have access to ANY recovery methods though. Tenfar's recovery refuses to boot and leaves me with the motorola logo and "unlocked" in the top left corner. Is there any known reason for this?
Can you enter fastboot?
If so you flash in that.
You can even download the rom manager recovery and flash it via fastboot too see if that recovery will let you do what you gotta do.

2.3.4 SBF is fine.... its not recommended to flash anything prior to 2.3.4 - as it results in hard bricking.
I shall try it via fastboot. Thank you for all of the help everyone. I appreciate all the input.
Everything works! Oh happy day!

Failed to boot 2 temporary solution (will loose 4G)

Update:
there is a good solution by peetr_ located @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145
no need to flash full SBF.
Earlier post (July 2012)
*************************************************************************
this method is obsolete now.
but it was the only way at that point in time.
Use it on your own rick.
it worked for me to get back my photon 4G after locked OTA 2.3.5 update
it uses Electrify sbf. Electify is similar to photon with no 4G (Carrier is US Cellular - may not work with Sprint)
I am not in US so not able to check.
the method I used to clear Failed to boot 2 error on photon 4g:
be warned that you may loose 4G. this is ELECTRIFY SBF
downloaded the Electrify sbf form here
use RSDLite 5.5 to flash this sbf into the phone. in the final stages, it will show failed. but don't worry
it will work. try to switch the phone on. some times it will not boot.
wait for some time and it will boot slowly.
perform a factory reset from settings or by using android recovery
it is easy to root with photon-torpedo.tar
root help is available here
Update pls visit

Those reboots are modem panics, because of no radio.
Or you can try to install mofish rom with bootstrap and try to fastboot flash only boot.img first, or I can give you sbf with boot and recovery.
Factory reset?

Ok so I was finally able to get PC back, flashed radio SBF (Radio & Gps fixed) - saw something about modules for 4g and sprint im taking it? I currently do not have any calling, mms, etc priveledges. I did reroot, added bootstrap, doing nandroid backup as we speak. I guess only left to do is get this mopho back up and running - completely!

[HELP] mopho can't connect to network

From memory, I will try to recall exactly what steps I have taken to reach this point.
1. I started off fine from 198_7 locked
2. still fine, unlocked and on joker's cm10
3. I decided to go back to locked for 4g. then factory reset from the cm10 settings
4. from my mac, I flashed stock recovery and sbf the nopudding4u
5. after reboot, I got error "Failed to boot 4 -- Starting fastboot" or something like that.
6. I stupidly followed this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797787
but now I believe I was a person on 2.3.4 and should have steered clear of that guide. hindsight....
7. after reboot, I got error "Failed to boot 1 -- Starting fastboot" also something like that.
8. few hours later I realized I could use RSD because without pressing any buttons, the "Failed to boot 1" started RSD mode and I tried
to use 198_7 and it failed.
9. I then felt I had to use the 2.3.5 sv2 update and tried to find an sbf for it. and found this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145
10. upon reboot, I cannot seem to connect to any network other than wifi.
looking at *#*#4636#*#* i get "unknown" under network type.
in blue, that is my problem, thanks for reading. I keep seeing threads with similar issues with no straight forward answer and solution, which is why I am now writing a new thread.
thanks again, please help

You probably are in the same boat as I am. Flashing the APPROPRIATE modules for the photon's radios is the key to fixing this problem. Basically two kinds pre and post 2.3.5 sv2 pre being something of the sort of 198_7. figure out which one you need and either flash the modules or flash a rom

Wanna try being as thorough as I was describing my situation in the OP? Can't really help without knowing your current status. Should start from the point you photon was last working.
Let's see it was working then I tried to see if I could get free internet. So I put in this code hmm can't recall (*#*#3646#*#*#)? I think but it took me to my network section and I changed a network to gmail and ever since it has never connected.:banghead:

[Q] 98.72.165 update 4G issues

I did the .165 update 2 weeks ago and since then i have not had 4g in an area i always have before and my fiance with same carrier has a strong 4G signal. I was on 1x data for a few days but managed to get 3g back with a sim card and few resets...phone works fine other than that.
installed no apps recently such as battery saver etc.
I've tried fastbooting back with rsd to 9.8.2O-72_VZW-16 build.
tried a fresh fastboot to .165
Tried wiping system cache in recovery.
global networks set to cmda/lte
tried cdma/lte/evdo and a few others.
Tried flashing cm10.2 rom with safestrap
safemode still only 3G.
I replaced sim card.
hard reset and factory reset from recovery mode.
Im at a loss im not sure what else to try. I cant get a replacement although im eligable for upgrade but im grandfathered into an unlimited data package that they want to take away if i do that.
I believe its a corrupted radio file issue but im not sure. I assumed rsd would fix that.
I was on phone with verizon 8 hours over 3 days and finally the guy there recommended me to just use fastboot files. He was pretty cool.
Motorola doesnt want to talk to me at all and blame verizon for there update.
I was hoping someone could recommend anything else to try. I hate not having 4G. Spoiled i guess. So I decided to ask the real experts and the most helpful community XDA. Thanks in advance.

U can call your provider and they may push you a new prl. Have u tried powering down. Remove sim. Power back on wait for no sim to show. Power off. Put sim back in and then power back on. If that doesn't work then u can get a new sim from from carrier and that should fix your Perl update
