[Q] How to recover deleted pictures on internal sd card - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the resurrection remix rom (Jelly Bean) on my sgs2. By accident I formatted my INTERNAL SD CARD (phone memory), while I thought it was y EXTERNAL card. All my holiday pictures are gone. Stupid, I know, but happened without being aware of it. I know there are several programs to retrieve them back, and I've found some. However I can only select to scan a hard drive, whilst my pc says my phone is a "portable device". the program does not show "portable devices" only hard drives.
I remember when I was still on Gingerbread and I connected my phone to my PC it always showed as (indeed) a mass storage hard drive.
Can anyone tell me how I can let my PC recognize my phone as a hard drive ?
Thank you for all your prompt replies

sd card is being used as mass storage - sd card empty now!

guys, big issue here
On my wife's phone, she tried to take a picture and all of the sudden she got an error "sd card is being used as mass storage". now she cannot locate any of her files on the internal storage. as a matter of fact she doesn't have sd card. I checked under settings > storage and all I see is usb storage avaiable & used is at 11.50 gb.
also all backups are gone
can anyone help?
That happens when the phone is connected to your PC, if the PC is using it then you can't see it on your phone.
1. Make sure you aren't connected to your PC via USB.
2. Reboot the phone.
3. If still no joy then try a factory reset (there are probably other ways to fix this, but this is the simplest and noob friendliest way)

Plug in the phone, go to settings > Wireless and network > USB Utilities > Hit Connect storage to PC.
Your storage will mount as a mass storage device.
Or Settings > applications > development > Enable USB Debugging, this will mean the phone always connects in mass storage mode rather than MTP (kies) mode.
thank you. It worked

[Q] Unable to get SGS3 Easy UMS / mass storage options working

I need some pointers from members of this forum who can help me regarding the issue. I have tried the SGS3 Easy UMS app and several other unix codes to actually mount my sdcard as a usb mass storage(to copy large media files over) to no avail. I followed this forum page, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 but still cudnt get it to work. When I clicked the UMS Mode button, everything seemed fine, but when i select Mount Card button(with the phone disconnected from the computer) its states "Could not mount card:[1]"
Qn: 1) Am I doing it right with clicking the UMS Mode button followed by Mount Card button with the phone disconnected from my comp as I do it?
2) I can only see MTP and PTP options in the USB computer connections page when I connect my phone to my comp. Should I be expecting something else?
3) I tried several other workarounds like entering some unix codes to mount the ext sdcard as a usb mass storage drive as found in this thread....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800935
Still it will not work. They mentioned entering the codes in the terminal emulator. Is this the same terminal emulator found in my SGS3 rooted with CM10 nightly? Or must it be entered on my PC runnning Windows 7(I dont believe so)
4) I also did some more thorough research and got mixed reviews on getting the usb mass storage thingy working. Some actually referred it as a problem with kernels used with CM10. I am on stock kernel btw. And some went on commenting that the USB mass storage options have been added to the latest nightly build of CM10 (which is NOWHERE to be found)
** If there is any kind, smart and willing-to-share-knowledge souls out there, need your help please. Thanks!

[Q] PC not recognizing internal and external SD card for Nook

I have a nook that had 1.4.1 on it before I put the Nook Zergy root and patch on, about a year ago. The other day I installed cm-7-TEAM-B-BETA1-signed and gapps, and then cm-10-20130123-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim and gapps. Everything seems to be going well except the PC does not see the internal nook sd card (My Nook) or the external SD card. There was also a broken driver in the device manager that said Barnes and Noble Nook, so I reinstalled the Android Composite ABD Interface driver in the device manager, but nothing seems to get the PC to see the nook or sd cards that I put in. The computer drive list shows Removable Disk (E) and Removable Disk (F) and when they are clicked it prompts to insert a disk. My computer is Windows 7. Somewhere along the way I must have done something wrong. It doesn't say My Nook or show the sd card. I have tried reformatting the external SD card.
Is there a way to get the PC to recognize the nook - have it show up on the PC when connected via usb? Will I have to revert back to stock or should I try reflashing the Rom I have, or installing a new Rom? I forgot to make a backup of my 1.4.1 version before I started custom Roms. oops. :silly: :crying:
Are you getting prompt on the tablet notification bar? It should give a message like 'touch to transfer files to computer ' or something like that.
Also try disabling USB debugging mode in settings > developer options
And if you're considering flashing new ROM, go to cm10, no need to revert to stock to fix USB issue.
Edit - missed that you were already on cm10. Usb works fine for me though on cm10
Your Tablet might be set to work as MTP device. Included is a picture of what i looks like in my Windows file explorer. You may need to disconnect and reconnect, close and re-open the file explorer for it to show up.
Thank You satan and asawi - It's working now. Unchecking the developer options and going into the storage options to mount the usb fixed it. I also reformatted the card after I saw that root card would work, but not the one I had in the nook. Everything is working, yay! You saved me from a lot of frustration trying to figure it out.

UMS on Android 4.3 gives "Please insert disk into removable disk"

Hello,
When I updated my S3 to 4.3 from 4.1.2, it was terrible. It was very laggy, my screen didn't show when pressing the Power Button or the Home Button, and I thought that resetting to factory might fix it. Well, I was so desperate to make my phone work better that I didn't realize that all my files were on the internal storage, I don't have an SD Card. So, I've lost everything.
Now, I'm trying to recover some photos, but I can't connect my phone as USB mass storage to use a recovery soft on Windows 8. I rooted my phone, installed USB Mass Storage Enabler app, but it shows two drives (H: and I, but I can't access those. It gives me "Please insert a disk into Removable Drive (LETTER"
Please help, I did everything I found on forums, but still nothing. Those files might be lost, but now I have another battle.. Making my phone available in Mass Storage.
And by the way, it still works terrible with 4.3. Hate it so much!
Have you installed USB drivers ???
Have you read the stickied storage/ recovery thread ??

Unfortunately I think USB Mass Storage in the way it is implemented in 4.x for the moment can only share the external SD, the internal one is never visible.
IMHO the only approach to recover "something" is to get an external microSD larger than the internal partition and create a block copy (with dd under adb in CWM/Philz recovery for instance) of the entire "internal SD" partition - that one will be an EXT4 (Linux) partition) and there is a very, very small chance that you might recover some stuff from it (I doubt but who knows).
Yes, i have the Samsung USB Driver for mobile phone (1.5.29.0)
No, didn't read the storage/recovery thread.
Oh well...
Such error happens if transfer breaks unexpectedly. Think what file did you send lastly and delete it, it should fix your issue.
If you can't remember or it did not, formatting your external sd card will fix it for sure.

Ah, you're talking about internal one.
Well, then your magic program doesn't work properly. Perhaps you could try boeffla kernel and it's UMS.
