Dear All,
I just came to notice that the serial number in the battery compartment of my SGS3 (GT-I9300) is different from that of the Settings>About Device>Status>Serial number. How come? Also when I tried to enter the serial number taken from Settings >About Device>Status>Serial number and typed it into firmware upgrade and initialization of Kies, it works, but when I input the one from the battery compartment of my SGS3, it says "Please check the serial number and enter it again". My first guess is that somehow the mobile I have is some kind of cheat or something (I bought it in China but is not for the Chinese market, it is kind of smuggled to China). May be the chinese just paste the sticker in the battery compartment or whatever. Any thoughts on it?
Thanks
If your phone was branded by any carrier than it could have two different serial numbers. One encoded in efs partition (showed in about phone status menu) and it has 11 chars. Second one is Samsung's device factory service number and it has 16 chars (hex format).
Both are correct. First is used to initialize your phone as you said. You can also register your phone in Samsung service center with this one.
If you like you can use some tools (Network Signal Info or similar) which will show you the second one which should be the same as number under battery.
Don't worry. I suppose that serial number changing is hard to do operation. All you need is correct IMEI number which should be the same as this on phone's box.

I have a very similar issue. I am with T-Mobile USA, so I have a slightly different variant of the SGS3. I am running a custom ROM. Now when I flash a factory stock ROM, my serial Number matches that which is under my battery. When I flash cyanogen mod 10 based Roms it changes. The factory Stock Is 11 digits and the new one is only 8 digits. I guess my question is why are my numbers 8 and 11 digits? Is the because of my carrier?

Yesterday, I did uprom to PDAViet Transfomer 1.0. I have used this rom for about 1 hours, then I did down to PDAViet 4.0.0.5b-cross, HR 2 times, imediately. then used 2 hours, HR 1 more time and changed my Radio to 2.69.21 After that I found that my IMEI changed, from xxxx xxxx xxxx xxx 00 to xxxx xxxx xxxx xxx 01
Did anyone get this problem????
No panic. The IMEI didn't change.
What you see is IMEISV, an extended IMEI with software version number. It has 17 decimal digits(14 digits plus 1 check digit plus 2 SVN digit). 14 most significant digits of the IMEISV without the SVN is the originial IMEI. The last 2 digit identifying the revision of the software installed on the phone.
For example, the IMEISV code 35703600-CCCCC-D-EE
35703600 identifies that it is HTC prophet model
CCCCC is the serial sequence of the model, uniquely identifying a unit of this model
D the Luhn check digit of the previous 14 digit IMEI
EE the 'software version number'
The SVN allows the manufacturer to identify different software versions of a given type approved mobile. The SVN is a separate field from the IMEI, although it is associated with the IMEI, and when the network requests the IMEI from the mobile, the SVN (if present) is also sent towards the network.
The biggest SVN I've seen for the prophet is 07. Has anyone got a bigger one?
whoa... u learn something new everyday....

can i use some tools to change this IMEI?
i find it too.
change imei
After dialing *#06#, I get a number which is quite different from the number on the back of the phone. So seems it has changed after so many upgrades...
This phone worked well, after upgrades, in Germany and India but it does not seem to work in UK. I have tried Orange and Virgin operators but not able to make any calls.
Can someone suggest if I need to change IMEI. I tried updating radio rom to 2.69.xx.xx..but that didnt help.

try the wst (wizard service tool) ,it works mericals
What is the reason?
my htc touch pro IMEI changed after update ROM(official ROM"like as: RUU_Raphael_HTC_ITA_5.05.408.1_R2_Radio_Signed_Raphael_52.58.25.30_1.11.25.01_Ship.exe")
and then my IMEI changed 17 bits--REMOVED--
when i install any software, the system to prompt the follow information:
"the program is from an unknown publisher.you should install it only if you trust its publisher.do you want to continue?"
I think this is just occasional,so i update ROM again and again.
but the IMEI is "--REMOVED--" all the same!
You probably don't want to post you imei online (maybe that's a fake #; if that's the case, you should say so).
Your IMEI didnt change =/
Maybe for some reason the soft way to see your IMEI is corrupted, but look under your battery, that IMEI is still the same, and that's what matters because if you warranty your phone for some reason IMEI is how they track it. IMEI is basically a serial number for the provider.
^ not true. It is possible to change your IMEI number with certain software. When a call is made the IMEI # is recorded in the provider's billing software. With Rogers for example, this is the case, albeit few reps know how to find this and fewer still care what your IMEI is or isn't.
Not saying whether the OP's IMEI did/didn't change, but the sticker under the battery only shows the IMEI when the phone shipped.
Just like a sticker on the back of a computer may say "windows xp" while its OS is actually "vista"
When you upgrade to a new version (Core) it will add one number to your IMEI only in form. It is still electronically recognized as the same IMEI, so don't worry. what you will find is that the number is the same, but has now an additional digit or 2 in it. This is just like a revision number & will not affect your services at all. This happened when we old Tilt users went from 6.0 to 6.1 & will likely happen again going 6.1 to 6.5 official.
Do you get your IMIE by dialing *#06# ?
yes mate
Imei changed
Hi,
i work for a mobile provider an I changed yesterday my ROM and today I got an Security check on my work and my IMEI changed also, and that was a little problem. Because they have to check my IMEI number, to look that I have the right mobile with me. The problem is, that Security had only the last 4 numbers, but I found out the new added two digit numbers
Cheers
Hmmm...That's what I said above. It is the ROM/Revision number & it gets added to the IMEI. For anything truly querying the IMEI, it is fine. But it seems your setup is querrying the Registry version of the IMEI.
Anytime you upgrade roms, Usually OEM roms, this happens. It started with the first touch & the Kaiser.

If you ran a ROM that had been XIP'd for any reason (such as to make some software that looks to see the OS version to run), this will modify how windows see's the IMEI, however the radio will read it for what it actually is.
This is interesting... when I warranty return my phones to ATT, they ask me to do the *#06# and have me read off the IMEI... Could they tell if I've changed roms via the numbers I read off?
Could it possibly be a secret way to bust us all?

No, no suits, black helicopters and vans unless you start cloning, there are your previous IMEI's on ATT system, they want to validate the problem handset as you have the ability to remove your sim and call them from a working handset, your account is bound to the sim, then there is always the accounts with multiple active sims, they just need the right one for the RMA.

There is a serial number under the battery as well as the phone IMEI.
Look under the battery and look on the box. The barcode under the IMEI number has some numbers under it, that is your device serial number.
Thanks, under the battery there it says S/N and then there is a number.. is it safe to assume that this is the serial number?
Note that this is different to the number on the barcode on the box
Yes, S/N stands for serial number

Could I just ask how many digits (decimal or hexadecimal) the serial number is...?
(I won't bother trying to explain why I'm wondering)
Isn't the IMEI-no. the serial number?

Serial number not vaild...?
I'm trying to do this in Kies and am having no luck. I've tried the following:
IMEI + Model Name
S/N + Model Name
IMEI + 2 digit IMMEISV + Model Name
I've entered pretty much every number I can find on the box. When I enter the S/N and Model Name (SGH-i777) I get a weird character message
What am I missing here?

"wierd" as 00195ef068dfae -this is what my phone shows for S/N under Settings/About. But this is another baseband/imei stuff problem.
And the actuall SN (under the battery) is ofc not showing! And the box only shows IMEI + Barcode + color
I don't know if this is right, true or works, but from a IMEI blacklist checking site i discovered that the the imei contains the following :
TAC: XXXXXX FAC: XX SNR: 580206 CD: 3, so if someone can confirm that these SNR: digits are actually the SN of phone than you solve it. Cheers mate.
Same as me..not same as in the back of the phone afer flash stock firm from sammy
I have both an SGS2 and a GT10.1 and the IMEI SV numbers are different, does it notify the network that one is Tablet only (no voice) or is it something else?
Thanks in advance.
I think it's kind of a ID. Like cars have. Cops can use the number to see if the phone hast been stolen and stuff like that

Each phone is manufacture with a unique IMEI number. It its used to identify that phone when it registers on a network. It can be used by the police to associated the device with a phone account, for example.
I think, however, that there ways to spoof that number on devices

Guys
That's the IMEI number. I asked about the IMEI SV number.

I read somewhere that it is just a software version. I have a Galaxy Note II (AT&T) and my IMEISV shows 03. Some people have said that it is a glitch from Samsung signifying that you have made unauthorized changes (ROM Mods) when you have not. One post said it had to do with his sd card containing something that is triggering this change. He said that he took out his sd card and the modified went away. I took out my sd card and it still shows modified. I then took out both the sim and sd card rebooted and it still said modified.
My phone is rooted. I did that just after I received it. When I got the phone (before rooting) the IMEISV showed 01, but just after I got the phone, my phone did a lot of updates from Samsung and AT&T. It may have changed then. I wish I had remembered to check it then we would know for sure. It stands at 03 now after rooting.
Bottom line, I am inclined to believe it is just a software version because the update upgraded me from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. Maybe so of the more tech savy dudes can set us straight.
Regards to all
The version of the software that was used to 'write' the IMEI to the device.
I have been told your software can be checked by phoning *#1234#

Dumb question, I've no signal locked a phone and the imei sv on the boot loader says 02, any ROM , custom or not reads it as 01. I'm guessing that this is what's preventing my sim from registering the network. I don't want a way or how to do it. Just a confirmation in along the right lines of thinking,
Because no shop, no one on XDA knows wtf is wrong lol. That's the only difference I noticed and this post would really make sense, ALL methods used to flash the modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin would cause an SV 01. Which is the open source fastboot supplied to us, not the official engineering one from the factory.

On my working Lenovo P2 the bootloader says 02, but 01 is what's being displayed in the stock ROM. I can call, text and use the mobile internet. Has to be something else.
(I have another P2 which is broken and I'm trying to fix the signal)
It is the difference of number between IMEI 1 and IMEI 2
Hi guys,
After flashing Resurrection Remix and back to stock ICS I noticed my serial number is saying 'unknown' Now I have read about some similar topics about this, but I have got something else.
I decided to flash the ICS bootloader. After that my serial was 0009ca6038****. After that I checked with 'abd devices' and it came back with: 304D9ca6038****.
Note: These two are almost the same except for the first 4 characters.
Then I looked at the sticker under the battery and I saw s/n: RF1C50*****. So that's completely different.
Now, which one should be correct? Does your sticker match your serial?
And last but not least: how to solve this?
I am running a CM9 nighlty build on my S2 and the serial number in Settings -> About -> Status is also "unknown"
The first time i realized this was as i read your post.
I have no problems with my phone, so I think the unknown serial number is not important.
I have a RN10pro. When I type *#06#. It says serial number is unknown. How to fix this?
