Thinking of flashing cm9 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How is the ram usage compared to other roms based on samsungs stock firmware? Will I get better ram usage?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

CM9 doesn't have the memory-leak issues as most JB roms do. I won't promise anything, but you'll most likely getter a more fluid experience Remember that CM9 is missing some features from the Samsung roms, such as AllShare and TV-Out

Ram usage is better. But battery life is not good when compared to stock.

Why is battery life not as good? Any reason for that? As for the Samsung stuff, I don't use them much so I'm okay with that..

Battery life has been very similar to stock for me with cm9. It's even better since I flashed siyah kernel.

probably about half the time. Always when at home but only when I have coverage at work.
I turn it off most of my work day because poor signal cripples the internet connection (not a ROM issue, its just the lack of a decent access point in range. Other ROMS/Phones and PCs also suffer)

Anyone?

Anyone knows if its able to work?

I Tried CM9, i have a question about text size
I installed CM9, it looks very fast, i also love the default mail app has changed to a gmail-like app, which i prefer better (white background is always better).
However i was very disappointed when i used the phone - the dialer does not look so good, but can be replaced so not a big problem, but when calling or receiving a call, the caller ID text is very small, and the caller picture is too big. it looks like the dialer is not compatible with s3 screen size. Also the notification toggles are also too small and without text. I could not find a way to change their size. In general there are many places where the text is too small. Selecting large font under accessibility does not make things better.
has anyone encountered such a problem? is this how it should look?
In the meanwhile i am with criskelo 6 but i'd rather be on AOSP like CM9.
Thanks!

Of course custom kernels offer undervolting.. which greatly improves battery. Slows the phone down though.. and that is if its stable.

Undervolting doesn't actually slow down the phone, the CPU still runs at the same speeds just on a lower voltage. I have undervolted my s3 by -75mv per step and it is still very stable and runs the same as before, and now my.battery life is amazing

Well...
Dude, i think i should not answer it as you are asking personally from one person....
But heres my opinion->
I tested about 4 Kernels.
And it was strange to see that none was there with 0 problems. Everyone had some or other problem.
My mission was overclocking.
No kernel worked well except Siyah.
So i will only refer Siyah.
About versions, i would choose the latest as it may have more features and less bugs.
So just go for latest.

S3 becoming of old age?

hi all
I have had my S3 for just under a year and recently have been growing really frustrated of its performance. It feels slow at time (which is understandable) and it freezes and completely crashes on me randomly through out the day.
I have been running the _null rom for a very long time and find this an amazing experience. I have just today moved over to chaos final v2 rom and that seems just as smooth. I am still however having these crashes!
Any body know what it could be? I must admit my memory is virtually full externally and I have about a cool 3GB internally. This should not make a difference to the system crashes though!
All ideas and responses would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Please read "unusual freeze" thread in general.
This should be in q&a though.

Its not relevant. If you're unfamiliar with the s3 specifically, fyi "generic advice" is not applicable here. Faults and quirks of the s3 are unique to this device so really only owners or developers of the s3 will be able to help through experience.

Great, so you'll be fully versed in the update 7 kernel source code for the S3 that introduced the MOVINAND fix to address the faulty wear levelling code in the 0xf1 VTU00M eMMC memory? And that the issues the OP has mentioned are conducive with the side effects that this fix has on the device?

I don't even game or watch videos on it I literally just check the internet every now and then yet still I suffer 10% drops for Just using it for 5 or 10 mins at a time.

I tried CM11 Nightlies and NeatRom (based on SlimKat). Both are great at battery. Decided to stick with NeatRom because it seems more stable. I'm not using any custom kernel.
The thread states do not ask which rom or kernel is the best. This was a question about which rom has given people decent battery life, not which has the best features or tweaks etc which is obviously all subjective. So to recap, I am actually asking the opposite, not which rom is best, but which has lasting power. Features or no features.
