so why many people use siyah kernel or similar ones?

Overclocking. But unless your a ridiculously heavy user... u don't need too on this quad core beast

Of course custom kernels offer undervolting.. which greatly improves battery. Slows the phone down though.. and that is if its stable.

Undervolting doesn't actually slow down the phone, the CPU still runs at the same speeds just on a lower voltage. I have undervolted my s3 by -75mv per step and it is still very stable and runs the same as before, and now my.battery life is amazing

Often cause of being.able.to modify different parts, and the audio tweaks on siyah are really good

Well...
Dude, i think i should not answer it as you are asking personally from one person....
But heres my opinion->
I tested about 4 Kernels.
And it was strange to see that none was there with 0 problems. Everyone had some or other problem.
My mission was overclocking.
No kernel worked well except Siyah.
So i will only refer Siyah.
About versions, i would choose the latest as it may have more features and less bugs.
So just go for latest.

Jaskaran probably just answered your question but I use siyah v 1.5 beta 4,.so the latest one pretty much. The stock settings of the kernel are good but if.youre looking to tweak and don'tknow what you're doing there's a good.guide in the 2ND post of the official thread

Best Kernel to use?

Hello there, I'm using a S3 with stock rom which is modified (crt, brightness and sound levels,) . I wanted to also flash a kernel to improve usability and battery, but nothing extremely conservative. Could someone recommend me a popular and stable one?
Thanks in advance, if you think I should try a different kernel for a different experience, let me know
Thanks

CyanogenMod 10.1

Hello everyone. So basically i have a question. Is anyone facing lags on cm 10.1 new nightlies? O have a lot of time with this rom, and i must say that 10.0 was much more smoother (at least for me)
On 10.1 even the homepage is choppy... I'm running Pegasusq overclocked 1.7 GHz with deadline scheduler... any advice you would give me?
Best regards

I felt the latest PA ROM was quite laggy too...
Use Siyah kernel and I have a few tips for settings:
--Over clock to 1.5GHz
--use lulzactiveq
--turn gentle fair sleepers off
--set touch boost to 1000Mhz (or more if you want)
--turn android logger off
I also undervolt all frequencies by 75mv.... I do a lot of PC tweaking and you'd be surprised how much that little amount can reduce cpu temps.
Hope it helps. Did for me.

It isn't really noticeably different to stock settings tbh.. (I.e. still not a patch on Samsung). Give it a go and see how you get on. It definitely makes the ROM smoother.

I have read comments from several devs that claim that this makes no difference and that those saying it does are experiencing the placebo effect
Addition: in case you are experiencing scrolling lag in any apps, make sure you have force GPU rendering ticked in developer options!! Absolute necessity in any JellyBean ROM.

slow lock-unlock response

Hey.. I have a samsung galaxy sIII international.. i have a custom rom installed (cyanogenmod 10.1) latest nightly...running on siyah kernel 1.8.9
So since i installed cyanogenmod when i click the power button the device dosn't lock immediately it takes like 1.5 second to lock...same as the unlock..everything else on this rom is fully working and great.. i just want to solve that problem :/
Please help me and thanks
Please Don't be like "search in xda you will find the answer" because i did that
thanks..
I have experienced something similar, but only in unlock screen, my solution was change to a more aggressive governor like Luztactiveq

Sadly, yes, aggressive governor means less battery life...
But as I have 2 additional batteries, so it doesn't concern me...

Are you using the slim version of the rom?
Also you could try using a different kernel (cubed has better quadrant scores for me), and use something like SetCPU to overclock
What do you mean. The DNA is smooth as silk even on fully stock.

I have no clue what you are doing to get lag. There is no lag for recent apps for me.

I don't have a nexus 4 with me atm but I literally just held a glalaxy nexus in my left hand and my DNA in my right hand and both of them were 100% flawless with swiping in the recent apps dialog.

- badass governor is a preference like interactive,on demand etc? i remember that viper rom does not have app for cpu setting. You use Setcpu or something similar?
- lagfix = https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=it ?
Thx again

Im completely stock. Using SGS Touchscreen Booster i get 0 lag swiping anything on Sense. Download it, set Time Duration To Register Touch to 0 and Minimum motion to 1 or 2. Night and day difference from default touchscreen settings. Competitive FPS gamer on Android. My people swear by it.

Try UKB 1.3.0...smoother than most I think..and I tried many, including viper. Just plain works, maybe not fancy but 96K views for that thread pretty much tells the story. I had issues with viper, perhaps of my own making but issues none the less..

[Q] Are there any kernels for kitkat roms?

Just wondering if there are any kernels that I can flash for kitkat roms. The rom I'm on atm has cpu oc abilitys but I was also wanting the gpu oced abit as well. I tried using kernel tuner but only the adreno series are only supported. Also if I have to flash to a jb rom for any kernel that supports gpu oc or has it pre oc then I will do that as well. But if any kitkat kernels are out there that I can flash then I'd rather do that. Thanks for any help.
