[Q] How to move game data to external SD? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I move data files of gameloft games to external SD? Without root?
For newer gameloft games like Asphalt7, the location seems to be sdcard/Android/obb/GameName. I want to change it to something like
sdcard/external_sdAndroid/obb/GameName.
I know that by rooting, I can use apps like Directory Bind, GL2SD, etc to do this. But I don't want to root my phone just yet, as I want the warranty to run over.
I don't mind decompiling the APKs individually to get the job done. But when I decompiled the APK of one such game using apktool/apkmanager, the set of XMLs that I got didn't have the cache location (I searched for "sdcard" in all the XMLs using Notepad++ but couldn't find anything).
I know of a "Gameloft Patcher" that can do something like this, but it is for older gameloft games, where the cache location is
sdcard/gameloft/games.
I would like to specify the cache location myself, as it varies individually for each game. That's why I thought of decompiling the APKs, but couldn't get it to work. Kindly share your thoughts on this.

No one help?????????????? I have same ideas with you I don't want root my phone

attach your phone to the computer using USB, then copy the files. I'm not sure if you can do this without root, but it's worth a try

I ended up rooting my phone, and have already sent the rooted phone once for service under warranty. They didn't seem to notice that it's rooted.
I use Foldermount now to move game data to external sd.

[Q] SD card

Hello, i have a question about the sd card of my x10. Its almost full with apps i dont use anymore and other stuf. I want go to a other rom but can i delete all thinks from my sd card? So what can I delete and what not.
(ps. sorry if my english is bad.)
I will ask the same question....
So many files and dont now ho to delete safely
If a folder reffers to an app u've uninstalled then its safe to delete it. Game files will be redownloaded but might be best to backup your save game files if you are likely to install it again. Most things you can delete worst is you'll lose app settings/game progress. Just back everything up just in case.

Yes, if you want to go to a new ROM, and not save any apps, its alright to even format it..
(but you probably want to save the photos you've taken, as well as the music stored on it. or am i wrong?)

[Q] Newbie to Android on Samsung Ace, help required.

Hello!
I am a newbie to Android just migrated from a Symbian. I own a Samsung Ace, and also plan buying an Xperia Play.
When installing an application in symbian the phone asks if we want to save it in the memory card or the internal memory. How do we do this in Android phones and specifically (if it is different for every phone) in Ace and Play?
For example I installed talking tom cat 2 in Ace, the moment I opened it asked my permission to install another package, only once that was installed I was able to use the application. Then after sometime I uninstalled the app. using task manager. But the question is how do I get rid of the extra package and where has it been installed any ways.
There is no place where this information is available for a newbie.
Android at first seems a little confusing.
Also what is this ROM thing, tried to search it but didn't find anything?
Please reply soon.
Thanks.
Everything, go to settings>applications>manage applications. This should be uniform across android devices.
Normally downloaded data goes to sdcard/Android/data. Check in dis directory.

Like mentioned in the prev post it might either be in /sdcard/android/data or in the appropriate folder names under /sdcard
In your case, i think a folder named "talking tom" might be created under /sdcard
Your mishandled/broken files would be in /sdcard/LOST.DIR

installed data goes to your system/data, what the hell are you talking about?! You mean if I take out my sd all apps mysteriously disappear?

If the app is installed in SD card then for sure it wont work when u remove the SD card.
When you uninstall an app the folders and files particular to that app in /system/data would get removed automatically and the files n folders on those in SD card needs to be removed manually.
Correct me if im wrong, Thanks.
PS: Im not in for any argument and happy to correct myself

ur actually correct. any leftover on sdcard wont be remove by default when uninstalling particular app that created them. eg many games will download its data when running it for the first time, and that data will be placed on sdcard. furthermore that data wouldnt be deleted when we uninstall that particular game that creating it, it need to be removed/deleted manually. i think same goes in op case, that "talking tom" app download its data when on first run and put it in sdcard.
Okay, I see the logic now. OP mentioned installing an additional package and that's probably not an app but just data, am I correct? Sorry for getting too heated up

You mean normally the applications we install like facebook, twitter, talking tom cat 2, angry birds etc. etc. go directly to the SD-Card ?????
I thought, in Androids, it goes to the internal memory.
Because a friend of mine said that the only reason people still opt for iphones instead of android is this; that you can't enjoy the use of an SD-Card.

Okay.
But my question is : Can I somehow install the application (like tom cat) directly in the Sd-Card in the first place. I am not worried about removing my card, because I have a 32 gb one.

Hello!
Thanks for the reply.
But I don't think this is the ROM they are talking about on this website. The one you mentioned is Hardware. What they are discussing seems to be some type of software.
It's called read-only memory. It's like your xp in your computer, or windows 7, or Linux.
Edit: some applications cannot be installed into the sd card but with darktremor a2sd script it can make most apps migrate a portion of its space to the ext partition of the sd card. Do a search on google about a2sd. Also, installed data normally goes to /data/app which is internal storage. Certain apps may move their data to the .asec folder in the sd.

[Q] Pulling an App

Could anyone tell me how I can take an app from my old MT4G and put it on my Amaze?
Apparently the app is no longer available on the Market and I don't like any of the other options.
Thanks for any help.
Can you not back up your app using Titanium Backup, move your backup to your Amaze and use titanium to restore that one app? I'm new to Android but seems like an idea..
Or you can use root explorer, browse to your system/data partition and look for the app_name.apk file if you downloaded it or system/apps if the app came with the phone and look for the same file and copy that file to your memory card and install it on your new device normally or by placing it in the same folder you took it it out from on the old phone, though you'll need root privileges to do that on the new device.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. I should have thought of that before.
Thanks. I'll give it a try now. Lol. I actually paid for TB I might as well use it.

Depending if you're backing up the app+data or just the app, if it's just the app you won't need root access, but app+data will require root.

It's just the app, which if anyone is wondering is "Craigslist Notification".
One of the best free CL apps out there.
And I would know because I downloaded 6 different ones on the Amaze and didn't like ANY of them.
The ones with pictures had no prices, the one with prices had no pictures.
The ones that had both, had no "save" feature...so on and so forth.
So I still have the app on my old MT4G and just wanted to pull it off there and install it on the Amaze.
For some reason the app is no longer on the Market.
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm about to attempt to move the app now.
Will report back.
or if you have adb setup you can use:
Code:
adb pull /system/app/[I][COLOR="Red"]nameofapp[/COLOR][/I].apk
\
then you will find it in your computers user directory

So I'm back from the beach and burnt to a crisp BUT I got the app on my Amaze now!!! WOOT!!!!
Used Root Browser Lite on the MT4G to copy the apk from /data/app to /sdcard.
Then moved that apk on to my desktop.
Plugged in the Amaze and dropped it on the phone then used Astro File Manager to browse to the apk and install it.
Everything is working fine now and I have a copy of the apk on my computer if anything should ever happen.
Thanks a lot for all the help guys. I really really appreciate.
I can't live without this app. I LOVE getting deals on Craigslist.
And Dark, am I allowed to post the apk up?
I have the free version, so it's not a paid app.
Once it's a free app, there's nothing preventing you from posting it bro.

[Q] Directory Of Saved Games

PLEASE DELETE, IVE REPOSTED IN CORRECT FORUM
Apologies if this is the wrong thread:
I have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 which ive rooted and have the script that sets external sd card as internal memory and vice versa. Its running android 4.0.4 and Whats happening is my games are completely dissapearing and upon opening either one of them, it has to redownload all the game data. Its doing it all the time and its come to the point were im going to flatten it and install a custom rom.
What i need to know is where the directory is for save game files so i can back them up. If i use titanium backup, upon restore non of my games work so that option is out of the window. So the plan is
1, Back up the game save directories,
2, wipe it,
3,install a new os,
4. restore the save game files
5, redownload the games.
If this doesnt resolve the issue im thinking perhaps its the SD card.
I know in the microsoft world save game files are normally in your profiles Application data directory or the my documents folder. Does android have a similar set up?
Also, can you recommend a stable and clean rom for this device. Needs to have init.d support so android 4.1.2.
Would really appreciate any help anyone can provide
The most interesting files are under data/data/ and android/data or android/obb.
I can recommend you Cyanogenmod, just google it

[Q] Recover lost app data due to accidental app deinstallation

Hi there,
I'm new here, so it's my first post and I hope I'm in the right place to ask here
Yesterday my girlfriend accidently deinstalled one of her favorite apps from her SGS3 (via Play Store), it's a game and all its game data is stored internally as it seems. No backup or anything else has been made before
She just reinstalled the app from the Play Store and opened it just once, but did not do anything else yet.
I've already searched the forum and googled around a lot, but did not get any appropriate answer to my question:
Is there any way to recover the lost app data to make her happy again?
I've already tried several apps from the Play Store like: Dumpster, Undelete, DiskDigger, Hexamob Recovery but nothing worked or even could access the internal storage or was just able to maybe recover lost pictures or videos.
Device info:
I've rooted her SGS3 I9300 and recently flashed it with CM 10.2 nightly (playing around with the phone while waiting to buy myself a new one )
I really hope there is someone out there who has an idea or just gives me an appropriate answer.
I'm not a native speaker so my apologies for every mistake I maybe made
Thanks in advance!

you also said the phone is rooted. enable root option to the file explorer and then you will be able to copy/cut/paste the data on the system. my preference es file explorer. menu> root explorer> mount R/W> set permissions to RW. then you will be good to go.

Maybe I was not clear enough. I tried your suggestion and searched for 'smurf' to find any data, now I got several files and folders containing 'smurf'.
I think the data was deteled while the deinstallation of the app, am I right?
Hard to answer this, but in which files will the app data be stored and if it is deleted, how can I get it back?
I found a solution, she did do a backup without telling me, 2 months ago...stupid little... my bad or better: her bad.
Thanks for your help so far!
Thread can be closed now...
Just FYI, without that backup, there would have been nothing you could have done.

Now that's what I wanted to know
I already thought that there might be no way to get the data back, due to the storage structure / filesystem and even to the fact that she reinstalled the app and started it (main data has maybe been written at that moment, so the old data blocks have been overwritten or so)
Really thanks!
