I’m definitely a noob when it comes to this, but I am on HBOOT 1.5 and unlocked my phone via the HTCDev method. But I was able to flash back to the stock recovery, install the OTA update, then flash back to my custom recovery, and flash Superuser again to retain root. Everything worked fine for me.
1. Made a Nandroid backup (just in case)
2. Download and rename the zip file above to PG86IMG.zip, then put it on the root of your SD card
3. Boot into HBoot (this should automatically kick off the installing of the stock recovery zip file)
4. Reboot phone and let it load normally
5. Install OTA update
6. If all goes according to plan and it updates, I remove the PG86IMG.zip off of my SD card
7. Plug in phone and flash twrp through fastboot (follow this guide here)
8. Flash su again to retain root
9. Probably make a Nandroid backup at this point just for fun
10. Reboot my phone and use it like normal with the lastest OTA update.

It should work through fastboot with the recovery.img as well I think. One note that I forgot to mention is that I'm on the Stock ROM as well (as in, after I originally unlocked my phone, all I did was flash a custom recovery ... I've never flashed a custom ROM).
I have hboot 1.5 to and also not working never installed a custom ROM just custom recovery (was only interested in getting titanium backup working). Guess the above steps only work for 1.4 or less?
Just tried your method and still a no go... I'm also on stock rom... After I flash the stock recovery I do the update n it actually starts to install but after the green bar gets a quarter of the way I get the red triangle with the ! In it.... That has happens no matter Wut method I use.... Don't know Wut else to do...

I have hboot 1.5 (and s-on) as well and it worked for me. I was pretty much in the same boat as you with only flashing a custom recovery. Not sure what your problem is. Maybe you could ask a question in the Q&A section and see if you can get some responses.

Glad you got it working Luda. Did you relock your phone to get it to work, or just flash the stock kernel?
And as a note for others, I'm not sure what method timezone12 did, but for me, I did not relock my phone at any point. In review, I flashed the stock recovery, installed the update, then flashed my custom recovery and superuser again. Nothing was lost on my phone, I still have root on hboot 1.5 with s-on, and I have a working OTA update. One quick note that I wanted to mention is that I didn't use the stock recovery found in this thread (I used one from another thread on xda). This shouldn't matter, but I just wanted to make note of it. A lot of people are saying those in my situation need to relock their phone at some point, but I would respectfully disagree.
Well I'm not 100% sure it was cuz of the kernel but that's my guess. Wut I did was nandroid back to my stock backup I made right after I did the htcdev unlock thing then I flashed the stock recovery then did the update n all went well. So no need to relock and do the ruu thing that's going around these threads.

Okay, so let me start off by saying that I'm completely out of the Thunderbolt loop as of late so I have no clue what is going on.
I'm still running a rooted 2.2.1 and I'm trying to update my software to the most current software.
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband: 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r
Kernel: 2.6.32.21-g0606a3a
[email protected] #1
Build #: 1.70.605.0 CL343953 release-keys
Software #: 1.70.605.0
So basically, what in the hell do I need to do???
Flash the gingerbread radios, then choose a gingerbread ROM and flash that.
Run a backup of your setup along the way.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Is it absolutely necessary for me to flash the newer radios? Some places I'm looking say that I shouldn't and others, such as your comment, are telling me to do so.
Depends on the rom. Use the radio they suggest.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Reiterating the OP, latest software; hence initial guidance of gingerbread radios then pick a gingerbread ROM, backup and flash as appropriate.

You'll need the right RUU for your CID the only available RUU is for Europe so if you don't have the right RUU it won't simply flash
Just find a stock rooted deodexed ROM

p/s: newbie about android
Thanks.
hello I have been trying to root a HTC EVO 4G LTE
INFO of phone:
Mode number: EVO
Android version: 4.1.1
HTC Sense version: 4+
HTC SDK AP Level: 4.63
if anymore info is needed i will obtain it
I know that the problem is that the phone does not have the option to be on power mode only
The phone has not had anything changed on it.
I am also wondering if there is a way to flash the ROM, [Samsung has ODIN which lets you flash special ROMS to phone]
If anyone knows a way to get this phone rooted I would really appreciate it.:good:
Go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader by following the instructions.

After that, get S-off using moonshine method.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to flash just the radio if you have s-off.
fastboot flash radio radio.img
Although I believe that it is "safer" to flash the entire firmware in RUU mode though.

This Was My Question Exactly... We Don't Really Need All the Firmware and Software Enhancements Since Most Of Us Run ARHD Or Some Other AOSP Rom. I See the Unlocked HTC One Development Section Has a Radio Thread with Instructions and Etc But Not Our Beloved T-Mobile Child lol
I Did S-Off and Did the Bootloader Unlock Via HTC but Never Changed My CID to Use International RUU'S or Make Mine a Google Edition As On T-Mobile Those Modifications Don't Play Nice With Some Of Our High Speed Bands.
If Anyone Knows How to Extract and Apply the Radio Update Please Let Us Minions Know... Thanks In Advance
