[Q] Camera in JB AOKP (bajee11 and PieR) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I Just installed JB AOKP by bajee11 and PieR. To me, this is one of the best Roms I've tested so far. But there is just one Problem. No Camera App is installed. Maybe someone has the original Camera APP from the S2, so i can flash/install the app. I tried a few other Camera apps, but they were not quite good, or maybe I haven't found a good one yet.
Thx for your help.

in Jellybean, the camera app has been integrated into Gallery app as gallery.apk.

So how do you take pictures?
It's not only that the camera app is missing, there is no Activity capable of handling android.media.action.IMAGE_CAPTURE. So what you are saying sounds quite weird...
EDIT
Dirty flash of the rom worked for me (Thanks => goo.gl/IS0Y9)

@Jokesy
Yes, I have heard of that but it semms that its ddifferent with this ROM. There is no camera icon in the top right corner in gallery. So either there is no camera app included in this ROM or something went wrong with the installation. Is it possible to install the stock camera afterwards?

There are two ways:
1.
-Extract gallery2.apk somewhere.
-Using a root capable explorer e.g. root explorer or Solid Explorer, copy the extracted gallery2.apk to /system/app, set its permissions to rw-r-r
-exit the explorer and reboot phone
Or
2.
- Boot to CWM recovery
- format /system (under mounts and storage)
- flash ROM again
- flash Gapps
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- fix permissions (under Advanced)
- reboot phone.
Note:
#Option 2. will NOT touch your data and settings, so there's no need to back anything up.

no its a system app and cannot be installed like a normal apk file.
u have to push the gallery2.apk file to System/app folder of ur phone using root explorer/browser, then set permission to rw-r--r-- then reboot ur phone and the gallery2.apk gets installed and u will have ur camera back

Now i tried the first of your 2 ways. I copied the galery2.apk in the System/app folder and set the rights to "rw-r-r. Now i can see the camera icon in the top right corner but if i hit the icon galery immediately crashes und shuts down.
Any solution for that Problem? If not, i have to try Way number 2?
I always thought, that installing a rom over another rom is not recommended. I allways made a fullwipe to avoid complications.
I know its the same rom, but you wouldnt install a windows over another windows without formatting, would you?
But maybe its a different story with windows.

Taken picture quality AOKP app vs. original Samsung app from Rom v.4.0.4?
Hello,
I remember once having read, that the original Samsung Camera app is doing the best in picture quality. Is this still true or will the camera app in the AOKP rom will come up with the same result related to quality?
Thanks for clarification!

Question about Resurrection Remix ics v1.4[4.0.4] rom

I am looking to install the Resurrection Remix ics v1.4[4.0.4] rom onto my phone which is currently running stock LPQ 4.0.3 (it is also rooted). I am wandering if i install Resurrection Remix ics v1.4 do i also have to install the siyah kernel or will the rom already come with its own kernel? I also am wondering can i install the black theme for the rom right after i install the rom and the gapps or does the phone first have to rebot and does this theme work for 1.4 because the file name says black theme apps for 1.2?
The rom comes with own kernel, the siyah kernel is optionally, i personally didn't like the siyah kernel on Ressurection, becuse of the battery life and some few bugs....I highly recommend the thoravukk kernel...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574672
Install rom first, then gapps, reboot...let the device do its thing and then reboot into recovery again and install the black theme...
I say stick with the Stock Kernel

Hello, guys. I'm a newbie at this forum. Can you point me to some issues of RR 1.4?
1. I'm using RR 1.4 on my Galaxy S2. It is the great rom, but... Is it possible to set storage for camera to use? I used this feature on 1.0 to store my photos and videos on sdcard. But on 1.4 I haven't found appropriate setting in settings menu of the camera.
2. RR 1.4 doesn't install MMS.apk file during the flashing. There is no icon for SMS/MMS application in Apex Laucher dock. You need to install mms.apk file manually after flashing. Seems that it is an issue.
3. FmRadio and SoundRecorder applications are missed in applications list. I see them in /system/app folder but can't run. Also I can't install them manually.
Does anyone faced with the same problems?
I love this v1.4 all the features are great.
However i have a problem, i have backup all the contacts via titanium in v1.1 but i can restore them in v1.4. Please help : D

The most common reason for having issues like that is not following the instructions for flashing the ROM. It's harsh I know, but, flash it again - this time by the book and you'll have no problems. 1.4 works like a charm for me, Sound rec. and FmRadio are not included in this ROM and there is no option to choose storage on the camera apk.
Hi, but is there anyway to have rom boot with Galaxy S2

That's odd, maybe you can try clearing dalvik from recovery and fix permissions. If that doesn't fix the issue, and you can - reflash it and follow the instructions. Maybe it's a bug, but I don't have it so...

Yep, I have the boot animation.zip you can download from here
http://www.mediafire.com/?yypcbzvrzjzgfgk
using root explorer app, first remove the current bootanimation.zip which is in system/media, put it somewhere for safe keeping. Then replace it with the downloaded .zip. You will have to change the folder from R/O (read only) to R/W (read write) which is in the top right corner. Remember to remove the current boot animation.zip from the /media folder otherwise it won't work.

[FIX][SOLUTION] Copy/Paste Crash

Hi guys,
my phone started crashing when I copy things and I couldn't paste anymore. So I googled and found this fix but many people keep saying do "full wipe" or "factory reset" and still most people don't like wiping their phone. you DONT need factory reset !!
There are two fixes and both require root:
Does NOT work for JB !! only ICS 4.0.4
a) To be able to do this guide you MUST be rooted!!...............
1. boot recovery (CWM) > advanced > wipe dalvik cache
2. reboot phone > Root Explorer > delete /data/clipbord/* (Star or asertik "*" means everything inside)
3. reboot recovery again > advanved > fix permissions
4. reboot phone > it's fine
b) This also requires ROOT...
1. Root Explorer > delete /data/clipbord/* (Star or asertik "*" means everything inside)
2. Settings>Application Management>All(tab)>>Scroll down to>>TestService and clear its data
3. reboot phone > it's fine
Re-booting is a very important step please don't skip it !!
I got this from a different forum, I tried the first method and it worked for me and I hope this works for you all  Good luck !!
JB Users try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31128304
All credits go to Jkay for the JB fix, I just added it here to put the fixes in one place .

Help, CM10 Camera force close, I9100G

Hey folks,
since i flashed the first nightly of cm10 my camera gets a force close when i Try to start it. The error message says something about some gallery error.
I didn`t have this Problem with the unsupported beta of cm10. I`m now on the "yesterdays" kernel but still got no working camera.
Does anybody have an solution?
Thanks a lot.

Do the following:
Solution 1:
-boot to CWM recovery
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
-format /system (under mount and storage)
-flash CM10 nightly
-flash gapps
-fix permissions (under Advanced)
-reboot phone
**with the solution above, your kernel will be back to stick CM10 but your data will be intact**
If solution 1 doesn't work for you, then try the next solution.
Solution 2:
-from the zip of the "unsupported CM10 beta"
-extract gallery.apk from /system/apps
-using a root explorer/browser, replace browse to /system/apps on your phone and replace gallery.apk with the one you extracted earlier.
-change the permissions to rw-r-r (644)
-reboot to recovery
-wipe cache partition
-wipe dalvik cache
-fix permissions
-reboot phone
Let me know what happens
Copy gallery.apk from the zip of "unsupported

When i paste the gallery.apk to system/app the phone went imediatly to the cm boot animation for like 5 seconds.
Then i set the permissions, but i`m not shure if i was right. when i did "right click" on gallery.apk/ permissions a window opend with 3 rows and 3 collums where i can hit some permission settins. but i didn`T see any r-w permissions or something like that.

well to set permission
in the first row tick the first two boxes and leave the last one blank (thats what sets rw-)
in the second row tick the first box and leave other two blank (thats what sets r--)
in the third row also tick the first box then leave other two blank(thats what sets r--)
so the permission rw-r--r-- is set that way, try and see

[Q] Internal SDcard damaged? Gallery pictures going corrupt!

So... Im on a I9100GT running Cyanogenmod 10. But this problem occurs in stock ICS 4.0.3 also
Whenever i take a picture. It might show for an hour or so before going corrupt (completely grey) Or it might just be corrupt as soon as i take it.
Im guessing this is some kind of problem with my internal sdcard?
Ive searched the forum and found SIMILAR problems but im not sure if theyre exactly the same thing..
Tried formatting the sdcard via CWM and regular settings -> storage

Well i dont have my mUsb cable right now cause i gave it to my girlfriend.
BUT i used FTPserver and filezilla from my PC.
I can access all of the 3 pictures that i took earlier (Somehow theyre not corrupted yet)
But whenever i try to open/view the picture that IS corrupted and blank. It just takes ages at:
"150 Binary data connection... sending file /DCIM/Camera/IMG_20120925_173652.jpg
Then the connection times out > File transfer failed.
Also if i try to upload the "damaged" picture to Picasa it comes out as an invalid request
if i try to upload it to dropbox it will just stay at "waiting to upload" forever.
Then again if i upload a picture that luckily somehow HASNT got corrupted (got a few) it will upload normally.
Edit: If i open the blank photo and select "edit" it just says: "couldnt load photo"

i think this is serious. Can you try to put some pictures on your external SD and test again

Yes i think it seems pretty serious also :/ But i had no problems before. When the phone was relatively new.
I mean its fallen a few times from the table WITH a protective casing and theres been no visual damage.
But do you mean put files on my external (2gb) sd via PC? and see if they show up in the phone?
Cause i cant change the picture saving location from the camera app in CM10.. for some reason. No such option
Actually there is a switch for "Store location" but nothing happens if its either On or Off. no change. they all go to internal SD anyways.
edit: I put two pictures onto the external SD via Filezilla (copied over perfectly) One jpg. and one png. Both showing up in my Gallery in a folder created: "External_sd" perfectly!

the issue may be caused by CM10 because some users have lost many pictures already. It either corrupts or just disappears.

Alright. Trying something called "Pudding Camera"
Just sucks that it probably wont have the Jellybean feature to instantly view pictures from the gallery once you take them. If you know what i mean.
Cancel that... I tried Pudding Camera, and Camera360. Pudding Camera will crash after the splash screen (no error message)
And when i start Camera360. It will just say that it stopped working. And crashes before it even opens..
**it just got real...
edit: Instagram camera DOES work though... But im pretty sure the image will get corrupted also. Havent tried saving a picture.. (did take one though) but the app and camera does work
Okay! I got an app called LineCamera. The camera opens... things seem okay. But with save location selected: "Internal" i snap a picture... And BOOM "Photo not saved due to a problem with the memory" BUT when i try selecting the save location to EXTERNAL it works..... Just that the stock JELLYBEAN camera is so good.... :/
So.... anyone know if this is a damaged Sdcard problem? Or is it fixable by some software tinkering :/

I think you can try to repartition your device
Are there any tutorials on how to re-partion. And that requires a clean install right? (I dont mind to be honest) just asking.

follow the tutorial here. Yes you will lose everything on your internal storage, so back them up
So basically just flash that stock ROM with Odin but with "re-partion" CHECKED?

Sorry if i was a bit rude.
I know for device is not bricked, but i only want you to follow the repartition part of that tutorial. You need the correct .pit file for GT I9100.
You have to be very careful when flashing .pit file, because it's a process that must not fail.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah alright.
Well i wasn't quite sure where in the tutorial i was supposed to re-partion (Since there is no link to a PIT file? wasnt included in the recovery package either)
Only thing i did was installed that stock ROM just like any other ROM with odin, bootloader, pda, phone, csc, No Re-Partion checked.
Didnt flash the kernel file in PDA after either.
One thing i noticed is that my USB Storage(internal sd) in settings is now only showing up as 4.11GB, even though it should and use to be 11.
(I didnt even flash a PIT file though. Could it be that some earlier SD card format through CWM had done this? Made during CM10)
edit: Found a 16GB GS2 pit file online? Is this okay? They dont need to be specific?

[Q] Galaxy S2 camera not working

I was trying to disable the shutter and focus sound settings of my camera when I messed it up.
Device: Samsung galaxy s2
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-Jeboo_Kernel_v1.2a+..........
Service provider: Optus Australia
Okay! I hope that the above detail is sufficient now let me tell you what I did wrong.
I was successful in getting rid of the shutter sound and I was reading around to find a solution for disabling the focus sound too. Followed this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058850) to disable the camera focus sound and probably I have lost my camera.
1. I first copied the SamsungCamera.apk file to a my internal SD card folder (Using ES Fileexplorer).
2. I unzipped the newly copied folder using the same ES fileexplorer.
3. Entered the folder name raw and deleted the focus.ogg sound files.
4. Zipped it back together using the ES fileexplorer and named it as SamsungCamera.apk
5. Again back to system\app and deleted the factory SamsungCamera.apk file
6. Copied the edited SamsungCamera.apk to the system\app folder.
7. Tried to install the app -Unsuccesful
8. Camera is not working anymore:crying:
Please help!

That's easy -- just restore the original SamsungCamera.apk file, which you backed up before making any changes to it. You did back it up, right?

Yeah, I was expecting that... Here is the file I saved at some point from the stock 4.1.2:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2594409/SamsungCamera_Stock_4.1.2.apk
When you copy it to the /system/app folder (rename it to SamsungCamera.apk), make sure you set the right permissions (-rw-r--r--), and don't try installing it -- just reboot the phone.

Any idea how I can get rid of the focus beep? I got into trouble just trying to get rid of the annoying beeps.
The process what I followed to get rid of focus beep makes sense, but after I pack it together and replace it in the app folder it is not working!
Cheers!:good:
Glad it's working!

I use the camera mod from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2134452
It works great, and includes the option to turn off the sounds.

Hi, do you think you could please help me.I am having a bit of trouble installing this mod. I saved the zip to my sd, then i put my phone in recovery mode. Then i pressed "apply update from external storage" and chose the zip. This dosn't install it i just get an error. What am i doing wrong?
Edit: Don't worry i figured out what I did wrong i didn't have cwm recovery installed
Will this work for SII LTE SGH-I727R also?
I've been without a camera on my Rogers Samsung Galaxy SII LTE SGH-I727R for months now. It was working fine for a long time and one day just stopped working. I never dropped it and I always had it in a protective shell. Whenever I start the Camera app (or any app that uses the 8mp back camera) it just hangs up and then gives me a 'Unfortunately, Camera has stopped' error and crashes. The front camera still works in applications like Skype. Device is running Android 4.1.2
So far I've tried:
* 'Clear data' and 'Force stop' the Camera (v1.5) app in Applications. The cache is always 0.00 so I can't clear it.
* Software factory reset (several times, sometimes entering setup data, other times leaving it blank, sometimes connecting to wifi and trying to get an update etc)
* Recovery mode and Hardware factory reset
All produce the same error so I was wondering if I should try this camera rom? Will it work for the SGH-I727R?
Was also thinking about flashing it with Cyanogenmod 10.2, mostly to play with CM but also to see if that for some reason fixes it.

I don't get what you mean by almost normal.
What I mean is that it didn't work flawlessly, it froze from time to time, but most of the time it worked good.
