Hey I'm having trouble gaining S-OFF.
I have looked everywhere but no one seems to be able to give me a straight answer.
How do I get S-OFF with HBOOT 1.58?
Yes yes I know about the wire trick, but when I try to use this method with ControlBear it just fails after a second. I have the drivers installed.
Any help or info would be great, I cannot STAND Sense ROMs.

So, I've been doing some looking around and not finding anything directly answering this question. I'm reasonably sure it's true but I wanted to check an make sure.
With having HBOOT version 1.5, there is currently no way to get S-off, right? I unlocked my HBOOT 1.5 phone using HTC's official unlock, but of course this doesn't allow things like kernel flashing. I know with previous HBOOT versions, you can use Revolutionary to get S-Off for this and it's something they are working on. But as of right now, there is no way to get S-Off for HBOOT 1.5, yes?
Looks like someone just posted this same question right as I was.

No S-OFF with Hboot 1.5 but you are mistaken you can flash kernels. I will save you the trouble on searching:

You sir, are my hero. I don't know how I missed that.
I seem to be in an unusual state with my phone. I downgraded to hboot 1.4 with the software downgrade method, but I can't seem to get root or s-off now. I've tried revolutionary, and it says failed to get root (as I'd expect since I don't think it was made for 2.17) and I found and ran ControlBear, and it says I need root (I think ControlBear is for the wire s-off though). I can't seem to find any steps here though, and would appreciate any advice on where to go now. What step am I missing? I want to get root, and clockwork so I can install a custom rom or two.
Or would this belong in the Q&A thread?

you have to be htc unlocked with a stock rooted rom to run controlbear
But, I have hboot 1.4, would I be able to downgrade to 2.08?

Yes I think, when I followed unknownforce's guide to downgrade there was a step to run the 1.13 RUU.EXE ( version b4 2.08) and then use revolutionary...so the phone will have hboot 1.4 and software vertion 1.13....
Howdy,
I'm trying to get S-OFF on my Sprint Evo 3D so I can install this ROM. The documentation says that I need HBOOT 1.58 and S-OFF.
I was trying to following the directions from this thread here.
Originally, I had unlocked using the HTC Dev Unlock method, so I used the relock tool. After that my bootloader said "Relocked" and "Security Warning". I moved to the next step -- pseudo-bricking the phone by corrupting the HBOOT update process. However, nothing I do will get the phone to brick. I've tried about 10 different times (varying the wait time before I pull the power each time) and I never get it to brick. Here are all of my relevant settings and files that I'm using.
Current HBOOT banner: "Relocked" (Security Warning disappeared at some point)
HBOOT ver: 1.50
S-ON
RUU I'm using to corrupt HBOOT: 2.17 from here
If anyone can help me get this sorted out I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Why would you brick.the.phone? Just get unlocked + root and do the wiretrick by juopunotbear, takes 5 minutes.

I've got a guide here that can help you get a rooted and S-OFF configuration for a Sprint Evo 3D pretty easily.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot when I get back from class. Just to be clear, if I use this method will I eventually be able to end up on HBOOT 1.58 so that I can use ROMs with the 2.89 kernel? I have only just skimmed over your post before class so if that question is answered in there then nvm!
Once s-off, you can flash any hboot you want.
sudo passwd root
Worked like a champ! Thanks so much.
I know you are fairly new here, but as a future reference. It is common courtesy to hit the thank you button if somebody helps you. Ramjet's guide is the easist and quickest way for sprint users to gain s-off on the new ics firmware and hboot.
Ok, so i wanted to downgrade my hboot so i can get s-off using revolutionary's method.
I followed exactly the same steps listed on this website http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-downgrade-to-hboot-1-49-0007-on-htc-evo-3d-gsm/ (You might already know this guy) and it didn't went really good to be honest..
It didn't downgrade my hboot and atm my phone is Relocked and i have no clue how to unlock it as it was before. Because of that i can't exit out of bootloader nor go to recovery.
Looking forward to your suggestions (My device was rooted and unlocked before i did this and i had hboot 1.53.0007)
Thats actually flashmaniacs tool which doesnt downgrade 1.53 hboot. your only option is to do the wire trick. follow the steps on this thread:

Rumrunner should work.
Being s-on sucks, but you can still run custom ROMs. You just need to download the ROM's zip file to your pc, unzip it and fastboot flash the boot.img.
Someone might still have the necessary files for firewater s-off.
Rumrunner is the only method to S-off Hboot 2.10. You'll have to be S-off to downgrade via RUU to an older Android version. Might want to hit up the Rumrunner thread and make sure that you've got your computer set up properly to run it. Firewater has been discontinued and is no longer supported by its developers.
