Hi everybody.
I've read at a couple of places that the Hero does not include any sim / phonebook remote access profiles which means I cannot sync my contacts with my Parrot CK3100 car kit.
I'm wondering if anyone knows why HTC would have removed this profile from their build when it was working perfectly as part of the standard cupcake build.
And also whether it is likely that HTC will reinstate this profile through future updates?
Speculation or definite answers welcome!
I'm also having this problem, as well as getting the phone to automatically reconnect when the phone and handset find eachother. Any body any ideas?
Ask Google why they STILL haven't added a full BT stack. It's the same for both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic aswell. UNLESS you wander the way of the rooters ofcourse. Then you will be able to use all those nifty little tools only the rooters can use.
I think that Google is a little bit slow on this subject tbh. But then again I have no idea of what they prioritize either. Maybe they have a BT stack but they feel it has some serious security issues? ONLY Google knows. Well... a couple of XDA's hardcore hackers might know too... isn't Haykuro around somewhere?
I have rooted my phone (yesterday). Can anyone suggest any tools that may help with this? Appreciate any help anyone cab give!
no problems here
hello i have just got my hero and im still learning the in's and outs of the device as i have come from a WM device, but have loads of success so far.
I have a in car bluetooth system and i have no problems with connecting, and searching my sim card for contacts.
The problem i do have though is that it will not read my phone contacts just the sim.
Its not a big problem as i on a regular basis back up the phone memory to the sim anyway in case i have to switch phones.
Im not sure why you guys are having problems but im happy to help in anyway.
I haven't rooted my device as i see no reason to just yet its all stock, and runs like a dream.
I have a ford mondeo with the STD sony system in it if that helps, oh and it connects as soon as i get in the vehicle
I think I may have cracked this:
I stuck a random contact on my SIM card, the Parrot handsfree now finds all of the contacts on the phone, and automatically links to the phone when in proximity. Odd, but adding that contact seems to have unlocked remote sim access.
Give it a try!
same here ... added one contact onto my sim, then full access to contacts!
Works very well with the Land Rover Bluetooth PTI (designed by Nokia as it happens). Full contact list navigation on the stereo head unit.
I am having a similar issue with an in car BT head unit. I have a Pioneer DEH-P7100BT. I have had problems connecting the hero to this. It starts contacts download and stops at contact number 14 for some reason. I have tried to delete the 14th contact but still gets stuck at 14. I have all my contacts backed up on the sim as well.
It is also proving to be an issue automatically connecting to the head unit when I get into the car. I resolve that by switching the BT off and then on again, then it connects OK. Not ideal.
The wifey has an Iphone 3GS and that connects to the unit every single time. No connection issues at all.
The BT Audio option works a charm with both the Hero and the 3GS. I usually play Last FM and Imeem over 3G and stream via BT to the head unit, pretty cool over all, if only I could sort out the connection issues with the HERO.
I just got the hero a couple of days ago, and although I am loving it, I really cant stand the lag in absolutely everything. I am having problems even accepting calls sometimes as it realises I have just clicked the receive call button after 10 seconds or so.

Mine does it the opposite way - reads the phone memory and not the sim memory. It's taken me 2 days to complete changing the profiles of people so far as I couldn't figure out why active sync wasn't working.
i bought a sandisk 32g card off amazon to replace my 16g card with the aim of putting more music on it. perhaps foolishly i went from around 2g to 14g of music using media player to sync. although it appeared to work with all filed transfered im having some performance issues.
putting the 5mins it takes to build the library aside, ive noticed that i get choppiness and skipping in tracks. i tried a soft reset which cleared the problem but now im getting the same choppiness in coreplayer.
ive noticed in processes audio manager takes up 20m.
im going to try reverting back to 4g of music to see whether its a sd card issue, otherwise any advice? is it unrealistic to have that amount of music installed (sorry if thats obvious!)
im on a stock rom although i have cht 1.8 installed
tia
If you bought it from Komputerbay on Amazon, most of their 32Gb cards seem to be fakes or poor quality cards.
If you bought it from them, return it for a refund.
I'm looking into buying one on Amazon as well, but when I came across the nightmare stories I eased away from those guys.
what class is the card? class 2 is borderline for HD2 from what I have seen.
i had major problems when i shoved 30G of music to go on holiday, cut back since ive came home but there is a thread here with all the tweeks to make it work. I could leave mine searching all night and it still couldnt play anything.
Was from a company called qtech - I only bought from Amazon as heard about fakes on ebay! Class 2 card. Wasnt sealed though.
On my issues, I tried it again lunchtime and this evening - weird thing is everything seems to be working (music and video). I hadnt done anything to try and fix it, so not sure whats going on (i should have mentioned i was also streamling audio over bluetooth). Im going to keep it as it is to see whether it comes back.
I get the occasional glitch when playing music when something else is going on, but nothing major. Would appreciate others experience of size of audiomanger process so i can compare.
Ive read through many of audio posts here - i already have audio manager in start up. I havent tried the registry tweak (which seems sometimes to stop booting anyway). I also need to check whether I have the latest hotfix applied.
Some ebay sellers are beginning to sell their things on amazon now because of how amazon group things together. It is hard to tell which seller sells fake and which sells genuine. fake memory card is hard to detect unless you try saving things into all 32gb of space. Some fake card will only have 8 or 16gb of actual space...
It seems to have the right memory on it. Interestingly it started stuttering again in sense player this morning and occasionally stopping (suggests memory problem as i didnt do anything?). However, no problems in media player, so i guess its not the card. I did have a problem with one huge playlist which i have subsequently deleted, but doesnt seem to have helped. Official music player hotfix hasnt helped either. Guess i need to either switch player or lose some music...
Anyone found a used for NFC in the UK yet?
Is there any decent banking/payment apps for it or other cool stuff we can be using?
I see wireless credit cards as just another way to steal my money, and with things like this you don't have to mug me but just be in range and have the technology to steal it my details.
HaHa wave my phone around so the turds can grab my bank details .
Thats a good joke who thought it up trhe guys that sell cloned credit cards ??
jje
You can buy and program your own tags and use them to like... turn on wifi when you get home and stuff like that
I've never seen the NFC payment things in Manchester but other cities may have them, I dunno.

Sony Xperia owners can get those "Smart Tags" - they're NFC enabled, so I'm guessing that perhaps the app they use them with is available?
Edit: looks like it isn't (boo), but there's other ones in the Play store that let you store information on the tags and/or activate actions on the phone by touch the tag to the phone. Check out NFC Task Launcher or NFC Tag Writer & Reader for two examples.
By the way, I'd heard that the range of NFC is in millimetres - so it's going to be difficult for a scum-sucking con artist to scrape your phone. Plus the eBanking apps I've seen discussed all have low limits on "unverified" transactions and anything of note needs you to enter a PIN code first - to authorise it.

Actually most credit cards can be read from a distance. They have portable card scanners that can pull your information off of a card inside of your wallet. I remember reading about a year ago that the issue is credit card companies are not supposed to store any information on your card besides the account number, but they often do to "ease" transactions on their end.

If it was possible you'd hear about with the billions of cards knocking about, where all it takes with wireless cards is follow someone in a crowd with some kind of scanner, because if it is technically possible them someone's gonna figure it out, and all because people want to save a few seconds putting their card in the machine.
Bus stops have NFC for adverts, I imagine that apps will be advertised like this too.
Soon oyster cards in London will be on your phone. But you really do have to be pushed up against these things, its very short range.
These things won't become mainstream unless they're secure.
Thieving people just by walking past them is a load of ****, don't believe it for a second.

I think I'll keep my Oyster separate... A phone is more likely to get stolen but at least I can get home I always try as much as possible to not have the the phone out "on display" in or near stations anyway, and with the roll out of free wifi at stations for the 'lympics it's likely that there is going to be an increase in stuff going walkies I think.
I might get some NFC tags to mess about with for stuff at home though, just to give it a try really.

People who think that it'll be possible to steal your banking details wirelessly from your phone really make me laugh. The ignorance is incredible.
NFC is only activated when your phone's screen is on and unlocked. It's physically impossible for someone to communicate with your Android phone while it's in your pocket.
ive just got the S3 today, and also have an Xperia S LT26i, i can use my Xperia SmartTags on both devices to set things like profiles - switching on/off things like data, bluetooth, wifi and apps etc...
as an example, i have one tag programmed for use in the car on my car keys - it disables my wifi connection, puts the phone on loud settings, enables gps and bluetooth (pairs with stereo in car for handsfree) and launches maps - all by tapping the phone on the tag. i then have another tag on my house keys so i can do the opposite....
you need an app called "liveware manager" and "Xperia smarttags" from Playstore to allow this to be done
hope that helps anyone interested in using NFC

I've done this too. You can programme any writable nfc card or sticker to be a Sony Smart Tag. There are instructions on the nfc forum. Then you can get the Smart Tag to change settings automatically for you. It works really well.
Use these with this. Works ace.
I own a mastercard paypass and would certainly feel more secure if it was on my phone, instead of on a piece of plastic. Unfortunately they only have that in the US yet. My phone can read it though (well it only recognizes it as a Mastercard, no other useful info), as well my transport card, a security pass and health card. I think when NFC finds its way to more phones, applications for it will expand (and hopefully my wallet will get less bulky).
I'll be getting some NFC compatible RFID chips to play with from ebay soon.
I wonder whether the anti theft tags in stores are using a compatible frequency. You often get those for free. I Should try.
Again as far as security - indeed it only works when enabled and when phone is 'awake'. It also has a sound notification whenever it communicates via NFC. And it's not a passive chip that can simple be read with a device and somehow duplicated. Payments would require an encrypted two-way communication.
Have ordered some tags off ebay so will have fun finding a use for them.
First will get one in the car to turn Bluetooth on etc.
Shame that the banks are slow on rolling it out, although they are supposed to be giving it a push for the Olympics but I guess only in small numbers at select locations.

Hmm, when I did a search (for "smart tag") in Play, the Xperia app didn't appear - bl**dy useless Google search.
Liveware I know about, because I think it's the same app as used for the smart watches.
Thanks for putting me straight though.

try "xperia smarttags" - smart and tags have no space
I'm hoping 2012 will be the year for NFC - there's been noises around it gaining traction in time for the Olympics, but perhaps that will be London-only with Oyster cards etc.
I've upgraded to a GSIII from a Nexus S, which also had NFC. I rooted that and used Google Wallet to spend my free $10 from Google in the UK - a couple of Big Mac Meals and a coffee later, everything worked fine. All McDonalds have NFC-enabled tills, as do Starbucks I believe. However I won't hack Google Wallet onto my GSIII because I found out after the event that I'd changed some settings in the secure element by reinstalling too much, and now whoever buys my SNS from the secondhand shop will find out at some point it's incompatible with Wallet!
I said back in 2011 that NFC was going to be the next big thing, it's just a shame we're still waiting. It's more secure than debit card (pin for >£15 transactions, plus it's protected by your phone keylock, plus if you lose your phone you can wipe/lock it with Samsung Dive, Avast, or any other product. And as people have said, the range is tiny - 20cm theoretical, 4cm practical. If someone is that close to your pocket, you ought to have more worries than them scanning your NFC chip!!
I did manage to NFC a few contacts and bookmarks over from my SNS to my GSIII, and I have to say it worked really well - very clean implementation of business card swapping. A little "plip" noise and it's there, no need to open any apps first on the target phone.
I know that in the northwest there is a lot of research etc into using nfc within museums and art galleries as I'm leading a team doing so.
Using tags to give further info, images and links about art or subjects by tapping a tag.
I think using it for payment will take sometime to become widespread as the general public are a little scared of new technology like this!

Well Barclaycard have the Pay Tag thingy (though currently only for some of their Visa cards, not Mastercard - I guess that's possibly 'lympics-related) see http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/paytag and http://ask.barclaycard.co.uk/help/brochure/1_pay_tag/ but it doesn't make use of existing NFC capabilities in a phone, it's just a sticker to slap on somewhere which is completely meh really.

Hello!
Sometimes when I unlock my screen, I hear a sound witch i dont know.
And how often do u hear this sound? I dunno what can it be, sounds like something is in the background. I am unsure, but is resembles like the Alert7 in the sounds... Correct me if I am wrong.
sounds like the NFC chip is interacting with something.. credit cards, or any other form of RFID cards may cause the phone to interact with them when the phone is on (screen on, does not happen when screen is off)
Hmm, i does not hear it often, just once oder twice a month. But when then I hear it a few times. Every time when I unlock the device. But ther is nothing with NFC or RFID next to my smartphone.
Got it this sound appears everytime when it lays on my pocket. Inside of my studentcard seems to be an NFC Chip.
Does anybody how I can read this chip? NFC Manager and NFC Tag Writer does not show anything.
from what I hear, the card has to be NDEF formatted for WP8 phones to be able to read it. I highly doubt the card is NDEF formatted, similar to credit cards etc
Glad the issue has been solved, now I got me some ideas about this Thx 4 the tip about the NFC cards, found my bus ticket, and now its time for some serious research about having a bus drive without paying... I wonder if this can be achieved

I already made it with a copycat app that I made modding one that was on geekchamp . com. It just sends the same bit code from my bus NFC ticket. Althought I made it, I can't deploy that app to everyone unfortunatly because it's breaking some rules from Windows Store... :/ and the coding isn't prepared for more than my type of card (Andante - Porto, Portugal), so... sorry guys :/
No problem, I found out that I cannot do a scam The stuff is pretty technical. I thought to copy a tag from the validator, and back onto the card. However, the validator is a reader-only, so I cannot copy anything. And I need the reader tag on my card in case of controls...
DAMN!

Ola eu sou do porto n conseguias arranjar isso para o andante?
Hi everyone and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!
I hate to be one of those people who asks what might be stupid questions without having any technical expertise. But yeah, I'm pretty clueless and have never really gotten into the inner workings of smart phones. I never really required much from phones before, so I've never had any real issues that bugged me. Some setting-up-the-scenario info: Since I started seeing info about this phone, I was really intrigued - mainly because of its music capabilities, which is what supposedly sets it apart from the rest. I read and heard SO many good things about it, and I've never had a portable music player work as well as I thought it should. So I took the plunge without having the disposable cash to actually buy a new one. I got a "renewed" one from the big A, and even though it was advertised as a T-Mobile version (which is the carrier I use), I received the AT&T version. It works fine on T-Mobile so I'm ok with it despite the AT&T software on it. The phone works well and is in great condition. But this issue I'm having is frustrating me, and I don't think it's carrier-specific (though I know the different versions can have different limitations on what can be done with them).
Here is the issue, and some of what I've dealt with in trying to research and solve it... Whether using the headphone jack (with or without enabling the DAC) or using Bluetooth or the phone's built-in speakers, songs will skip, stutter, stop and start over, move on to another song and then go back to the previous song, then stop and play an entirely different song. Sometimes it will just put out a string of noise for a second like it's on super fast-forward at a painfully loud volume. Some songs will never play properly, which could be a corrupt file issue, but others will often be fine and only mess up occasionally. None of them seem to be immune to it. This is a problem I'd say 80-90% of the time.
I have a lot of music, and I have it all on an SD card. It's a recent, higher quality SD (Samsung or the like) that's 128 GB. I prefer it that way since I don't want to fill up the phone's storage space. I've seen some posts online about this kind of issue on other phones, but not much usable info. Searching here didn't bring any results. One person with a different phone found a fix by moving his music app to the SD card as well, but alas that doesn't seem to be possible with this phone as there seems to be no way to change the download location to the SD card and I can't move the app from the phone's location for it. I've seen info (for other phones) about using the phone to reformat the SD card as "internal storage" to bypass that, but this phone only formats an SD card to be usable for multiple devices and not as part of the phone's internal storage. I'm in the process of trying to copy all of the music files to the phone's internal storage to see if that helps, but it's far from ideal for me and it's taking forever. I will update if it makes a difference, but I really don't want to do it this way because I won't have room for anything else. I guess if anything it might clue me in to whether the card itself has problems, but I'm optimistically doubtful about that. And maybe once I have the files copied I can reformat the SD card with the phone again, retransfer the files and see if that helps. Also doubtful but maybe? Also, the phone will only transfer the files using the Google files app - not the LG files app. Kind of odd, but whatever.
Oh, and I don't have the dual screen, so that wouldn't be a factor in this (if it could have been).
My questions then are:
1. Has anyone dealt with or heard about this music playing problem, and have any ideas about fixing it?
2. Does anyone know how to change the download location on this phone to the SD card?
I'm super frustrated because I really want to like this phone, and so far other than having generally better sound and being a little faster and nicer to look at I was almost just as happy with the crappy old cheap Huawei I had before. Any help would be much appreciated!
It seems to be an audio player problem rather than a phone issue. Try black player, it works very well with all the V serie, had it on the V20, have it on my V60. And its one of the best and good lookin' player in theplay store. The basic version is free and is fully fonctionnal so you can try it and if it does not resolve your issue, desintall it.
Thanks for your reply. I'm not having any luck and I'm thinking it's either just a lousy phone despite all the great reviews out there, or maybe the AT&T version is what's lousy. I pulled out the SD card and loaded a bunch of music directly onto the phone and sill have the problem. I tried Black Player (which I like), and the problem happened on the first song I played and has happened quite a bit since then too. The files are a mix of formats, all higher-quality, and format doesn't seem to make a difference on whether the issues arise or not. Don't know what else to do.
