Trying to figure out if this is just me or what: Using Paranoid Android on my evoLTE and I'm fnding that sometimes when I'm playing audio either from Google Play Music of Doggcatcher and go to another app the audio app in question just gets killed. Sometimes its immediate, sometimes it takes a minute. Normally they should play in the background complete with a play/pause button in the notification tray but instead they die without even a force close message.
My guess is that the ROM in question is being way overly aggressive with task killing and I was wondering if this is Jelly Bean in general or the specific ROM. Is there a way to keep audio apps in memory?
Happened during a drive though this time with Google Navigation. I was at a red light and switched to my podcasting app and Navigation got killed in the background moments later. Is anyone else seeing this happen?

It's the goddamn HTC sense task manager... This is why multi tasking doesn't work well (or sometimes at all) on our phone
Oh wait just noticed your on a custom Rom. Same idea though. Best to ask the dev too.

Android will automatically kill an app when you need more resources to run another. If you switch through a bunch of apps and neglect the music app, android might kill the process. If you are using a third party music app, some have the option of keep the thread a priority and can keep android from killing it

But I'm not skipping through apps. Today I switched from Navigation to Doggcatcher and Navigation died when it should have stayed in the background and in the notification tray. I hit play in Doggcatcher, went back to Navigation, got that on a route again and then a few minutes later Doggcatcher stopped playing and was removed from the notification tray. It doesn't happen pften but it happens enough where it becomes quite annoying.

Don't pay so much attention. In general, those applications don't use your cpu and battery. Android has its own task manager system.
Yeah dis is even happening to me,the reason is so simple like one app needs the other apps so they are even opening up.

what the appl you using which is opening others appl can u name the apps
if you kill apps, they will probably get restarted automatically and left in the background. If the apps are working correctly, this is not a problem, as a well coded app does not use CPU/battery when in the background.
Actually, I just quit using a task manager to kill tasks (I just let Android kill them as necessary) and I have no problems (phone is not slower, power drain is not higher).
Maybe the thing is that after you stop a task in a task manager it does not update immediately and you don't see the task being restarted, and when you go into the task manager after running some app just then you see the apps restarted.
Also, some apps are very generic (maps) and used by other apps, and some apps need to be running all the time (latitude, mail client, widgets, etc.) and killing them would make them not work properly (widgets no longer updating, not getting new emails, etc.).
My advice is to leave the apps running if you are not very sure of what you are doing, because the OS will eventually kill unnecessary apps, and until then they should not use any CPU or battery.
Only thing is to stay away from badly written apps, the ones that use too much CPU even when in the background or when phone is sleeping. You should probably wait for a night after installing a new app to see if you have higher drain. If so, just uninstall and search for an alternative.

I am using Skype often. And I want it to be always on in the background as it makes it easier for my family abroad to communicate with me. However either android itself or my wife keeps shutting it down (don't blame her she is not very experienced user).
Is there any app or simple way to keep Skype on all the time, that even if it is shut down manually by user or task manager or android itself I want it to keep restarting itself.
I used search but I found only thousands of topics were people trying to prevent apps from running all the time in background, I want this one to do that! I will be grateful for any help. I want it to keep running on HTC Flyer.
Anyone?

If an app has an icon in the notification bar (which skype does), android process manager wouldn't kill it. That's why apps like tasker and 3G watchdog has an icon in the notification bar. Therefore, your wife must be using some sort of task manager to kill background processes. The solution will depend on the task manager she is using. Some task killers allow you to "white list" certain apps.
Apps can shut down even if they put icons in the notification bar, if you are annoyed by this problem you know that.
What we need are an app that can monitor and restart selected apps if they aren't running.

There is task killer included in stock ROM but whether she is killing it or whether it's system I still need something (method or app) to restart it immediately after that happens.

This is what I want to do too, I want to keep skype on all the time, but I noticed that randomly it would be killed!!!
Are you rooted? Try uninstalling all task managers and using ES task manager with white list, and perhaps run the V6 Supercharger memory script to manage memory better, he also has a section on getting apps to run at -16 system level permissions (never be killed by system)

auto memory manager has an option to keep apps alive, but it needs root too.
+1 for auto memory manager I ise it too since my rom had this nasty habit to kill music while it was playing. So I use this little app and it works great.I even go more ram by tweaking the settings

I read your first post again - it must be android killing your skype. Cause to close skype u need to logout and i think that its hard too logout accidenatlly (its not only pushing "back" button.
And i dont think that there is an app which can restart manually closed app (maybe script and an auto script launcher??)

I tried Auto Memory.
It does give you the possibility to keep alive any process (and app), but the effect disappears eventually, like minutes after.
Keeping alive Auto Memory as well doesn't help :/
Did you apply keep alive in app process list?

Is anyone having issues with the Google Now notifications? On my last phone, I would get notifications for flights, and games on days my teams are playing.
one the HOX+ I have everything configured the same way, but I don't get the notifications. I only see the info if I launch google now/search.
Did you try rebooting the phone. I posted an issue I have seen that location services does not seem to activate properly all the time if you turn it off and on. If you reboot the phone it should ask to accept Google location services immediately click accept and it should work.

Were you previously on ICS? On JB certain notifications "hide" till you pull down the notification bar. Things like weather and traffic typically aren't visible at the top till you pull notifications down. But I remember when using the "massaged" Google Now app on ICS, they would appear up at the top. For a while after upgrading to JB on my Inspire I thought something was broken, but it turned out it's normal for some notifications to not be visible at the top all the time.
No idea if this describes your problem, but if you came from ICS to JB, there are a few changes to how the app operates.
I didn't know google now was available on ICS... In my case, it's always been on JB.
On my last phone, I would get a notification in the morning of the day that any sports team I configured is playing. It would say which team is playing, and what time the game in the local time zone of wherever I am...I don't get that on the HOX+ unless I open the google app
Google maps seems to constantly be running in the background taking up around 7MB. Every time i kill it it starts running again almost immediately. I know its not taking up too much space much every little helps. How can I kill it permanently until I actually want to use it?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah it looks like many apps do that...those stupid developers...
Anyways, it looks like ure a minimal-ram-usage kinda guy - i respect that and your quest, i fear it wont last long cuz everytime u get a new app it probably does the same thing...but i'll help you how i can.
So dis is what I do:
(You need root, except for task killer)
Autostarts app: it allows you to disable autostarting bast***rd apps
Advanced task killer: it allows you to kill processes and services. Userful sometimes when u need to make sure.... i advice against letting it run on it's own letting it clean every half hour or so, cause it hogs up your phone at times, dunno why, but manual is always the best way.
Grennify:this is a real revolution for android, some rom developers have even put it as system app preinstalled in their roms. Read the apps description on the store. It will hibernate apps automatically, it runs in the background but it's more useful than harmful. It 'hibernates' apps instead of freezing them totally (like u can do with titanium backup pro and many other apps). It helps fight other backgrounf running user-hater apps such as facebook...you can apply it to gmaps, it will disable it automatically when u close the app.

I use Greenify to automatically hibernate Google Maps
I use App Quarantine to hibernate/freeze viber. It allows you to creqate a widget in the home screen which allows you to toggle freeze and unfreeze apps.

Thanks for all the help guys. Have started to use greenify, it definatly is a help. I figured out the google maps problem. Im running CM, and I had access to location enabled under location access so Goggle maps was constantly tracking my location. Pretty simple solution at the end.
Thanks again for the help!
Turn off Google Now. That's what keeps it running.
I have been experiencing a problem with background apps sucking up all my phone's memory on my EVO 4G LTE. When I use high resource apps like high graphics games, other apps like Facebook, Google Maps, Google Plus, etc. start to cash and slow everything down. Sometimes it gets so bad that the phone will completely freeze and I have to do a forced shut down via volume down + power. If I use task manager to kill all the processes before using one of the high resource apps, it works better for a while, but then the processes I closed stay themselves back up again the movement I exit the app I'm using. Then I have to kill them again. Sometimes they restart themselves as fast as I can kill them. Is there some way to prevent these things from opening themselves so they are only using resources when I actually open them myself? My device is routed and I'm running MeanROM.
uae greenify, it hibernated app when not in use
the greenified app will active again when you open it, after it you can hibernate it again
