Is anyone having issues with the Google Now notifications? On my last phone, I would get notifications for flights, and games on days my teams are playing.
one the HOX+ I have everything configured the same way, but I don't get the notifications. I only see the info if I launch google now/search.
Did you try rebooting the phone. I posted an issue I have seen that location services does not seem to activate properly all the time if you turn it off and on. If you reboot the phone it should ask to accept Google location services immediately click accept and it should work.

Were you previously on ICS? On JB certain notifications "hide" till you pull down the notification bar. Things like weather and traffic typically aren't visible at the top till you pull notifications down. But I remember when using the "massaged" Google Now app on ICS, they would appear up at the top. For a while after upgrading to JB on my Inspire I thought something was broken, but it turned out it's normal for some notifications to not be visible at the top all the time.
No idea if this describes your problem, but if you came from ICS to JB, there are a few changes to how the app operates.
I didn't know google now was available on ICS... In my case, it's always been on JB.
On my last phone, I would get a notification in the morning of the day that any sports team I configured is playing. It would say which team is playing, and what time the game in the local time zone of wherever I am...I don't get that on the HOX+ unless I open the google app

Wifi always on causes SOD. There are numerous anecdotal reports that setting wifi to be off with screen off reduces/stops SOD.
Plan:
Utilize DroidWall to limit wifi use by applications and find out which applications appear to be safe by selecting specific applications and seeing if SOD occurs.
Why:
Even though turning off wifi with screen off saves battery, some people would like their nook to be pushing/updating with wifi when it is in sleep, getting emails, messages, etc.
What you can do:
1) Download/Install DroidWall
2) Using WHITELIST, check off one or two applications that you utilize the most.
3) Turn _ON_ firewall
4) Update the rules whenever you add or remove apps.
5) Change your wifi setting to always on (advanced options under wifi settings * need to hit menu button to see this option in cm7)
Apps so far tested without problems:
Email (stock)
Improved Email
Dolphin HD 6.0
Epocrates
Market
Amazon Appstore
Possible SOD related App
Downloads, Media Storage, DRM Protected Content Storage, Download Manager (this is one heading in DroidWall)
Apps so far tested that _might_ cause SOD:
*from posts, possibly Latitude.
Testing
K9 Mail
RoadMap
Rom Manager
Netflix
Executive Assistant+
Please post your findings.
I will update this post as we get more information.
Thanks.
DroidWall did not solve it for me... in fact it wouldn't even run on my Nook.
It works for me. At first, I forgot to turn on the firewall, then I forgot to update rules when I changed things.
So far, I have the following for access to wifi:
Market
Appstore(amazon)
Dolphin Browser HD
Epocrates RX
Email
Improved Email
I just turned on Appstore and Market for the first time tonight, so I'm not sure how well it will do.
I use my nook all the time at work, probably turn it on from lockscreen sleep about 15-20 times over 10 hours, so if I don't get a SOD by the next day, I will put market and amazon appstore on the safe side.
Interesting development:
I got my 1st SOD today.
Please note my active programs at this time.
Please note that it occured after I started the combined service noted in the OP:
Downloads, Media Storage, DRM protected Content storage, Download Manager in the Droidwall options.
I will remove this option (which makes it impossible to update market aps for that matter) and see if the SOD doesn't happen for the next 3 days. The restart it and see if I get SOD again.
If this is the cause, then I should be able to show that SOD occurs with it active.
nm
10chars.
Using white list and only allow full-time wifi access to "linux kernel" and "apps running as root"
Never have more than one or two other apps besides these access to wifi when in sleep mode. I never allow gapps full-time wifi access and that goes double for market.
Where did this idea come from? *ducks and runs*
I do believe drm checks are screwing with the nook.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the very useful testing.
Okay, update - I left the downloads/media store etc on the last 3 days and haven't had another SOD. So I'm not sure what to think about that. I will move forward and enable K-9mail today and see how things go over the next couple days.
here's my take on it: it has to do with the router, or some configuration of it.
I have a wrt54gs v1.1 at home and a wrt54g v4 at work, both running tomato software, both with Cox internet.
I get CONSISTENT SODs at work, as a side note the router is a also crashing for an unknown reason. the two don't happen at the same time. I've been trying to grab logs for weeks can't explain it or the fact the nook NEVER SODs at home.
the nook can run at home for days perfect, once at work it can SOD 6 times a day or more.
there has to be more going on than an errant app.

Can you clarify what you mean by "reduces/stops" ? Does it reduce it or does it stop it ?
Also, I've been away for awhile - is this the only SOD cause that is not fixed in the current CM7 nightlies code ?
Thanks !!
I've had SOD at home and at work. It's possible we both might have a problem.
I'm currently sitting at 36 hours of up time with the below white listed items. Without droid wall enabled I would consistently get SOD. I am working towards white listing all items one by one to see what causes a SOD. I have discovered that if I white list Google Maps I will get a SOD. However, until I white list all other items I am not prepared to call Maps as the cause of my SOD.

Thanks, if you go without SOD for 3 days straight like this, I will add these problems to the safe list.
I only get it once I run the Pandora app, close it, and after some time in background, sod.
My experience has been that using the Green Power app in Market keeps my NC alive for a week or more of light use and completely stops SOD. When I disabled Green Power last night, SOD happened, so I was happy to see this thread. It is definitely related to wifi.
For anyone that wants a quick workaround, I do recommend this app because it tells your NC to check wifi on regular intervals so I still get notifications / emails but wifi is not on all the time which saves battery.
WPA_SUPLICANT task
Hi,
I have been getting SOD. My workaround has been to manually turn off
WiFi before I turn screen off - this seems to have worked.
I didn't have them under CM7.03. I have been getting them on all
the nightlies I have tried since them, currently using N146
Mentioned above is an app called GreenPower, I thought I would try this.
I still get SOD with it. (I think I just used the default settings)
This time after powering back on, I looked at my SystemPanel app traces.
It looked like the (task?) WPA_SUPPLICANT was using 100% CPU sometime after
I turn off the display.
Attached are 2 screen captures from System Panel:
One with last 2 hours, showing recent 100% WPA_Supplicant CPU usage SOD
One showing 8 hours of apps running with most CPU usage.
Note System panel is showing device charge constant, but after reboot,
charge is much lower (last night it discharged totally)
Also attached are two alogcat captures - not sure if they have useful data
or not though.
One from SOD earlier in the day
One from recent SOD captured in screen SystemPanel capture above.
Hope this helps...

I tried Green Power and my nc hasn't had a SOD since you posted this. Thanks for the recommendation. I used to get SOD on a daily basis.
I used to get sod even with green power. So I set 2 profiles with tasker one for wifi off when screen is off and one for wifi on when screen is on. No sod for a week.

Two questions. Using Green Power, my wifi does not connect when I wake it up with the nook button. Secondly, when I try to wake up my bluetooth Xoom keyboard by pressing the connect button several times, it will sometimes reboot. Anybody having similiar problems?

Trying to figure out if this is just me or what: Using Paranoid Android on my evoLTE and I'm fnding that sometimes when I'm playing audio either from Google Play Music of Doggcatcher and go to another app the audio app in question just gets killed. Sometimes its immediate, sometimes it takes a minute. Normally they should play in the background complete with a play/pause button in the notification tray but instead they die without even a force close message.
My guess is that the ROM in question is being way overly aggressive with task killing and I was wondering if this is Jelly Bean in general or the specific ROM. Is there a way to keep audio apps in memory?
Happened during a drive though this time with Google Navigation. I was at a red light and switched to my podcasting app and Navigation got killed in the background moments later. Is anyone else seeing this happen?

Android will automatically kill an app when you need more resources to run another. If you switch through a bunch of apps and neglect the music app, android might kill the process. If you are using a third party music app, some have the option of keep the thread a priority and can keep android from killing it

But I'm not skipping through apps. Today I switched from Navigation to Doggcatcher and Navigation died when it should have stayed in the background and in the notification tray. I hit play in Doggcatcher, went back to Navigation, got that on a route again and then a few minutes later Doggcatcher stopped playing and was removed from the notification tray. It doesn't happen pften but it happens enough where it becomes quite annoying.
Hi all, this is my first post on XDA. It's not an unfamiliar place for me though. For the past 3-4 years I've owned 3 different sets of Android phones, and this is THE home that satisfied my software tinkering. I've many great memories of Android, especially Galaxy Nexus. But the joy of my reunion with Nokia is indescribable. Finally WP8. Finally Nokia. Enough of my "introduction". I've this question for you folks out there. Has anyone experienced the same - that new updates are available for installed apps but not showing up on the app store live tile? I've noticed this a few times, the latest being Nokia drive + beta. I learned about the available update through wpcentral. It's only when I searched for the app on the store that the live tile started showing"1" (means 1 update available.
I should clarify that this is not just on the live tile. In fact I didn't see any update notification even when the app store is launched. It was almost like I had to view the app on the store (that's where you see the "update" option) in order to trigger the notification.

I don't currently have my 920 to hand (it's in for repair) but if memory serves you can go to Settings > Phone update and make sure it's set to automaticly check for updates.
I am getting at least some app update notifications, but I certainly did notice that the notification for Nokia Drive didn't appear. But I think that sometimes there is a delay between the update becoming available in the store, and the notification appearing on the phone. Perhaps because you knew there was an update for Drive, you got in there and looked in the store before your phone had had a chance to notify you.
I experienced the lack of notification for metrotube, nokia extras+info, and nokia creative studio all within this week. I only came to know of the updates all because of wpcentral. It really puzzles me. I'm certain there isn't any settings for toggling app update notification on wp8 (unlike android play store). Or is there..?
I think the app just have a day delay...
We know that those blog are much faster than the store app.
I got the updates today. Seems to be a delay or something. Patience I guess.

The Store only checks for app updates at certain times, at which point if it finds something it'll update the tile. The tile does not update as soon as app updates become available. So there is a slight delay between the update going live, and the live tile being updated.
Nothing new, totally normal.
If you're reading about app updates on wpcentral, then you've most likely read about the update before the Store got a chance to check for updates.
Thanks. That makes sense.
After deliberately searching all my installed apps on app store, I just realized I have 2 apps that have new updates. They are My Stocks Portfolio and List & Things (paid). Updates were released on 12/12 and 13/12. Today is 17/12, but I never saw the available updates info on the store's main screen or live tile. After this deliberate exercise, I do see the available updates info on store app main screen as well as the live tile. I'm also now convinced this is a current shortcoming in wp8 app store.
Oh, and Evernote as well. I missed that out somehow. Update was released on 14/12.
If app is updated in lets say 10.12. It does not mean you can download in that day or even day later. I think thats date when they went to checking.
Ive been having the same thing...... The other day I had 12 all at once. Now some of the apps I knew had updates from reading on wpcentral so I thought I would leave it and see how long.
5 days later it pop up saying I had the update.
zolgi,
Your understanding is incorrect. The "last updated" information shown on app store is real time with the update's availability. I'd validated on a few apps. When you go to view the app, it shows update is available. It's only then the information gets pushed to the app store main screen and live tile (if you keeps it on your home screen). I accepted it as a temporary shortcoming which will get fixed in future. From other forum members in wpcentral, I also learnt it used to work on wp8 and is still working on wp 7.5 .

There is a known bug affecting push notifications on WP8 which can be triggered by a number of badly behaved applications, even with a small number of allowed backgroungs tasks in "settings". Further, the "Find my phone" setting is buggy: when you activate it by pushing the slider to the rightn when you go back to settings it will say "Find my phone is not activated". Further, the "Find my phone" page in settings does not offer a push notification setting on the Nokia Lumia 920, contrary to what WP8 Microsoft help says. Find my phone however works ok.
Anyone with a solution?
I just wanted to start by saying that I have no idea how this started happening or even when. Only that it started happening within perhaps the past month or maybe 2 months.
I'm having issues with two apps, BBM and PowerAmp. PowerAmp has this feature where if you plug in your earbuds it will resume your music and if you unplug your earbuds it will pause automatically. In probably the last month or so I've noticed that this has no longer been working from Poweramp even though this has been working since I've had it which is a long long time . I thought maybe the Poweramp service was being closed due to not enough phone memory but I would check and not only was the service running but I also had enough memory.
The interesting thing is that I'm having a similar problem with the BBM app. They have a service that runs which checks for incoming messages and in the recent past it too also stopped working. Both PowerAmp and BBM will work if I have opened the app in the past 5 minutes or so. As an example, if I open PowerAmp and use it a bit, close it, and within the next minute I plug in my earbuds it will resume playback. If I take out my earbuds and wait a long period of time and plug back in then no such luck. The same behaviour is happening with BBM.
Many people have similar issues specifically with BBM but keeping the Persistent Icon in their notification area has solved it. For me, it has not. I followed BBM's support which says to have the Persistent Icon on, check to make sure the app does not have background data restricted, and also to check to make sure that background data in general is not restricted. All checks are good. The other interesting thing is that when I switch from data to Wifi all of a sudden I will receive all of my BBM messages, so it seems that the service must be running I'd think?
I don't know if it's a coincidence between both apps or not. Any suggestions or things to try in order to get to the deeper root cause? I have a Nexus 4 and I'm on version 4.4.2 and I should have the latest version of both apps installed. I'm not rooted or anything. It's just a stock Nexus 4 from Google.
Thanks.
It's been like 5 days since I was able to say ok Google with screen off, call ( name here) and the phone would unlock and dial the number, regardless if it was a contact or not.
Now I say ok Google call ( name here) and either the assistant will not respond after opening to make the call, or it goes open and it shows example,
Call circles pizzeria
But it never makes the call.
Now if I using my fingerprint to unlock the device, say ok Google call circles pizzeria, it will make the call.
Want to note, this is not a contact. Also don't matter if it's a contact or not. I've showed 2 examples of ok Google getting "stuck" on the commands.
I've factory reset the device. I'm thinking this has to be on Google's end. Just want to know if anyone else is affected.
So 19 views, and no one quick tested their own device? Gee thanks....

I don't use Assistant at all (in fact I struggle to keep it disabled on my phone, and Google tries to enable it all the time). So I am one those views, but unfortunately have no experience.
Which OS version are you on? That might affect the results of others who try it.
Does it matter if you're in a Smart Lock situation (Trusted location, Trusted BT device etc)?
Just tested mine. My Google Home took the initiative of making the call, and gave me some tips on my first call that way. This was while my phone was in my hand, too, so I'm not sure why the GH took over, but whatever. In the end, it did dial out... or try to, before I told it to hang up.
Not exactly your situation, so I didn't respond. Mine has nothing to do with unlocking the screen, as I keep my screen unlocked and on Navigation app while driving.
But here's my story...
_________
A few months ago, new Google app update stopped Google Assistant from making the daily phone calls to my wife when I'm coming home from work. (I never know what time I can leave.)
"OK, Google, call (my wife's name)"
Normally automatically dials via Bluetooth through Google Voice.
This time nada, repeatedly -- from trying to show me search results, to not responding at all.
Even tried "OK, Google, call my wife" (instead of her name). Google Assistant: "Who is your wife?" (She's listed in Contacts as my wife, besides her full name.)
Suddenly Google Assistant wasn't performing as previously and also had amnesia.
This happened two days in a row. I had to manually hit a pinned dialer screen shortcut to call my wife while driving home. (Which is technically against the law now in Georgia, touching your phone while driving.)
So, I reverted back to the previous Google app version (downloaded through APK Mirror) -- which does exactly what I need -- and refuse to let it auto update in Google Play Store. I also have Titanium Backup of that specific version on hold, in case Google accidentally updates somehow.
I know I'm now a few months behind in app versions, but I don't have time to mess with trouble shooting. If the version I have works, I'm keeping it.
_______
I have half a dozen apps I also keep from auto updating for similar reasons.
For instance, because of newly imposed Google rules about a year ago, an long time app called My Data Manager has to put an icon on the left side status bar to show it's technically running in the background. On previous versions you could disable that stupid icon or "badge" in the app settings. It's a neat app, because I can merely swipe down and at the bottom of my notifications, there's a pinned box that shows my current data usage. And it's quite accurate. Every time I compare it to my carrier's report of my data usage it's within a few MB.
But I do NOT want to see a CONSTANT icon on my left side status bar for that app. So, I reverted to older version before the Google rules change and it works EXACTLY the way I wish. I unticked "auto update". I've done that for my phone, my wife's and my mom's.
________
I just finished working one month straight, with no days off. Feb 15 - March 13, often 12-14 hour days. In one two week stretch, I worked over 160 hours (4 weeks of work, crammed into 2 weeks.)
So, I'm not putting up with any crap from my phone.
If new app version breaks something, I'm reverting to previous app version and preventing it from updating. At some unknown point in time, if I want to test they've finally fixed what they broke, I will do that when I have free time. Other than that, I need my daily phone to work, period.
